Oliveto in Weymouth and Portland

We wanted to take a closer look at this place as we stayed in the B&B nearby, and as we saw plenty of positive reviews from people on here, but, unfortunately, it turned out pretty average. We had two starters and two pastas. Starters were pretty nice (Soup of the day and the Prawn Cocktail kinda thing) , but the pastas were quite disappointing. Carbonara was pretty bland, but overall okay. Ravioli had a lovely sauce , but the meat inside them tasted more like a pate. Prices are pretty high for what it is, the atmosphere itself in the place is a bit dull and boring, toilets are tiny, the service is good, waiters are nice. We are usually not the people who complain, but as a big Italian food lovers we simply didn’t rate it.

The toilets were clean the wine was good ,calamari OK service and ability to provide a good service was not good, Bella pasta at least offered parmesan ,and black pepper with some flair, and acknowledgment that they knew what they were doing, no recompense re a very dry carbonate x What more can I say ??????

Lovely venue with a stunning view over the beach and sea however the service was a little lacking … I had to ask for both Parmesan and black pepper for my pasta as it wasn’t offered. Also the Salmon & Penne pasta was described as a cream sauce but was tomato based when it arrived. A little disappointed overall for the price.

Quieter than on previous visits, but the food was excellent, and the service was second to none.

Excellent food and service. We ate here on two evenings as there seemed little point going elsewhere as we knew it wouldn’t be bettered. The food was prepared well and served hot. The staff were all welcoming and efficient. The views from the old bandstand are, of course, just great. Keep it up. My only other comment is to please get some sundae or smaller spoons for desserts - your standard table ones are too big !

Italian restaurant situated in a former bandstand on Weymouth beach. The restaurant has recently been renovated , to a high standard . The staff were friendly and very attentive , keeping an eye on empty drinks , plates being clearing away or new courses to be brought . We had cocktails.. very good. Seafood Pizza .. excellent Melt in the mouth chicken with roasted vegetables and a mushroom sauce , followed by a very tart lemon sorbet . All very nice , but not on the list of recommended food on Google .. This place and the area probably hasn’t changed much since thousands of very courageous American soldiers left for Normandy . Many of the troops who embarked via Weymouth on D-Day were part of the US 1st Division (the 'Big Red One') who were destined to land on Omaha Beach. A memorial dedicated to the American troops can be found on the Esplanade in Weymouth.

Great venue and location and however pity about the quality of the food. The starter of salmon pate was sloppy and almost runny in consistency and could barely taste the salmon. The risotto Al fungi also dashed expectations as per the menu description - lacking in the 'array of mushrooms' and disappointingly the meal tasted like this had been cooked in a microwave. The most alarming issue was that risotto rice was not cooked but crunchy. When I spoke to staff about this they brought out another plate of risotto however this was not fully cooked either. Most likely microwaved as the sauce was watery. Customer service around the risotto wasn't the most attentive either.

The staff were absolutely amazing! I’m a single dad and I took my 5 year old son out for dinner and they were absolutely amazing especially the women, food was spot on as well can’t thank them enough for an amazing service x

The venue was in the perfect location being opposite the Guest House we stayed at. The food and the ambience was excellent. The service was exceptional including the waiter, Luke who looked after us.

Incredible authentic Italian pizza with fresh ingredients and perfect crust! The atmosphere is warm, and the staff are so friendly,had the pleasure of being served by Alexandra who always made sure we were liked after and taken care of. Can't wait to come back!!!

We had a really lovely meal here on a Saturday night. The food was excellent including the fresh pizza and a delicious duck Ragu. Service was a bit slow at times but I would highly recommend.

We came here tonight for an early valentines date night. Luke and chloe who served us were wonderful,attentive,kind and informative of the dishes served. Have to say,best service we have ever received. The food,absolutely impeccable,divine,full of flavour and perfect portions. Price reflects the amazing food. Highly recommend this hidden weymouth gem. Lovely food the lunch menu is really good value for money, Luke our waiter was very good and efficient he has a good sense of humour, we had a nice space between courses and we were not rushed.

Third time of coming here the food is really nice and presented very well. My bread, oil and rocket starter is delicious, followed by beef fillet steak with fries, and rocket salad with parma cheese slices was also delicious. The service from Dominique is friendly and very welcoming. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone keep up the great work.

We had a fabulous evening here on Monday. My husband and I both had three courses and dessert wine. We both said all our meals were delicious. A special thank you to Luke our waiter, helpful, cheerful and full of banter. Just what we like when we go out. Thank you all for a great night.

Red wine smelt like paint stripper, 3 of the starters unavailable for a weds evening even thou there were 6 tables, my starter was missing 2 of the 3 sun dried tomatoes, ravioli main was nice but partners duck was undercooked and chewy, slow service for a Weds eve, was not offered the choice of seasoning or parmesan throughout the meal as an Italian resturant would have offered as a matter of course

Been dining at this fabulous restaurant since it opened. So lucky to have such a wonderful place in Weymouth, great food, drinks,staff and atmosphere. Christmas party night, new years eve celebrations, family birthdays, charity fund raisers or a quiet meal with my husband, all great experiences. Happy New Year to all staff and regular customers.

We celebrated New Year's Eve here. We had a pre-ordered, delicious 3 course meal, plus coffees and teas. The staff were all hard working, friendly and fun. My husband and friends really had a good time and wish all the staff happy 2025!

Had wonderful Christmas Eve dinner here. Beautiful restaurant with fabulous views of the sea and Weymouth promenade. Cocktails and food were great!

Brilliant all round food and service.

It is in a very nice location with beachfront views. The seating is luxurious, and the decor is elegant. The waiting staff are very attentive, and the soft background music is perfect for a romantic dinner or grown-up family meal. I had the calamari and the salmon penne pasta. I was absolutely blown away by the calamari, that flavour was perfect and the batter very crispy. The accompanied sauce was flavourful and excellent. There was a slight stringy-ness to them, but that could just be due to the preparation of the ring where the 'outer skin' may have been missed. The penne was most definitely not good.... it was a watery sauce that had no depth of flavour, the flaked salmon felt like I was eating something from a tin... with a few 'crunchy' bits at times. I did, however, not complain... as I was exhausted, and just wanted to go back to my hotel for a rest. I don't think my meal was 100% worth it, but then again, my taste is different from others. I just know I would probably try a different main meal if I were to return.

This was the venue for a 21st wedding anniversary. Nice food and a lovely view along the beach.

A hidden gem! I wasn’t sure when I saw the building from the outside but when we got inside we were immediately impressed by the gorgeous sea views. Food was great, our toddler *loved* the kiddie pizza, staff were lovely - we really enjoyed our meal here.

Lovely food and fantastic service and very nice decor

We booked our 3 monthly get together here as we wanted something different from the usual "pub" type food and place we usually go to. We were very pleasantly surprised. Lovely ambience, tasty food, great service and fantastic views! The food was good value for money and not really any more expensive than pubs on the harbour. We were so pleased, that we booked our Christmas get together there in December. The only negative was that the only way to access was up some steep stairs. Not good if you have mobility problems.

Disappointed after reading the reviews, food was average, was told it was the head chefs night off, we went on a Monday evening.

Had a great early evening meal yesterday. The location is without question fantastic. Food was excellent. The icing on the cake was lovely waiting staff, loved the bright,cheerful and attentive service.

Fantastic service, quick service and well priced

A really beautiful restaurant and excellent, welcoming staff. I chose the venue to meet with friends from abroad, as the views are the best in Weymouth and I love Italian food. I'm vegetarian and usually have great success in Italian restaurants for pasta / pizza dishes, however I was surprised to see there were not many options... (I should have checked the menu beforehand!!) Nonetheless, Oliveto were happy to accommodate adjustments to make my dish vegetarian - which was lovely. My friends who enjoy seafood said that the food was great.

Beautifully decorated and lovely atmosphere. We were given a seat in the smaller dining room, right over the sea with a lovely view of the bay all lit up at night. All the staff were friendly and polite. Husband had the carbonara which he said was good, it was well presented. I had the seafood risotto, unfortunately all the seafood was very rubbery like it had been left on the heat too long and as both meals came out to our table about 5-10 minutes after ordering, it was a little suspicious! The desserts however were good, tiramisu and pana cotta (my favourite) with toasted almond and honey, which was delicious. The restaurant was very full so the risotto we put down to just a one off and maybe because it was a busy night. Wine was also very nice and my limoncello spritz was huge. A good meal and quite nice overall, more on the expensive side (about £75) but we’d expected it to be so not really an issue. We’d chosen it ans had heard good things and wanted somewhere special for our date night. Unsure whether I’d risk it again for the price though, I’d have expected flawless for what we paid but everyone has off days and maybe we just caught them on one?

We were asked to preorder our meals when booked 3 weeks in advance as we were a group of 9 so we did. Table booked for 8pm, shown to our table and then left for a long period of time without drinks menus. When we finally got to order our drinks, they arrived slow and table water was forgotten. The house red 3x bottles was ordered, turned out it was the cheapest on the menu(house usually is a good picked wine representative of the restaurant)no bread, olives or anything else offered. Food started to come out quickly when it did. We were not asked how we wanted our steaks so when put in front of us, they were dry and chewy. No sauce, barely any rocket and shavings of Parmesan with a drizzle of sweet clearly not homemade balsamic dressing. I asked if there was cheese and biscuit option only to be told they have cheesecake. I could go on as all 9 of us left disappointed and will not be returning or recommending to anyone visiting Weymouth. We left a very generous tip as I am sure the serving staff were doing their best but even they could have made more of an effort, no checking in on our meals or thank you when we received the bill. Been planning to visit for ages and were not disappointed. Food was well presented and tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive. Don't be put off by the unassuming entrance, step through the door and its a different world.

Lovely restaurant overlooking the bay. Staff friendly and welcoming. Booked a table about a week before and requested a nice table by the window for a double celebration, happy to say we were not disappointed in any way. Wonderful food & service from a very polite waiter. Would recommend 100%. Don't be put off by the exterior, inside the restaurant is art deco and spotless. Thank you Oliveto for a lovely evening.

Very disappointing, both service and food, portion size of burata as almost offensive, I've worked in hospitality for many years and would not recommend this place!

We had a short break in Weymouth and asked three locals for a dinner recommendation They all mentioned Oliveto so that’s where we went We had an excellent meal with good service and I thought a reasonable price What more could you want?

Olivettos' was a choice of convenience, due to the very inclement weather on that particular day, we were a walk in couple, looking to eat reasonably. the reception was great, the ambience of the restaurant area was very good, with linen covered tables, with cutlery correctly laid out. The establishment was busy or at least heavily booked, we were given a table which was needed for a pre-booking, we explained that we would be gone by the time the table was needed again, and promptly given a different table overlooking the beach. The meal was served promptly, the wine was as expected relevantly expensive due to the usual corkage charge, however the wine really was good, as was the choice of meal, the waitress was particularly attentive, and was seen to be very particular about laying a table once vacated. an excellent choice of venue, to be repeated when next in the town.

The food was amazing and the staff were lovely, would definitely go back!

Superb!! I attended a family birthday gathering and the whole evening was fabulous. We had a separate room overlooking the sea. Our waiter Luke was certainly put through his paces for catering for the large number of us. He was very professional and provided a top notch service throughout the evening. The venue is immaculate inside and the food is excellent. This is the 2nd time that I’ve been and on both occasions, they did not disappoint. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be going back.

Great food! Best calamari I’ve ever had and the fillet was amazing. Really good portions. Fantastic wine and a beautiful view to enjoy. Hannah was our waitress and was very helpful and relaxed. Stairs banister heading up to restaurant need sorting out properly and when I used to toilet it wasn’t a great experience when the toilet moves!

Bland food, terrible service, management created hostile atmosphere, no check back on food, didn’t bring drinks we ordered, terrible drinks. Do not waste your time or money. I can barely chew at the minute due to an impacted wisdom tooth, this made it that much worse due to the lack of flavour and texture. Do not waste your time or money here

Food very average with small portions especially on starters. Very rushed, even brought the bill before we had finished and without us asking for it. Not offered any condiments, had to get up and get peppermill myself.

Went here for special occasion which was booked months in advance . Food excellent as always , but was not happy at all as was husbands birthday and everyone else in there was acknowledged for birthdays except us and we made a point of mentioning it at booking, travelled a long way for trip to Weymouth for special occasion and just wanted this to be nice and special and was just another guest. Might as well have gone to another restaurant . Really disappointed.

A great meal at an affordable price. We visited when it was a different name a few years ago and were little concerned it would not be as good. However, those concerns were gone almost straight away when we walked in. The staff were friendly and the service excellent. The food was plentiful and flavourful too. Highlights were the bruschetta (southern Italian style), Rib Eye Steak and the Tiramisu. Wine selection was also great and some the by the glass wines were well priced against having a bottle. A great experience

Loved our first visit to Oliveto, for our wedding anniversary, it definitely will not be our last. Food was great with very attentive service. We also really enjoyed relaxing on the veranda, after our meal, with a drink listening to the waves wash ashore. Excellent experience.

So we had been here before last year, which was 10/10 no complaints, everything perfect. However our most recent meal, on the day this review was written, has demoted our opinion on Olivieto, to another "what a shame they ruined it". On checking in at our time, our waitress appeared to have some sort of panic, dismissing two other colleagues, muttering under her breath while she jittered around for some reason. This put us on edge, and I couldn't think of any time I've had such an awkward exchange being sat at a table. I had booked our table a month in advance, asking for a table next to the window overlooking the sea for a date on a Tuesday night at 8pm. I didn't think that could be mismanaged, but it was. We were sat halfway down the room, and only one of us able to view out the window. The restaurant had the perfect table free, but I suppose the couple that booked that reserved it a month and a day in advance. After some deliberation , Waitress Two took our orders. I asked for the specials, and Waitress Two questioned who served us as we should be told them beforehand. I wish I knew the staff names, but none of the staff introduced themselves to us - very ironic of you Waitress Two. We both ordered the mussels and seafood risotto. Two of my mussels were dead and unopened. They also had switched from a terrific garlic, white wine sauce to a rather disappointing tomato based sauce for the mussels. The seafood risotto featured four mussels (the only shell on seafood in the main course). Also featuring were three frozen mini prawns, plenty shell-off mussels and a few odd squid rings. To this, they added a good table spoon of parmesan they keep in a cupboard in the corner, making the whole mixture Mac and cheese inspired with whatever bits are going off in your freezer right now. So we won't be returning until the previous chef/inspiration comes back, as our last visit had neither that evening.

Very attentive service and amazing food! Among other things, we had risotto and salmon pasta and both were top notch, and good sized portions, too.

Excellent Italian restaurant. We took our 9 year old grandson there whilst on holiday in Weymouth. Although Spaghetti carbonara was not available as a 'bambini option', we pressed and they provided a half portion our grandson loved it. Food delicious, portions just right, service professional and friendly. It was not a problem for us but the restaurant is only accessible by steps so that would be a problem if you are less mobile.

Fantastic food and very helpful as our son has celiac disease and comadated with a great gluten free meals for little ones. Flora give us great table service and nothing was a problem.

We came for the beautiful view whilst eating and to scope out the menu and ambience for a hopeful venue and private dining. I can honestly say we were blown away. The building outside isn't the best or overly inviting, however once inside it's very beautiful! The menu has great choices and a big note that they do gluten free pasta on request for a small extra charge! With coeliac parents this is a huge plus for future visits with them. Our food was just delicious and plentiful we had starters & mains, wanted desserts but nicely satisfied so instead asked for the bill, a very reasonable price for a wonderful meal. We had a quick show around the private rooms as they were busy but we were very impressed with everything, we can't wait to go back! Highly recommend!

Family of 11 had evening meal that had excellent food for us all. The service was excellent especially the waitress Hannah who looked after us. Will return with out fail.

We think the food has moved downmarket since our previous visits (it's now more like Italian chains offer) but so have the prices so it's still well worth a visit. The pleasant ambience and superb views remain!

Great location, family enjoyed the food. Only one gripe in that I found the veg escalope was too thin on the veg, too thick on the breadcrumbs. The service was excellent, Hannah did an amazing job looking after our party.

What a lovely restaurant. Firstly, dog friendly, this was a massive bonus, to be able to go out for a delightful birthday meal and have our little dog with us was a real treat. The food was equally as good, especially as the portion sizes were good with value to match. To top it off the staff, at no request, popped a candle on the birthday girls dessert and came out singing happy birthday. A really super place 🙌 would definitely come back again and would recommend. Shout out to flora our waitress for her super effort.

We've been visiting Nicetta for so many years and it's a real pleasure to enjoy the fantastic service, views, and above all wonderful food. The whole service team are fantastic, patient, and relaxed, and have dealt with some specific allergies for our family without fuss. We're very glad to keep coming back - many, many thanks!

A very nice Italian restaurant. Many pitches have direct sea views. The restaurant is divided into several small rooms, which means it doesn't get too noisy and stays cozy. The service was very friendly and often responsive. I can highly recommend the Italian cider. Better than the English ones I've had so far. We had the mussels in a large portion and the spaghetti carbonara. The mussels were very tasty, with a great tomato sauce, but unfortunately the carbonara didn't taste authentically Italian and it wasn't pancetta either. Nevertheless, it was very tasty. For dessert we had a tiramisu, which wasn't really tasty. It was very thin in taste and also quite airy and not creamy, possibly due to a lot of cream.

Good view of the beach and sea. Delicious mussels and carbonara (even if carbonara "Roman Style" doesn't come close to the original from Italy). Very good selection of drinks with delicious cider. Unfortunately, tiramisu as a desert isn't really worth it because it consists almost entirely of quark.

Recently attended a WPCC meeting here and enjoyed my visit.

The menu choices, food and especially service headed by our waitress Hannah were all excellent. This all with a view over the sea, luckily on a night with a superb sunset.

We stayed in Weymouth for a week, and we were recommended about this Italian Restaurant, and we weren't disappointed!..... staff were great and helpful, couldn't fault the service, the food was fantastic in my Book and I've been around the World in some Exquisite Restaurants and this was definitely up there so well done to Chef and Staff. But best of all , my lady and I had our photos taken by a member of staff on the balcony sat in some weaved basket chairs over looking the gently crashing waters onto the beach, very Romantic... 🍷

Me and my partner came here tonight for his birthday meal. They bought out his pudding with a candle and sang happy birthday which I never expected but absolutely amazing! Our server (can’t remember the lovely young ladies name) was amazing and so professional. The food was beautiful! And atmosphere was amazing too such a nice laidback, chilled atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place!

Highly recommend the mussels in tomato sauce. The other dishes we tried (steak, seafood risotto) were competent, but not outstanding. Great ambience.
