So i had just been out on central to enjoy a easter holiday with a couple of friends and we had decided to take a visit to ole and steen charing cross which i had visited a few times now. We had came today and had been given the best service from a young man with fast service then normal as i had always had to wait alittle longer due to its busy. We had all taken a seat and i had seen the same young boy doing laps every 5minuets ensuring that all tables and chairs were clean and tidy. I had seen him for the past hours of whilst i was there with excellent customer service and with a smile for its customers. I had asked for his name but i had forgoten but i will 100% be taking a visit to this store again.

Delicious food, great service and charming ambiance made for memorable experience. I had an amazing pastry with very nice coffee.

I ordered a custom made cake for a special birthday and it was just perfect and really delicious! Thanks to Pavan who helped me ordering over the phone and kept me updated so I could save the travel to the store.

We ordered a salmon sandwich and one of them was frozen so definitely not fresh. When we told the staff, instead of getting a replacement they just microwaved it, so I had a warm cream cheese and salmon sandwich!!! They also didn't give us milk for our tea so I went and asked for some and the lady didn't even speak to me she just nodded and gave it to me. Nice looking place but the staff need a bit more training and to not serve frozen food!

I visited Ole & Steen near Leicester Square during evening time. I was in mood for a quick snack and coffee. While at the till, I saw the senior lady whispering something to a younger staff girl and move away, then the girl asked me in most disinterested way what I wanted. I ordered Pastrami Rye Sandwich with Flat White. When prepared, I took the order and went upstairs. The Sandwich felt like made from plastic, bread soggy with sauce, Pastrami hard and like something left in the sandwich since morning, definitely not fresh at all. Flat White was more like milk with a touch of coffee, something I can prepare at home with my coffee machine. Upstairs tables were messy with cups and leftover food, no-one there to clear them, all this in Central London. I am clueless how they get away with service and quality like this. If I could go a point lower than 1/5, this is the place that deserves it.

Came here with a few friends to enjoy some pastries and I absolutely loved it! I was amazed on There variety of food and coffees. Best thing i enjoyed was the tunermelt toastie which i loved and most certainly would come back. Staff are well organised with each member doing its bit. Would certainly recommend coming back here and looking forward to taking another journey to this store. Thanks ole and steen

Excellent food, the cinnamon social recommended. However, the store is a dump. The floor is covered with dust and left overs. Tables not cleaned with used cups and plates from previous guests. Staff seem to be not very interested so in my opinion more supervising is needed.

Firstly, I am a great fan of Ole & Steen products and over the last few years have regularly frequented the Strand and Guildford branches. This branch in Charing Cross Road was however a new low for Ole & Steen that I had not experienced before. Whilst the food was of a good standard (a Mince Pie Social and Blueberry Muffin), and the drinks (Earl Grey tea and Latte) were adequate, the establishment was filthy and in desperate need of a deep clean. There seemed to be a lack of staff (we saw three while we were there- two upfront, one out the back) so the tables were full of used cups, plates, cutlery and spillages of both drinks and food. We had to clear a table, adding to another table nearby, and upon running a wet wipe over the table it came up black/brown! The chairs, floor and toilets all needed a thorough clean. For a food establishment we felt this was unacceptable and during the day had been in many shops with a high footfall that were vastly cleaner. Unfortunately, we did not see the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme result, but working in that environment we must question whether the staff and shop hygiene can be at the standard expected for a food outlet. Two out of five was for the food. We know Ole & Steen can, and must, do better.

An extremely busy cafe off Leiceister square with a sole GF chocolate cake. Sadly we had to remind the serving staff to use a pair of gloves to select the GF cake as they were going to use a pair of prongs which had touched the gluten products. Staff should be more aware of cross-contamination risks. The coffee was nice and the chocolate cake was rich with ganache. You will have to pounce on a table as it is exceptionally busy here. There was a lovely waitress who cleared our table and told us about the sole GF option before we ordered.

We arrived at 6.30 on a Monday. Three staff behind the counter, not doing much. Every table was covered in dirty cups and crumbs. Upstairs was filthy and every table was covered in dirty cups and plates. Loos were filthy and no toilet roll. So there was basically no management and staff who don’t care. Avoid!!

One of the most enjoyable caffe i have been to and absolutely love the range of food, cakes and pasteries they have selling. I specifically love this store as its huge and have seating outside as well as upstairs. Would definitely recommend going to

Food was O.K and staff friendly (although they got our order wrong). However, seating in this place is massively irritating. 80%+ of the tables tsken up by people who had obviously finished single drinks ages ago and just squatting doing laptop work, reading books, phone messaging, etc. This was midweek mid-afternoon and you couldn't sit down, upstairs or downstairs. Eventually, we asked for the drinks part of the order to be transferred to take out and as we left one small table became free. It took us c. 15 minutes to order, ten to walk around for a table and ten+ to drink/eat. So, half an hour and around us nearly everyone had been there when we arrived and the staff did nothing to 'move them on'!

We came on a Sunday afternoon so it was guaranteed to be busy, however, I have a lot to say. We spent £4 on a hot chocolate that was put in a takeaway cup instead of a proper mug, as they were so busy, despite the fact we were drinking in. You could tell the staff making the drinks were rushed off their feet, very stressed and under pressure so I didn’t mind so much waiting 10/15 minutes for one drink. When we finally received the drink I must say it was the worst hot chocolate I have ever drank in my whole life. I think bin water would taste nicer. You couldn’t taste even a hint of chocolate in the drink, it tasted chemically and so strange. We saw no point in complaining to the staff about how terrible it was as we would have been waiting 10/15 minutes for another which would likely be just as bad. The only good thing I can say about this experience was the staff were lovely and the drink was warm. Apart from that everything was awful and I wont be stepping foot in another Ole & Steen again, nor will I be recommending this place to anyone.

This was one of the most frustrating gastronomic experiences I have had. Walked into Ole & Steen near Leicester Square in the hope of getting some breakfast. There was a slideshow-type menu on the wall that kept rotating between various items: breakfast, danishes, sandwiches, coffee etc, quite a few sections. It didn’t stay in any section for very long so it was hard to work out what one wanted and when it moved on, you had to wait for the relevant one to come round again. When it was our turn to be served, I still hadn’t had a chance uk read through the breakfast menu, so I asked the person at the till if they had the breakfast menu anywhere that stayed still, like printed. “No”, she said. “Oh that’s frustrating, we’ll have to wait for it to come round again”, I said and started to order our drinks. Whilst doing that, I saw a bunch of printed menus on the table behind the till. I asked if I could take a look at one of them, to speed up the process. “No”. Seriously?! I asked her again and she then went to ask the barista, coming back with “she says no and she’s the manager.” If I hadn’t had two starving teenagers with me, who were disappointed at not having made it to a TikTok favourite brunch place because of the long queue, I would definitely have left. As it was, we stayed, had some coffee and pretty forgettable sandwiches. Next time, rain or shine, we will queue for the TikTok-famous place.

2nd visit to an Ole & Steen and the feedback is very consistent. Good coffee, good cakes (but not as good as Gails) and terrible service. The wait to be served is bonkers as is the time it takes to get a coffee. Meanwhile staff chat to each with not a care in the world as tables pile up with dirty cups and plates. We won't be returning.

Upstairs seating was very pleasant. Delightful pastries, notably the cinnamon social and Christmas special. A good selection of items and quick service. Lovely Christmas decor both inside and out.

Ole And Steen is one of those wonderful coffee stops. Alway nice coffee and pastries. Our visit on Sunday 4th December 2022 was to top up on a bit of food before our Christmas shopping day in the City. The coffee was superb as served by a young Lady barista and served us so well. However, the other young girl and the guy with glasses couldn't be bothered. The guy didn't talk back when spoken to and also cleaned our tables with cleaner whilst we were still eating and drinking!!! When we left we said thank you and he couldn't even be bothered to respond. RUDE. However, as a side note, the young Lady sitting upstairs on her break was helpful when I couldn't get into the toilet (where the dryer didn't work). Won't be returning to this Ole And Steen.
