Old English Gentleman in Kingston upon Hull, City of

If you are planning on visiting the Old English Gentleman it is vital you call ahead. They are often closed by 2100 during the week. As early as 1800 on a Sunday. It's advertised everywhere it opens at 1500 but it is still sometimes locked up well past that time. Once you do get in, the beer is good. Usually 2 hand pull ales on and a good selection of lagers. Prices are on the high side but that's down to it being next to Hull New Theatre which is only a 2 minute walk if going for pre or post show drinks. Usually very friendly staff but check the prices because different staff charge different prices. I'd recommend the Old English Gentleman for a quick drink or a session, but that's if it is open. The don't serve food anymore, just crisps and snacks.

Fabulous traditional pub. A little hidden gem, definitely worth a visit when your in town.

A lovely old English pub in the heart of Hull to the rear of the Hull New theatre. I passed here and visited for a beer plenty of parking at the rear

Traditional old-style pub with a couple of well-kept real ales. Perfectly placed for a theatre drink and one of my city centre favourites for a quiet relaxed drink.

The wife and i stopped for a quick pint during our afternoon walk. Enjoyed the atmosphere among the locals and of course the fascinating photos of actors from the past and we are of an age were we could recognize many of them from our childhood. We will be visiting again

Nice at times just like most pubs if you stopping for one pint then onto the next enjoy...has changed hand recently..

Great bar that is opposite the old Fire Station that now fronts Hull New Theatre. Lots of stars of yesteryear have stepped foot in this bar. Good selection of beers at reasonable prices.

Nice pub off the beaten track. Directly behind the theater and festooned with memorabilia of current and bygone actors and actresses. A good feeling to the pub.

Wonderful pint of Guinness,nice warm welcoming pub

Didn't eat, we just had a few drinks after the pantomime. The 1st drink was flat, so this is why we gave 4 stars.

I used to drink in this pub when I started work in 1978. The layout has changed, but the range of beers has extended from Hull Brewery. The ambience has remained unchanged, and it's well worth a visit just to browse the photos. A great pub.

Many thanks to the staff of the Old English Gentleman for the buffet for our Dad's Memorial Service. The staff were incredibly friendly, kind and helpful, the food was lovely and we didn't feel rushed. Can't praise them highly enough!

Always love this pub. Great old world charm and the photo collection of stars down the ages is good for showing your age.

The old English gentleman is an unspoilt proper gem of a pub. It's pretty much the same as it was when I first walked through the doors over 45 years ago. It's a lovely friendly pub. Slightly away from the town centre so it avoids all the idiots. A good selection of cask conditioned real ale. The walls are adorned with photographs of the stars who have appeared at the New Theatre next door, and often called in for a drink. If you're nearby call in for a drink, highly recommended.

Classic Hull pub. I didn't eat there so I've not rated the food. This is great for a quote drink and to spend a while looking at the many many photos of stars from the past who have visited while performing at Hull New Theatre just over the road. It gets busy if you go just before a show at the theatre. Anyone visiting Hull needs to pop in here for a pint.

Traditional pub located behind the New Theatre. Parking is available on the street nearby. They sell a range of local and big brand beers on draught. It's comfortable and friendly with lots of photos on the walls of visiting actors from the theatre which all add to its character. Staff are welcoming and service is good. It does get busy before and after shows at the theatre.

This is a great pub! Good beer and a nice selection of whisky (and whiskey from our cousin's over the pond) served by a friendly bar. When I'm in the area again I'll be back.

AMAZING STAFF! Everyone here is warm and friendly but Nathan is an absolute gem! A lovely cosy pub with a good selection of drinks, a piano if anyone wants to play it and board games! There's also the added bonus of possibly bumping into whoever is on stage at Hull New Theatre if you're in there after the show!

Pricey for normal beer. A a choice of two real ales which were less dear.

My first visit for quite a few years and really enjoyed it. It's not really changed over the years which is a good thing as people go to sample the history of the place with its connection with Hull New Theatre and look at the pictures of all the stars who have frequented the pub when having an aftershow drink.

Used to love popping in when we lived in Hull centre , Traditional pub great atmosphere and friendly faces , very rare these days. Will pop in again soon .

I remember this pub from 1980 and 1983, when I was doing my 2nd Mate (FG) and 1st Mate (FG) tickets at Hull Nautical College, which used to be on George Street. Great beers and a neat old-fashioned local pub.

The only pub that I knew of that my late father would visit many years ago. Thought it was very nice. Enjoyed my visit.

It will get better when the kitchen opens up again.
