OK Diner in South Derbyshire

I have been using this OK dinner for 24 years, always loved it. So after a few months away I went back with my family. Now they have taken up that stupid system of having to put your car number plate into the computer system. They have joined the surveillance society and war against cars. We just walked out for the last time there. Wake up people.

Went in to eat and only two tables of people eating. Asked for a table of 4 and was told it would be an hours wait for food. Make member of staff said this in a rude way and so it did not make us feel welcome or that we wanted to wait the hour.

Yeah, that was the worst location I've ever been. The food was so bad that I wish I could go back in time and never have digested it—in fact, I wouldn't even call it food. Additionally, I received a fine for parking in their lot, and the restaurant declined to assist me claiming it had no connection to them.

Went on Wednesday for 8 pound deal. Both me and other half had cheeseburgers which were nice. Also had milkshake and waffles. Food better than expected. And service pretty good.

BEWARE!! totally ruined experience as received parking fine. The diners parking has CCTV monitored parking now in place As a regular user, this was not warned that changes would take place, and no additional warnings from staff when entering. TAKE NOTE: WARNING!!!

Food is ok, service is awful , in fact beyond awful.. not enough staff, this is the 3rd time we have given it a chance and it just never get's better.I feel sorry for the staff themselves they are rushed off their feet . The management should put more staff on and realise they are crap at managing a restaurant, and sack themselves.We won't be back.

My Wife and I visited on a Sunday morning for breakfast. There appeared to be only one member of staff greeting customers, taking orders and waiting on. I must say that although she was rushed off her feet, she was very friendly and professional. We ordered two over priced so called "the bigger one" breakfasts and two coffees. Two tiny mugs of coffee arrived quickly and I know you get free refills but the staff member was too busy to refill them. The breakfasts looked like they had been thrown on the plate from six feet away. Nearly £30 for two poor breakfasts and tiny coffees. Total rip off!!!

We arrived 6:40PM for a quick bite while on the road. There's only one occupied table and they have are currently eating. Lady staff came to us and told us that we need to wait for 20 mins to be seated and 45 minutes for the food. Knowing in her mind they close at 8pm. I asked why we need to wait for 20 mins to be seated when the diner is nearly empty. She said there's no staff. Obviously, we're an incovenience to them who clearly made us feel they want to call it a day ASAP and wished there are no more customers dropping by. If they don't have intention to serve dinner due to "no staff" , why put open til 8? They should just close earlier if they can't remain open. We will never waste our time in this diner again.

Amazing service here at the Derby Diner! Nigel was amazing! on his own he kept the show running at a very high standard, and was super cheerful and charismatic! Great visit!

Despite only two staff being on duty one waiting staff and one chef , we were served quickly and efficiently our server was very nice and helpful . the food was delicious. We all had burgers and milkshakes which were out of this world. How a place this size can be run on only two staff seemed very wrong . our server was doing everything checking people in showing them to tables taking orders, clearing tables taking food out washing up preparing drinks, credit to her though she coped really well . The food was great also.

Who ever the cook was on bank holiday monday morning, needs to he sent to a cookery school as the toast came out like coal , if they can't do toast they shouldn't be in the kitchen:

I mean...it's OK. The food is alright and my chicken was pretty nice actually. The staff are lovely but the problem - and this has always been the problem in the dozens of times I visited before I decided it wasn't worth it - the lack of numbers when it comes to staffing. There are only so many times you can hear staff explain that there will be a long wait due to staff not appearing before you wonder what on earth is going on and what the management is doing. Prices have gone up and yet staffing seems to have gone down. The worst part of the visit is always waiting to get the bill. Normally it is about 20 minutes, which is cracking when you want to like...leave. If you're in no rush then fine. The fact that this was my first trip in at least a year despite living ten minutes away probably says a lot.

Called in yesterday staff were good food terrible curly fries overcooked sausage over cooked pare burger burned and hard bottom eggcovered in black bits and all of it looked like it was thrown on a plate the 2 chef ruined that been there lots of times never again

Had a lovely meal here last night. Staff we're great. The chef did one of our burgers wrong & gave it us for free. He didnt have to as we we're ok having it & it got eaten. We've been here a few times & it's always good. Good food & good service 😊

Not impressed with the cleanliness of place lack of staff. No enthusiasm in the serving of customers and no speed we saw 1 couple leave and 1 man. Man got fed up of waiting at door the couple needed to get back to work and there were 3 tables before them so we're told they would not be able to cook for them. Curly fries were crunchie little pieces no choice in cheese or at least was not asked. Toilets smelt nice but no way up toa standard of clean. Spoilt by the ok Diner in Tickencote

Popped down for a quick evening dinner, was seen to quickly, with food not far behind. Nice place for a chill meal out with good burgers and good desserts

Oh dear. Business seemed to have just three staff, two male one female. Upon my arrival, both males were out the back having a chat / smoke break leaving the female alone. It was a little busy; I arrived about 1150am. Despite being alone, the Waitress coped fairly well and I gave my order promtly and waited. And waited.... I'd only ordered a fried breakfast which, under ideal conditions should have taken perhaps 5 or 6 minutes to serve. After about 25mins, I asked what was happening. The Waitress returned saying, "it's just being cooked now". People who'd arrived after me had just been served. Clearly, my order had been forgotten. Eventually, my food arrived. Mediocre breakfast and, wasn't exactly what I'd ordered. I was in a hurry to make an appointment at 1.00pm so gobbled down the food without making a fuss and left in a hurry. Waitress did her best, Manager and Cook were rubbish. Will I ever go back.......? Now let me see....... NO!!

The only place i know where the bigger breakfast you have the less bacon you get. Ordinary breakfast two bacon, bigger breakfast one bacon!!! Free refills on coffee if you can attract their attention, saw a lad in the kitchen with a handful of grated cheese but NO gloves on and the final straw the bill was incorrect.

0 stars absolutely shocking expensive to the food was horrible the chips where not French fries the burger bun was hard the burger it self was to over cooked the milk shake was weak boyfriend said it didn’t taste right the lad behind the counter kept touching his hair how bad is that he was shaking his head to get his hair right the girls behind the counter where chatting when we walked in we asked to sit at the back sat down then told to move not happy for what u get it’s expensive not going there again the menu is very expensive for what u get even the breakfast £9.75 go to the pub down the road it’s half that price mill house it’s very nice I will not be returning no thanks 1st and last time want my money back

Best milkshakes around as actually made with ice cream. I had a burger and was slightly underwhelmed as it just seemed to be your average burger from a packet. Service was friendly. Will definitely go again.

I ordered a burger. I went to put some sauce on the burger and the chef had cut out a triangle piece of beef bigger than a 50p piece. I told the waiter who looked and he said they have to cut out the beef to see if it is cooked. I didnt understand as my partner's burger was intact. They must not have temperature probes to check. I told him why should I pay for something with the beef missing which is the most expensive part and he said 'that's the way it is'. I told him I won't be eating the meal. The waiter said they will get another burger. I waited 10 minutes and a waitress came over and the same happened again a large chunk of beef cut out. I had to ask then for some extra chips as they had not got any common sense to recompense me. In hindsight I should have just left as it ruined the meal. How the staff thought I should pay for a burger with a large hole in I can't understand. Beef is the most expensive part of the meal. I am really put off going back. A shame as the previous time I went there I had no issues.

Lovely little spot. Went for for birthday lunch and it was right up my alley. So worth a visit if you want an authentic 50’s/60’s American experience! Such a cute little place, loved the decor and the music too. Food and milkshakes 10/10! Lovely staff too.

Saw this was close to where we were staying in Derby and love an American themed restaurant. Was a bit worried it was at a motorway services, but as soon as we walked in the waitress was friendly and gave us enough time to look at the extensive menu ( looked delicious menu) decided on a burger which was massive and really tasty, but beat me in the end. Friend had fried chicken with a jacket potato ( with proper American style sour cream) was was the best fried chicken she'd tasted in long time ( she's picky) Amazing service and delightful and engaging waitress, biggest tip we've left in ages.Highly recommended

Excellent service. Never been to this OK diner before as usually use the one in mold on the way to Wales. Accidentally ended up at this one as trying to get to the one in cannock after a visit to Cadbury World. No idea how but we did. Glad we did though! Food was great with American tasting burgers, hot dogs, coleslaw and the usual fayre you'd expect with US style milkshake in a glass with your little bit in the metal cup. These are a must for any proper milkshake fan to enjoy is retro American decor. The staff were just as good as the food. Helpful, friendly and attentive. Would recommend this one just a shame it's not closer. To where I live. Join up to the ok diner club to get 15% off. Wonderful wonderful experience.

We called in after a weekend at a wet outdoor event. The food was lovely and the dining area was clean. All the staff were friendly and working well as a team, especially Jay who was really making all the customers feel welcome and made a lovely double chocolate milkshake!

I visited today with my Wife and we were amazed by how greatly improved this place was. We have not visited for several months after having some terrible experiences but I must say the food was excellent as was the service, especially from the young tattooed Waitress. Well done OK Diner!!!!

This used to be a good place for a burger or a hot dog and a milkshake. Today was a big disappointment, service was slow (our apologetic greeting gave a hint of what was to follow) the place appeared to be run by halfwits who hadn't a clue, and the food, when it eventually arrived, was cold, overcooked and left to dry out for an eternity. Presentation was slapdash; randomly piled on cold plates and then left to dry and cool further. The milkshakes were ok. We won't go there again.

What a shame. This is my favourite place for breakfast yet it’s really gone down hill. The staff are still absolutely lovely however two weeks running now we’ve waited over 40 minutes for food and the food has been luke warm.

Visited here in January for my brothers birthday. When we arrived we were told the heating wasn't working so we were uncomfortable from the off but had read good reviews so decided to grin and bear it. There were 2 wait staff who appeared to be in training. The lead waitress was constantly complaining about having to train them, the kitchen staff were constantly complaining loudly about having to wait ages for them to collect the food. Kept trying to get the wait staffs attention to tell them we hadn't received everything but couldn't get anyone to come over. Didn't come and ask how the food was otherwise we would have told them the food was lukewarm and we were missing bits. Don't think we will be visiting again.

I called before visiting, was advised there was a seperate gluten free menu, there isn't. When we got there I asked if the chips were gluten free, I was advised yes then I asked about the fryer, they weren't cooked separately. When I asked for butter I was given one with toast crumbs in, obviously I didn't touch the butter or have the chips but the lack of knowledge around allergy processes is very concerning. I've since been unwell. Service was incredibly slow. The setting was nice, and my partner enjoyed the milkshake but the overall hygiene was not up to scratch.

Found this place on the en-route to my new workplace and decided to give it a try for breakfast with my wife on a Saturday morning when I wouldn't be in a hurry. Boy, what a find! May be a little more expensive than your average 'greasy spoon' but the quality of food and the service is totally worth it. Been every weekend for the past three weeks. Tip: apply for the 'OK Rocker' card (see website) which gives you 15% off your bill at any of their diners ;-)

We've been a couple times now and both times the food has been good and reasonably priced. Hot dogs for the kids and burgers for the adults. They have been good on both occassions and the milkshakes are very good, not too gloopy and full of flavour and not too sweet. Service was quick and the kids meals are quite large so beware if the kids are under 5. Kids eat free off the kids menu for every full paying adult. Diner was clean on both visits.

We come here a lot. Breakfasts are fab. Would love there to be veggie sasages and a proper soa/ wuorn burger...top tip, most.vegetarians and vegans prefer soya/plant based to bean burgers these days!Fingers crossed the veggie range improves! Love refil coffee and coke, alway a plus and kids wating free makes this often cheaper than macdonnals and far better food!

A great meal with drinks and a smile! A varied menu with something for everybody and brilliant music!

Superb! Fantastic staff, superb food, best music in the world - and that was just the car par!. If you have never been to an OK diner you have never lived - and this is one of the best. An experience to relish for the rest foo your life. Don't mess about - just go there and have hot dogs, burgers and milk shake - you will never recover.

I have not visited for 4 years due to poor service but I am sorry to say things have not got better. Overpriced breakfasts, served by rude staff that give the impression they can't be bothered!

We were served by a young girl by the name of Courtney, her attitude was appalling! She sounded like she didn't want to be there at all and her face said it to! Will not be coming back unless the staff are sorted out!

Call in again after a year & the food was excellent however I must say I was disappointed when the waiter put the bill on the table before we had finished the meal & drinks.

Beautiful food, excellent pricing..can’t wait to come again. Free children’s meals on weekdays mean we can finally afford to eat out as a family, thank you! It’s a shame other restaurants don’t follow suit.

Me and my family have been coming here regularly here for years. The milkshakes used to be amazing despite costing a fair bit, so have always put up with the very rude service provided by some of the staff. However, we visited here on Friday and the milkshakes were warm and half the amount they normally are. When I questioned the server (who I think is actually the manager) she said they were the right amount as other servers normally 'over serve' more than they should. Then she goes on to tell me the freezer isn't working properly so the ice cream isn't as thick. Surely this is a food hygiene issue??? No offer to replace or refund the bill. We will never be going back to this place.

Grease in the word !! What an amazing place, a real throwback to days gone by. Plenty of parking, and easy to get to.

Typical american style diner that offers the standard fayre but of a better than average standard. The large breakfast is excellangt, well cooked and efficently served by staff who seem to care. I cannot find better locally early on Sunday morning, it opens at 8.00am.

Arrived about 3pm for a late lunch, really hungry but once seated we were ignored for at least half an hour, not even offered drinks. We were on the point of walking out when the next shift arrived, they were fine but had to pick up the early shifts work. Disappointing, won't go again.
