this cafe has become a favourite of ours.... serving excellent coffee/cappuccino/hot chocolate and delicious cakes. BUT .... today was the most appalling service. we ordered at the counter as usual but after 20 minutes our hot drinks and cake had not arrived. I went to the counter to ask how much longer we had to wait....... this was met with indifference from the waitress who took my order. she said another 3 minutes (no apology or explanation). about 7 minutes later she turned up with our tray. again no apology and not even a smile when I politely thanked her. I hate to be unkind.... but I think perhaps some customer service training may be needed..... her attitude was so very off-putting.

There is a real effort to offer something here but concept is average and service speed and ability too inconsistent. The location sells NOT the concept! Bite the bullet; bring in a professional to teach service and basic kitchen skills and get this high profile place off the ground! The pop up seafood cafe at Lower Town does less and attracts more! A skillful operator here aiming for fresh fish, lobster, crab lunches in season and breakfast and afternoon teas all year round will one day make this the number one place to dine in Fishguard Bay. Sorry to say, the place needs focus, a business plan or concept realization and much more effort by management.

Breakfast was very poor, inedible shards of overcooked oven bacon, sausages ok, beans in a small coffee cup with a hard skin on top. Fried egg ( the only egg option) very hard, no runny yolk. And a bread roll as staff ( friendly) advised there was no bread ( 10am) Carpet and floors very dirty with grass, mud and food crumbs, we were the first customers of the day. Gift shop was well stocked with great goods and clean.

Thank goodness the Ocean Lab Cafe changed hands at Easter 2023. Their Barista coffee is superb and the cakes delicious. I will definitely be going along for breakfast soon especially since they teamed up with our local nourish bakery. Looking forward to lunch later in the week. The staff are extremely friendly and efficient. The cafe has been redecorated and upgraded before their recent opening and is bright, fresh and very clean. Plenty of tables outside to stop for a coffee after taking our dog for a walk on the designated beaches nearby.

Delicious food and wonderful Teifi coffee. My husband and I are coffee snobs so we love Teifi coffee, made in Wales from freshly ground beans...the only sort I will drink. Also recommend the loose leaf tea (where else can you get this in Pembrokeshire?), breakfast rolls and carrot cake! Can't wait to try the rest of the menu! The atmosphere is very welcoming and happy. Would highly recommend a tour of the aquarium or a seashore safari before/after your meal to discover the amazing creatures that are hidden below the Pembrokeshire waves. So good to know that all proceeds from the cafe, shop and tours goes towards conserving our sea life :)

Couldn't fault the staff who were friendly enough. But the coffee and hot chocolate from their machine was absolutely grim. Push button machines are never good, but the coffee was watery, sweet and tasted terrible. Hot chocolate also from machine was watery and tasteless. Spray cream on top did nothing to help. Cakes looked good, but glad we didn't purchase. 1 sip was enough, we got up and left our full cups behind. Yuck!! Venue could be fabulous, if they just invested in a proper machine and some training.

We both ordered a salad, which came in a bowl, loads of lettuce, sliced tomato and cucumber, a sprinkle of carrot and spring onion with your choice ham or coronation chicken on top, a piece of baguette and butter. Costing £8.50. We asked if they had coleslaw, which cost an extra £1.50 each portion. We thought this was not value for money. Why does it cost £10 to eat healthy?? I know I could go up the road get pie and chips for about £4.50. Putting that to one side, nice friendly staff and beautiful area, we love it. We won’t be having a salad there again.

Stopped here for a quick break and a coffee and piece of cake. The staff were pleasant, the arrangements for covid very safe. There was seating ouside but a bit limited and could do with refreshing. Overall the coffee was good as was the cake. There is a nice view over the ferry terminal. There are toilet facilities in the cafe and nearby. Car parking nearby is charged for although there is a free car park over the road. This is a bit wierd as most councils have abolished car park charges to attract trade. Still this is not really anything to do with the cafe!

We popped in for an afternoon snack, after a long coast path walk. We ordered from the board, not realising there was a standard menu (may be that could be clearer for new visitors?), had spicey potato wedges, which when they arrived we found were covered in grated cheese - more like cheesy chips - we ate them anyway but it was not what we were expecting. A comfortable place to watch the world go by - would have liked to try a different meal from the menu. Perhaps next time!

We visited the Ocean Lab Coffee shop around lunchtime today, now being a bank holiday, and being dry it was no great surprise to find there was not a table trees on the ground floor, so despite my disabilities and reliance upon my walking stick I left my partner to obtain our refreshments and headed upstairs to grab a table, the first one in fact with the bucket chairs, and was joined at the table by my son I tried to connect on my smart phone only to find I had no signal, and so on looking around I noticed at the other end of the first floor a free WiFi sign, I asked my commit he would mind popping along to it and obtaining the necessary password for me which he black did, and, the password was "ask at reception" so in other words no password would be obtainable without one of the other of us heading back down stairs and asking?? Not exactly welcoming or conducive to a relaxing ambience, especially being as explained, disabled! Now I know full well the type of response that would be given by the staff and proprietors of establishments such as this, "we don't put our password on show as we do not want non customers taking advantage of our free service"! So please try telling that excuse to the two youngsters sat at the very next table to our own where there's also a sign telling visitors not to eat their own food in the cafe or they would be required to leave, now neither youth had so much as a glass of water or packet of crisps between them, and yet they were both firmly seconded in their seats with their noses adhering to the screens of their smartphones absolutely mopping up that free WiFi android totaly unmolested for absolutely free for most of the time my family were here. So already not in the best of moods my partner arrived upstairs with our refreshments, as a 'trreat' to go with our own latte coffee she'd purchased two Welsh cakes each for us, so putting mine on my own plate I was slightly concerned at the allowance of one butter part of the small gold foil wrapped variety between two Welsh cakes, not exactly generous! And then on touching the Welsh cakes I discovered they were distinctly chilly, more so even than the hard cold butter?? Now a good Welsh cake should be fairly moist in my opinion, these may well have been so but they were so cold as to be very camp and have the impression of being pulled out of at least a fridge or chilled display? Now call me old fashioned but every place I have previously eaten a Welsh cake has served my cakes at a temperature substantially warmer than ambient room temperature, and in most cases warmed reasonably thoroughly the butter at minimum melting through the pastry on application, not so here in Goodwicks Ocean Lab Cafe? So maybe I'm being a little pedantic? But then again from my usual reviews I believe you will see I don't set out to destroy anyplace, far from it, I seek out the positives even where such things are difficult! But here I have to be negative!! My partner BTW did go all the way down and obtain the WiFi code for me, (octopus123) for those caught out similarly!! And then a member of staff came up stairs to clear a table, I made my complaint to him exactly as set out here, he failed to even to take ownership of the issue, or make any form of apology at all!! Working in a position where customer satisfaction is considered a key skill I was really perturbed by this lack of response at this venue! Now we might well have considered afterwards whilst browsing the gift shop that we would visit the ocean lab itself, but to be honest the lack of any customer care or professionalism in the cafe had left a bad taste in our mouths that actually made us shy away from visiting in case the same as hoc treatment persisted through the whole venue, I did however buy a silver ring from the gift shop for my partner, somewhat by way of an apology for the mood the shoddy customer care standards had instilled in me rather more than for making yet more revenue for the Ocean Lab itself!!

I have the location in my GPS from a few years ago, so I knew the food was good - but at Easter time I was concerned the Ocean Lab Coffee Shop might be closed for 'Bank Holiday'.How reassuring: "We are open every day of the year except Christmas and New Year's Day" This is a proper attitude to service.I ordered Bacon sandwich 'well done' on three occasions. Cooked quickly, presented with Corn Chips (aka Crisps in UK) and a salad garnish.I'm not a salad fan but their Corn Chips are fresh and crisp.Alongside the Coffee Shop is a gift shop with maps/postcards and souvenirsAfter lunch I walked the length of the breakwater; the wind could be described as 'very brisk'.When in Pembrokeshire, I will certainly be back to the Ocean Lab cafe.

My companion and I both ordered home made tomato and basil soup. We were served two bowls of red liquid, having the consistency of water. The soup was totally without flavour and we complained. We were refunded the total cost and were told that this was not up to their normal standard. We noticed upon leaving that the soup was still advertised on the 'Specials' board. We will not be returning.

What a lovely place to have a coffee and one of their delicious home made cakes! They also do very nice home made lunches. The coffee shop is situated right at the seaside, with wonderful views on Fishguard Bay. Very close to the ferry port (Stena Line to Ireland), which makes it a good place to go to if you have to wait for the ferry (or if you've just arrived). Or if you just want to have a nice walk on the beach or the breakwater. There's also a small exhibition room about the local sea life in the bay.Always nice and clean, good service, very friendly staff, delicious food and coffees. There's also a Facebook page where you can find special offers, sometimes. :) It's https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Coffee-Shop-Ocean-Lab-Goodwick/130152893711584

We live in Goodwick, so visit the Ocean Lab cafe quite often for a coffee and sometimes a piece of cake. The Latte is always excellent and a very reasonable price. We particularly like it in winter as you can sit inside nice and warm with your coffee and feel like you are almost outside with the panoramic views through the almost 180 degree glass frontage.Only 4 stars rather than 5, as on a couple of occasions now we have shared a piece of cake between us as well and it has been dry and stale. If the cake looks like it has been sitting there for a while, then it probably has and will more than likely be dry and stale. I know business' need to make a profit and avoid wastage, but a couple of times more recently we have not ordered a piece of cake for this very reason. You could argue that they are actually doing themselves out of business by not disposing of stale produce and replacing it with fresh produce.

Nice cafe. We started off having a nice Ice cream and then we had something to eat. The menu wasnt that big and I had a salad which was delicious. My son was a bit miffed that the smoked sausage panini was actually a smoked hot dog and not actual sausage. But he still enjoyed it. He then stated there on the free wifi while I went and sunbathed on the beach. The aquariums there wereTiny but the chap on hand to give info out about them made up for the size of the tanks. It has so much potential to grow and its so sad to see parts closed down. Why not open in tourist months and just have the coffee shop and gift shop ( where I got some fab presents) for the winter? Too good to lose. Please support it! ( from a scouser who loved fishguard so much I want to move there)

This is a good place to nip in for a quick snack lunch. Baguettes soups etc all freshly made. We prefer eating outside but the weather has to be kind to enable this!!!!

Much more than a 'coffee shop' Wide range of dishes and various jams and chutneys for sale. Than take a walk on the breakwater until your boat comes in.

We were struggling to find something to do in the Fishguard area due to an unusual day of wet weather. We headed down to the ocean lab having recognised the name on the sign with a leaflet in our cottage folder. We were disappointed, parking was not free (as was mentioned in leaflet), there was a coffee shop but everything else was closed, with a sign saying something about the council no longer being responsible for this exhibition and there being no entry. This included the coastal exhibition, the soft play area and the cyber cafe. Very disappointing and sad looking despite there being a few people working hard to keep it going. We felt that it needed some finance from local council.

Ocean Lab Coffee Shop is a nice little cafe to pop into for a coffee and cake. The offer of a coffee refill is unusual but welcome.I felt that the cafe was somewhat limited on selection but what they did was quite acceptable. The view from the cafe was good overlooking Fishguard/Goodwick Bay.

We live in the village. Keen to support local business ... but sorry... Awful. The food was awful! Dry and old. They did offer an alternative but it was SO awful that I was happy to leave. Never again.

Went for lunch at this venue yesterday. Don't order the garlic mushroom starter as it's a rip off. Got one puny slice of bread with what would probably equate to about two button mushrooms and creamy sauce, although it tasted great, come on £7.95 for this. Previously had more value for money with the previous owners. The small plate ham & egg was very good though and the service off Gleisny was good as always.

Didn’t disappoint. Lovely meals all served with humongous Yorkshire puds! Lashings of gravy and the cheesy leek dish was the best!
