Ocean Chinese Take Away in East Riding of Yorkshire

Ordered Beef & Cashew nuts. Sadly beef had very little flavour, however this may of been due to the gravy which unlike most beef and cashew gravy that is a rich substantial gravy, this poured from the tray with the consistency of water...

We love Ocean Chinese. In my opinion, their vegetable curry is the very best and they also do a superb special fried rice. And my wife thinks their special chop suey is first class.

Tried this takeaway for the 1st time, who supplied superb, large, and readily identifiable King Prawns at a competitive price, unlike Dawaat. Can readily recommend their extensive wall menu (which you can photo) and their spot on service.

Food was really nice and tasty - thoroughly enjoyable. No credit card option though which would have been good as I only had an overseas debit card - no major drama though as there was a cash machine across the road.

First of all, woman immediately made it clear that credit card costs too much money for her to process, and it must be a debit card, immediately made me feel uncomfortable. I placed the order and said i’d be back in 10 minutes. When i returned she made a passing comment “i thought you wasnt coming back” it was 9minutes i was gone for. Now to the food… Chicken balls the size of nuggets, only 6 in a box, horrible. Beef in black bean sauce was a gloopy mess, hardly any beef. Disgusting. Overpriced and taking short cuts on food quality. Outrageous that you can charge the money you do for that food. Will never be using again.

Having been a customer of this establishment for around 25 years, which still has the original ownership and people involved, I can say that during those years the food served has been enjoyed by my wife and myself, and sometimes our family many times over. One or two hiccups along the way when for some reason we thought that our food was not of their usual standard. It was a rare occurrence and having sampled other Chinese establishments offering we soon went back Ocean. We knew that overall Ocean was hard to beat.

Chinese dishes the way they should be, no-frills just great tasting authentic dishes

Its generally pretty good but every now and then you get a substandard dish. (Usually overcooked fried food)

Best chinese takeaways I’ve had, I’ve been going here all my life. Would recommend!

This is the wife's favourite Chinese, she loves a spicy curry and this place does a nice deep hot one. Not my favourite unfortunately, I like a nice sweet and sour but this one is a bit too much sour and not enough sweet for me. It's all down to personal taste I suppose. They do a nice foo Yung. That's what I tend to get lol.

First of all the lady who serves is incredibly rude. She got really quite nasty when I made a point that they didn’t have a takeaway menu! Her reply was a snapped “they cost too much”. So... the food, it was quite simply awful. As someone else has alluded to already, the duck was dry and inedible. The curry was salty and gloopy with lumps in it. The chicken content was very mean and the portion was 90% onion! A cheapskate trick. The fried noodles we had ordered were all burnt with shards of hard black burnt food ??? Off the wok? Not sure but it wasn’t eaten. I rang and complained to be met with a tirade of abuse from the ill tempered woman who slammed the phone down! Lastly, I reckon this Chinese takeaway is 10-20% more expensive than most. Overall it was an awful experience and I will not return.

Have tried most Chinese takeaways in hull and this is the best. It’s also the most expensive but I’d rather pay a bit more for good food than reformed chicken and bland food! Salt and pepper chicken is great and a bit spicy but Chinese food is spicy. You want bland order from a chippy instead. My go to Chinese takeaway. Just wish they delivered!

Been using them for years. Great service. I love the beef curry, fried rices, foo yung, chow mein. Chop suey has a bit to many beansprouts for my taste recently. I recommend.

This is the worst chinese takeaway in the area and even more so the woman that serves is just plain nasty...they dont even provide salt and vinegar!! You need salt and vinegar to drowned out the rancid taste of the food. .and god forbid dont park in front of the shop or you'll get a barage of abuse from said woman!!!

Singapore fried rice here is the best I've ever had and it's my favourite Chinese dish and I really like the curry it's hot not like most others! Only negative is no home delivery but heigh ho it's not the end of the world 🌎 😎👍

Been using this Chinese for as long as I can remember! The curry sauce is the best I've ever had from a Chinese got a great kick to it!! The roast pork used in the dishes is awesome!

This is possibly the worst Chinese in England, I am a big fan of chow mein, this had the worst one ever old gluppy noodles, save your money.

Ordered the king prawn curry it was absolutely delicious. The curry sauce is quite hot and thick just what an old fashioned curry should be like!

Thought we would give it a try when moved into the area. Ordered a noodle and a satay dish. Chicken didn't appear fresh, possibly reformed and full of hydrogenated fats. The dishes were so tasteless we ate only a few mouthfuls before throwing it in the bin. Will never return

Was told it was my fault it spilt. Lady serving very aggressive towards me when I said I hadn't done anything apart from put it in my car carefully. Cold believe her reaction!

Disgusting !!! Burnt rice .. Sloppy tasteless chicken in black bean and greasy over fried prawn toast . It was so horrible I put it straight in the bin !!! Do not go here !!!!!

I don't normally go here and will never go back !! The prawn toast tasted of old grease. The fried rice was black and burnt. The chicken in black bean was mainly a sloppy gravy which tasted bland and the Kung Poo chicken had gristly black pieces of old chicken. It was so bad I put it straight in the bin!!! Do not go here !

I absolutely love this Chinese it is without a doubt the best Chinese in the whole of hull not just hessle. I have tried other places and never enjoyed it as much as I have from here. If this was a restaurant I recon it would be busy all the time as to me other then Wings there are no decent Chinese restaurants around. The lady that takes the orders is happy and smiley and extremely friendly. When I was at collage on a Wednesday night and finished at 8 I was there all the time for my tea as was passing and couldn't resist. Definitely no 1 Chinese in Hessle and Hull!!! ☺

Consistent high quality take away. Good value portions. My wife and I have travelled a lot through Asia and this place provides my favourite Chinese food. Always come back to buy a meal here when I am in the area. Highly Recommended.

Apparently they do not do half portions?? and charged us over £11 for cartons of chips, egg fried rice and curry sauce which, when we opened them, were actually the size of the other locals' half and half offerings. What would have been polite would have been for the woman to explain that they do not do half portions on ordering and instead suggesting that we split a bag of chips and the rice between us both. You need asbestos mouths to swallow the curry sauce - it was absolutely vile. Disgusting for the price in fact. Very disappointing. We will not be returning. EVER. And would recommend others to stay away - there are other decent Chinese takeaways nearby, but we thought that we'd try this as the others were closed tonight.

Worst duck I have ever had. Salad off and in big chunks, sauce inedible and duck as dry as cardboard. Won't be going back.

Just had this for my birthday meal. Seriously disappointed. We had the salt and pepper king prawns, beef in black bean sauce, special fried rice and bbq ribs in sauce. The prawns came in a massive tub but when I opened it it was just filled with raw onion there were only 7 medium prawns which for the price was disgusting. The prawns were far to spicy, soggy and salty to the extent that no body could stand them. We only got four ribs in the whole tub. The rice was flavourless and expensive and the beef was just sauce and a tiny amount of meat. I would seriously advise on avoiding this place. Its a total rip and really gross.

Tried all the other Chinese takeaways always end up back here love it the food is excellent and very good value, always friendly service with a smile.
