I not received food, wife pay card for food in counter. Food received only soon and wife. Food probably good I not testing

I rarely go past Obento when I'm home for a visit. It's always a good sign when you have to join a long queue to give your order. Word to the wise, have a look at the menu before getting to the register as they run a tight and fast ship! Miso soup is a winner and of course, some takeaway before leaving. Highly recommended

Another Chinese owned dinner. Food is NOT authentic and the service is horrible. The environment is filthy. I’d avoid and def not ever going again. Waste of money.

Great place, i like wagamamma style noodle soup, this place do an excellent seafood noodle soup. Simple and unpretentious, the staff are helpful. I also sampled the pork fried noodles and salmon fried rice. All were good, reasonably priced, my drink of choice was canned coconut juice. Great place if you fancy a quick bite don't think this is a restaurant, its not, it's quick and easy in and out. Really nice staff as well, cantonese speaking mostly, the proprietor does speak Japanese though. This is a Japanese style Street food provider dont expect a restaurant experience, but if you're after good food and an alternative to KFC and McDonalds you've come to the right place. They have a spiral staircase leading upstairs no wheelchair access that i could see.

They got take-away here on our last night. The Bento boxes were good. It was a good amount of food for the price. We also got one roll of Spicy Salomon. They roll tasted little fishy. I would get then bento boxes again but don't waste your money on the sushi.

Was in the mood for sushi and this place doesn’t disappoint. Had the spicy tuna, clam and soft shell crab, all fresh and delicious. My brother had the katsu chicken bento which was tasty including the veggie dumplings with it. The pork chansu ramen, soooo delicious, mmmm that broth. Quick friendly service. Eat in or take out. Wish this place was closer to home

Fantastic place for lunch in the city centre, took my son and we loved every second and can’t wait to go back. I had the rainbow, crab and avocado, seaweed and wonton soup. The food was gorgeous, service great and fast

I’ve been here a few times recently to take way. It has an upstairs sit in but I’ve not yet been. What I find really good about this place is that the food is always tasty, it is usually made to your order, as you wait, and this time for me it was 3 choices: goma ae, 6 maki rolls (tofu) and a temaki hand roll filled with spicy salmon and vegetables (£10.90). The maki and temaki come with kikkoman soy sauce sachets, pickled ginger and a generous splodge of wasabi. The goma ae is always superb tasting with white miso and sesame oil enhancing the taste. The tofu is a small piece served cold but has been pre fried so it looks like and has a texture like pieces of omelette. The salmon in the hand-held roll is chunky and it too is delicious. The fact is that here you can get really tasty food and just along the street you can go to grim take out only Yangtze, for very poor food that sits in Bain Maries for certainly over an hour, yet prices are fairly comparable. This place has a very small ground floor area with a few steps down to go in; you couldn’t lie a phone box horizontal inside, length or width wise, so once you pay on order (cash only) the lady serving ushers you out to the street to wait with undue haste. The sort of shove of ‘there’s a fire’ so what’s keeping you. She seemed not to realise that having had to go to my bag for cash to suit their convenience I had to take some time to put my cash away again. Rally worth trying as long as you don’t mind a gentle nudge on to the street, which I found funny on a summer day. I’d imagine winter I might have a different view.

Staff was incredibly friendly and the food is absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this place if you're local or visiting! We came in for lunch and the food came out so quickly even though the restaurant was quite busy. 10/10.

I got a bento box one evening to takeaway and it was really not very good at all. The gyozas were ok, but the sushi was tasteless and the salad was basic and tired looking. I would pay the extra £6 or £7 to get much better quality food from Kamakura if sushi/bento boxes are your thing.

I have eaten here regularly over lockdown (takeout) and thought their food is excellent, in fact based on that alone I'd give it 5 stars. Recently while waiting on my order I noticed their hygiene rating which was stuck up above the door (in the window but very high up and not at eye level) has a score well below what I expect. It doesn't make me confident enough to eat here in future unless there is a significant change in this rating.

Only the dumplings were satisfactory. Sushis were disappointing. The welcome was rude as was the service for overpriced food. Would not recommend.

Got the katsu bento box...chicken was solid, tried a few different slices to check any of it edible. Spoke to member of staff who took me to the manager who said because I'd tried it he wouldn't do anything about it. Absolute waste of money. Rude manager. Never going back.

Pretty regular customer so know what to expect. Bought two chicken katsu bento boxes, tuna and salmon sashimi and a salmon /avocado roll. One chicken katsu was good but the other was extremely tough and the chicken appeared to still be pink in the middle. My partner tried to power through and eat what she could as she doesn't like to kick up a fuss but eventually was unable to continue as the food was making her feel sick. Alerted the manager, but he refused any refund or different meal as she had eaten small bits of the rest of the bento box. My partner handed it all back to them and had no further part of the meal, this was not an attempt to game the system and should have been taken as a genuine concern about the food served to us. She vomited upon arriving back home. The rest of the sushi and sashimi was of okay standard but appeared to have sinews throughout and generally felt tough to eat and not fresh. Will not ever return given the poor quality of food and service and advise you go elsewhere too.

Not very often we get home for a visit but this is our first port of call for an excellent lunch. Huge menu with lots of fresh and delicious items to chose from. Pleasant staff too. Recommended when your in the city and fancy a tasty lunch.

I just love this little cafe. Food is tasty and well presented. Staff very helpful. We had a feast of sushi, ramen, dim sum and seaweed… All washed down with lichee juice. Can’t wait to go back Worth a visit 5*

We requested for water to bring to our table but the sever rudely told us to fetch it downstairs for ourselves. We then asked if we can get a takeaway box but again they told us to get it ourselves where we had to transfer...

I got takeaway sushi here while visiting Belfast. The menu was good, the staff were friendly, the food was tasty and the prices were reasonable.

Disappointing- had two Bento boxes and both were of poor quality. The Salmon didn’t seem fresh and smelled off! The veg was old and brown. Spring rolls were okay though. Wouldn’t go back.

"Salad" in a bento box you expect seawood. But no, horrible old iceberg lettuce with sweetcorn and SALAD CREAM! In a bento box! The rest of it is utterly tasteless.

Hay dos escalones empinados en el restaurante, muy estrechos y todos los asientos están en el piso de arriba. Hay dos mesas afuera, pero seamos honestos, eso solo será cómodo, tal vez 30 días al año. ¡Es demasiado húmedo o demasiado frío!

Visitamos aquí regularmente, bien cada vez que mi hija y yo estamos en Belfast. A ella le encanta venir aquí para el sushi vegetariano. Personalmente me encantan sus sopas de fideos. La comida es fresca y rápida. Si no ha visitado, debería ser una joya escondida en el centro de Belfast.

Estando solo en Belfast por una noche, queríamos una cena rápida para seguir corriendo por la ciudad. Como no habíamos tenido sushi durante todo el viaje, ya era hora de encontrar un buen lugar. Obento se encuentra cerca de la principal zona comercial y del centro comercial en una calle principal. Encontramos este lugar en Yelp, así que nos sorprendió encontrar un espacio tan pequeño cuando vimos fotos de personas sentadas en mesas. Cuando entras, pides tu comida en el mostrador y tomas asiento en el piso superior, donde te servirán la comida. Pedí el rollo de teriyaki de California roll y ternera. Mi marido recibió un pedido de fideos y nos dirigimos al piso de arriba con una lata de coca cola. El sushi era muy fresco y muy bien envuelto. No se vino abajo cuando lo recogí. Mi marido realmente le gustaban sus fideos y se los comió hasta la última gota. La comida salió rápido y caliente y el personal fue muy agradable. Tuve que quitarle una estrella porque cuando entraste por primera vez, el lugar parecía un poco sucio y gastado. Una vez arriba, las mesas y el comedor estaban muy limpios. Probablemente muy bueno para sushi fresco para llevar. No en la tienda de comestibles prefabricada.

Yo estaba aquí con mi padre y su prometida hace unos años y que no era mi taza de té. Me dieron algo de fideos, pero no el mismo sabor como fideos normales también. Mi padre y su novia dieron un cuadro de sushi y conseguimos un bol pequeño de sopa de antemano. Mi padre me dejaron probar la sopa y era demasiado dulce para mí. Realmente necesitas como comida japonesa para disfrutar realmente de la experiencia aquí. Parece ser más popular entre los jóvenes. Recomendaría este lugar a cualquiera que está en este tipo de comida!

Después de vivir en Australia que nos acostumbramos a tener sushi en cada centro comercial. Vivir en la República Checa ahora es mucho más difícil de conseguir. Mientras visitan Belfast nos encontramos con este pequeña tienda con sushi y más. El personal fue muy amable y la comida era deliciosa.

Her er det flott kunde service og de serverer meget god sushi. Egner seg måde for venner og familie. Her vil alle finne noe de liker. De er også raske oå serveringen og er veldig behjelpelig dersom du skulle lure på noe.

The shop should not be underestimated just because it is an express one. The bento boxes are filled with delicious food. The noodles are also very nice so just give it a try. We came back here for 3 times!!

Soy un habitual en sus Obento sushi bueno y rápido servicio. Aunque el lugar es pequeño, la zona de arriba es limpio y acogedor. La comida es barata pero de buena calidad, especialmente su bento tempura sushi bento box de seguridad y que ambos son populares. Prueba sus bebidas suaves como el lychee asiática o mango. Tuve estas en un día muy caliente (24 C en junio) y eran más refrescante que una botella de coca cola. Hospitalidad personal puede caerse a veces un poco corto, pero esto varía por visita. Una vez más se amplía a un Obento restaurante de tamaño, por lo tanto ya no convertirse en un "Express", que sin duda sería por encima de la altura de Sakura en Botanic Avenue.

Achamos por acaso este restaurante no centro de Belfast. Tem uma área para sentar no mezanino. Ótimas promoções e pratos...

Llevé a mi familia a Obento para comer tarde y me quedé impresionado por el servicio rápido y amable. Las cajas Bento y sopas de fideos que elegimos tenía un sabor realmente auténtico y las porciones eran de un buen tamaño. He vivido en Japón durante más de un año y muy buena relación calidad-precio en sitios como este, que no sólo de sushi, o 'fusión'. La única habitación de mejora que puedo dar es que el arroz podría ser una categoría diferente, más apropiado para la comida japonesa, sin embargo, era delicioso como todo lo demás. Altamente recomendado.

I used to get takeaways regularly from Obento when I lived in Belfast. Its a good Japanese food joint, however the sauces they provide, like the soya or the Wasabi, dont have that kick in them. I also tried their ramen, but that was also so-so.

I had the bento box to go. Came with miso, salad, gyoza and nigiri. The gyoza, was put onto of the salad as got super soggy and had to throw away the one on the bottom. Salad dressing was creamy! Not usual light dressing common at Japanese restaurants. Nigiri and miso were ok, but not enough to make me go back.

I had a delicious sumptuous salmon sashimi as a snack and it was good!! A wee gem of a place and certainly worth finding. Great value and service

Went for dinner with my friend had green dragon, red dragon, California rolls, deep fried shrimp (6pcs each) and tuna nigiri (2pcs) paid 32£ with drinks. The food was amazing! The only con I can find it's the size of the restaurant, a bit to small and warm.

It's a nice place where to eat. A bit small, nothing fancy, but the food is good.I was not particularly impressed overall, and the wifi didn't work. If you like sushi and other Japanese food can be a nice place where to go for a quick meal, the prices are on the "average" side, not cheap but not expensive either.

A small restaurant, with many tipical japanese plates, I strongly suggest the red dragon sushi and the mochi as a dessert! Fresh and vedy good, the only cons are the small unisex toilet and the wifi code not working. Prices are normal, 6 sushi piece (not sashimi) cost around 7 quids. Quick service.

Such a handy spot for lunch and always yum. Compliments to the chef for the delicious beef in noodle soup. Great fresh fish too. Reasonable price for downtown location. Will def return.

Centrally located on Royal Avenue and open at 11.30 am for a lazy Sunday brunch, Obento Japanese Express provides consistent quality, outstanding value and surprisingly snappy service. Although there are other restaurants in Belfast that serve more authentic Japanese fare, this tiny place offers reasonably priced, Japanese inspired meals prepared by Chinese and Malaysian chefs.The pork katsu - a Japanese breaded pork chop- was drizzled with something that tasted suspiciously like mayonnaise. It was served Obento style, in a lacquer box that contained a small bowl of miso soup, steamed white rice, a fried spring roll, two pieces of sushi, and a handful of iceberg lettuce, grated carrots, and sweet corn doused with English salad cream. Traditional Japanese katsu and garnish it isn't- but at 6.50 GBP it really hits the spot. The only room for improvement would be disabled access to the upper level dining area. Take away is the only option for diners with reduced mobility who can't climb stairs.

I visited Obento Japanese Express today, Sunday 29 May 2016 for a quick lunch. It's a tiny spot with limited seating upstairs. I ordered the Tofu Bento Box and was not impressed. The tofu was jellylike and bland with a slimy batter. Mushy sticky rice, a couple of tasteless vegetable Spring rolls and a handful of bland salad topped with salad cream completed the box. Even lashings of soy and sweet chilli sauce didn't help much. Sadly it really wasn't good and I will not return. Extremely disappointing poor quality food and definitely not worth the £7.50 I paid.

Called in after work for a quick bite. I had never been before (although have had sushi and dumplings elsewhere). The girl serving was very nice and helpful, I decided on a Teriyaki Chicken box at £7.50. A bit expensive for a take away but with this I got Miso Soup, a small salad, Chicken and Rice, a small spring role, dumpling and some sort of sushi roll that was fried. I was very disappointed in the flavour and quality, all but the salad and spring roll were palatable. The Miso Soup tasted of seaweed and had spring onion in it. The Chicken had the skin on and was more fat than anything, resembling the rear end of the meat. There was no flavour to this at all. What a shame because had this been good it would have become a lunch time feature in our office.

I had a quick lunch there and the place is decent - clean, good food, mix of cold and hot dishes to choose from, comfy seating. The cuisine isn't exactly Japanese - I would describe it "pan-Asian" with deep bow (pun intended) to Chinese style dishes, both flavour- and looks-wise. Nothing too bad, though but Japanese it isn't. Or at least my dish wasn't. I need to go back to try more - the sushi looked pretty OK so there is more to be tried and tested there.

Obento offers a wide variety of Japanese food. It's very good value for money and the portions are really big. The staff are very friendly and serve the food to your table upstairs.

When working in Belfast I would go and have my lunch there quite often. Always greeted with a smile even on an extremely busy day! All the bento boxes are lovely. The sushi and sashimi is fresh. I will say you do get what you pay for, the food is not as expensive as other Japanese places but still really good. The catsu dishes are lovely and the fried eel is just mouth watering! You can always expect the place to busy during lunch period but you can always take away your order which is prepared incredibly fast!One of the best places in Belfast for a low-ish budget lunch!

I love Obento and have gotten sushi to go and eaten in. The salmon and avocado roll is a particular favourite of mine. Spending over a tenner even gave us a choice of either a free plate of salmon sashimi or teriyaki chicken skewers. I will definitely be back soon.

Was hungry and made the effort to go here.Ordered chicken curry bento box at £7.50. A small portion of miso soup comes with it. Bento boxes look good and big. But as the dishes are very shallow they decieve. Soup was average. Small salad was nice touch. Two small spring rolls with a little chilli sauce again not that tasty. Boiled rice or. Chicken curry was a piece of sliced breaded chicken in a poor enough plain curry sauce. Have eaten Japanese curry before which was much better and more ingredients. Not sure breaded chicken is correct as that's really katsu. I left still very hungry. Many Chinese offer 3 course meal deals for same or less. So I won't rush back.

Any chance I get this is the first place I go to.. Love the selection. Its up there for the new York experience. When I asked where they part of the Abento in New York - I was told that Abento means the box that the Sushi comes in. Learn something new everyday.

Delicious food. Always eat here when in Belfast. Usually end up purchasing something for later aswell ... Soft shell crab and avacado special rolls are to die for and the tempura prawns are yummy. My kids and hubby love it too. Reasonably priced fresh and delicious food. Highly recommend.

I’ve never been a fan of seafood so generally avoid Japanese food. My better half convinced me to give Obento a go as ‘training’ for an upcoming visit to Tokyo.The first few times I generally stuck to meat dishes in my Bento – pork katsu (flattened crumbed pork, a bit like a schnitzel, with a delicious creamy mayonnaise type sauce), served on rice with salad and a couple of tasty morsels (spring roll, dumpling, tempura salmon sushi) which also comes with a side of miso soup. Miso soup really is the perfect hangover cure; you feel so virtuous eating it you can choose to ignore the fact you’ve just scoffed a giant piece of fried pork and pretend you’re eating healthily :)The more I’ve been, the more adventurous I’ve become. So yesterday I ordered a chicken teriyaki bento but also selected a sushi box – California rolls, maki and sea clam and prawn on rice. As a bonus, for spending over £10, we were given some salmon sashimi. I managed to eat it all and actually enjoyed it! So thank you Obento for helping me to overcome my fishy fears.Some of the more unusual sushi pieces look fantastic, I’m going to work my way through the menu. I’m also planning a sit-in visit to sample their ramen. Service is always efficient and very friendly and it’s open 7 days a week and situated on the High Street so a good location to drop in on a lunch break. Would highly recommend this place.

Obento is a small restaurant, a little difficult to find. I have tried all the food choices in their menu. DELICIOUS. It is good for takeaways, but doesn't have an ambience for a family eat out.

I ordered a pork katsu bento box and got a decent amount of food for my money, it tasted very nice so I would happily come here again. They seem to be quite popular, plenty of people inside.

I have visited Obento on a number of ocassions for lunch and not once have I been let down. I usually get the sliced beef or Chicken Teriyaki with Udon noodles and its quite the feed. Service is good and the food is often quick. Ideal spot for lunch.

I'm a big lover love Japanese food and culture and I've only ever been here once, but my word I love it!! If you order a "bento box" you get a serious feed for a small amount of money. It comes in what looks like a deep sectioned tray/plate with alot of food in it, the dish you chose, salad, spring roll and a won-ton, rice, dipping sauce and miso soup. Food is very tasty and the service is ok, will defiantly be back!

Food seems okay when you're eating it. But it is far too salty and leaves an unpleasant aftertaste in the mouth.What was truly disgusting was the toilet was gross and had no soap. And what made it worse was seeing one of the kitchen staff go to the toilet and not wash their hands. Obviously that was a great sight after I had eaten.

I have been here on an number of occasions as I work in town it is the place I would go on my lunch. I have always enjoyed the food and service was always pleasant. HOWEVER!! What happens this afternoon is hard to believe and even writing this I'm in shock. I took my 15 year old brother into town today as he is going on holiday after shopping all morning I took him for lunch. We enjoyed our meal and left the restaurant. After around 1hour we realised we had left our bags in the restaurant. I tried to ring with no answer so I told my brother to run ahead to see if they were in obento. He came back to me and said that the waitress said that there was no bags left and the bags he could see where hers. So I sent him to the other shops and I decided to see if obento had CCTV ,when I asked if they had I was told it doesn't work . I asked could I have a look around and he said yes I spotted the bags my brother had seen and asked could I see them . The man called the waitress as 'they were hers' I had a feeling they were mine so as she came in from out side I looked in the bags and seen that they where MINE !! I couldn't believe it . I excepted the girl to be mortified but she stood looked me in the face and protested that they were hers. I was I'm shock I pulled out my receipts having to prove that they were mine. Over £250 worth of stuff and she just shrugged. I walked out of the shop in complete shock and discuss and I will be back down tomorrow to see if that girl still has a job other wise I will be ringing the police. I'm in total disbelieve

I love sushi. Vegetarian sushi. And maki. Wandered in one afternoon for a takeaway and came out with maki and tofu pockets and all the rest. Lovely staff. I was very happy after that.

I came across this place on a shopping trip to Belfast with my son and nephew. We all love Japanese food so it was a great find.The food was great, a fabulous selection of both sushi and hot dishes. We had some of the hot food and we certainly were not disappointed. Certainly good value for money for what you get. The service was great and the boys who are learning Mandarin and Japanese had fun practising their language skills.We will definitely be back.

I am Japanese but live in England and I visited with my friend who is also Japanese. We were visiting Northern Ireland on holiday and came across this restaurant by chance. The food is very authentic and very tasty and good value. It was one of the best Japanese food I have tasted in the UK, value for money. The owner is a very nice guy as well. It was so good we went 3 days in a row!

Good to see a Sushi bar right in the heart of Belfast - long overdue. Good also to see a short menu - better to do a few dishes well than lots badly. The bad news is that the food isn't great. I think most of the contents of my Bento Box had been hanging around on a hot plate for too long. One of the reasons why I like Japanese food is that it can be healthy - this menu seems to cater more for the deep fried Belfast palate. Maybe I hit it on a bad day - probably worth visiting to make up your own mind. Sayonara! T

I visit here quite often. Great sushi to go or to sit in and their hot food is all great too.ive been to japan and this is the most authentic sushi and bento I have had in belfast.

If you are the sushi lover, then definitely you have to go here. Over the week, the bar is open half past 8 pm. The quality is good and the personnel is very friendly.

Obento is a great place to get food with the friendly atmosphere and at most times the seating area being in a quiet lull, having been here multiple times since it opened I have tried quite a few things ranging from their speedy meals for £4.50 which you can sit in and eat or takeaway, to their bento boxes! There is a variety of combinations for both of these, not to mention the varieties of sushi that are prepared fresh downstairs. They have a range of ready made up boxes of sushi in a fridge as you walk in the door and at time mochi too. A vast variety of different teas and juices is also available. Service is always quick and friendly and makes it a pleasure to go into the store.
