Number 29 Bar & Restaurant in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

Last Saturday, we visited for a table for two. From the outset, the restaurant's decor was unusual – perhaps I’m not trendy enough to fully appreciate a mural of Bob Marley smoking a spliff. However, the staff were welcoming and attentive, seating us promptly and taking our drinks order soon after. I ordered sparkling water, but they initially served still; it was quickly corrected. The water came in a house-branded bottle with a grolsh top, I would have preferred a recognisable brand. For starters, we had pork and burrata. The burrata was served with chargrilled peaches, a dish I’ve had at The White Horse in Brancaster, where it was superb. However, this version was underwhelming – the peaches were thinly sliced, more like a garnish than a key part of the dish. There was a crumb under the burrata, but it didn’t offer much-needed contrast to the texture. It wasn’t bad, but “mediocre” is the best way to describe it. The mains were no different. My fish was cooked well, but the dish lacked real flavor. We also ordered triple-cooked chips, which tasted like they had been pre-cooked the day before and then fried – definitely not the crispy, golden delight we had hoped for. When the server asked how our food was, we answered "okay," because that’s exactly how it was – just okay. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much room for improvement at this point. Dessert was similarly disappointing. I opted for the crème brûlée, which is usually a favorite of mine. But instead of the comforting contrast between silky custard and a crisp sugar crust, I was served a rectangular slab that was far too gelatinous, with the thinnest layer of caramelized sugar. It wasn’t an improvement on the classic version. Worse, both dessert plates were stone cold, suggesting the desserts were pre-made and chilled. I was reticent about whether to take this as a learning experience and move on or write a review. Having looked at other reviews, I noticed the owner seems very unhappy whenever anyone dares to criticise his establishment. Hopefully, he can take this feedback onboard and use it in a positive way to improve the dining experience. Ultimately, everything felt prepared ahead of time and reheated as needed, leaving the food lacking freshness. The price didn’t reflect the quality of what was served, and I left thoroughly disappointed. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning anytime soon.

We have been coming to No 29 since it opened and tonight was as good as ever. Food is always beautifully cooked, wine prices are very reasonable and the staff are polite, friendly and really engage with you. I honestly find some of the negative reviews difficult to take seriously.

I have to say really disappointing meal- we had the tempura prawns to start which were covered in chili sauce and so really soggy. We then had the roast 2 x children’s which did not include crackling for children?! We were bought some crackling for them which was burnt and inedible. There was so much gravy it looked more like soup. My husband and I had the roast as well, I had the pork belly which was burnt and tough and all piled up with very little seasonal greens. Everything was soggy and I had ordered my gravy on the side. Potatoes had been way over chilled and so were sweet and soggy. We were seated upstairs and the only people up there so absolutely no atmosphere. It’s a shame as we went back as had a great meal there previously. We didn’t bother with desert.

We have had an absolutely exceptional meal this evening ( Porterhouse Steak), the staff were wonderful, especially Emma, who went above and beyond to ensure all our needs were catered for. We will definitely be back. Great experience, thank you

Been here before and it didn't disappoint this time. The food is absolutely fabulous, great Sunday lunch. Everything tasty and well presented. Strange booking experience though, have to ring up to book, no booking at the place. Read the terms and conditions if thinking of not turning up, going to cost more than a meal !

We had this restaurant recommended by a friend who owns a property nearby. It looks lovely from the outside, but the inside blew us away! Beautifully decorated with an open kitchen showing off the unique style of cooking and the talent of what appeared to be a youthful, dedicated team. Our waitress was fabulous and had worked there for several years. She was friendly, attentive and very helpful. I had a cocktail which was generous and delicious. We had a starter and main course each, and the food was perfect …. Top quality and many different flavours and interesting combinations. We looked out onto the courtyard which is lovely. Good value for the quantity and quality we received. Next time we hope to stay there as well as eat!

Excellent for a romantic couples dinner, our usual choice for an anniversary or date night. Lovely setting, atmospheric and romantic with lights and beautiful decor. The food is very good, a little on the pricey side but good quality. Service is excellent, very attentive staff.

We visited Burnham Market whilst on Holiday in Hunstanton. As we arrived about 12:45 we were keen to find somewhere for lunch and quickly found Twenty9. The menu outside looked good so we went in and were quickly and politely directed to the lovely courtyard at the rear. We were served quickly and enjoyed our food, a salad for my wife and a crab sandwich for myself, which were ideal for a hot summers day. The Eton Mess with tarragon ice cream finished it off nicely. Definitely recommended. Btw we’re no longer dog owners, but if you are there is a special dog’s menu.

The title of the review should explain a lot, we were looking forward to eating there as we had previously had a really good time there. We know that the restaurant gets very busy so we booked three separate meals at least a few weeks prior to arriving in Burnham Market. The first was the Saturday we arrived in Burnham Market we booked a table for two, the second was for the Sunday night a table for four and finally the last night of our break on the Friday night for two. The first time we were seated in what was the most awful table, very near the open kitchen very hot! We asked to be moved and Chloe did sort out a table in a better location. She explained that if possible we should have asked for a particular table but how one does that I have no idea. Chloe did arrange for the other two nights we had booked for us to be seated on a table of our choice. The previous time we eat here we had a lovely table upstairs but that wasnt possible at all, for all of the bookings! The food was acceptable nothing that really shone out but the time it took to order and get the food was not acceptable. The worst night was the Friday. We arrived at 19.30 we were asked what we wanted to drink at 20.00 our order was taken at 20.25 and the main came at 20.50 dessert at 21.20 and the bill at 21.31. The restaurant was very noisy and overall as I stated earlier we were very dissapointed. It wasnt the worst place we eat in Burnham Market but......

Love it here! great for drinks - out front with a view of the green or in the beer garden at the back with a great vibe. Service v. good. Drinks v. cold - what more do you need!

What a fabulous restaurant we both loved it Adi our host was brilliant! So friendly, chatty and very attentive. The food was delicious we had hallomi and squid to start and moussaka for main with a Greek salad which was amazing. It’s a BYO so just fizzies for us, £30 each with a tip which I didn’t think was expensive at all. I will definitely go again

We stayed here for two nights in the new Sinatra room . Everything is brand new and very stylish . The restaurant and bar are excellent. The service was fantastic- we took our dog ( they are really well catered for ) and all the staff were superb. Will definitely return

This was our second visit and just as good as our first one. I will keep it short. Friendly and efficient staff. Good menu choice. Wonderful food served on a hot plate ( most restaurants serve food on cold plates, why ??? ). Would definitely recommend, we will be back when we return to Norfolk.

We enjoyed a nice meal here, having stayed here during Covid. Nice cocktails in bar and then a very good meal. One of our party commented on the hard beetroot sand my monkfish was u see seasoned. Lots of positive comments about the chicken and the desserts. The new chef came around for feedback which was impressive. Nice wine list and good service. Get the beetroot and seasoning sorted and it’s 5 star!

Popped in for a pint and was impressed with the decor etc. However, we were in our scruffs as had been walking, so felt under dressed compare to some of the Chelsea on sea jet set 🤔. Would go back but in smarter attire 😱

Great location in the centre of Burnham Market in a period property. Nice enough ambiance, with an impressive open kitchen with wood fires. Good food but unfortunately, for us, very poor service. I suspect this may just be down to our waitress on the night who was not just incompetent but also extremely rude. The manageress appeared unsurprised and took a couple of drinks off the bill so perhaps this is a problem that the management are aware of and will hopefully deal with. We ate at The Hoste Arms a couple of doors down the previous night and whilst the food wasn’t quite as good, the service was impeccable which lead to a much more convivial evening. Socius, a bit further down the road offer a masterclass in how to run a restaurant. As a footnote, having looked at a number of previous reviews, the owner is obviously not keen on constructive feedback. He likes to insult the reviewer in the knowledge that on this platform he gets the last word. And he’s not very good with words. I wouldn’t ordinarily stoop to this level but given the owner’s disgraceful response to an articulate, constructive review from a lady called Victoria in September - Tim, we say “we were”, not “we was”.

4 of us stayed over for my husbands 60th birthday. A fabulous experience and definitely a return visit is in order. We arrived midday, so our bags had to be stored until 4, which wasn’t a problem as we went straight into the bar and had a light lunch. The food was delicious and a good portion with a good choice of beers and spirits to wash it down. The rooms were fabulous! We have stayed in the area before but this place is far superior. We stayed in the ‘Marley!’ Beautifully clean and airy. Every amenity you can think of and with a cocktail to greet you or while you are reclining in the wonderful rolltop bath. The bed was so big and comfy (please let me know the make?). I had the best nights sleeping in years. There’s a beautiful courtyard for those warmer evenings and even a doggie spa, if the pooch comes along. The breakfast was included. A nice airy space and lovely staff, especially the gentleman that served us. The portions were very good and very tasty too. This is a cracking hotel that offers everything for a most comfortable stay. Thank you

I cannot tell you how wonderful this place is. We were looking for a place to stay in Norfolk just for one night and wanted something where we could just chill and have a lovely meal and if we were lucky, maybe have something special. And wow, well does No Twenty9 deliver. From the moment you walk in with the warm and just lovely welcome, to the utterly stunning room (we stayed in Newman, it's as astounding as it looks on the pics) and the whole vibe of the place, it's just perfect. We arrived at around 4pm on a Friday, and managed to find a free parking place in the market no problem (watch out for the ones that are a 45 min stay) and walked a few hundred yards to check in. The inside is just cosy luxury, and all of the team are just so completely lovely. We were shown to our room, before heading back to have a drink in the outside garden area (just about enough sun to do that!). We then went for dinner, which again was just amazing. I'd post pictures of food but I ate my meal so quickly - it was stunning and the chef and team are clearly a talent. We slept so well (the little free drinks and chocolates in your room are a brilliant touch) - I particularly liked that I could have an open patio door for the breeze, and we then ate an equally wonderful breakfast. Honestly, I'd like to move in and live here forever. Just heartily recommended - go, you will not regret it. (also the village is SO pretty and there's places to explore but we didn't have time)

I don’t very often write reviews but after visiting No. twenty9 again, this time for a Family Meal, I thought I needed to buck the trend. We Booked a table for the of ten of us for Easter Sunday, of which you could be excused to expect, because it being a very busy day in the nations diary, standards could drop slightly,, but no!! not here,,, service was fantastic as always, Dan was great and couldn't do enough for us all. The food, from the delicious starters, main and through to desert was as you would expect, excellent,, and you'll be hard pushed to find a better Sunday roast anywhere,,,not to mention the varied wine list, where we found a lovely bottle of Barbera, one of our favourites, something thats really unusual to find in a UK wine list. Finished off with a few drinks in the lovely bar and snug area, so all in all would highly recommend No.Twenty9, lovely staff, great food and superb settings. Thanks No. twenty 9,, looking forward to our next visit, hopefully in the summer. Sam F.

Enjoyed an extremely relaxing afternoon sitting out front at No Twenty9 sipping a couple of ice cold beers - the location is great and the benches out front are v comfy and are ideal for a view of the green and a bit of people watching. Service was great and I'll be back when we next visit Burnham H this coming week

All I can say is wow. From the moment we walked through the door the service and experience was just phenomenal. This is hands down the best place we have ever stayed ! A true gem and beautiful place We stayed in the Newman and it was just unreal, the decor, bath and all the little extras and comforts. We then had the chefs table and taster menu and just wow !! The food was perfect and the chef talked us through each meal. We left so happy and just in ore. The breakfast was also just as incredible. We will 100% be back. I did not want to leave. If anyone is considering going here then do it. You will not regret it. Most beautiful place with the most beautiful food. Thank you so much. Lauren and Luke X

Ordered well done steak - served as medium and also specified no mushroom as daughter allergic and came with them- when asked for the correct steak went back on the grill to be cooked furthermore thought bite taken out of it. When asked for it to be removed from the bill of a total of £227 for 3 of us was asked to leave the restaurant after many visits over the years. Very disappointed.

I live in Essex but make a special effort to come here each season - it’s that good! The team and mangers clearly all care so much, attention to detail is everywhere and it’s consistently exceptional. There are very few places that can still say that after Covid and the existential crisis that the hospitality industry is going through, but this oasis is consistently marvellous, both in the hotel and the restaurant. The meals always offer excellent value for money and the service is always on point. We were there last week to celebrate our best friends birthday and Dan did an outstanding job of being effortlessly and invisibly all over everything, to ensure she had the best time. We were too full for desserts after wonderful recommendations for starters and mains, and he still brought her a birthday plate with a little piece of rye dessert she had been contemplating. Thank you Dan, for how you looked after her. It’s the attention to detail and genuine care that sets this place apart. Thoroughly recommend at any time of year! Fires and candles are wonderful in the winter if that is your thing; or there is the most fabulous garden and outside kitchens in the summer for long lazy afternoons in the sun, which never fail to be anything other than perfect! Great service, atmosphere and food. Highly recommended. Our son wanted to swap out certain menu items and the service team happily took this to the chef and made it happen, hassle free. Even the simple salad option was creatively made with really fresh ingredients.

This was great for a romantic meal. We sat at the chefs table which gave a real insight into the dedication of the chefs it was amazing to watch and not surprisingly the food was incredible. Already booked again

We booked a table on a Friday night, it was very busy but this didn’t seem to be an issue. My wife and I thought the food was superb, the scallop starter was magnificent. There was also a band playing in the bar later in the evening, who were okay, that helped to make it a memorable night. My one criticism would be the drink prices, I think the wine particularly was expensive, but good wine all the same. The service was excellent, staffing levels about right and clearly well organised. The place was spotlessly clean, which is a testament to how well it’s run. We will return and I’d have no hesitation in recommending to anyone.

We have been coming to this relaxed, yet smart, bar & restaurant for a few years & love how it continues to impress. Tonight we enjoyed one of their excellent cocktails, served with a new delightful twist. Dinner was a tasty affair, served overlooking their fascinating & slick open kitchen. Their team are always friendly & professional & we can’t wait to go back.

Have been here many times and every time we stay at Burnham Market. Service excellent, food was fantastic and atmosphere wonderful. Very classy and relaxed. Not cheap, but you pay for what you get and you get top notch. Not tried the rooms yet, but have heard from friends that they are fantastic also, will need to try at some point. Many thanks for the great service, also dog friendly, so great for us with the new puppy.

Visited the restaurant while staying locally. The service, food and wine were all excellent. We loved the decor of the room and really enjoyed looking at the photos spotting the movie stars! The bar area was busy but comfortable to sit there and service good. Unusually a service charge was not included in the bill and it was left to guests to decide about a gratuity. We would love to return.

An upmarket, stylish and very friendly hotel and restaurant. We stayed for one night with another couple to ride our horses on Holkham beach. This was our fourth visit and we just love everything about it. The restaurant cooking over the open wood fires is a real treat. The rooms are so amazingly individual - we love it.

We visited Twenty 9 to celebrate my birthday, the ambiance, service and food was excellent, the host went out of his way to make the day special with a glass go Prosecco and sweet treats for each of us (on the house) we will defiantly be returning soon.

Traditionally speaking, dinner precede's a trip to the theatre but in the case of Twenty9's establishment this routine need not apply. Here the experiences are delightfully mingled into one. On our arrival we engaged immediately with a Negroni whilst witnessing from our "chefs table" vantage point ( Thanks Tim!) the three main protagonist chefs feverishly stoking up the fiery furnaces. Appropriately reminiscent of life many years ago in the Sheffield steel works! For the uninitiated, non of the cooking in Twenty9 is done with Gas. All hot dishes are prepared using chestnut log fired "flambadou's"....to great effect. The pageant and atmosphere of the whole thing served to heighten our appetite prompting us to plead for the menu!! With due diligence we pondered over the starters of Moules Mariniere and Scallops & pork belly followed by Sea Bass and Ribeye...reassuringly accompanied by Beef Dripping chips. That's it!! We were now an integral part of the production!! Two of the characters in the drama, bit part players yet a focus for these gladiatorial firefighters. Check on!! Bathed in amber light the activity of the brigade welled up into an elite drilled, ultra efficient operation with almost choreographed moves, flipping steaks and charring fingers...indeed one couldn't help but muse that it would be a logical next step for them to break out in baritone chorus...maybe an aria from Rigoletto or Turandot. Perfect. I would have chinked glasses and sung along! In no time the starters appeared on the pass in front of us, like an offering from the Gods. The moules were big fat soft sweet and delicious mopped dry with rosemary focaccia. Scallops & pork belly were juicy and ideal plate mates. By this time the check rail was getting some hammer, with dialogue ringing out... barely audible front of house with the roar of the fires and the sizzling Porterhouses! We sat back quaffing Malbec in our "Covent Garden box" gazing down on the theatricals. Intermezzo over we clocked our mains! Shimmering in the rising heat. Love at first sight! The Ribeye was beautifully cooked and smelled divine. The Sea Bass was succulent and had the most impressive accompaniments in the form of caramelised pear and chervil sponge. What a dish!! Replete we sat back and at the onset of the Desert phase watched the fires slowly burn out...the cheese board was the final piece of the jigsaw....when a glass of Amaro would have been nice. For this New Year...dinner and theatre experienced simultaneously is the new black! Be there or be square. Will be back Twenty9. Curtain call (three times). Applause. Carriages.

We had an excellent NY Eve lunch at Twenty9 . Food and Service were both 1st class. We were a party of 10 and we were allocated one of the private side rooms which made the occasion extra special. Thank you very much. Simon Miller

Fantastic food, great atmosphere and fabulous service….. only one thing that let the team down was the bar closed early to prepare for NYE evening, which I totally understand!! But it would have been nice to have been told beforehand! Not only could we not have a last drink, but so many people arrived to be turned away, a police notice in the bar or outside would have been great! Would still recommend and return.

Friendly staff; welcoming ambience; good menu selection; ultra fresh oysters (superb) and excellent mains (lamb rump & sea trout). Not cheap and very busy, but great service and food nevertheless. Essential to book.

I am probably slightly biased as I have given a 5 star review before for this venue. However over time things can change with changes of staff, chefs etc and the restaurant you recommended to friends based on your last experience can sometimes go wrong...

Fabulous! Great food, brilliant service. Aneta (hopefully I’ve spelt it right) was very attentive. Oysters, scallops and we shared the porterhouse. All food was well cooked and great quality. We will be back!

Based on our experience I would not recommend. I will not go into details as the owner seems to aggressively attack anyone who posts adverse opinions of his restaurant.
