Nostrano Restaurant in Waltham Forest

We both really enjoyed the food here and the service was excellent! I had the spaghetti marinara and it was delicious! Will definitely recommend and go back again.

We had the most fabulous time at this restaurant. The food was excellent, certainly didn’t skimp on the portion size. Ambiance was great as was the service. The only thing that let it down (and why we gave it a 4 out of 5) was the waiter and one of the waitress chewing gum! Not great to see as she took our order, delivered our drinks and then the meal. Apart from that it was a great night.

Visited with friends on Saturday night. When we arrived, it was empty, but by the time we left, it was packed. My starter was good chopped tomatoes on bruchetta. My main course wasn't. I had the gnocchi alla Calabrese. I chose this as I really like gnocchi. Unfortunately, the gnocchi wasn't cooked long enough and was hard and U didn't like the sauce. I didn't complain as we were in a hurry. My friends food was good. The staff were good

I have been here twice in the last 2 months and both times I have really enjoyed the food and service and will definitely go back. The Sunday roast on the specials last weekend was so good.

We have been loyal and regular customers of this business for some years. Aside from being a venue for several family events and to host overseas visitors, we have sought out its takeaway business on a weekly basis for an age. We remained loyal even when there was an occasional dip in quality (change of chef? short of ingredients?) This week, as usual, we called to place our regular order ahead of a weekly group Zoom meeting only to be told they were too busy to take orders and to try later. This we did but the situation remained unchanged. Maybe they have staffing problems. Maybe takeaways don't earn them enough (although we have always made a point of booking directly and collected so the business isn't loosing a chunk of money to external delivery companies). Given short shrift doesn't sit well with loyal customers. We have another family gathering this week. Needless to say, we've booked somewhere else.

Just had a meal with friends and couldn't fault our meal. There were 7 of us and all had a wonderful and tasty dinner. We will definitely be returning.

Fantastic food, perfectly cooked. Great service too. Would highly recommend and will definitely be eating there again.

We have been for 3 Sunday’s on the turn. Top quality food and service. Nothing is too much trouble and the food always freshly cooked and served with a smile.

I ordered cod. It took TEN MINUTES to tell me there was NO cod so He recommended the seabass. I ordered the seabass. 5 MINUTES LATER he tells me NO SEABASS EITHER. The manager DIDN'T bother to come over to apologise. I had to call her over. She REFUSED TO GIVE my partner A FREE DRINK for the crap service and delay. she ARGUED and shouted that it was OUR FAULT that they ran out of 2 dishes. Disgusting way to be treated by the incompetent "manager". She said SHE'S HAPPY IF NEVER VISIT HER RESTAURANT AGAIN. What a BITCHY & UNPROFESSIONAL thing to say. She spoilt our evening & infuriated us with her lies. SHE made us wait so long, we were the LAST ONES to leave. I HAD TO TELL her to P1SS OFF to shut her her big mouth up . WHAT A DISGUSTING WAY TO BE TREATED. She SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HERSELF. WORST "MANAGER " EVER . WORST RESTAURANT TREATMENT I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE.

Très belle soirée passée dans cet établissement avec un maestro au service,drôle,sympathique et une cuisine excellente si vous aimez le poisson alors n ‘hésitez pas ,vous aller vous régaler.

Amazed that I had to scroll down so far in 'Chingford Restaurants' to find Nostrano.... We went there with some friends who were visiting from Lille in France. As my taste buds have been seriously re-awaked, I decided to go the whole hog -- but then chose the veal cutlet as my main to follow my salt and pepper squid in a light tempura batter Others started with olives, mozzarella and tomato or bruschetta followed by v large pizzas or chicken and mushrooms... When my "cutlet" was delivered, diners on nearby tables were noticeably impressed----- it was so large that it overlapped the plate, I did try, honestly, to do it justice -- but, in the end had to ask if I could have a 'doggy bag' to take home the half that I left Affogatos[ with Baileys] helped us finish off the meal appropriately....... Obviously, we will be back, because there were things on their specials board that offered the veal real competition......

6 of us dined here last night. This restaurant was recommended to us a couple who were with us at the time. Starters: the waiter did not bring all starters up together, had to remind him of two missing starters. Mains: 3 steaks ordered (2 well done, 1 medium). Waiter brought 2 steaks to the table. He didn't know which one was medium/well done. I received the wrong one. Friend received the right one but couldn't start his meal as peppercorn sauce was missing. Then finally after waiting 15 minutes, another steak arrived (which should have been my one). The waiter then wanted to swap my steak over with my friend. He was having none of that and complained that he wasn't going to eat a steak that had been given to another person (me) and had been cut in the middle. The cook evenually came out, aggresively saying, 'What's the problem?' Once explained he started arguing with the waiter in front of everyone (unprofessional). Neither of my other two friends received a new, correctly cooked steak. I had to eat my meal while they watched on. Disgusting, I felt bad for my two friends with no meal plus I felt pressurised to finish it quickly. We will never set foot in this restaurant again. I've heard that it is very good but when things go wrong, they do not know how to handle it. No doubt we got out of there as fast as we could.

I was one of 6 guests really looking forward to a lovely meal to end a lovely day we had had with friends. In fact, we actually highly recommended this restaurant after having gone there for over 15 years - when it was Mamma Mia. Oh boy how we were disappointed. The food came to our table in dribs and drabs and that was the food that was actually brought out. Some of it was forgotten about. The side dishes were never brought out or were the sauces. By the time they would have been brought out what was already on our table would have been cold. All we got from the staff was a shrug of shoulders. The chef finally came out and in an agg manner asked what the matter was. Once we told him, there was a heated discussion between the front of staff and him. Very unprofessional. We couldn't wait to get out even though two of our party didn't actually eat a main course. As far as we are concerned, this is the end of an era of attending this restaurant.

Received delivery via Deliveroo, risotto was half in the carrier bag. Called nostrano who would not accept any responsibility and told us to call Deliveroo. Don’t have time to sit in hold queues, won’t be using Deliveroo again, or going to Nostrano. Take responsibility and value your customers.

Really lovely food and always excellent service too. A family favourite for all the generations in our clan! We keep coming back, and we keep being delighted!

Not been here in a while and very very impressed Inky thing I’d say is book to get a table away from the door, saying that it was a very cold night. We had starters, salmone, monk fish, seafood tags, pizza all delicious. And a great smoothie. Going to order dessert it’s all been so good

Great food. Been twice now. Really great service too. Will be returning!! Very reasonable and very large portions. Cannot wait to return!

Three of us went, all ordering differing starters and mains - everything was very poor. Far better options in Chingford

ABSOLUTELY delicious gnocci and crispy garlic bread! Food arrived quickly and piping hot. Highly recommended

We visited as three friends having a long overdue catch up, the food was really excellent and the service attentive and friendly, while completely relaxed. We were happily left to chat before ordering, and pause before deserts, despite the restaurant being busy.I would recommend.I will now be a regular visitor and wish I had tried it sooner.

The thin & crispy Garlic Bread is amazing. What’s great is unlike many places who for some reason make garlic bread with less garlic, this is full of it like it should be. The Pizza is also the best I’ve ever had & somehow seems to get better every time I go. Great value for money too.

When I go to eat italian food, I expect, full flavor, good sauces, nice service, and in this place, its another place..... Nothing special, better dont back.

Nostrano is a lovely authentic Italian restaurant with a massive menu, and really delicious food. There's something for everyone and the food is great quality with generous portions at great prices. The owners are really passionate and friendly and recently refurbed it so it looks great, there's also a raised area for large groups. No gripes so far. I just wish it were open again now so that we could enjoy the lovely big sun terrace and open front with a nice glass of wine...!

What a lovely find, surprisingly quiet for a Friday night but don’t let this pit you off, the food is amazing, can not fault this restaurant

Excellent Italian restaurant offering authentic dishes. We started with some crispy garlic bread and a big platter to share between for of us. We then have an individual main dish, pasta, pizza, breadcrumb chicken and so on. The portions were very big and all of us were very happy with the food and the whole experience. The waiter and waitress were very efficient, polite and friendly.Definitely, we will come back in the near future.

Having heard quite good reports about this restaurant, we decided to give it a try. Well we've tried it & won't be going back. The service is shocking, considering it was a Saturday evening they weren't particularly busy & there was enough staff to have coped easily with the number of people in there. The menus had been left on the table, which was a promising start, however after being served with our drinks, we waited & waited for our order to be taken & then we had an even longer wait for the food to arrive, which came out in two lots, with a wait in between although there were only four of us! Having waited so long for our food we ordered more drinks, which were completely forgotten about. Although there was plenty of room either side of our table the waitress leaned across us to serve our meals, wrong & very unprofessional. The food was okay, however the vegetables were raw & not en dente & one meal was extremely over salted. The vegetable portions are small, only one, fairly small potato cut into four. It took a while for our table to be cleared & we had to ask for the desert menu. We waited about 15 minutes to order our deserts as the waitress was far too busy chatting. In fact we tried to call/attract her attention four times before another customer made her aware that we need serving. For the poor service & lack of attention plus mediocre food, we thought it wasn't good value for money.

Second time here now the food has so much taste went with my wife and daughter we had starters ( recommend the share platter) and mains plus drinks only came to £90 will always come back here now every time we want italian the staff were all very pleasant and helpful

My husband and I went on a whim and were pleasantly surprised, we had a pizza and pasta dish each which were very good, the pasta dish we couldn’t finish, so they packaged it up for us and took it home. Definitely recommend

Just back from lunch at Nostrano, (used to be Mamma Mia), in Chingford. Fabulous chicken Milanese for husband & liver & bacon with caponata for me. Consistently yummy comfort food here, specially on a dull Summer’s day.

My daughter took me here for father’s day and the food was amazing will definitely be going back great fresh and tasty

I have been here a number of times either with family, as a couple or with friends. Each time the food is tasty and the service is efficient and (the female waitresses) friendly. The only reason we wouldn’t give it 5 stars is sometimes they can be a little inflexible I.e. no customers but can’t grab a coffee outside as you have to order food (get it if it’s busy but when it’s really quiet, doesn’t make sense) and the male waiter, although efficient, is a bit aloof at times.Like the atmosphere and food here though, and will definitely be back.

Three of us descended on this restaurant on a weekday for lunch. It used to be known as 'Mamma Mia' but is now changed to 'Nostrano' with some cosmetic changes to the decor, which prove favourable. It still retains a rustic charm and has split-level seating, but the fresh tables and chairs and suspended lighting gives it a romantic feel with sufficient light to read the menu. We were greeted with warmth by Annie, who hasn't lost any of her welcoming grace. We were shown to our table of choice and were soon perusing the menu, which hasn't changed much and is sufficiently varied to suit most palates. We soon placed our orders that comprised of seafood, pasta, and fish; they were all prepared to a high standard and flavourful. Their house red is a Merlot and is exceptionally smooth. We concluded this delightful dining experience with a cappuccino, black Americano, and a lemon tea, plus a Sambuca. Though it became quite busy, the staff still found time to share banter and laughter with us. Annie and Allessio, the co-owners, found the time to have a chat and it was great to catch up with them.

Came with my family party of 5 as a late 81st Birthday treat for my Dad! We had a variety of starters including thin and crispy garlic bread +olives etc and Calamari and pork terrine de maison..All excellent..followed by Gnocci +seafood spaghetti calves liver and bacon +chicken escalope..These were also superb.Decent portion sizes and friendly service..Well worth a visit!!

I booked a table to celebrate my son's birthday and Mother's Day. Knowing that the restaurant would be busy on Mothers Day I rang again during the week prior to confirm that our numbers had increased by one (from 6 to 7) and we would like the table slightly earlier. This was all agreed and we were looking forward to celebrating these events with my elderly parents. We came in two parties so my parents had been there for 10 minutes before I came and discovered the problem that they had not increased the table seating. My son told me that he had already raised it with the staff but nothing had been done as yet. It was apparent that we would not all be able to fit at the table allocated so I went to the service station to try and get someone's attention. I eventually managed this and spoke to the lady I had made the booking with who proceeded to tell me that I had changed the time but not the number booked despite her having reconfirmed this to me during our telephone conversation!The attitude of the staff dealing with our issue during our time waiting left a lot to be desired. The only solution they offered, apart from ignoring us, was to separate the party into two tables!Needless to say we left without eating and won't be returning.

Having been to previous Italian restaurants at this same location i.e. gennaro and mama Mia we went with eager anticipation The decor is inviting and staff welcoming Four of us went we started with garlic bread which came up as a round starter which made a change and we all enjoyed it. I had pasta dish my wife fish cake from the special boards boys had pizza and other steakWe all. Enjoyed the food. Bill came to £113. Only thing I didn't like was that only large bottles of morreti beer which cost £7.50 each so 5 came to £37.50

We were in North Chingford for a couple of jobs and needed some lunch, this was one of a number of Italian restaurants in the area. It looked modern and attractive.At just one midday there were no other clients in when we arrived, although it was busier towards the end of the meal.I went for braised chicken livers, and my wife for the scampi moth were very good, the mains I stuck with a Hawaiian pizza and my partner fish and chips. The pizza was large and came with a large steak knife. The fish and chips looked good, but the batter was not cooked and needed to be left. Despite the pile of batter at the side of plate the waiter said nothing when he cleared the plates!Not a bad price but has so much potential
