I visited this restaurant as part of a large group having a social get together. Parking is available outside on the main road, but required a ticket up until 6:30 after which I believe it is free. Finding a space can sometimes be a challenge as it is a busy street and is equally busy during the evenings especially at weekends due to the number of bars and restaurants in the street. It is in easy walking distance of the Chingford Overground Station and Bus stops. Decor is OK, but the tables are a bit scratched and look worn. It would be a simple thing to use table cloths to cover this up and make the place look a little more refined. There is a raised section of seating and access to this is quite a challenge even for the staff when serving, with a balustrade stopping diners from falling off the raised area, but also limiting the space behind the chairs for people to move behind. The group was quite large and took over pretty much two thirds of the restaurant and we were all ordering at more or less the same time. With 40 odd covers it would be a challenge to get so many plates out at once. The Menu is quite extensive with Antipasti, Pizza, Pasta & Risotto, Insalate, Secondi and Contorni. The choices in each section provide enough variation for most tastes, with a few vegetarian options. I did not equire about glutan free. A separate desert menu offered a reasonable range of deserts and the wine list had a decent range of wines and other drinks. I had a starter of stuffed breaded mushrooms with gorgonzola, pancetta and a drizzle of aged balsamic syrup. Having been to a Balsamic factory in Italy, I can attest that this was the real thing! I ordered the a 10 Oz Rib Eye and was very nice, tender and tasty but a little over Medium (which I asked for) and any pink was hard to find. It tasted pretty good so I let it slide especially with so many orders going through the kitchen. I was servers quite quickly, but I was one of the first to get their order in. My fiance and I were finishing our deserts when the last of the group were being served their mains, but without pre-ordering it would have been pretty much impossible to serve everyone at once. The service was attentive, order taking accurate and pretty much as quick as they could make it. The background music was not too intrusive, but he ambience was a little noisy as characterised by many restaurants these days with he lack of soft furnishings to absorb the sound. I did not hear any complaints about the food from any of the other 40 people in our group, with some struggling to manage the portion size. The veal cutlets used in a few of the dishes were massive! There was also a specials board and a Christmas 3 course menu on offer too. All in all the foot was excellent. The staff struggled to get all the good out, but understandable considering the numbers! I will definitely be going back again, but not as part of such a big group. I would also recommend this venue to friends.

Ok first things first we was handed the menu it took the staff the better part of 30 minutes to come over and even ask if we would like drinks another 10 minutes purely due to the staff chatting gossiping amongst them selfs. I don’t recommend anybody ever goes here it is genuinely the worst Italian restaurant in chingford due purely to the lack of customer service and the fact the chef believes he can do no wrong drowning everything in oil and garlic example being I ordered bruschetta what was floating on oil covered in garlic barely a tomatoe in sight when explained to the staff they gave me a simple stare of confusion. I say avoid I even asked for a simple drink with no ice they managed the drink but couldn’t resist putting ice in my cup they will literally do the complete opposite to what you ask. PS Ask for your bruschetta to be covered In oil and garlic and maybe just maybe the chef might make it correctly like every other Italian restaurant I’ve ever been to in my life. Again avoid at all costs.

Went here on a Saturday evening for a meal with my guy... very busy but we got a table without booking. The waitress was very pleasant and friendly, we had the house wine which was lovely. I had the salmon with hollandaise sauce and asparagus and I can honestly say it’s one of the best pieces of Salmon I have ever had.. so tasty and cooked to perfection. The restaurant as a whole was clean and very well set out.. great for families and get togethers with friends.. would not say it is for a romantic evening, even though we had a great time but it’s definitely worth a visit, the food is stunning.

Had a very enjoyable evening here, food was good, sorbet was delicious, waiter offered to give a mix and match which was even better. I had chicken in a tasty mushroom sauce and my friend had lasagne and salad. House wine fine. Only gripe, not everyone wants huge portions so I ended up leaving a lot. General request to restaurants, and I saw this in a restaurant in Cornwall, portions for adults can be child sized. I have a gastric cancer and there are issues associated with this so it does get annoying when you pay for food you know you won’t be able to manage. But sitting outside this restaurant in this hot, hot weather was lovely

Lovely food and good table service. However, my daughter-in-law needed to change my baby granddaughter and was unable to use the changing table in the ladies toilet as it is positioned at eye-level; approx 5 feet from the ground! The waitress was very helpful in trying to find an alternative to changing the baby in the middle of the restaurant and suggested using a space that is clearly indicated as a disabled toilet. A senior member of staff was very reluctant to allow my daughter-in-law to use this room but eventually agreed. In the first instance, this new mum should not have to negotiate a suitable place to change a nappy and be made to feel that she is being nuisance, and secondly, the 'disabled toilet' is apparently an ad-hoc storage/staff locker room. We have used this restaurant several times in the past to celebrate family occasions but now we have two newborns, I'm afraid we probably won't be back.

Following the good reviews, I decided to come here with my wife, as she fancied eating pizza. The restaurant is quite big, so not booking advance is not a problem at all, as there are many tables. The menu is quite extensive, plus there is a board with especial starters and main courses. This time, we were a bit classic and we had the crispy garlic bread, and two pizzas, a Cuatro Estacione and Mamma Mia. They were huge, so we had to take some slices for take-away. The total bill was £30.90 with a large bottle of still water, not bad considering the portions. The service was very good, both, the waiter and waitress, were quite friendly and polite. We will definitely come back.

My wife, Angela, and I, visited this welcoming eatery for a late lunch on Sunday, and we weren't disappointed. In fact, we were so happy with the food and service that we stayed on until early evening! We were shown to our table of choice by a friendly waitress. The decor remains unchanged with an inviting rustic charm. It is split-level with folding glass doors at the front that open onto a small terrace area. The background music was pleasant and at the right decibel level. They had decorated the place festively with a lovely Christmas tree in the front, which lent a lovely ambience to the place. The head waiter, who we've come to know, was his usual happy and friendly self. We soon placed our orders: Angela went for the fritto trio, and I selected the capesante con pancetta. The fritto trio was brilliantly prepared and presented, and Angela wolfed down the calamari, prawns, and white bait with a garlic dip; while I happily devoured my scallops topped with crispy bacon, on a bed of mashed peas and a drizzle of balsamic. The flavours were out of this world. Angela and I both then attacked the pan-seared salmon on a bed of mashed potatoes and beans in a Prosecco sauce; the fish was moist and had absorbed the flavour of the sauce. This culinary delight was washed down with a delightful Pinot Grigiot white, which was perfectly chilled, and complemented our meal to perfection. We then found room for dessert: Angela wantonly indulged in a light cheesecake, and I chose the cheeseboard with a Merlot. Angela loved every mouthful of her cheesecake, and my cheeseboard would have challenged a gargantuan, but it had a terrific variety of cheeses, crackers, and biscuits with a sweetish relish dip, and strawberries - it was fantastic. By then Alessio, the proprietor of this wonderful establishment, found time from the 'hot room' to chat with us. Then the ever-graceful Annie, the proprietress, chatted and laughed with us. Amazingly, she always appears calm and unruffled no matter what challenges come her way. We then concluded this gastronomic extravaganza with complimentary Ports from our gracious hosts. Grazie mille Annie and Alessio for this sublime dining experience and a Buon Natale. Keep smiling, and we'll be seeing you soon.

I popped into this charming restaurant for dinner, and I wasn't disappointed. The Christmas tree and decorations were up, lending the inviting, rustic decor with a warm ambience. Roberto greeted me with his usual warmth, friendliness, and made me feel right at home. I commenced my culinary safari with Capesante Grigliate Con Pancetta, which is seared scallops with rolled, crispy pancetta on a bed of mashed peas, and drizzled with balsamic vinegar; the contrasting flavours of the smoked pancetta and seared scallops, with the sweetness of the mashed peas, together with the sharpness of the balsamic vinegar, was an exciting explosion on my palate. My main course was off their innovative specials' board, and it was seared salmon on a slightly sourish, tomato-based sauce with potatoes and vegetables; once more the flavours were full, and the fish was beautifully prepared retaining its moistness and absorbing the flavour of the sauce. This was christened with a light, crisp Orvieto: a brilliant white wine from Italy. I concluded my gluttony with my traditional Limoncello plus complimentary ones. During the meal, the place became pleasantly buzzy, which added to the atmosphere. Despite being busy, Annie, the proprietress, who possesses a natural warmth and grace, and who never appears harried or flustered, and Roberto, still found the time to share laughter and chat with me. Throughout the meal, the service never faltered. The incredible chef, who happens to be Annie's husband and co-proprietor, found the time to chat before I left. This is what epitomises this wonderful eatery: friendship, great tasting food, and good, healthy laughter. Grazie mille for turning my dining experience into a memorable one. The decor still possesses a romantic rustic intimacy and, on this night, they had the front folding doors opened to the night air and their terrace. Angela and I went for the parma ham and melon; it was beautifully presented on the plate, and the melon was fresh, sweet, and juicy, which refreshed our palates. Angela then attacked her dover sole and trimmings with exuberant relish; I took no survivors, and demolished my seabass saltimboucca in seconds flat. We commenced our culinary adventure with Angela demolishing her meatballs in a garlic tomato sauce and chorizo with garlic bread, in unbridled relish, intoning with every mouthful that the meatballs were beautifully tender and full of flavour - she's still dreaming about it!I went for the capesante con pancetta, which is pan-fried scallops adorned with bacon, seated on a bed of mashed mint peas with drizzles of balsamic; it was exquisitely presented, and the contrasting flavours of the smokiness of the bacon, and the scallops and mint peas were fantastic. I then attacked my main course of salmon on a bed of crushed potatoes with prawns in a rich lobster bisque sauce and green beans; the fish was perfectly prepared: moist and had wondrously absorbed the flavour of the sauce, which was out of this world. Angela went for the spigola saltimbocca, which was pan-fried seabass covered with thinly sliced ham in a sage and butter garlic sauce; she is still salivating over the taste. This gastronomic delight was baptised with a light and fruity Orvieto, a lovely Italian white wine that complemented our meal brilliantly. We were too full to attempt any dessert but finished off with a lemon tea for Angela and a black Americano for me, accompanied by a Limoncello for my palate and a cherry Grappa for Angela, both of which were on the house - grazie mille! Though it became quite busy, the service was professional and never faulted, and Annie and Roberto still made time to chat and laugh with us with their customary grace and warmth. Our huge compliments to their very talented chef, and many thanks to all at Mamma Mia for making our dining experience a delight. This is a terrific Italian eatery and one that I'd wholeheartedly recommend. Keep smiling, have a great Christmas, and we'll be back. Ciao for now.

My wife, Angela and I popped into this lovely eatery on a Wednesday night. The warm greeting, chat, and laughter was uplifting. The place still retains its rustic charm with pleasant background music at a sensible decibel level. It was midweek so it wasn't too crowded. Angela kicked off her culinary indulgence with capesante con grigliate and enjoyed every mouthful; the flavours form the seared scallops on a bed of crushed peas and balsamic vinegar made her grin delightedly. I commenced my happy war with parma ham and melon; the ham was thinly sliced and tender and the melon was juicy, which refreshed my palate. For her main course, Angela went for the seabass wrapped in prosciutto, which she consumed in seconds flat; I devoured the merluzzo con pomodori secchi e chorizo, which was cod on a bed of crushed potatoes, green beans and chillies and it was fantastico. This was baptised with a brilliant Orvieto, a light pleasant white from Italy. We finished off with a Limoncelli and black Americano for me, and a lemon tea for Angela, plus complimentary ones from our gracious hosts. Grazie mille. Thanks once more for making our dining experience a splendid one and we'll definitely be back. Ciao and keep smiling.

We came here to have lunch with some friends and I was amazed at the quality and quantity of food for the amount charged, we all went for the 2 Course set menu for £9.99 and it was surprisingly good, 2 of us had The Meatballs for starters and that was like a main, the portion sizes were very generous for our main we had Lamb Steaks served with sauté potatoes and salad and again it was rather a large plate of food, the Lamb was tasty, succulent and tender the quality of food and the way it was cooked was so good. I don't know how this place makes a profit. Our Waitress was very pleasant and because one of my friends left so much food because she is a small eater the Waitress queried if her meal was ok. I liked this place and will definitely be returning

My wife, Angela and I booked a table on Wednesday night at this lovely restaurant. The decor is somewhat rustic with a warm ambience. The floor is split levelled with background music at the right volume; you don't need a megaphone to be heard. We were greeted and shown to our table by a friendly and welcoming waitress, and were met with the ever graceful and smiling Annie (the proprietress), who always makes us feel like old friends with her laughter and chat. Angela and I soon commenced our gastronomic fest. I went for the butterflied king prawns in a spicy sauce, which was flavourful without burning the mouth; Angela went for the sardines in breadcrumbs off their specials' board, which she found tasty and pleasant. Then with salivating expectancy, we devoured our mains with no mercy shown: Angela munched her way through the pan-fried swordfish with capers, peppers, and assorted trimmings, and her expression revealed that it had filled her palate delightfully; I assaulted their risotto, scallops and caviare, which was well-presented on the plate and it was perfect in texture, taste, and freshness - I'm still dreaming about it! This all was baptised with a perfectly chilled Orvieto: a delicious Italian white with a hint of almonds that complemented our meal exquisitely. Unbelievably, Angela found room for dessert, which she wolfed down in seconds flat; I could only manage a black Americano and Amaretto plus a complimentary one by our delightful hostess, Annie, which included a Frangelico for Angela. We then had a chat to the very talented chef (the proprietor), Annie's husband whom I must compliment on his brilliant culinary masterpieces. They are such warm and lovely people, and the cuisine is innovative and damned good. If you want professional, friendly service with great food and laughter, Mamma Mia's the place to be. Until we next meet, grazie mille for the splendid dining experience and for making us feel so welcome, ciao, and keep smiling.

The Mama Mia restaurant is local to us, and my wife and I booked for a Thursday night. It had a decent number of diners, the service was very good, the atmosphere pleasant, and the food was OK. We had a Taste Card and received a 2 for 1 discount on starters and main courses. All in all a very nice evening.

I went here on a weekday lunchtime with my elderly parents and we all had meals from the 'specials' menu. This was £9.99 for a starter, main and glass of wine. The restaurant is clean and authentic and the service was very efficient. The waiter was really helpful and quite amusing to boot.Food was very good, the pizza is lovely and really big. The spicy wings starter was very messy though as it was in a sauce and its very difficult to eat chicken wings using a knife and fork! One small criticism was that the background music was a little too loud but when this was pointed out, they lowered the volume immediately.Overall, a nice experience and I would return again in the future.

My partner was convalessing locally after an operation and our first trip out was for an early Sunday Lunch. Not knowing the area there were a variety of restaurants in the same street, that mostly looked ok, so chose the Mamma Mia as was close to parking. What a great meal, service and value for money. Brilliant. Food superbly cooked, staff/owner friendly and very helpful. So good, went back next evening again....just the same. Excellent. We live 100 or so miles away so will not be in the area very often, but will certainly return if we are anywhere nearby.

My wife, Angela and I popped into this fantastic eatery for dinner on Sunday. We were met with warmth and smiles by Annie (hope I've spelt her name correctly?!) and Roberto; they're such lovely and friendly people. We immediately commenced our pleasant culinary hostilities with Angela consuming her breaded smorsa (unsure of the spelling!) off their specials' board in seconds flat; she said it was full of flavour with the aubergines and tomato based sauce producing an exquisite taste. I happily attacked their fish cake off their specials' board, which proved moist and tasty. Angela then assaulted her seabass with proscuitto and trimmings; the fish was beautifully prepared and melted in her mouth with rich flavours. I devoured linguine al granchio: crab in a tomato and garlic based sauce with chillies; this was sublime in texture, taste, and with just the right amount of spiciness - brilliant. This was baptised with a chilled Orvieto: a light, fruity white from Italy. Being pretty well sated, Angela and I had to share a dessert: a strawberry cheesecake; a light and refreshing flavour with a drizzle of chocolate and grapes and sliced strawberries around the edges of the plate, and a crisp biscuit base - a perfection in taste, presentation, and preparation. We concluded this gastronomic delight with a black Americano for me and a lemon tea for Angela plus a complimentary Limoncello and Frangelico. Though it got pretty busy, at no time did the service and professionalism falter, and Annie and Roberto still found time to chat and laugh with us; this is the true measure of excellence. To sum up: great background music, great food, an intimate ambience, and the warm friendliness and grace of Aniie and Roberto made it a splendid dining experience - fantastico! Grazie mille to Annie, Roberto, and their superb chef. Also, not only is their chef talented in his culinary innovations, but so is Annie in her dessert masterpieces. This is THE place to dine if you love fine cuisine, friendly and professional service, and great atmosphere. Ciao Mamma Mia and we look forward to seeing you all again, until then - keep smiling.

Went here for dinner with my friend, we were sat at a table for 2 that was so small it just about fit our plates on. The table was placed in the fireplace (not in use!) with the mantle above our heads. The table was wobbly and sticky. The waitress finally sorted the wobbling table out after asking her 3 times!I asked what the specials were and was told "read the board" which I couldn't see from the fireplace! We ordered starters they came and were very nice, it took them 30 minutes to clear our plates then we waited another 20 minutes for our main. It came and was actually lovely, until I removed a big hair from my mouth which was wrapped around a piece of salmon, obviously cooked into it. I told the waitress who returned from the kitchen with it on a plate and said it didn't come from the kitchen it is blonde and the cooks are dark (my friend and I are both brown) she insinuated we had planted it there. The manager brought the bill and said I have taken 10% off your main course that's the best your getting!! We were disgusted never have I ever been accused of such a thing. Will NEVER EVER return to this restaurant and I will let everyone I can know my awful experience.

Such a shame as it could be very good . Very extensive menu so great expectations . We were there for over 30 mins before our orders were taken . Our starters were huge and very tasty but it took them some 25 mins to clear our plates ! Our mains were not that great . My fish came covered in sauce and meat all over it despite me ordering it without as I don't eat meat . The waiter actually asked if I wanted a fresh dish or could he just remove the meat !!! Another main was returned for various reasons . Our waiter was very courteous and rectified the issues with apologise and a free drink but then it took another 25 mins and 3 times of asking to get our bill . Perhaps it was just an off night !

Extremely average food, below average service. And the heat in there was like a Turkish sauna. The starters were all ok, but my main which was dover sole was extremely small and drowning in sauce, and one veal chop which was at best rubbery and tasteless. Annoyed at the fact that after we had finished our first course, it took about 20 minutes for the plates to be removed, eve n though several waiting staff walked past the table numerous times. Even when we asked for the bill (3 times) it took about 10 minutes to bought to the table. Won't be retuning.

Once more Mamma Mia ticked all the boxes: the decor was rustic with a warm charm and a buzzy atmosphere. We were welcomed with great friendliness and shown to our table. The service was impeccable as ever. The cuisine was faultless. My wife, Angela commenced her culinary indulgence with calamari lightly dusted with crumbs on a bed of rocket, balsamic, and tartare; her main consisted of lemon sole with chunky double-cooked chips in a meuniere sauce. Both satisfied her tastebuds exquisitely. I began my gluttony with king scallops, chorizo and spring onions in puff pastry; this was gorgeous on my palate: the taste and texture were perfect. My main delicacy was salmon on a bed of crushed potatoes in a lemon and saffron sauce with green beans; the flavours were rich yet light on the palate: a salivatory experience. This was baptised with a new white wine from Italy, Poggio ... (unsure if the spelling is correct!) which complemented our meal perfectly. We concluded this gastronomic debauchery with a black Americano and Amaretto for me, and a Frangelico for Angela. We were then graciously served with a perfectly chilled complimentary limoncello for me and a Frangelico for Angela. Grazie mille to Roberto and all at Mamma Mia for making us feel so welcome, and for the smiles, chat, and laughter. Our compliments to their terrific chef - thanks for your expertise and talent. This lovely eatery has now become our hot favourite. Keep smiling, you all and we'll definitely be back. I'm a huge lover of all things Italian and have searched high and low for good, hearty italian meals and I have been fortunate to find it a few miles from home (well worth the journey!) Firstly, the waiting staff are very attentive and clearly know the dishes/wines very well and are very good at pairing. The owners are always around (be it chef Alessio in the kitchen) or Ana in the front; they are very welcoming, friendly and talkative and always create a warm atmosphere. Also, the waiter Roberto is a lovely gent, full of character and humour. Overall the place has an authentic hearty, italian atmosphere and its especially lovely in the summer when they open the doors onto the decking or dim the lights and light the candles in the colder days! The food is divine and I have had explored the menu thoroughly. Every week there is a new specials on the board, such as different cuts of steak (even zebra or wild boar occasionally), beautiful seafood dishes and many many more. The pizzas are hands down the best I've had in the area and are always presented beautifully (check out the calzone!). Plenty of pasta dishes and vegetarian options all of a good price. House speciality marinara is my favourite. Majority of desserts are made by Ana and I recommend her ever changing divine variety of cheesecakes.

My wife, Angela and I invaded this delightful eatery for lunch today, which is fast becoming one of our favourite haunts. It was busy and buzzy. But the service was still professional and friendly. The brilliant background music was at the right volume and set a warm ambience. We promptly commenced our culinary battle: Angela and I both went for the capesante grigliate con pancetta; the flavour was a wondrous mix of smoky bacon, seared scallops, and mashed mint peas. We then assaulted our mains: Angela went for the seabass saltimboucca; the fish melted in her mouth with an exquisite taste. I devoured grilled swordfish on a bed of crushed potatoes with seared artichokes, tomatoes, peppers, and shallots off their specials' board; the fusion of flavours were delicate and salivatory - brilliant! This was christened with a light and fruity rose, which complemented the meal perfectly, We then indulged in further gastronomic debauchery with their home-made chocolate mocca cheesecake, which was truly sinfully scrummy. We concluded this culinary brilliance with a lemon tea for Angela and a black Americano and Amaretto for me. We were graciously offered a complimentary limoncello but had to take a 'rain cheque' on that one. A grazie mille to Mamma Mia's for the food, music, and friendly service. My compliments to their brilliant and talented chef. I would recommend this eatery to anyone who loves Italian cuisine and professional, friendly service. We'll be back.

Reading the positive reviews on Mamma Mia, my wife, Angela and I decided to try it - it was simply great! We popped in for lunch. We were met by the head waiter who was friendly and yet professional. The decor is somewhat rustic, but adds to the ambience. It could possibly do with a bit of a facelift, but it was still very pleasant. The background music was just right, enhancing the atmosphere of the place. Angela had Arrancini to start, and I had the capesante grigliate con pancetta; they were both fantastic in flavour and presentation. We then devoured the spigola alla soltimboucca: seared seabass fillets with fresh runner beans and a creamy mashed potato with a flavourful sauce; the flesh of the fish was beautifully moist and melted in your mouth, and the flavours were perfectly balanced so that it filled your palate with warmth and deliciousness. We accompanied this culinary delight with a lovely Orvieto: a light and fruity white wine from Italy. We finished off with a walnut and chocolate cheesecake: it wasn't too creamy, and the base was crispy, and the whole flavour and texture made our tastebuds jump with joy. We concluded this gastronomic brilliance with a lemon tea for Angela and a black Americano for me plus our traditional limoncellos. Based on this experience I would unreservedly recommend this eatery to all who relishes great Italian cuisine and friendly service with a smile. Grazie mille to the chef and to Mamma Mia. North Chingford is well endowed - with eateries. Prezzo, Pubs,Thai, Indianx3, Chinesex2, Bistros, Italian.. Last minute decision to eat out, Saturday evening, first choice fully booked but fancied Italian, managed to get an early table here. Very easy to overlook the fact that, with everyone enjoying themselves it was a bit noisy because this was good food. Avoided the Zebra steak on the specials board and started with the antipasto platter for two - almost a full meal in itself [ salami, calamari, parma ham, meatballs, stuffed mushrooms, artichoke hearts, fresh and sundried tomatoes, rocket and a large bowl of mixed olives with a basket of bread]. Mme managed most her giant pizza, I went for the calves liver and bacon with red onion sauce, served with saute potatoes and really al dente seasonal vegetables. Real quality. Unsurprisingly we couldn't manage a dessert - - - maybe next time!

We pre-booked our table for dinner via their internet booking system @20.00 hours using tastecard but upon our arrival, the manager was not expecting us and explained that his internet was a bit "iffy" but he welcomed us with open arms which we thought was very nice. This is the first time we have visited this place and we were not disappointed. The menu offered a good choice of dishes and also a good House red wine. This friendly, good value restaurant is a firm favourite of mine, for family and friends. It provides a good, extensive menu and I've sampled the meats, pastas and pizzas and nothing has disappointed me and it's always been tasty, plentiful and well presented. Their wine list is good, I'd prefer maybe some further "by the glass" selections, but appreciate that's not always economical. Their prices are competitive and they always provide fresh vegetables and potatoes with the meat dishes. Annie and staff, keep up the good work.
