Norman Inn in Barnsley

On this visit, the tables had empty glasses and napkins on. The tables were not clean, nor were the menus. There was once again a 45 minute wait. The men’s toilet was unpleasant.

Our local had food and drink and was lovely. Staff are helpful and keen to help. Premises were clean and kids playground looked safe.Enjoyed it but was disappointed all Sunday lunches had been sold out. It was only 2.30pm! Ate off the normal menu but that is not what we really wanted.

Okay for a pub meal,don't expect anything really special though, prices are OK.

Came for my birthday, friendly greeting by female staff member. Meals once ordered wasn't too long in arriving. All fine except steak on mixed grill ordered by 2 people was really gristly so most was left. This was mentioned to staff when they collected our plates and asked how meals were. To be fair she came back and offered my husband a refund for his grill which he refused as he said he had eaten everything else on plate so he had a free desert instead as he hadn't ordered one with the others. All in all no complaints and will come back again in the future

Great bar staff, cocktails made from scratch rather than pre mixed. Food average, but great if you just want a snack whilst out for a drink

Excellent pub atmosphere. Fish and chips are first class. Long wait for food when busy.

Had the haddock and chips. Fresh fish battered and fried by them. Mushy peas and Tartare sauce. Absolutely lovely. Would highly recommend.

Repeat visitors to Norman Inn. Great staff, lovely food. Good atmosphere. Couldn't do enough for myself and friend, highly recommended. They were just putting up Christmas lights. The manager even came in on his day off to do it! Dedication 😁

Staff and service are always on point, friendly and efficient. Food is always hot and cooked perfect. A game of pool while we're waiting. What more can you want from a little family meal out.

Now that the Norman inn has been taken over by new management , it's much much better in everyway.

Martin Angus and Tracy fisher are absolutely amazing host. It doesn't matter who is in charge the pub still runs like a well oiled machine. Amazing customer service. Made to feel welcome and appreciated xx

Food was ok, could have been warmer. However tables were sticky and the floor around the table was covered in peas!

Had a surf and turf at the Norman and my husband had the mixed grill. I asked for mine medium not expecting it to be right, but they must have a new chef since the last time we were here as the steak was perfectly cooked! It’s not often you actually get what you ask for when it comes to steak but our compliments to the chef. The service was brilliant too, the only thing is the atmosphere left a lot to be desired; we went on a weekend in the afternoon and though there were plenty of people in, I think the layout of the place needs looking at, and it’s in great need of refurbishment. The staff are fab and the food is brill,just needs a bit of tlc and change round to the layout to make it warm and cosy.

I’m not sure what the names are of the staff but they are all really friendly and very approachable. The bar man is extra lovely, chatting, friendly and very helpful. He always makes us feel welcome. I love this place it’s really inviting. We’ve booked a table for 8 on Christmas Day and we are really looking forward to it.

Somewhat unorganized. Nobody to greet you when you go in and the staff don't even ask you when standing and waiting at the doorway. I eventually went up to him and told him that I booked. He didn't know what I should do, so had to go to ask somebody else. Finally sat us down and we ordered food at the bar. The food was not bad but just the service was poor.

Martin is very rude, poor service and customer skills.

The staff were lovely and polite. The food was amazing as well. Cleanliness was at a good standard.

Has gone a little downhill since my last visit was really difficult to order children's food as children's menu was only available through the app and as I was busy with organising my mums wake at this same venue it made a difficult time a whole lot harder. Staff are excellent and extremely friendly, however the food was not up to much and the menu wasn't easy to navigate through the app I would say this isn't due to any staffing issues but a wider chain issue I.e suppliers and just basic problems with it been a chain also it's a little overpriced

I ordered 2 ‘meals of the day’. It advertised steak & a drink for £11.75. I was poised to tap my card when I realised I was actually being charged £36!! I queried it and was told “well the drinks you ordered are not included! (We ordered 2 lime and sodas). I changed the drinks and he recalculated at £29. I said sorry it’s £23.50 and he started to get rather agitated. Twice during my transaction he went off to help someone else and left me waiting. He finally recalculated at £24.50. Close but unfortunately not correct. He got angry and made me feel very uncomfortable like I was at fault. If I hadn’t been with my 84 year old mother I would definitely have walked out

We all (mostly) enjoyed the food and the drinks. Small gripe about the garlic flatbread being dusty on top and not cooked as it should be... (Two of our party are former Marstens assistant managers/temp pub managers, and when they tried it, they just made mention) App worked well for the food, although I'm told the voucher I received earlier for 30% off couldn't be used on it. (Can't confirm this, maybe the voucher was exclusive to me, and I didn't order or pay for the food.) I had no problems opening a tab and paying for drinks when we'd all finished, though. Friendly and efficient staff. 🙂 (One more thing, the ice cream on the desserts didn't seem quite right. Is it vegan? Or have you changed suppliers? It wasn't very creamy and seemed to have a lot of little ice crystals in it.)

Went for a girls get together and we were really impressedwith the food and friendly staff as the last time we went there it was under old management and the food was disappointing and service was rubbish. We had a selection of different meals and all were superb and then we all had cheesecake dessert which was also served beautifully and was delicious. I can definitely recommend this place now

Friendly staff, good service although as the pub got busier, service slowed down so I ordered by using the bar code on the table. The drinks arrived fairly fast. We sat outside, the tables are a bit rickety but we found one that was fairly solid.

Firstly the guy on the bar (dark hair and big beard) was EXTREMELY rude. Point at his ears for us to speak up over the music, clicking his fingers for us to hurry up our order. The pub itself wasn't clean food all over n full of feral children. We waited an hour nearly for a microwaved burger and chips and some warmed up breaded mushrooms that were meant to come with garlic mayo but didn't...it's like a worse version of spoons. Only good thing is prices...it's cheap so get what you pay for I guess. Won't be returning.

Great atmosphere the staff were lovely, very consistent coming back to check if we were enjoying our time. Food came out perfectly cooked and on time just a great experience all together.

Entertainment was great, food came out to scratch loved my meal. All staff were lovely and welcoming.

Absolutely rubbish ,waited 1 and half hour for food to come ,then it come on 2 settings meaning ppl had finished before other had got theirs!!! Rude waitress with attitude problem !!!

Called in today as we're local. Tried to order food , eventually 3rd time lucky they actually had something on menu available! Tall gent on bar extremely ride to say the least. Shocking customer service. Food came, not very presentable and not very warm, something wrong on order but when I went to question it was spoken to buy a young member (also rude) like I was thick! Was told because the order was my mistake they could do it again BUT I'd have to pay lol. No way! Not one ounce of customer service went into us today. Make no wonder it was dead! Don't waste your time, honestly better off throwing 60 pond down drain outside. Oh and health and safety not so clever either, playing pool with a dangling wire, wow.

I visited at lunchtime, menu good value for money. Nice food. Welcoming, friendly, attentive staff.

Overall a lovely experience. I hated marking down for service because the servers were lovely, we just had quite a long wait. We were informed it would be but the food did take a long time. Having said that the atmosphere is great and the time passed quickly. When the food arrived it was delicious. We will Definitely go again and in fact after my recommendation my parents are going this week!!

Service was quite slow and staff seems stressy when asking them questions. Food was ok average what you would expect for the price. The chairs and tables are a little tatty and broken.

We came in for food with our little boy. Ordered the pizza and loaded chips for us, fish fingers for the little one. The food was to die for. Toilets weren’t upto much however it didn’t spoil our dinner. Will defo be back again.

Not relaxing, alcahol way to expensive, bought Fish&CHips with peas, Fish was 10 out of 10, chips were not chips they are frys and not enough to feed a sparrow food is all slightly exoensive

Just called in the Norman in on the off chance after visiting tommy taylor's grave in monk bretton cemetary. The place was very nice, and friendly and hopefully will be back visiting again.

Had a nice meal from afternoon club menu 2 of us had prawn cocktail 1 had breaded mushrooms I had the fish and chips was lovely other 2 had hunters chicken said it was nice but chicken a bit dry but was happy £4.95 each serving staff lovely and friendly, efficient, man behind bar could be a bit abrupt but hey ho theres always 1 enjoyed our afternoon anyway

Love coming to this pub it’s only up street from me staff are lovely and the beer garden is nice and clean . The only downfall is I wish you would serve the baguettes all day like you used to

Visited Norman Inn recently for a funeral get together. The food was really nice and there was a good selection. The pub itself is modern and the staff are polite and friendly.

For the money you paid,u didnt get a lot of food,like the cowboy burger,it was like it was from wetherspoons with it been small 🙄

Good pricing for food, kids food is good, although last time we came they gave kids meals peppered sausage, so it was only mash that was eaten, I mean on a kids meal don't throw so much pepper on the food. Adults were alright,

We come to the pub most Wednesday for the quiz, we always get a warm welcome and the staff are all really friendly, the quiz is good fun and we look forward to going each week, I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Excellent service from start to finish. There was 12 people in our booking & we all got food & drinks together.

We used this venue for my mams wake after her funeral at monk bretton Church and graveyard as it is a local pub restaurant. It turned out to be an excellent choice, we had our own private part of the pub so all of our guests could be seated together ,then served with a delicious buffet with a good variety of dishes to choose from .staff were very helpful polite and friendly .made a very nice conclusion to our day .Will highly recommend the Norman Inn for future occasions. Thank you

Food wasn't inedible but that's the best I can say, the staff was definitely the best thing about this place, pleasant and polite
