Had dinner at 7pm on Sunday (food available until 8pm so not end of service) and it was disappointing. I ordered the stew with dumplings. I love stew and dumplings! What arrived was stew with two pieces of ciabatta bread. The server whooshed away before I could ask about it. Nobody came to ask how our food was. At the end of the meal I asked about the missing dumplings to be told they're not doing dumplings any more, but haven't changed the menu. Why didn't they say that when I ordered? I asked for the 'stew and dumplings' because that's what it says on the menu. The ciabatta itself was a cheap, generic, dry bread and it just wasn't what I wanted. Peas were a bit dry and hard. The stew itself was very tasty! Well done whoever made that. Stew and dumplings is a thing. Stew and ciabatta is not a thing! CHANGE THE MENU. It's false advertising if it's not just a temporary substitution! I would have chosen something else. We also ordered veg chilli which was just 'ok'. There are lots of good reviews for Nicky Tams but I wouldn't recommend it based on our experience. What a shame.

Me and my husband visited on 28th September 2024. We had just been to the castle in Stirling and after trying somewhere else and being told there was a wait we headed back into the old town and noticed Nicky Tams. The place itself is small but a very friendly atmosphere, we were just going to get a drink but decided on food and so very glad we did. My husband had the steak stew and I had a BLT. Both meals were fantastic compliments to the chef. The waiting/ bar staff were fantastic too very helpful and accomodating. I would recommend to anyone visiting Stirling check this place out you will not be disappointed. Would I go back in a heart beat.

This is a very atmospheric and lively pub in the middle of Stirling; the staff are friendly and there is a good range of drinks available. However, we were very disappointed with the food we had; my wife ordered the haggis but they had no mash and the haggis itself was a congealed mess of lumps; the "tatties" were chips and covered in salt; I had the fish and chips; the fish was fine but, again, the chips were way too salty and the so-called "mushy" peas were certainly not! I can't recall eating in any other outlet where they choose to ruin the food with too much salt during preparation rather than having condiments on the tables! Too much salt can be a serious health hazard for many people!

We were ready for some good traditional Scottish food after our visit to the Castle in Stirling and decided to try Nicky Tams bar which is the oldest one in the town. It's quite small inside but the staff and the food makes up for it. Downstairs was very busy so we ordered some drinks and grabbed a table upstairs where the server took our food order. It would be a shame not to have the traditional Scottish dish of haggis with neeps and buttery tats mash and it was served with a whiskey sauce. We had a portion of Irn Bru sauce coated prawns for a starter and my wife decided to try the whiskey flavour Mac n Cheese. It might seem a bit rough around the edges but it's got a good character to the pub and it's worth a visit.

Nicky Tams is a great wee pub. However, i was asked to cover up or leave when trying to order a drink despite being there for several hours un prohibited. I was wearing a Scotland football shirt. I did ask the bar member if a Scotland rugby shirt would be ok and was told it would. I find it disparaging that in a historic scottish city local stirling residents are made to feel unwelcome for a national jersey just because its the wrong sport.

When being asked, “What were you here for?” It was the food (haggis bites are amazing), the great pints of beer, the warm and welcoming bartenders (thank you to Harry, Grant, Ian, Ashe, Megan, and Lewis), and the cozy atmosphere and badass decor. I went back multiple times on my journey because I loved the ambiance so much! Also, the open mic nights and solo shows from Matt, Billy, and Raven were the perfect night cap to my evening. I lived like a local for 11 days, and this pub made quite the impact on my journey. Getting to hangout with the locals while soaking up the beauty of Stirling are memories I’ll treasure. Nicky Tams is a special place I’d tell everyone to visit at least once (especially at night with all the live performers or pub quiz events). One may be rubbish with trivia, but when you have a great partner, it turns into a lot of laughter! ;) I also had the chance to stay in the flat above Nicky Tams, and it was the perfect spot for this solo traveler. The bed was comfy and it was near everything you’d need like the train, grocery store, Stirling Castle, and all of the great coffee shops! Stop by Nicky Tams for a great bite to eat or to make memories with the locals or even the pub dogs. 11/10 recommend!

We have visited Nicky Tams on a few occasions previously, and dropped in again at around 8 pm on Thu 28 December. The place was nearly full. At about 9 a group of Neds came in (clearly invited) and started to set up for a Hip Hop open mic night. They were, allegedly, 'some of Scotland's greatest MCs' and, with that billing, I'd hate to see Scotland's worst. So, just after 9 off they went, dressed in their cheap track suits, nasal voices, with every other word - heavily accented - beginning with F, S, W or C. The occasional B. Poetry (a la Eminem) it wasn't. Straight Outta Compton it definitely wasn't! 'X has come all the way from Bonnybridge!'. Well, once we'd heard X we deduced he was more likely to come from Craiglang. We were in absolute tears with laughter (at them, not with them). One of the best laughs we've had in months. This was all being relayed by speaker into the upstairs of the pub where we were sitting, and by 9.20, once everyone had had their laugh, upstairs emptied bar one couple. As we walked out we noticed that downstairs had largely emptied as well. Clearly no visible management because they'd have been thinking 'why is everyone leaving (and therefore footfall and income going down)? Anyway, if you want a good laugh for 15 minutes on a Thursday night in Stirling then visit Nicky Tams. Take some handkerchiefs, and when you start laughing make sure they think you're laughing with them rather than at them!

It's probably a great little place for drinking, but to go here for food was disappointing. We ordered burgers that tasted like rustlers burgers, the side salad was 4 pieces of yellow tinged lettuce and the chips were burnt and felt like you were chewing on toothpicks. Booked here for lunch after reading rave reviews. (!)Hmmm, on entering it was a bit 'American werewolf in London'. Locals like a gawp. No warm friendly welcome, and actually thought about leaving, but then it was our turn and the barmaid was nice enough. The decor is dark, dismal and uninviting. Everything seemed clean enough tho. Food and drinks ordered. Pinot was very good. Hubby ordered scampi and chips. He said it was fair enough. Can't really go wrong with scampi. I ordered macaroni and really wished I hadn't. Totally not to my liking. It was quite dry and tasteless. I ate around 4 forks worth and couldn't eat anymore. I was so very disappointed. This is a personal view, some might love it. Thankfully it wasn't expensive and we paid the bill in full. I left starving. On any other day this review may have been sparkling as we love quaint old pubs. The wine was outstanding. We'd visit again but only for a drink and a pet of the very cute dog belonging to the barmaid

We received a warm welcome on arrival and seated with ease. There are a wide range of options on the menu. Repetiremos seguro!!

Nicky Tams gets good reviews on Trip Advisor, so on my 3-day jaunt north, I decided to call in for a beer. The front of the bar is dimly lit, which is fine and a good fire going. The bar appeared to extend to the rear of the property and upstairs space was also an option. It was a cold March Monday night, so not many people were out. I went to the bar to get a pint and the 7 people who were in the bar were all seated at, and around the bar. While I was being served, there wasn’t a soul who would move sufficiently so I could pay and retrieve my beer. A nudge got me enough space, but seriously? This isn’t any fault of the bar, but in every other howff in the City I visited, the locals were great.

We called in here on our first day in Stirling for lunch. The food was good and there was a good atmosphere. The locals were very friendly and helpful with advice on things to do and see. There was music on in the evening even though it was a Monday night. An excellent guitarist and singer. A really good place to visit

My wife and I enjoyed a great pub meal and a pint at this historic spot. The staff was very friendly and responsive. The local lager and brown ale were tasty as were our Mediterranean Salad and Mince and Tatties. A nice break from the "corporate" pubs elsewhere in Stirling.

We were recommended here by my brother who had visited the year prior. The haggis is beyond phenomenal. The bangers and mash were amazing! The atmosphere is friendly and homey. Staff are very kind and helpful. Dogs are allowed!!! Which makes me so happy to see. It’s a joint with a lot of history and we had hands down the best meal we have had so far in the UK

We went to Nicky Tams for dinner, had haggis, chicken balmoral and a very refreshing local lager. Prices are honest and the food is so good! The place is cozy. Plus the chef and bartenders were all so nice, would definitely recommend. It’s hard to make a tasty chicken breast and that one was exceptional, kudos!

I ordered a drink..which was poured in my sight... then the barmaid/waitress got distracted by a previous customer and disappeared... leaving me stranded... no apology.. no attempt to transfer my transaction to another member of staff... This was my first ever experience of such appalling customer care in a bar... simply unacceptable! Who is in charge of such a travesty who allows such badly trained staff. I suspect that my double whisky is still mouldering in a glass behind the bar?

Welcomed by very helpful and pleasant staff who were more than happy to help where they could. It was a big weekend with a lot of the menu sold out but the pies that we had were awesome. The kids were well catered for too

Just popped into this local hotel for a quick meal. It was warm, friendly and busy. The Haggis was not available so we had the homemade beef pie which was delicious and some local recommended whisky! Delicious meal and very reasonably priced. We sat upstairs as downstairs was too crowded. Upstairs was quiet and cosy.

I have enjoyed having a drink in Nicky Tams whenever I visit Stirling, the bar is quaint and full of character. You may struggle sometimes to find a seat but a must see when in town.

Popped in for a drink on our way back from the castle. Warm welcome and good beer. Don’t offer the barmaid a cigarette though as she’s trying to pack it in 😀👍

Piss poor service from waitress to start with, we had to ask the chef to call her upstairs to take our order and had to go to the bar to get our drinks, it wasn't very busy which made it worse. Also, why on earth they would serve nachos with burgers is beyond me but to not have any salsa to go with them is just a cardinal sin. Would not recommend, no2 baker street is much better.

Came here for a quick drink after visiting Stirling Castle. It’s a small (and relatively unattractive) pub with additional seating upstairs. They offer food but we didn’t eat there.

My husband and I stopped into this bar in Stirling for an afternoon meal. We both got the Chicken Balmoral with peppercorn sauce and mashed potatoes, it was lovely. I usually get chips instead of mash, but Nicky Tams do not do chips, but the mash was great so no complaints. Prices and service good too.

We picked this place as it had great reviews, I’m guessing these reviews were left by people who’d had maybe a few too many? We ordered the steak pie which was good, a panini that had rock hard chicken, macaroni that was runny and salty as hell, the nachos for starter had no sour cream as it was frozen? So we sent them back. Toilet seats were hanging off so rather than completely take them off they were teetering on the edge just for you to fall off if you dared sit on them. Bill was reasonable and just as we asked for it we turned to see the chef in the kitchen rolling himself a cigarette, lovely

Came here on a Saturday early afternoon for some lunch. The pub is very oldy worldy and is a very relaxed place. It was pretty quiet, which was just as well as it is not a large pub and there aren't too many tables. The staff were very friendly and we sat upstairs which was a lovely area.

Just had the distillery tour with the excellent Mollie. It couldn’t have been better and I know as I am a tour guide at another distillery. She explained the process expertly and we never felt rushed or pressurised. The three whiskies were a real treat, high quality and well presented. Huge thanks to a great experience and such a lovely team.
