Don't what hads happened to chip shop it used to be good gond down hill just had sur chicken Southern fried chicken the portion would not a fed a child then the tiny drumstick had no southern fried on it and other piece was no bigger then drumstick to be charged £4.99 was a rip off

Not sure where all the negative reviews come from - went last Friday night 16.02.24a round 6 pm and service was great - food was decent sized portions served with salads - tasted great - overall excellent value ! friendly service

Disgusting, the worst fish I have ever had in my life. Inch thick batter, full of bones, simply awful. Also the most depressing, dirty “restaurant “ I think I have ever seen. Gordon Ramsay needs to visit. Threw it away, £15 down the drain. AVOID!!!

Stopped last week for cheesey chips a1 this week tonight box of chips was half empty and cheese was a joke three grains of cheese it was gone before I drove to end of dual carriage way will not call again

We have lived in the area for 35 years and rarely have take out food, but we decided to try this place a month ago. When we entered it was quiet, about 4 or 5 people sitting down, we ordered fish and chips with a fishcake which came to whatever, then the lady behind the till asked if we wanted salt and vinegar. Always. But she then put an extra 10p on the bill to pay for it. I was floored, I had to laugh, I can't think of any other time salt and vinegar, a basic staple of fish and chips, has been charged. The chips were OK but the fish was a frozen fillet and they managed to burn it, so it didn't taste nice. Needless to say we will not be going there again.

Fish and chips reheated greasy mess. I went in at 2pm. Would not feed it to my dog. Even worse than the food was the customer service. They hung up on me when I phoned to complain! Nothing more to say other than what a waste of £8.70.

Huge portions of freshly cooked fish and chips. The place isn't in town, but was doing a good trade on my visit. I can see why.

Inside the toilets are awful the last visit they were filthy and a tap fell off the sink when my 7 year old went to use it. This time we got a takeaway and it was horrible the chips tasted strange the oil was strange tasting too it was like clean oil thrown onto old oil or into fryers that haven't been cleaned. This used to a top place to go to when it was newcott but since being prees it's gone dreadfully down hill. My stomach hurts and my son has now refused to eat here. He only had chicken nuggets and chips but he said the chicken tasted funny. I've told him not to eat them and they didn't taste strange. Definitely not going here again! Absolutely vile food!!!!

Poor quality food - chewy (possibly reheated) chips and scampi that was incredibly dry with very little actual scampi inside the batter. Will not be returning.

Went for a fish box tonight, disappointingly though went at 1720 and it would appear that the food is just reheated chips from this afternoon and fish that looks and tastes like it has been deep fried twice, most of the taste was oil that it was cooked in.

Awful food, over priced, poor customer service, on complaining about this informing man behind bar he denied the food was bad and that I’d been over charged and sad I was lying. Burger was dry, kebab had clearly been cut for hrs as dry and curled up, fish greasy and wet and chips omg soft greasy mess, give it a miss….

Excellent and tasty fish and chips. Reasonable price and polite staff. Would recommend this as a get place to eat

Stopped on our way home to Manchester ordered the fish box Fish chips mushy peas and curry and B a small sausage for dog It was lovely Chips neat I’ve had from a chippy

We had large cod, chips and mushy peas. I have to say it was amazing and the service inside was also excellent. Highly recommend.

We have called in twice for a quick, convenient meal when passing in recent weeks. Both times have been excellent. Not a place for a ‘fancy’ meal etc but excellent for what it is. Good everyday fish and chips and related types of food. Chips were superb, home made and cooked to perfection. The chicken, burgers and other choices all good and decent value for money. Staff friendly and courteous. The place was well kept, clean and tidy abs the service quick and efficient. A great asset to the area and much better value and quality than the place just up the road with that big yellow ‘M’, who seem to specialise in providing loads of packaging for their delightful takeaway customers to throw out of their cars in the countryside!

Had fish and chips and chicken burger and chips. The chicken burger was totally tasteless and the chips really greasy and hubby said the fish was really tasteless. Won’t be going back again.

Called into Prees Fish & Chips for the first time on the way home from Shrewsbury. Everything was cooked to order. Gotta say, one of the best fish and chips we've had in a while. The fish was well cooked with crispy golden brown batter (not the usual pale undercooked batter), chips were chunky and well cooked. Wife plumped for mushy peas, while my curry sauce had texture to it, with a lovely herby/sweet taste, again, not the normal pale runny, run of the mill stuff usually on offer (I've read a review on here where somebody didn't like this chunky, herby curry sauce, I say, why not?) The portion of chips was HUGE, and the following night we reheated the other half to eat with another meal, and reheated chip shop chips never taste good the day after, but we both commented on how nice they were 24 hours later! Not cheap but, to be honest, after visiting a local chip shop recently, prices are not what I remember, so I think this establishment isn't much different price wise than anywhere else. In a nutshell, great fish and chips and sauces, no complaints here, 5*

I ordered mixed kerbab meat on a nan bread, it was the worst meal l have eaten in a long time, the nan bread was stale rock hard, meat under cooked, it went right in the bin will not be going back here , and the meal was not cheap, and the member of staff was most unhelpful, and quite arrogant

Had fish and chips x2 small peas small curry in pots it was over £16 and it was horrible the fish was very small and grey inside very greasy the peas were i luminous green and the curry was like a disgusting herby Indian curry Chips weren’t too bad tbh with owning a chip shop myself I know what good food should taste and look like I know fish has gone threw the roof but if you invest in the best frozen at source Icelandic cod I’m sure you will get much repeat custom I can’t imagine many returning with the food at the moment

We ordered a takeaway when on holiday in the area. The app is easy to use and the choice of food available is huge, there’s nothing in the chip shop line they haven’t got. I went for haddock & chips. Masks must be worn on collection and there are good social distancing measures on site. The food was ready at the pick up time.My fish was okay but the chips were soggy, portion sizes are good to large and prices are reasonable.

We ordered take away online which was really simple. The food was tasty and the chip portions were huge!

Stopped on the way home from the NEC recently, hadn’t been for quite some time but nothing different from previous visits just good decent fish and chips. Very acceptable, they do a huge range of foods so you will always be able to find something you like. Certainly would call again if passing, not bad at all.

We had a fantastic meal here on the way up to north wales. Amazing portion sizes that were really tasty l. My mixed donner meat was phenomenal. The chicken appears made in house on a spit behind the counter. My partners COD was enourmous, thick and rather delicious. I doubt we’ll be back as we live 231 miles away. However if your in the area, just passing or local it’s well worth a visit.

Weve come here for a couple of years as our caravan is in prees, never ever had a fault or complaint. Great food great service. The breakfasts are quality as is the takeaway for tea dinner etc defo 5 star

I just ordered the most expensive fish ever,, 4..40 for a medim fish that was soaked in oil and tasteless. Avois at all costs.

We only discovered this restaurant about fifteen months ago, used it on two occasions after travelling home from Scotland. Excellent and extensive menu. Everything cooked to order, portions are more than generous. Friendly staff, table service. Restaurant is exceptionally clean. Toilet facilities are superb, better than any motorway services, and I have used facilities in very many service areas. Keep up the good standards. It was also nice to know that the potatoes they use are Shropshire grown and not far from where we live.

Fresh fish and chips every time we call in. Good size portions too. You might like to try the car wash to the side of chippie. Very good value.

We popped in here for a sit down lunch when on a journey to Cambridge. The location is very convenient next to the A49 road. Table service was efficient and the excellent cod and haddock was a generous size, properly cooked with crispy batter. Chips were OK nothing special. Service was fast although there were only a few people eating.Toilets are modern and were clean. Not exactly gourmet but fine for a meal on the go.

Called here at 6pm, the customers at the front of the queue were obviously not happy with the quality of food or service, they were seated, and asking where the other part of their order was, stating that two of their party had finished their meals, the other two hadn’t yet been served...man behind the counter was VERY VERY rude, told them to sit down and wait, nearly walked out, but with hungry children, decided to take a chance, wrong decision, our food arrived with items missing, sausages were inedible, when we forced a knife through them, the two parts flew in opposite directions across the floor, they were that dried, chips were completely cold when they arrived, then two of our orders were then swiftly taken from in front of us, and placed on the table that were complaining when we arrived.

Great service (Table service in fact.) We placed our order and food was quite quick in being sent out to us and it was of a high quality for fish and chips. My only criticism of the place would be that there is no Wifi

Stopped here with a family to break a long journey. Needed an easy restaurant-type food option and Prees came up. Good value, efficient service and great tasting freshly cooked fish and chips. Highly recommended. Will use again.

Called for take away tea after day out with friends wasnt busy but still waited 20mins 2 fish and chips 2 sausage chips chips were not very hot and very bitty fish was not best greasy. Staff were polite and helpful maybe was just off day .

we were staying on the canal and had our car so went along and bought a couple of battered sausage and chips. the size of the portions were huge and the quality was very good, so great value for the money

We had take away fish and chips on Sunday night and I must say they were very average, verging on poor. The chips and batter were soggy and not much taste to the cod. I was On holiday so I'm unlikely to go there again!

We have ordered three times from here now, and have mixed feelings about the place. I must say that each time we have ordered online via JustEat, there has never been a problem with the order and the food's been ready on time. As for the food, well, the first time we ordered food from here, it was pretty decent. I particularly liked the fishcake. If you order chips and gravy be warned the gravy doesn't come in a separate pot, it's put on your chips. I tried a sausage too, but I didn't like it. All in all I felt I'd order from there again, which I did, but the chips were horrible the second time round. I don't know whether they were the last of the batch but they were mostly inedible. The third and last time I ordered from there I tried pizza. It was okay - nothing special. The garlic bread was bland. I ordered a portion of chips too, to see if the standard was any better and they were edible this time round. I would say that if you're looking for a quick meal on your travels this place is worth a look. But if this place is your nearest takeaway place and you want a treat for dinner, I'd travel a bit further to get something tastier.

We called on a Friday evening when it was fairly busy. Two of us had cod and chips and I had plaice. All three meals were very nice as were the good coffees we had. Inside is spotless and we can definitely recommend it here.

Have visited a few times now and can't fault the service and the food , fresh, well cooked and hot , good portion size , the mushy peas are to die for 👍

We were travelling towards Whitchurch from Shrewsbury when we saw an illuminated fish and chip sign, we were both hungry, so we stopped for some.

As i am planning to live in the area, decided to try out the venue for its speciality. Busy evening, but well served and food came in good order. Very tidy place, great seating and ambience. Very pleased with the visit.

We have had a couple of meals with them, and they have been ok, not exceptional as some reviewers point out, just ok, for a fish and chip meal. As we were passing on Saturday last we thought right give it another try.

Been on number of occasions also had take out for mother in-law she says it's the best even though we traveled 20 mins before she ate it good value for money.

Called in when passing in a 8m long motorhome as they had good parking, but thats not the only thing the chips and fish were very good they also do pizza's and the rest... on site there is a small "corner shop" that was well stocked and frequently visited by the looks of things. its nice to get a well cooked and presented fish and chips and this place delivered it. you can sit in and eat or take away... Whitchurch truck stop is next to the chippy with parking for HGV's and larger motorhomes and caravans.

We have driven past this place a number of times, and always said that one day we would stop. Yesterday was the day. If you are on the A41 then don't go past. Between us we have a plaice and chips and small doner kebab and naan bread.Both were served by friendly staff in a reasonable time. I was once told that it was impossible to obtain fresh plaice in Wales, and if this is still so, then this must be one of the nearest. It was beautifully fresh and each meal was more than adequate

Now called prees Heath fish and chips. Called tonight for tea on our way home. Cod and chips was fantastic and good value for money and doesn't cost more to eat in. Daughter had mixed kebab meat and chips also really good value and really...

Uno de los mejores solla y patatas fritas que he comido. El pescado era fresco y grande con patatas fritas realmente bueno. Altamente recomendado!

Been here a few times always friendly efficient staff, can be very busy at times so waiting for food can be a pint or 2 waiting, ordering through just eat is a fantastic idea and we're just finishing the order as I got to the counter, excellent food once again!! See you again soon 👍🏻

Fuimos a Prees (Antiguamente Newcotts) pescado y patatas fritas @ la A41 en el rounderbout/49 carreteras al sur de Whitchurch. No estaba muy ocupado, que es ideal para ser honesto. El personal era muy amable y servicial. El servicio era excelente.

El personal es muy grosero, simplemente no sé qué decir a los clientes. Cuando pregunté me dijo que no importaba si comemos o no. . . .

Problemas crónicos con tramos de la A5 para conseguir cerrado cada noche me llevó a volver a casa de los Midlands por la A41 por primera vez en muchos años. Por consiguiente no reconocer o recordar que este lugar había sido el Pequeño Chef tenía recuerdos vagos era otro. hereabouts No importa - el restaurante de lujo del establecimiento estaba haciendo comercio estable a las 6 de la tarde y el llevar un poco más concurrido. Fui por un simple pescado, patatas fritas y guisantes estándar con té y pan y mantequilla. Todos buena, caliente y rápido, y un precio muy decente. Sin duda llamar de nuevo.

Excellent food, It may be a "Posh Chippy" but the food is fresh. The ambience is excellent and offers value for money.

Came for a chippy dinner twixmas time.The premises has changed its name but still exactly the same as previous time i was here and same staff etc. Nothing has changed bar the name.It wasnt busy so ordered quickly.The place is tidy with large car park and toilets for patrons.My friend had a cheeseburger chips and salad.I had chips donner kebab and salad which i regretted.On display was a large doner waiting to be cooked.Where my meat came from i dont know but was cold and very bland.The chips felt in texture as though they had been cooked a few times.The pitta bread was a nan bread so just broke up.So no.. it wasnt a pleasant meal.The cheeseburger looked freshly cooked.So no i wont be recommending it unless its a toilet break and have a cup of tea... but lynns cafe next door can support that break....

Here for our tea, alway nice and filling. Nothing fancy, but reliable. Lots of tables, and large dinning room. Theres a bar too if you want something harder. Good choice of meals, cooked to order with tasty gravy.

It took a while to find this on trip advisor because the name has changed. The photos posted of the outside show the old signage but you can see the garage next door, and the post code is the same.I tried post whilst I was there but gave up. Wish I took so new photos now.All the staff were pleasant, I was surprised they only did fish and chips, fried chicken, kebabs and pizzas, there is a potential to do other foods, like curry.The restaurant was very clean, and the toilets very nice. I ordered a take away.The food was freshly prepared, which resulted in a bit of wait, the prices where reasonable but the portions far to large. When I finished I was discarding more in the bin than the quantity you would receive to start with elsewhere.The fish was over cooked and dry, but the chips were spot on. I ordered mushy peas, which came in a small pot, which was not good value and wrapped separately.I suggest the owners invest in polystyrene trays, this would allow peas and gravy to be served with the chips, they also help with potion control and prevent oversized portioned. I ordered two lots of fish chips and mushy peas, the weight was easily over 5lb, and it filled a large brown bag. Cost £13.20

Stopped here on our way to Shropshire. We were amazed at the value and quality of the food in this little roadside diner.

Words fail me how bad this place is. The only plus point is it is clean . Turned up with only 2 other tables in use and a smattering of take away trade whilst we were there. Having ordered basic fish chips and peas for 2, we waited 25 minutes . Yes 25 minutes. The chips were undercooked as was the fish . Peas ok. The staff are sullen and disinterested . Compare to the truck stops 100yards away which are always excellent . I just don't understand why there is such a long wait to serve the food . Never again

We came here when travelling to our caravan. Service was good, food fresh and prices reasonable. The chicken kebab with chips, salad and nan bread was lovely. I have had it before and it has always been lovely. My son had a meat feast pizza and said it was very good. My husband had haddock and chips and reported that it was lovely too.

Always find it tasty and speedy service pie and chips are great the rest of the family had egg chips and beans which they said was very tasty we go to different chippys in the local town and this is one of the best

The quality of food has really gone down hill since we first started going here. The chips are always good as is the sausage but the mini fish has hardly any fish in it! Such a shame for somewhere that used to be very tasty!

Food was good ready on time but they didn't give me my can of pop with the meal deal so had to go to the shop to get one

Having tried my local fish n chip shop in Wem, which to be honest was very poor, I thought I would give this one a go as it isn't too far to get to. Wish I hadn't. The chips were ok but the batter on the fish tasted quite bitter and like the oil hadn't been changed for a while. It's a shame because it's a lovely clean place and with a good choice of foods to eat in or takeaway but I won't be going again. Disappointed to say the least.

We live about 2 miles from the famous Prees Truck Stop at the intersection of the A49 and A41 and one of the 4 or 5 fast-food restaurants is Newcott Fish & Chips. Quite a new build - the restaurant offers a wide selection of food from jacket potatoes to the traditional F&C's. What stands out is the quite smart table service restaurant area with licensed bar. Take-away also served. Toilets were exceptionally clean. I tried to convince my parter that this was her mid-week treat (for less than a total of £15 Inc drinks but not I succeeded:). Well worth a stop!

We diverted off the M6 to avoid "long delays" and ended up here for a quick meal on the way home to Cumbria. The food was fine but it did take a very long time to be served up which is surprising considering this is a fish and chip/ takeaway food place as well.

This is the third time that I have visited this establishment in the past 6 weeks. On 2 of these visits, I only wanted a small portion of chips. Each time, I had to wait over 20 minutes due to the lack of people serving and dispensing the food. By the time the food came along, I had lost the will to live. The system of order taking and food provision is archaic and whoever owns this business needs to wake up.

There is a comprehensive menu. The only thing I would add is Dandelion and Burdock. I had cod, chips, mushy peas and gravy. I really enjoyed it and felt full and satisfied after eating it.You can sit in or take away.I sat in and there is a bar. My father in law had half a lager.There is a shop and off licence too.There's parking and the takeaway side was steady.

Somewhat chaotic upon entry as a sea of bodies were waiting for takeaway but they do table service... and this way a server takes your order and it is a relaxed experience from start to finish.Great food and a good cuppa... added to a good pricing structure and lovely staff - we will be returning!

The diner is an old Little Chef place converted into a chippy.So yes it has good parking and toilets.There is plenty of room to sit and its clean...its the 2nd time ive stopped it as its convienient.Food wise the chips are nice. Pie was cold and the mushy peas was just green coloured juice with a few lumps in it.Its a shame really as it wouldnt take much to bring it up to par.I agree with previous reviews that the staff all appear miserable and never offer that warm smile.Re prices. The food thats up behind the counter is takeaway price. If eating in the prices are higher. So check.If you are stopping for a breakfast here etc i recommend either of the two transport cafes next door, lynns cafe and Midway Truckstop, which are fab value and selection.And have plenty of parking ...

Have never been here before and only went late mothers day as our usual chippy was shut and I must say we were very surprised!! It is extremely clean and well looked after with an extensive menu and amazing prices fed 5 people for just £16 with huge portions, the staff could do with chearing up abit but tolerated my bumbling indecisiveness very well!!! Will defiantly be returning!!!

I have visited this place happily for several years & the fish + chip based meals are fine once the staff have woken up which is normally a couple of hours after opening.Today I made the terrible mistake of going in 15 min after opening. Staff were half asleep very grumpy & sour faced.I ordered a breakfast from the less than clean table & waited some time for it to arrive along with my chips & Tea.It was awful when it arrived swimming in oil all over the breakfast & the chips were cold and very pale looking almost white ?When I complained they took my breakfast away microwaved my cold chips and then tried persistently to charge me for all of the bill even though they had taken it away. This got quite aggressive from manager & staff who were starting to gather in a mob trying to intimidate me. When this failed they to not to bother coming back.In my view do not go for a breakfast they cannot cook them properly & if you have you have to complain it will not be welcomed or taken constructively ego rules in this establishment & they are most def not awake at 11.15am if open.A shame as the place could be absolutely brilliant if it were not so complacent

Had lunch here on Sunday and it was fab very clean place and very friendly staff, lovey change from meat and 2 veg.

Great food great place for a motorhome stop over. A small charge to stop over. We had a chat with the owner and did not have to pay as we used his restaurant.

Staff never seem to smile. I think after all the years i've popped in here I have only seen the fryer smile at me. Always have a plaice cooked for me and they've never let me down. Brill taste. They have a full menu, clean dining area and WC, should you need to go as this place is far from the norm. Huge car park. Ideal for HGV - PCV. Good chippy take away or dine in.

Great food with a selection ranging from fish and chips, pizza, kebabs, burgers and fried chicken.We all had kebabs on naan bread with chips and salad. We were all surprised by the size of the meals they where massive and very enjoyable.The restaurant is roomy with many tables and your order is taken at the table if you eat in.You can also enjoy an alcohol drink with your meal as the restaurant is licensed.

Efficient service, but none of the people working here looked remotely happy. No sole (pardon the fishy pun). Both mushy peas and haddock, although huge, lacked flavour. Cafe air inside is a bit stale - and that is all the atmosphere it has. It lacks something.

Tried ordering on line recently, paid on line also. Food was ready when I got there,but they can be busy if you call in to order,and a lot of the God is cooked fresh,so ordering on line is a good plan. Portions are monster,if you're getting chips for 3-4 people then 1 large should be ample

Made my order and taken home, only to discover the order was completely wrong. After taking it back asking for a replacement which they did only after offering just to replace the missing items and when I ask for extra chips to replace the rock hard ones, I already had they had the nerve to try and charge me. Perhaps I should send them the bill for dental treatment I will need on Monday ! They really need to work on thier customer facing skills. Will be sometime until I visit again

There are two Newcott Fish & Chip restaurants. One on A41 Chester Road, Tern Hill TF9 2JQ and the other 9 miles away at Prees Heath, near Whitchurch SY13 3JT. They both have a 5 star Food hygiene rating. We use the one at Tern Hill on the way to relatives in the Midlands as it is in the country, whereas the other is adjacent to a large lorry park, other cafes and a pub. We have always found the food and service to be more than adequate. This time we each enjoyed the Cheeseburger Box at £3.50 - consists of 1/4lb cheeseburger with dressed salad and chips. There is a large car park (with no litter) and in one corner there is overnight parking and chalet-stay for two lorries. Whenever we call there are always 5 to 20 cars parked, proving it is well used. There is an eat-in area but we generally prefer to sit outside - some tables and chairs are provided at the edge of the car park. All in all a very nice fast-food outlet.

We have been here several times but will NEVER go back again. We waited over five minutes for the waitress to come and then she only came because I waved my arms to attract attention, none of the other four staff came over as obviously they are only allowed to bring food not take orders. When the food did come my husband went to shake vinegar on the chips and the lid fell off so vinegar poured out all over the chips making them virtually inedible, the waitress was stood there at the time and just said "oh". We should have asked for replacement chips but I expected her to offer. All 3 pizzas we had were overcooked. When I went to the till I said I didn't want to pay for the chips because of their defective vinegar bottle but all the waitress said was that other people had sat there before us. Which then as far as I'm concerned means they are at fault as they must not have secured it when refilling it. So she still charged me for the chips anyway. She asked if everything else was ok and I said "no the pizza was overcooked" which she ignored so why bother asking? We only ate the food because we were really hungry at the time and will not be returning.

We visited today for a meal to eat in, all was good until food arrived. The chips were hard and clearly not fresh upon complaining my friends weren't charged for there chips however I still was. I have ate here a few times and feel today's experience has put me off ever returning as there are more nicer fish and chip shops in town.

Been a number of times and never had a bad experience or less than perfect food! !!!! Had haddock and chips which was huge and my partner had chicken breast and chips staff are efficient and friendly and lots of seats in a very clean place

We have eaten here before but this time we finally agreed that we wouldn't bother again. The fish was greasy and the chips were undercooked. The service is ok, but the quality of food is not.

Whilst travelling back and to visiting relative in hospital we stopped here on numerous occasions for food.It is a real gem excellent take away food.The eating in area is really lovely nice decor spotlessly clean efficient and polite staff all dishes are served well and are great value.
