New World Takeaway in North Somerset

Just had a meal absolutely disgusting glanced over the counter it was all being cooked in the chip pan special curry nothing special about that just deep fried chicken and beef no prawns pork or mushrooms will never return again should be ashamed of themselves ROTTEN 😡

Really lovely takeaway, consistently excellent food, great choice on the menu and reasonable prices. Always greeted and served with a smile.

Except of grouse spring rools fool of sprouts and burnt prawn on toast best chinese ever. Half of toast were prawns but burnt a bit and bitter

If you’re after a Chinese meal in Portishead - or North Somerset - New World is the place to go. Food is plentiful, good quality and well prepared, service is friendly and they keep to their times stated at time of ordering. Highly recommend 👍🏼

So the team at New World are extremely efficient. It’s a family run business and Mr ‘New World’ is the person you will place your order with on the telephone. He will give you a time if you don’t say a time that you want to pick it up. The food is fabulous and I would not go anywhere else for my Chinese. One thing to keep in mind is they only have one payment type which is CASH. NO CARDS OR CHEQUES so make sure you go prepared. 👍🏼👍🏼

An absolutely appalling experience I have been going to this Chinese for a long time. We ordered via telephone and told it would be 25 mins. 35 minutes later I asked to see how the order was going, we haven’t received the order she said it would be another 30mins, no apologies at all. Disgusting service, I will never go back. Go to Wan Tu, the food was s better and service

Our favourite Chinese take away. The guy serving and answering the phone, always very polite. Food is delicious too. We had 8 dishes, 5 meats and 3 rice all for £43. Pretty good value these days. Under £11 a head for the 4 of us. Enough left over for re-heated lunch, Saturday as well. Almost as nice 2nd time round!!

My go-to. Truly the best, and will always make something to your specifications (me - I like actual spice, not 'portishead spicy'😂). Always friendly and high energy, and something I look forward to (probably too) often!

Ordered noodles, for the wife & kids and they got food poisoning just before Christmas

Moved down to Portishead two years ago from Scotland. Surprised to find there were only two Chinese takeaways in the town! Tried the Rickshaw one first. Dreadful. 1970’s decor, grumpy old woman, no sight of the kitchen, shockingly, bland food. Next time tried the New World. Much much better! Lovely chap, Jack, was very welcoming. I wanted to add some extras to my meal, no problem! Could see the staff cooking the meals. I’ve visited the New World every time since. Absolutely excellent, and they have a great range of spicy food. Superb, friendly service and a fantastic fish aquarium to watch whilst you’re waiting. And you don’t have to wait too long. Express service. I’ll be back. Keep up the good work, New World Folks!!

We have used the takeaway for the last 3 years and it's always been good, but our last take away was very disappointing. The beef in black bean sauce was cut so thick and was so chewy it was inedible. It was too late and cold to return it. Just wondering if the chef has changed.

Kung po chicken was very nice. But the egg tied rice was bland and seemed to be lacking any egg. And the beef with ginger and spring onion was shocking. Beef that a dog would struggle to chew no ginger and tons of what tasted and looked like normal onions. I will not be wasting my money there again.

Disappointing! Service excellent and really fast… but my shrimp chow mein was just a load of noodles with 3 small prawns (not shrimp) and 5 strips of veg. The veg spring rolls were 90% roll and 10% veg. New World used to be excellent food with bad service, now it’s bad food with excellent service. I won’t be using it again.

Was a great chinese.Haven’t used lately as I find the beef in the curry is fatty and chewy.Have gone to new century in clevedon as their beef is nice and soft. Shame.

Tried for the first time ordering Kung Po chicken. It was edible but fairly disappointing, more like chicken nuggets in sweet hot sauce with a few water chestnuts slices thrown in. I'll definitely try somewhere else next time.

The salt and pepper king prawn and Kung Po chicken are the best Chinese food I have ever had! Fast friendly service. Would recommend.

Didn't get to eat here because for some strange reason they do not except card payments.... Who would of thought in this day and age and with the pandemic going on.... Will not visit again as that is my pet hate..... Good way to fiddle the tax man too weirdly.

Great Consistent Food, A Family Friendly Team whom know their regulars and look after them. Definitely is my first choice.

Food not bad, a bit greasy, but that's typical of most Chinese takeaways. A shame, when we are made to wear a face covering, that the person at the counter wasn't and they only accept cash!

The worst food I have ever consumed. Nothing wrong with the taste but it gave all 6 of us who consumed the food severe food poisoning. I think this place should be shut down!

Great service always welcomed by my name when i enter. Been coming here for over 10yrs so food must be good. Fresh cooked food no microwave involved like some chinese take aways. Recommend for a great chinese. More than enough food for one, always piping hot. Staff and owners are always polite and happy when i enter. Cant understand on slow service comments i would like to see other people cook all that food in ten minutes. Not slow service at all. I will continue to eat here for as long as there open. Keep up the good work and the great customer service.
