I bought a steak pasty, hot and fresh and perfectly cooked. I've bought their loaves before and those are also brilliant. Everything is a little pricey but you have to pay for good quality handmade bakes which taste fantastic and are served with care and attention, and they can be fun as well

RUDEST MAN IVE EVER COME ACROSS. I have had better food at the market which is cheaper! Will not be going to this bakery again.

Wasted £3.95 on a pasty that I couldn't eat. Underside was burned black, filling tasted burned and was quite salty. Crimped edge was rock hard and inedible. Don't waste your money here.

I have attempted to buy a roll in this bakery twice now for lunch and on both occasions received the most appalling customer service from the guy that runs the place. I gave it the benefit of the doubt the first time assuming he was having a bad day. Unfortunately, today I got a repeat performance of his rude and arrogant behaviour. For some reason this guy has a real attitude problem and is a complete clown. I will never set foot in the place again and would recommend that you avoid like the plague.

Went into the shop as a friend recommended their bread. I tendered a £5 note in payment, was asked if I could pay by card but said I preferred to pay cash as it was a small amount The lady assistant with bad grace accepted my notice and gave change. I said if that was her attitude I would not going the store again The man in the shop said good her didn't want customers like me. With an attitude like that I am surprised they have any customers and suggest others do thevsame as me and boycott the place. Peter Scaife

I give them one star as the bread and cakes are good, but the sarcastic reception we received today was totally unnecessary! Arrived at the door at two minutes past 9, it was ajar and someone inside was being served, however there was a closed sign still up (their opening time stated 9am!). The chap being served walked out, so we decided they must be open but had not yet turned the sign around. We were then greeted with a sarcastic comment about the closed sign, and when we apologised and said we thought they were open because the other chap was in, we got more sarcasm that they do have friends and family….as if we should have known who the chap was. To be honest I wish I had just walked out, but was in such shock at the attitude, I bought the bread, left the cakes we would have bought and will never go back to this bakery again. Bought some equally nice cakes from another local shop in town, and got excellent service with it.

Went into New Street Bakery to get a filled roll and some bread. Went to pay by cash, but the man who just served me, was getting really shirty and said 'we prefer cards' I said I had the exact amount in cash AND pointed out that the last customer just paid by cash (and he never said anything to her). He said again they prefer card payments, I repeated myself, made my payment by cash (anyone would think I had paid by dog sh*t given the man's reaction), and left. Having previously shopped there, I will no longer be doing so! They have also got really shirty about cutting up the filled rolls in the past too. They fill their rolls with too much filling, so it's really mucky to eat! Good luck with your enforced retirement, as you will go broke with your stinking attitude!

Offer a good range of breads, pasties and cakes. Can highly recommend the spelt flour bread, it is really delicious. Also they have a range of pasties and all are very nice, however the traditional is hard to beat. They have a good range of cakes and my particular favourite is the Bakewell tart. We had French friends stay with us and they very much enjoyed the croissants and pain au chocolat.

Visited here today for the first time. The gentleman in charge was rude and unhelpful. He made me feel really awkward and unwelcome. There are PLENTY of good bakeries in Dorchester, I shall be avoiding this one from now on.

Having enquired at the door to see if the shop was open ( door open and signs out on pavement) at first I was ignored and then when I asked again was told in a shout it’s in front of your face ( door sign) it’s not rocket science…. Having asked why he was responding so rudely, he sarcastically replied have a nice day. Will never use the shop again and suggest that other friends and businesses I know don’t either. Shameful service in the heart of Dorchester. God help anyone who has an additional need or suffers from social barriers!!!

The food was ok, but the guy running it was incredibly abrupt and simply rude. He was rude to us, and then to the next group too. Just not necessary. Asked about fillings and got abrupt replies that were nothing to do with the question asked. Not at all helpful. I would not return

Small family run bakery that makes everything on the premises. Wide range of breads plus excellent pasties, sandwiches, and pastries. Pasties better and cheaper than Cornish bakery.

We have enjoyed our Saturday lunchtime treat here most weekends since it opened. A filled roll each and a cake to share. Today are regular order breached the £10 mark. (£10.20p) This latest sizeable price increase along with a graduate reduction in the size of the rolls and filling means we will no longer be using this place. We also don't like how they have recently decided to refuse to accept cash. We noted how rude they were to an old lady struggling to pay on her card when she had the correct cash ready in hand for her loaf. In hindsight, we spend less than a tenner on our pack lunches for work all week. It's unfortunate as the food is good but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Had a cornish pasty and a cheese and bacon slice, both hard and overdone crispy pastry. I think they had been sitting in the warmer for way too long. Sorry bakery but I wasn't happy and both items were thrown in the bin.

I used this place a few times after it first open and liked it. Returned last month with hubby on a Saturday morning and was left pretty disappointed. Prices have gone up and the only size roll available has shrunk. It was still a good quality roll with nice filling and fresh salad. The cakes are really nice but the coffee is pretty run of the mill machine dispensed stuff. To put it in context, 1 small roll, 1 slice of cake and a takeaway coffee was over £8! I know Dorchester is an expensive place but still, it feels excessive for a bakery lunch. Next time we will be trying when of there competitor's

Well it's clear to see why this bakery is so busy! Excellent artisan bread and cakes sold all day that are just simply lovely. He kindly baked me a one off chocloate birthday cake that was second to none. Friendly staff, great food, thank you very much indeed!!!Don't listen to the bad reviews that have been written by locals that try to chance parking in the private car park, who are clearly just bitter that they have been asked to leave.

A lovely little bakery and just what we need in our community. The bread and other produce is always fresh. The sausage rolls are so tasty and really reasonable in price. The best in the area by far. The service is friendly and they take the time to serve my wheelchair bound dad (who is a local ex chef) at the door as he can't get in. Good on them for going the extra mile !

They bake early each morning and all the bread and tray bakes are fresh. Difficult to choose what is best from Sourdough or Spelt - they are all excellent and keep fresh for days. Staff are very cheerful and helpful and you can watch them baking especially when they have a quiche order.

She even took our plates away while we were still eating avoid avoid avoid.

The perfect overnight stay in Dorchester, passing through. An excellent price. Central to all amenities, other pubs and nearby fish and chips and the river. Host, Chris, was welcoming and friendly and helpful when asking questions about the nearby areas. Our room was neat and well presented. Overall the atmosphere in the pub itself was friendly and warm. A classic pub and inn!

Visited the Fun Factory on a rainy day with my baby. To book in, other children in the waiting area were running into his pram. The gates were hard to open. Upon arrival, we were told, that the only available tables were upstairs and there was no lift! I had to carry the baby and pram up the stairs. Walking through the downstairs department was like trying to run through a jungle. We finally got to our table which was covered in what looked like chewed food and saliva and all over the chairs too. I am aware that soft play areas are noisy but this was more than that. I took the baby down to play in the under 3's section which was a tiny cage. There weren't many activities for him to play with. The baby mirror in there was dirty, the ball pit was over crowded. To get on the slide, it was a climb and with a baby, it proves impossible. Older children were coming in the baby section and scaring him and leaving the gate open which I was furious about. The sensory toys were broken. A 7 year old girl was in there throwing balls at him too and I had a go at her mum and told them to get out. I told a member of staff and they did nothing about it. He also had some lunch there which looked cheap and processed. You could literally see the fat dripping off it. You are apparently allowed to take the babies in the older children's play area but I was straight away put off when i saw the filth on some of the children's socks and the rate they were running around! In order to make this a better place you really need to add a lift, make a better play area for babies, get friendlier and more helpful staff, healthier food, clean the place and maybe even give it a revamp, buy more toys for the baby area and in general make it more appealing. Until Fun Factory up their game, I'm certainly not going back. Unless you want your babies to have a day of being in the worst play area of all time, don't come here!

Was all set to enjoy a coffee in my favourite Costa ( see review Jan 23 ) when I witnessed the best example of managerial skill I have ever seen . I imagine that the customer in question may have underlying social problems . He was unbelievable rude - over a cookie . The abuse that staff were subjected to because they had unfortunately sold out was totally disproportionate. Sir , get a life . Staff , well done for the calm and professional way you handled an extremely unpleasant situation !

I Had a family evening with cocktails to start, unfortunately they had not a clue how to serve or make these,by a friendly young girl, the food was the worst i have had for a long time, and although i told the elderly lady she seemed to listen but shrug it off with no effect, totally overpriced for what we had ,very small meals, missing the main ingredient FOOD.I hope they can improve and get a barman in to make the cocktails, they need to be shaken, not just pored!!
