Having attended a wake, at the New House, the following comments/observations are significantly impacted by the nature of the event. The food was a buffet, and not an extensive one. Location, layout, furnishings, cannot be faulted. Bar prices are quite high, as would be anticipated in an upscale setting. Car parking would be an issue, if the function/event is well attended.

Just had an overnight stay at this lovely very dog friendly place. From the start ( as we initially couldn’t find the place) staff can’t do enough for you. The room suited our needs as we had two little dogs (their first stay in a hotel) We were given choices where to eat as if we wanted our dogs with us that was fine and in a lovely room away from people who of course wouldn’t like dogs around at meal times- We ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious- very hot and tasty! Same for breakfast food cooked to order so just a little wait but worth it. The grounds were lovely and the view although it was cloudy promised beautiful views!! Would definitely recommend and hope to stay again if in the area.

For a Cardiff hotel, the location is stunning, on a hillside overlooking the city. We visited for the restaurant, and although the food didn't completely suit our tastes, it was good quality, well-presented and had unique flavours we hadn't experienced elsewhere. The ambience was great. We had a wonderful view from our window table. Everything made for a great night, but it was the staff who made the evening memorable. They deserve much praise for their care and attention, one in particular went above and beyond to make us feel welcome (I don't remember his name, but he took sets of photos for us...twice!). Please pass on our gratitude.

An outstanding experience on Christmas Day in this really special place. The menu choice was fantastic, dishes generous and full of flavour. Lovely, relaxed ambience and the service was seamless and excellent. We live locally and this is a gem of a place, outside of the city.

Fantastic location, views to die for, staff incredibly friendly, food better than some Michelin starred restaurants I’ve been in. Rooms a bit dated but super clean. I loved this hotel.

Location is gorgeous with views out over the city of Cardiff, function room was equally as nice with doors out to the patio area. We stayed at this hotel with my daughter and son in law last night in rooms number 15 and the duchess suite both rooms were very dated and the bathrooms can only be described as very grubby with woodwork that needed some paint, tile grout that was very discoloured with mould around the bath. Rooms need a serious amount of work to warrant the advertised 4 star rating.

Very happy we are that we booked our little wedding with you. Everything was perfect, bedrooms, function room, food, drinks. The Countess suite is amazing. Your staff deserve a separate mention, everyone we came into contact with was friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble, I know I will forget some names but Emily, Cath, Grant and Alex were really great. Our friends and family all had a fabulous time. We would certainly recommend your Hotel. We'll see you again soon for a few cocktails on the terrace!

We've stayed at this hotel on many occasions and can not recommend it highly enough! Last week we even got upgraded to the 'Honeymoon Sweet' for no extra charge! Breakfast was plentiful and staff helpful and friendly including the Director who stocked up the open fires with logs!

Another fabulous stay. The entire team here are warm, kind and efficient - the rooms super clean with the most comfortable beds and lovely bedding. We always sleep soundly here. Many rooms have lovely views out towards the sea over Cardiff - it was magical to wake up to this view. Big shout out to the awesome Evan and Alex! Evan was soooo helpful and kind and was able to help us check in earlier…and offered paracetamol when I had run out and kindly called me to check if I’d like breakfast when I overslept! A superstar! Alex also went above and beyond - helpful, kind and brought me mega strong tea , helped me out when I needed it and even shared her top tips for “over indulgence” Lovely hotel , lovely lovely people x thankyou all , Noreen & Caitlin

Room: the room was beautiful. We stayed in the Venetian suite, which was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfy and they had extra pillows in the wardrobe, if like me you can be a bit particular about pillows. The ensuite had a bath and shower. The shower water pressure was brilliant and the bath was a good size. Dining: the food looked lovely. For main we had the herb crusted lamb. This includes two small pieces of lamb, they were sadly very well cooked and very herb crusted - not to my taste. With so many good places to eat in the local area the food was a bit of a let down, especially considering the price. We were one of only two tables dining, so not much of an atmosphere either. This was unfortunately further impacted but the staff busily setting up for breakfast around us. As someone with sound sensitivities, the clattering of cutlery and sound of mugs being placed on plates was very off putting. Service: the front of house gentleman on arrival was very warm and friendly. As we're the bar and waiting staff. The service we experienced during the Saturday day could not be faulted. Room service is only available until 8:45pm and the bar is closed at 10pm. There is a lovely lounge area, where my husband and I sat, enjoying being able to sip nice wine (good selection here) and talk without the interruption of children. However, the night staff member was a stark contract to the friendliness of the staff we had previously encountered. I can only describe him as hostile. Another guest had returned from a function and asked if they could get some crisps or nuts. He sighed rolled his eyes and made it very clear she was in convincing him. He took a large jar of nuts from the bar and then returned with a small bowl with a few in. She asked if she could have more and was met with a sharp no, before he left the area. A few minutes later he returned, the other guest had gone to their room, he then rather sternly stated to us, from the door way that he was turning the lights off and locking the lounge area at 11. We went out to smoke at 10:35 to return a few minutes later to the lights off, doors locked. I felt like a teenager sneaking home. Just like that we are banished to our room. As a base to explore the area this hotel offers comfortable rooms and a good location. The breakfast was good (the poached egg was perfectly done). However, I wouldn't recommend staying here for the experience of the venue. I had wanted to visit for a while, thus we went for a birthday treat but I won't be rushing back.
