New Empire in Cardiff

Have been coming here for many years and is my first choice for this food. Great food and service, there is always welcome from staff and a quick service. Always consistent.

Had many a lovely meal from here in the past, sadly not tonight. The three dishes we ordered were tasteless, bland,runny, and cold,Chips were cold & dry. Unfortunately gone downhill.

Lovely staff, always a nice welcome, great food ...... our fave Chinese takeaway by far. A good menu offered and the food is consistently nice. .... never greasy or padded out. my fave is beef with green peppers and blacken sauce, ... if you ask you may get a little extra hot green chilli pepper added which is delightful.

Excellent, freshly cooked, tasty food. Staff are super efficient & friendly- it's always a pleasure to buy meals from here.

The woman on the counter started shouting at me because of her bad I English skills and she couldn’t understand what I was saying to her with a real rude attitude then charges me for prawn crackers £3 when they say £2.40on the menu.very rude service and wouldn’t ever go back and spend my hard earned money . I would not go there ever again

Excellent service and extremely tasty food - very authentic. The chicken chow mein and beef chow mein were both flavourful and cooked to perfection, not greasy. Brilliant service from Andy and Co, definitely recommend and would travel far to get there!

I was shocked, when I got my food home, that was not Chinese food at all, is was not even rateable, never again. You should be ashamed to even sell food like that. DO NOT USE GO ELSE WHERE.

Poor service recently and food was very mediocre sadly.

I never leave bad reviews but on this occasion I must. I just went into the New Empire to order food and looked at the menu to see what I could order. As required by Law, Natasha's Law, all allergens must be stated on the menu. They are not. There is a sign that lists foods people can be allergic to and says they are in some of the meals, If you have an allergy ask a member of staff for advice. Ok. So I ask " can you tell me which vegetable dishes have gluton in them" the answer was, "some do some dont" I asked for a pen so I could mark off what I could eat. She gave me a pen and just looked at me. A lady came in and she said " move away I have customer" Im errrr " what? " she again told me to move she had a customer. Well I am a customer! But I thought ok I dont want someones food going cold so I moved aside pen and menu in hand and waited. She served the lady and then just ignored me. She shuffled paper, picked things up put them down and refused to look at me leaving me standing infront of her feeling very uncomfortable. More customers came in and she happily served them. At which point I said " i'm sorry to of troubled you" and left. That is disgusting customer service by any standards.

Always had hot, tasty food from here. Good portion sizes and reasonable prices.

The staff used to be kind and friendly in here. Not anymore. I guess there under new management.

By far the most fantastic Chinese take away in Cardiff. The vegetarian dishes are exquisite - I have the vegetarian sweet and sour chicken and feel like I’m eating the real thing - I don’t miss out in anything. The egg friend rice and soft noodles are also top class.

Good Chinese, fair prices. 'Meal for two' offers (e.g. dynasty) will serve 4!

Vile!!! Rude lady serving, chips were dry and disgusting. Chicken balls had disgusting thick greasy batter on! Couldn’t eat it. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

My first time ever here,I just got home from there with Chinese food, opens its up dishes it out bites into the chicken skewer and it was RAW RAW RAW chicken absolutely wrong 😑won't be going back there again

Friendly staff and quick service. The food was really good as well as the portion sizes. We are definitely coming back here again to try some other options from the extensive menu.

I ordered The following meals: Chicken foo young The foo young wasn’t evenly cooked. The eggs were still runny in the tray. Special Fried Rice 4 pieces of chicken and even less pork. Tasteless and bland. Despite me asking for no prawns they included prawns. One of my guests has a fish allergy. Around 10 peas included in the rice. Tasteless choice. Beef Chow Mein Only a dish of onions noodles and a few bean sprouts. No other vegetables at all included within this chow mein. There was only about 6 pieces of beef but the dish was very salty and dry. The worst chow mein I have ever tasted. I don’t know if this takeaway has changed hands but the meal was sub standard. On,y vegetables that were used were onions and frozen peas. If I could have given this place no stars I would have done so. I would give this place a wide berth.

Got a takeaway from here & firstly noticed the excellent precautions put in place - yes you had to queue but they have a 5 health & hygiene rating which is reassuring. We didn't have to wait long considering we hadn't pre-ordered. Food was reasonably priced; lots of it; wide choice of menu and tasted lovely and fresh. Staff were working tirelessly to complete orders on time & judging by the constant stream of people turning up, it didn't seem to disappoint!

What happened? Most recent reviews describe this as a great place to get a takeaway. Maybe the usual cook was laid up with something but our takeaway last night was a dreary miserable offering. Cantonese people have a word for the sort of food that you get in British takeaways, lup sup. It's food that's either been though up to satisfy British tastes or real dishes that have been modified for the same reason. I like it. I really love Szechuan Chinese food, it's hot and challenging, full of texture and mad flavours. Cantonese takeaway is plain but comforting because it's what we've grown up with. It can be done really well if the cook and owners actually care, but the New Empire failed in this regard. The best that I can say about this food was that it was hot. That's something guess. If it had been lukewarm it would have been a disgusting, greasy, tasteless brown mess. Horrible.

Went here as much normal Chinese was closed . Mandarin house. However I'm so glad I did as our food was gorgeous. Chips , sauces and egg fried rice all fantastic . Will definitely recommend and be back myself ..

Visited this Chinese for the first time last night. We were very impressed. Food was all piping hot and delicious. Will be back very soon

Great customer experience here today. The food was excellent the price was very reasonable and the service was warm and friendly. I called up, and explained I was vegan and asked probing questions about the ingredients... as you do... the lady I spoke with was extremely conscientious and I was suitably put at ease. I will definitely be coming back.

Not been here for many months not by choice but unable to do so - people say one Chinese is as hood as another - but whilst thats possibly true for some - it's not true gor New Empire. Everytime it's head and shoulders above others - food always tasty with fresh products. Yummy !

The staff are lovely and food fantastic what else can I say.

It was awful...my king prawn chow mein was bland and truly awful...waited ages as they messed up the order. Wouldn't recommend it tbh.

Busy and friendly. The food is tastey and freshly made to order. The menus above the counter are relatively simple. Note the vegetarian choice is limited and the section for them also lists some non vegetarian dishes

5* Chinese takeaway. Great friendly service and fantastically cooked, very tasty food. The food is always ready in 20 minutes and they often hand out the odd freebie like fortune cookies or calenders around Christmas time.

Disappointing- cheap fatty cuts of meat, tastless sauce, rice fried many times over, mix up in order (please check before you leave) 2 stars because the staff were friendly.

The food tasted ok. Very disappointed with the special fried rice. No egg and 6 prawns in 2 portions that were ordered, also very little duck in the duck and beansprouts. I will go elsewhere in future

Used to be a favourite but stopped going after it changed hands. Cheaper ingredients cooked less well with smaller portions. Shame.

Best takeaway Chinese I've found in north Cardiff - delicious food, short wait and 5* hygiene rating.

New Empire has been in this spot for as long as I can remember, I've recently moved back to Whitchurch and been here several times for takeaway and it's been good each time. Most recently we got the veggie meal for two, the veggie chicken balls and spring rolls really tasty! They're old school in that they're not on just eat (or even deliver) but they're a great local chinese, and they have a 5 star hygiene rating!

Love the food here, I love the odd Chinese takeaway and will always come here to satisfy my craving! Staff are so friendly and the food is always amazing.

This is a great chinese takeaway. Staff are friendly service fast, but, with no lack of quality. My favourite 2 dishes are. Crispy duck in plum sauce, and, deep fried shredded beef, with, or, if you prefer without chilli.

1 of the worse ive had egg fried rice tasted plain beef in oyster sauce tasted like gravy creamy garlic chicken might aswell have been soup chip's hard and special chow mein lacked flavour overall i wont be ordering from here again gutted

ordered crispy beef and egg fried rice, it was ready in 10 minutes, which means its not cooked freshly, definately not fresh, rice was a very dark brown possibly refried. Crispy beef was not fresh and rubbery, reheated from before I guess, had an eftertaste. The takeaways seem to be hit or miss and im going elsewhere now.

The food is good and fresh at least but the sweet and sour chicken is often over-fried and a bit too "battery". The service is great though and menu is vast enough to offer all taste-buds something to savor.
