Food is always really good but don't bother with delivery on the weekends.. over 2 hours for delivery. Pick up or don't bother.

4/01/24. Had problem with food I ordered tonight. The food here is a waste of money - dishes were always cooked with too much salt, when I asked for less salt, the food was then overdosed with too much soy sauce and msg; food also cooked with not enough sauce, when I asked for more sauce, I got more water (a watery dish) not more sauce. Woman on phone trying to make excuses for all problems. Asked to speak to manager or owner, was told by the woman answering the phone she was the manager, don’t believe that, she was too unprofessional to be a manager, anyway, I wouldn’t have her manager of my business. She proceeded to have a conversation with chef in Chinese about my grievances and started laughing down the phone, telling me the chef said I should compare the food with other takeaways ( I already know how the food should be cooked by a proper Chinese chef.) When I told her this she said I should use another shop, the chef don’t want to cook for me anymore. Just a warning to all customers, this shop think it’s funny they got a chef that’s messing up all the dishes, and are happy to take the customers money for food that isn’t cooked right. When you complain, this is their response instead of recognising what’s going wrong and making any effort to get it right. May as well throw your money down the drain.

We’ve been here multiple times now as it’s our local Chinese and never had any issues, food is always hot and tasty and the vegan dishes are great, the shop can be busy on the weekends but that’s always going to be the case with a good Chinese takeaway

Waiting over 2 hours for delivery to arrive only to find out delivery was incomplete! Very embarrassing when you have friends over for dinner!!

our fave so far , good size potions , always consistent and fresh and yummy so far as i ordered a good few times now , i would highly recommend .

I definitely recommend this place, it's my go to Chinese takeaway and the Peking ribs are just beautiful. Want to treat yourself, this is the place. Easy and quick service, student discount if you pick up, what more can you want.

Food is amazing every time the set meal for 2 is a bargain lots of flavour. I highly recommend the only thing that needs improvement is the curry sauce

Classic British Chinese takeaway, all the usual suspects cooked really nicely with generous portions. Great for a family dinner or fat "bar stewards" (like me) ;D

We always order from here but do it through just eat this time we rang up but this time the food came stone cold so sent a message through website directly as couldn’t eat food but had no response gave them opportunity but nothing so rang them tonight been told there’s nothing they can do because I never rang shop appalled at this shocking customer service as I told them where they delivered and they had my phone number won’t be ordering from here again

Never order a delivery. Ordered at 18:20, delivered at 20:10, stone cold. The poor driver had over 5 deliveries to do and mine was the last on the list. Rang to complain and I was basically called a liar by the very unhelpful woman on the phone. Waiting for the cold meal to be collected and a full refund at 20:39. Would not recommend this service. Food is good but collect only.

I spent three years of my university life here and the takeaway from this place has always been one of my biggest comfort food. The food here has been officially acknowledged by a fellow Chinese as heartwarmingly authentic.

Just finished my food and I have to say it's some of the best Chinese food I've ever tasted. Will definitely be using in their delivery service again which was first rate. Can't recommend these highly enough worth every one of the 5 stars

I’ve been ordering from this takeaway for the past 10 years, it’s been my go to for Chinese takeaway, the past year or so it hasn’t been the same, no prawns in the special fried rice, more fried noodles than mince in the lettuce wraps, no squid in the salt and pepper squid, just little things I started noticing, now my worse fears have been confirmed, it’s been taken over and it’s no where near the quality it once was. It pains me to say it but this evenings Chinese will be the last, after 10 years of Chinese food content, I’ve got to go through the long process of sampling the different Chinese takeaways in Cardiff to find one that comes close to the establishment Fortune house once was. RIP.

I've been a few times to get the set vegetarian meal. The staff have been very nice and portions generous. Extremely varied mix of vegetables and depth of flavor that is appreciated :)

Was given a 30-40 minute expected time, this was then pushed back to an hour when accepted by the restaurant, and then pushed back a further half an hour, I can understand the initial expected time being pushed back and fully accept that but to then be delayed again, this is not good enough.

It's been a while since we've order but what's happened? The food wasn't great, Special fried rice had so much salt or MSG. The crispy beef had a very sharp taste so we guessed you're not using fresh chillies anymore as they were pickled. Also, prawn crackers were stale. Food quality has dropped but service and delivery time was good.

You need to be more specific about your salt & pepper chips from now on. I did not realise that you meant there were red,green peppers & onions in the box with them. I did not enjoy them, a total waste of money for me.

Really enjoyed the sweet & sour chicken & it was nice to find somewhere in Cardiff finally that does squid! The chow mein was a little bit sloppy but very tasty. Will order again

Family birthday celebrations! Recommended by friends . Chose to order online as advised the service was quicker. However was unable to process payment and had to contact and payment was taken over the phone. At this point I asked how long the delivery would be due to family arriving and advised an hour. However the lady kindly said she would have a word with the kitchen to help speed it up for us . Great! The food order was place at 7.15 so advised family to arrive for 8. There was no sign of the food so rang to see where it was. Advised the driver was on his way. Rang again at 8.50 and advised the driver was on his way ? Rang again after 9.00 ... the driver was on his way so remained on the phone until it was stated he was outside. This is now 9.15... 2 hours since placing the order. The driver was rude, arrogant and sarcastic !!!!!!!! The food was semi warm and very disappointing. Contacted to complain about the service, the appalling attitude of the driver and the food was not to standard. Requested a full refund or provide fresh hot food within half an hour. Also for management to address/apologise for the shocking behaviour of the driver . This was declined but would call us back but advised not to eat the food!!! They did call back and offered refund as they couldn't provide the order again! Agreed and asked about the driver .... nothing to be said . The call ended abruptly. This is 10 o'clock , we are hungry and had to heat up the food. This was an appalling service from start to finish . The positive is the food order was correct. Will not order food from this restaurant again ,deeply disappointed with the customer service

Really disappointed. came over two hours after ordering and was cold.

Food was nice enough but very disappointed in it being delivered over an hour late - 2 calls to the restaurant and was told 'its not our fault''. No apology from the driver either when it eventually arrived.

Disappointing, the food was 30 minutes late, when the restaurant was called all they said was "it's on its way, bye" and hung up. Once it did arrive, the driver didn't knock on the door, and the driver didn't say anything he just thrust the food into my hands and left. The food was so-so, and one of the containers had leaked in the bag. Pretty disappointing.

Havent eaten there since it was a restaurant and really miss that. Takeaway was just as nice though!

The food wasn't as good as i use to be from this restaurant. The noodles in the stuffed lettuce rolls where dry and hard. The duck was over cooked and dry. The fillet steak had 4 bits of small steak.

Not tried this takeaway for a very long time, since it was a restaurant . Lovely food , probably the best takeaway chinese i've had in a couple of years to be honest . Fresh and very tasty. Will be back.

Just ordered from here this evening. Never got to try the food as the delivery driver was INDESCRIBABLY rude! Snatched the money out of my friends hand and started to storm off without giving us change. Total amount was £29 we gave him £40 and he proceeded to THROW 50p at us! Stating he was annoyed because he has 6 six children. 1. Not our problem 2. No need to be so rude when you are in a customer facing role. We called Fortune House to complain who advised they will "talk" to the driver. We of course, took our £40 back and left the food with the driver. Needless to say we will NEVER be ordering from here again. We weren't expecting threat with our order!

The food was good. Delivery was on time. But we expected to get at least some plastic cultlery or chopsticks inside.

My new best Chinese. Fresh crunchy veg and tasty. No Chinese thirst or headache after which Shows is all fresh ingredients. Portions massive. The set dinner for two could feed 4 and is delicious

Worst Chinese I've ever tasted! Absolute dog food!

Overall the food wasn't up to our expectation. The duck in plum sauce was great, but the rest of the food was just okay, the chicken chow mien in particular lacked flavour. Delivery time was good though!

Every time I usually order from here it's often10/10 but today it was awful. It took over 2 hours to be delivered, so the food was cold. Then the delivery guy spoke poor English so couldn't give us change- not that he had money on him to give us the right change.

Fab, so tasty. Sorry other plans next two weeks so see you after that. The satay dish we had the other week wasn't very peanut tasting which was a shame. X

Always use Fortune house for Chinese. Lovely food

Food was very disappointing. The vegetables in oyster sauce was pak choi blanched in a brown watery liquid that didn't taste of anything, the sweet and sour was just vinegar, and the duck in plum sauce wasn't in plum sauce. The fried rice wasn't fried, come to think of it. I won't be ordering from Fortune House ever again.

Pretty standard, but I've had better. Had a free fortune cookie which was very kind. Would order again for the lower cost, but if I can afford the £3/£4 extra I'd go elsewhere.

The food was very good except the chips. They had been cooked and reheated I guess. They were crunchy and hard unfortunately. Otherwise a good meal.

AVOID AVOID AVOID at all costs. Appauling customer service and mediocre cold food. For my wife's birthday we ordered a meal at 18.15pm and finally received it at 20.10pm after numerous phone calls. Due to my job I work long hours and see very little of my family. As this was a special occasion we had a supposedly treat tea with my two young children. We were originally given a delivery time of 19.10pm, then we received an email stating this would now be 19.30pm. The delivery time came and went still no good. My wife contacted the fortune house and after some considerable effort we were told it would be 10-15 minutes. At 19.50 there was still no sign so my wife called back and was told any minute now

Unfortunately, this is the second meal in a row from Fortune House that we have been less than satisfied with. Some of the dishes were cold which meant that we had to heat them up, and the beef chow mein was pretty much flavourless. Literally, zero taste. It's a real shame too as we've had, up until recently, nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. We'll probably give it one more go (because when it's good, it's really good) and hope it's just been a temporary blip in the kitchen. If not though, we'll be looking for an alternative.

Very unhappy with how long this took and, to top it all, there were prawns in my supposedly vegetarian soup.

Delivery was 6:35 which changed to 7pm the food finally arrived at 7:30pm. When we phoned to see where our delivery was the member of staff was rude and unhelpful. When the food arrived the chips were not cooked properly

Food was 1 hour and 20 minutes late

Very poor service. Ordered takeaway at 8pm. Message received saying that restaurant had accepted order but added 35mins to delivery time making it 9.10pm. Order actually arrived at 10.25. Delivery man was very polite and apologetic but restaurant were no so sympathetic when we called to complain. Would appreciate our money back.

Website said 45-60 mins delivery time, however restaurant changed this to 85 minutes after we had placed order. The food was then half an hour later than that. Really nice food, just took far too long to get here.

Food was lovely and delivered well ahead of the projected time. Used to use this when there was a restaurant, will likely use agin.

Dumplings were ok but chicken was hard and crunchy. I ordered above 25 pounds and I did not receive the Coke advertised. Very disappointed. Don't order or you might have the same experience.

The food was cold by the time it arrived, 15 minutes late. There was food missing. And the portions were rather small. It wasn't overly nice And I will not be ordering from this place again.

Waited an hour and a half for food?!

Worst delivery driver I have ever come across! Refused to deliver the food to the building, refused to leave his van unattended and even offered a tirade of verbal abuse over the phone! I frequently use fortune house but after waiting 2 hours for my food, for it to arrive luke warm and having to have 3 arguments with their incompetent delivery driver i shall never order from them again. Word of advice, if you live in a flat or apartment find another takeaway!

TL;DR Classic Fortune House. Longtime eater, first time reviewer - I have a usual order from Fortune House, Chicken Wings, Singapore Noodles (or vermicelli or whatever, they're both on there) and some egg fried. I had company this evening so we ordered more, but I still wanted to order the usual... Made the order, food came - pulled the food out the bag. Here's where it changes gear - we'd ordered too much. Far too much. Such portion sizes. I'm no longer the takeout junkie I once was. Only a small fix can have me sated for weeks now... Anyway, the food was good, came in standard time, thoroughly enjoyed. You've been wonderful at reading this review. Congratulations. I mean it.

I'm allergic to peas so I told them very clearly no peas. So I get peas and so food I can't eat. Cheers.

Friday night, traffic around Cardiff appalling ! Rang the Fortune House for a takeaway. Charming lady took the order, Salt and Chilli squid, prawn toasts, lemon chicken, Szechuan duck, egg fried rice, complimentary prawn crackers. We live over four miles away, but we were given a forty-five minute delivery time, and it was. Amazing. The meals were superb, however, if, like me, you compensate on restaurant descriptions, don't, if they say hot and spicy, they mean it! The portion sizes are large, I think I may return to my youth with Chinese leftovers for breakfast !!

Went to wrong house arrived late and cold lemon on prawns made the batter Sogggy not as good as it normally is especially for the price of just short of £70:00s

lovely food x delivery takes a while but we were willing to wait! Charged £2 more when delivered than stated on our order summary...which was weird!

I was given the wrong dish, ordered beef with broccoli but in reality was with cashew nuts, but was lovely for all that (wld still have preferred dish I ordered though). All dishes were beautifully cooked, almost restaurant quality. Very good.

Ordered a takeaway for a 7 o'clock delivery just after 5pm,it arrived an hour late and cold!!Lettuce wraps tasteless ,juice from spare ribs had run making prawn toast and spring rolls soggy...£45 down the drain!Called to complain was offered 10% off my next order...not good enough won't be a next order.Not the first time I've had a bad experience but definately the last,never had such bad service,if they couldn't deal with my order why take it or if they had a problem why didn't they call....a delivery shouldn't take 3 hours.

My only complaint was the waiting time for delivery which was an hour originally, and then got re-arranged by Fortune House for half an hour later again. And then, it turned up twenty minutes late after that. So, all in all, we waiting around 2 hours for food. Having said that, it was peak time on a Saturday so what can you expect? And, the food was amazing and more than satisfied our rumbly tummies when it came!!

Food was cold. I love garlic but all of the food had way too much garlic in it.

Delivery was longer than estimated, also ordered chips expecting normal chips with a note made for salt and vinegar on them, the chips that came were garnished with chilli's and inedible if this is how the chips come then it should be stated on the menu, but the rest of the food was nice

Food took well over an hour to arrive and when it came they had cooked beansprouts in with my noodles which I clearly asked them not to do as I dislike them to the point it makes me not want to eat my food. Disappointing

I ordered my food to arrive at 7.15. At 5.52pm I missed a call off them, and they called again at 6.41pm to say that they had been to deliver and were back again to try again. I wasn't in the first time-as I ordered for 7.15pm for a reason. As a result of this, the food was not warm and I had to heat it up myself, which really took away from the convenience of a takeaway. Having previously ordered from here regularly, this experience really disappointed me and will make me think twice before ordering from there again.

Excellent takeaway - Chinese can be so greasy and this wasn't at all. The crispy duck arrived on the bone which was a nice touch, and the duck spring rolls were stunning.
