Neptune & Prawn in Coleraine

One of my favourite restaurants in Northern Ireland. Always amazing food and great service - very reasonable priced. Drinks are delicious too. Lovely views too.

Absolutely love it here, especially on a Friday when they do their £5 deal upstairs. They do fantastic cocktails which are so delicious. The food is very tasty and the portion sizes are good. Definitely worth a visit.

Honestly everyone in the party was 22, and the bouncer asked for our passports. We went for dinner and it was honestly below par. I will never return to this place and I hope they improve on the customer service which was appalling.

I visited for a few drinks with my friends, despite being well into our twenties and clearly of age, Sherlock Holmes’s on the door decided our ID’s were fake and hassled us, threatening to keep them despite being real. This alone would put me off returning and I was advise that the owners replace the security detail present on Saturdays nights. Staff and service inside the bar were great, very let down by the incompetent bouncers.

Bouncer was very difficult with getting in, despite the group all being 21. Rude staff, foods great but door service poor, wouldn’t be back in a hurry.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Neptune was downright frustrating and disappointing. My friends and I were excited to visit, but things took a turn when we were refused entry despite all having valid, government-issued driving licenses. The staff claimed one of our IDs was "fake," even though it was clearly legitimate, and they didn’t even try to clarify or verify the details. We were treated like we were trying to sneak in with fraudulent IDs, which was incredibly insulting. It’s baffling to me that they would make such an assumption, especially when we were all respectful and following the rules. This type of poor customer service, especially based on a mistaken judgment, is unacceptable. Needless to say, we won’t be returning, and I strongly recommend anyone planning to visit ensure they’re prepared for unwarranted scrutiny. Extremely disappointing experience overall.

Me and me family went for dinner my 24 year old son got questioned and almost denied with his ID. When I attempted to interact with bouncer he told me let me do my job. The food was extremely average. However we had a good experience in the harbour after our meal all staff was friendly and very inviting, I would suggest the harbour before ever going here.

Brilliant food service great atmosphere is great

Went there with my wife and a couple friends and it was a very disappointing visit… The food was not great for the price they charge. We ordered a sweet and sour chicken, a satay prawn, a side of fried rice, noodles and chips and two cokes. The portions were ridiculously small and the flavor was very bland for the price they charge. For that we paid a total of £65.90 FOR 2 PEOPLE. That is ridiculous since you can go to far better places for literally half of that. The service was fine, polite and helpful employees.

Food was good. But the biggest issue was an infestation of Fruit flies. I would not normally post something like this but it was really bad. They must have a bad hygiene issue.

We just had the worst meal, The service was shocking the server didn't know the difference between chicken satay and Kung po chicken, and served us the wrong plates, the meals were so strong they were uneatable. We had poppadoms and dips as a starter the dips were horrible. It was so disappointing we used to eat here 4/5 times a year, I don't think we will be back.

Lovely food very small portions. Portions don't match the costly price

Very very noisy place i had such a headache when i left the place.the prawns where beautiful.but the chicken chow mein was so very overpriced as was all the food. and to be honest it dident look like chicken the pieces where so tiny.and to be honest the chicken tasted sour.i left most of my meal on the plate.and when the waiter came to clear the plates i wasent even asked why i dident eat my meal.he took the plates away and brought my meal back to the table in a plastic tub which i binned when i got home.i dont recommend this place.

Third visit! Need I say more! Food and service has been first class every time! Have to admit the portion sizes are a big too big for me but there's nothing worse than leaving a restaurant hungry lol

I ordered Chicken Biryani and I received it with sticky rice probably not Basmati. Well below even take away standards never mind for a sit in restaurant. Don’t go there and waste your time and money.

Upon arrival we had been told 45 minutes for a table for two which was fine, took 90mins and we only got a table when I raised the point we had been waiting so long and could see several tables for two empty. Drink orders took forever when they got them right, and the food order that came to our table was wrong twice! On the third attempt they finally got it right (45 mins after we had been seated) food was fine, just an average portion not what you would expect for the price. Shakin (chilli) beef with chips and mayo dip came to £26!! and with a gin at £6.50 plus your mixer it was far from reasonably priced! Overall we left pretty f**ked off and even the complimentary cocktail vouchers that was offered wasn't enough to keep us there any longer. Waiting staff and management overhaul long overdue. Been dining at the harbour complex restaurants for years and after the past few very disappointing visits I can honestly say my family and I won't be back in any of them. UPDATED REVIEW: Been a few times since my last review as i had been told it had improved and was as good as it used to be, had to give it another go!! I have to say the food quality was excellent again, on each visit everything was beautiful and the quick reliable service has returned, back to the way it should be. The price point also seemed to be much better and the large portions made for much better value. Great to see things have been turned around, long may it continue.

Started with the crispy halloumi and followed it with the lamb shank biryani. Both were delicious. Not the sort of biryani I expected as the curry sauce seemed to be Chinese curry, but it worked really well and is something I’d try again. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender. Would have had five stars if there had been an IPA. Lager has so little flavour.

The food was absolutely delicious and well presented. Between five adults we had four different starters and five different mains and everyone commented on how tasty they were. Nachos, Merlot beef and Shakin’ beef highly recommended. As Arne says, “I’ll be back“.

The food was very tasty, but with little attention to attractive presentation or extra trimmings. Prices were quite high, considering there were no vegetables included, or indeed offered. Service was quick and efficient, but so quick you could feel that you were being rushed. Only restaurant I’ve ever visited where the waiter said they’d fetch our bill while we were still drinking our coffee 😂. Total time in restaurant 55 minutes for drinks, a main course, desert and coffee. Not entirely a relaxing experience.

Not very good, the beer wasn't good and if you are going to charge over £20 for Indian food make sure it's freshly cooked to Indian standard but upstairs cocktails were good was the only good part

One of the best Asian restaurants in portrush.

This is normally my go to place. I’ve moved away and haven’t been in a few years. Came to enjoy some food and drinks with my family for a catch up. Upstairs was freezing. We ordered drinks which were FULLLL of ice. It was ridiculous. We got 4 in total and I’d say the liquid combined by the 4 drinks wouldn’t fill a half pint glass. We ordered food and it came out at different times so only one of us could eat as we didn’t want it to go cold waiting on the other food. We also had no cutlery or napkins so asked for these when the food arrived. We waited so long I actually walked to the bar and found my own. I don’t think I’ll be back. Put less ice in your cocktails and stop robbing people. (The photos are of my drink finished, it was filled over the top of the glass).

They could probably do with dumbing down the menu further and jacking the prices up a bit more too. Maybe open yet another restaurant with an even more dumbed down menu? Sky's the limit really.

Cocktails are back on point with Josh working upstairs being very good at making them. He's a credit to them

A friendly welcome at the Neptune and prawn ,hadn't pre booked so took a risk ,got a nice table for two in no time at all ,I had the chilli chicken goujons with big chips and a pint of Guinness ,my girlfriend had sweet and sour chicken with fried rice ,both dishes were delicious, total price £54 and some pence ,I would recommend giving it go if in portrush at a busy time pre book a table .

Popped in to have dinner with friends, decided to eat upstairs in the bar, good food, great cocktails and good tunes. Much quieter than I remember it being

Food was lovely, our server Arran was brilliant and the atmosphere was good for a busy Friday night. It is very expensive but the portion sizes are very generous, however £5.90 for a coke zero is ridiculous when a pint of guinness is £5.95!

We had a fantastic meal on Sat 13th July at Neptune and Prawn for 6 people for a birthday. The Customer Service from all staff was outstanding and we want to especially mention Aaron our waiter. He couldn't do enough to make our evening very special. He is very talented and super efficient. He's a credit to himself and your staff. The food was beautifully presented and so absolutely delicious. 5 star in every way. Also we want to thank you for giving us a window seat as requested. Really well done to Neptune and Prawn. It's by far the best restaurant on the North Coast. and we have tried them all! We most certainly will be back very soon. We loved it.

Last time we had food at Neptune and Prawn two years ago my husband was served completely raw chicken and got food poisoning so naturally it put us both off revisiting, however we decided to take our three daughters for a meal tonight hoping for a better experience and we were all very disappointed! We will not be back! Food order was wrong, one of my children got her food after other two finished, adults salt and chilli goujon meal (£17 + extra for side!) was just a kids meal with an extra goujon, exactly the same chicken!! It was served with iceberg lettuce strands which had seen better days, looked disgraceful! I ordered the prawn dish at £21 and was served a plate of greasy prawn crackers with 7 very small prawns!! Kids meals were terrible (mcds kids meals are bigger!) and all the food (that was correct!) was served within 5mins of ordering, so nothing fresh..thrown out! Very poor restaurant, fast food restaurant at best!

Doesn't really live up to it name not really a fish restaurant, tables to close together for me personally made me feel very claustrophobic and very uncomfortable you can hear everyone's conversation, and we were brought a bottle of water straight out of the tap no ice nothing thank fully we had a voucher didn't cost us much but disappointed and wouldn't go back not for me. Having said that the food was good.

Booked for 3 of us. Staff very attentive. Food was lovely and good portions. Shared a few starters. BBQ ribs were thick and juicy. Chicken wings on bed of lettuce very tasty.

To give this establishment 1 star it's not even worth that,a party of 8 people attended last evening we booked a table for 6.30pm,we were shown our table given the menu and we ordered food my friend and myself ordered a sharing starter of a prawn dish when it arrived it was a plate full of prawn crackers with 10 medium sized prawns sat in the prawn crackers .. photo to follow it was the most disgusting thing I had ever seen dried up prawns ..my friend was still eating the starter when her main dish was served to her ..there was no salt or pepper on the table and when our only male gentleman requested salt he never did get it ....3 of us had ordered the sticky beef with rice some with chips the presentation left a lot to be disired not one of the 3 resembled each other and not in the same dishes mine was in like a wok with a handle . next one of the couples ordered a small desert also my friend ordered a small cheesecake when they arrived they were all on the same plate 🤔I complained to the manager about the awful service our stater dishes were still on the table when we paid the bill out bill came to £268 for the most disgusting food ..we were asked if we would like a complimentary drink on the house so 8 cocktails at,£11 each ment we recouped something back.The disgusting prawn starter cost £22 the sticky beef was £16.95 and the rice £3.50 a price not to be sniffed at ...needless to say we won't ever be back ..it took 25 minutes to get the cocktails 😡

Lovely place and location, good parking,good service , the food did let it down tho, I wouldn't go rushing back for the food ,it seems to be torn between two cuisines

Managed to get a table on Saturday night. Absolutely packed, great atmosphere, good service, but the staff could smile a a bit? Great food, great service. Went upstairs for a few cocktails afterwards. What a great place Loved it

I am writing to say how disappointed l was with my food 12:04:24 at 7:30pm. 5 small bite sized pieces of Chicken in a bowel of what could only be considered as soup. At almost £20 and the side extra. It was such poor quality l had to complain. The other 3 meals were Chicken goujons, which were ok. The front of house staff were lovely and without fuss, didn't charge me for my meal offering me an alternative, but as everyone else was eating, l declined. I paid well over £100 for everything. This included 3 cocktails which was predominantly ice cubes. Sorry to moan, but it was a special occasion being my daughter's birthday. If the experience was good, l would have left a positive review. On this occasion, sorry, it wasn't good.

Tried to get into the bar last night with my groups of friends, we’re all 20 years old and was turned down by the bouncer as they weren’t letting anymore people in, which is fair enough. However, he had to make a comment on our age and status to reiterate why we wouldn’t get in, which I believe is unprofessional, disrespectful and unneccessary coming from a man with some type of ‘power,’ towards a group of girls.

Although food was average our waiter Aaron was fantastic he was so attentive and friendly, we will definitely return because the service was fantastic.

Not so many places in Portrush as I imagined, good food and view across the harbour and beach.

Says online it's a seafood bar but it's a Chinese. Prices are awful for what you actually get very disappointed

Had a nice meal , server didn't write down our order , so starter was wrong , then waited a while for correct starter. Food was tasty but expensive and small portions, sides not included in main meal price . Just an ok experience.

Food was superb, the service faultered, but bearing in mind how busy the place was its understandable. They seemed short staffed as well and bar service suffered to. The music and atmosphere was great. Would definitely recommend! The team were very friendly and also offered as discount to make up for it!

Very dismissive attitude by servers. We were served our main.... then servers brought food to table beside us. We then had to ask for the remainder of our food. At this time we hadn't been given our plates.... I asked for a plate to which the server looked confused and brought us 2 side plates ..... I had to then point out we needed 2 mains plates .... We asked for forks... which never arrived so my hubby went and got them himself... £104 bill for the priviledge.... next time we'll just get a takeaway from yoko 2 tables around us had to send food back as was cold.

Our table was set up but had not been cleaned from the previous service. Lacking in cleanliness On the upside the food is amazing.

20 year old with us thought the side dish of noodles he had was very small so came home and made 3 slices of cheese and toast! Just something not right. It just wasn't filling. Disappointed

The food was reasonably good, although expensive for what it was - we paid over £100 for a shared starter, main course, and a few drinks. The service however was dreadful, probably the worst we've ever experienced. Every time we wanted anything we had to go looking for a staff member, rather than them come to us. Over 25 mins to order a drink after being seated, drinks then took another 25 mins after that (arrived after our starter), pint of beer that never came, given a half pint of beer when I had ordered a full one etc. Unfortunately staff hardly came near the table, so grabbing the attention of someone passing was difficult, and every time they said they'd get something, it took another 20-30 mins (or had to be asked for again). Wasn't particularly busy and it was well staffed so not really sure what the problem was Especially disappointed as we were celebrating a special occasion (which they had been made aware of in advance)

Conveniently located. I had the Kung Pao chicken which was banging! The staff was really friendly and the cocktails were absolutely stellar!

I headed there with a friend that has 2 babies and they were very welcoming despite us having a big pram. The staff is kind and very helpful, the food was served quickly and it was delicious, not only visually! Prices are affordable and good enough for the location. Definitely recommend trying their meat!

3 out of 5 glasses were dirty,extremely slow service. As previously stated, it's an ok Chinese menu,in no way authentic. Too busy to care for the patrons they seat. Will not return.

Good dinner and lovely place to enjoy a drink

I had an outstanding experience at the restaurant, and I must say that the server, Arran, truly exceeded my expectations. His exceptional service went above and beyond, ensuring that every aspect of our meal was enjoyable. Arran’s attentiveness, knowledge, and warm demeanour added a delightful touch to our dining experience. It’s rare to find a server who is so dedicated and willing to go the extra mile.

Could not recommend this place enough! We popped in after a North Coast road trip with a friend from abroad, without a reservation, and a double buggy. They were very accommodating, our server Charley was lovely, polite and attentive, and the food wad delivious!

Busy place, best to book at the weekend. Food was tasty and well presented.

Mediocre at best, cramped seating, would need to wash their tables with detergent as the antibacterial spray has made the surfaces sticky. Service as we witnessed was patchy, one table barely had time to take a bite before someone asked them how was everything, I found this most entertaining. The food was uninspiring to the point that I would avoid if possible. If you're in Portrush though, you're not spoilt for choice.

Harbour view is excellent. Flavours were too strong in Asian Menu. Service was not attentive.

Liked it. Lovely view, good cocktails and convenient for town centre.

Early on Wednesday we had a great sharing meal. Salt and Pepper Chicken. Halloumi Tikka And Tacos. So lovely and flavoursome (small Beak peppers . What a discovery!!!! ).

No reservation- offered bar stool at bar to eat, very high to reach up. Chinese replica food served in small saucepan, no plate provided until almost finished! Cutlery arrived after food and had to request napkins. Swarming with staff, however etiquette poor, nay need few lessons on how to treat customers. Very disappointing experience.

Very disappointing , got the chilli prawn fried rice , chicken was like it was from the Spar with Frank's hot sauce over it! Prawns were smaller than the rice and very expensive

Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced!! Took forever to order from us, food came out after an hour and ended up having our sides “missing”. They also don’t answer their phones if your trying to order a take away! Not worth it…

An experience to question. Our table was not ready for the time we booked. We had to wait at the bar and patiently wait to be served. We ordered and when our starters came we have to ask for cultery and napkins. During the main course, which the waiter didn't even know what he was serving, which we also had to ask for cultery for ...it got cold and asked for the air con to be turned off. It wasn't so we sat and froze. At the end of the meal the bill was literally threw at us. We had the cash on the table and was literally asked abruptly to hand the money over even though we were finishing out drinks. I'd think twice about booking again.

First and foremost, this is like a Chinese food place. So, don't let the name fool you. The atmosphere is great and the servers are nice, but the place is so busy and they don't have enough staff. Expect everything to take a long time. The food tasted good but the portions are smaller than similar restaurants. If you have a hankering for some Chinese then give this place a try.

Annie, Izzy and Felipe provided excellent service. They were absolutely amazing.

First time here, food and service were excellent and good portions. Duck spring rolls and satay skewers for starter and chilli chicken chow mein and fish and chips, fish was butterfly tempura prawns! Amazing! Back soon.

Myself and my family went here for food, if you are vegetarian AVOID. We ordered tofu Katsu curry and sent it back, they replaced this with a veg chow mein and to our surprise this was even more tasteless. Save your money and go elsewhere. Staff were amazing and very corporative just a shame the food was genuinely awful and overpriced.

Paid £24 for sea bass which was served cooked in what tasted like half a bottle of soy sauce and was unbelievably salty. Def ruined the sea bass. My partner had “salt and chilli” goujans which were just regular goujans. Bit disappointed because the price is quite high and expected more! Service was nice but quite slow.

Its the first time I have been here. The food was gorgeous and service was good. Would highly recommend it.

Celebrated my birthday here, Tom and the team were very accomodating and helped the evening go smoothly. Service was quick and everyone enjoyed the food. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Speedy service and the food was exceptional.

Simply the best restaurant in Ireland. The food is absolutely delicious. Great portion sizes and reasonably priced too. We received first class service from Nicola on Thursday 10th November. We'll definitely be back. Keep up the good work!

Staff fantastic and that's why they got 2 stars ...what an absolute over rated place for food .. £18 for the pepper chicken.. if they hadve said £2 it was to expensive.. dry ...tobaco onions not cooked and tbh worst meal I've had long time..... They have the monopoly for food but cmon guys you need to step it up .. people are paying top dollar but not getting what the deserve

Had starters which was fabulous chili prawns ,,, an prawn crackers,,Came to main courses both chicken dishes 1 was sweet an sour chicken Was just OK, an the other was chicken kung po not good at all was very dry an burned taste all through it, not a good experience

This is a very popular place which leads to a very good atmosphere. The food is great with generous portions and the bar upstairs is really cool with a lovely view of the harbour.
