As a regular customer i'm very disappointed at the lack of attentiveness from the staff. After ordering soup to start followed by a main the soup arrived promptly and was delicious, the cafe was reasonably busy. However, that's as good as it gets in this story. After finishing my soup I waited just about 15 min and still no sign of the main. At this point I called the server to ask her could she check if my main was ready please. To my dismay, I was told that I did not order one! After politely informing the server that in fact I had ordered a main she told me she would pass the order in to the kitchen but it would take some time as there were three tables now in front of me. To avoid further fiasco, and with a keen desire to end this dining experience I declined wait paid for my soup and scarpered.

Can't fault this great cafe. Food is great and real value for money. Service is so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended. This is the way all cafes should be.

Amazing choice of food, really good quality, good portions and great value. Amazing chips, sandwiches, soup, sausage rolls and tray bakes

I’m here all the time, the food is always exceptional, the staff are really friendly and the prices are fine, would really recommend here for all occasions (Breakfast and Lunch) 5*

Visited here today for 2nd time and again we weren’t disappointed. Kim & Catherine I’m sure where there the names of girls looking after us and done a great job. I had bangers and mash which was delicious my wife had curry. We really enjoyed and will be back.

Lovely spot! Nice fresh food, great service and will definitely return. Had lunch which was quick service and fresh produce.

My wife and I sopped off for breakfast at Nels and everything was just lovely. I had the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and my wife had a small fry plus tea and coffee. The staff were really friendly, the service was speedy and the whole restaurant was spotlessly clean. Well done to all.

Was passing through today decided to stop for some lunch. Delighted we did lovely food an excellent service. Not expensive either. Will be back !!

Awful service, girls seem not to give a damn at all! When we ask for something extra eyes were rolled🤦🏽‍♀️Food wasn’t worth the price they charge either! Won’t be returning

Been to Nels on a range of occasions and I have found the Service to be very good and staff very pleasant, nothing was a bother to them. Food came in good time and empty plates all round. Would recommend and plan to return. Prices also excellent.

Called in for food and was absolutely delighted with the food and the standard. Staff were exceptional, with great personalities and more than helpful. The menu catered for all. Will definitely be coming here more often.

Wish we could give more than 5 stars, deserves a 10! Amazing staff, friendly service, great food and coffee. Warm, Friendly conversation and the price is extremely reasonable. Will definitely be back! Highly recommended

Really really bad service totally ignored & felt invisible sat for 10 mins couple came in after us & was served the girls really have no manners & no expierience on hosting really really bad

We waited for food 40min and it was cold. coffee is not tasty. Staff talk to each other and are in no hurry to serve. Do not recommend!

Visited cafe while visiting friends nearby.. Cafe was clean parking was easy and staff where very friendly Food was good and well priced, will definitely visit again

Two of us stopped by for lunch on the recommendation of a colleague. Comfortable surroundings and friendly service. A good range of choices from very light lunches to more substantial meals. Thai fish cakes went down a treat.

Seen christmas Dinner posted on Facebook and that was enough to make 3 of us go .. Christmas Dinner was fantastic and tasty .. service was quick . And good was great we were well stuffed .didnt stop us getting a doughnut either .... We will be back asap

Used to love this cafe but our last 2 visits have not been great. On one of our visits we waited half an hour for a sausage roll. The staff were not friendly and did not seem interested in their work. The chef did not look happy either. We decided we wouldn't go back. However, we gave them another go today. Staff just as unfriendly and uninterested. Sausage rolls were cold and had no garnish. Not going back. Would not recommend. Shame as used to be a lovely little cafe.

We stayed nearby and had breakfast here twice. The staff were very friendly the food was excellent and not to expensive. Family of 4 cost less than 20 pounds for 4 cooked breakfast. They open early and the locals seem to be in there as well so a good sign. Highly recommended

Great food and friendly staff. Visited twice while in Castlewellan for a couple of days, couldn't fault any of the food and reasonably priced. Something for everybody.

Called in early this morning for 2 take away cappuccino and it was no bother asking for Almond milk as I'm lactose intolerant the coffee was gorgeous as per usual . Staff very friendly. 2nd visit on way home we stopped for dinner . I ordered the steak sandwich my partner had the curry . The steak was lovely and tender and well done all lovely fresh food .The curry was lovely and tasty too The place was busy and the staff couldn't do enough for us .. very attentive and tidy The place was very clean and we shall be back asap

Have been in with my partner but I need to say the staff was very grumpy and not customer friendly at all. was in just for a coffee but the waiting time was way tooo long. Don't think I ll be back. Defo not what the business is about- nice atmosphere and customer service

Lovely place and front of house staff were great. Very helpful and efficient however the same can't be said for the kitchen. I waited so long on my lunch that I actually had to leave without it... 40 Mins for a Baked Potato. The thing is, is that it wasn't overly busy. Disappointing

Had Breakfast on two mornings while staying in the local area.Nels is a lovely clean, friendly and pleasing environment to relax and eat in.The fry was lovely and clean.The second morning my hubby had the omelette ans I have to say I have eaten omelette in many different countries in the world including France and I have to say Nels is definitely the Best ever for flavour and portion.I cannot wait to return and next time that will be my choice.Great hosts and friendly staff.You cannot go wrong.

Called in for a quick bite before school run served quickly waited for ever on a sandwich. Seems they are always short staff and no one really running the show.sandwich was just ok have had better coffee not great very weak and flat so would give this a miss.Loads of other places in castlewellan to spend money in.

We visited Nels and what can I say Great place , good parking , friendly Staff & lovely Food!! The only thing I can say is I think they should have table service as it was a bit confusing . We got Served by a Lovely Lady called Kelly,, she was extremely helpful went over & above for us .. helped a fussy Eater in our Group decide on the Right choice & made our Experience to Nels very Enjoyable! Kelly is an asset to this Cafe & we think her Love for her job & customer service is amazing she is a pleasure to be served by . Looking forward to returning to this Cafe & seeing the Amazing Kelly

Lovely place for refreshments in the centre of Castlewellan. Great service. A drink was spilled by one of our lads and it was replaced with no bother and no extra charge. Would certainly come here again.

Where to start when reviewing Nel’s? Perhaps with the 30 minute wait for a baked potato, which I had to remind the staff that I had ordered. By the time it arrived my family had finished their orders. The potato was luke warm at best and despite specifically asking for no onions the plate was liberally covered with large slices. I couldn’t recommend eating here when there are so many other options close by.

Called in to Nels for a family lunch and it was delicious, all homemade food and large portions.

Despite there only being one other customer who had already been served it still took 5 minutes for the very unhelpful and depressed looking lady behind the counter to serve me and my two friends. Coffee was average to poor as it was on the cold side which wasn't helped by the icy blast coming through the door. Chairs where ultra uncomfortable along the lines of recycled school chairs. Tables where dirty from long gone previous customers and the phone charge points did not work. Glad to get out to be honest and glad I didn't have a meal.

Lovely chicken goujons, salad and sandwiches. Large portions with plenty of sides. Service was quick and friendly.

visiting Newcastle which as usual had a lot of people in and few parking spaces . So took the option of travelling the short distance up to Castlewellan and enjoyed the scenery and nearby mountains. Parked easily in the town centre and went into Nels where I had hot chocolate and tea and cake.
