Docs Fish/Chips & Cafe in Down

Just got a fish supper in docs worst ever chips rock hard fish over cooked not worth £7.95 I'll not come back.

Regular visitor here Menu has a great choice, staff are always friendly and food is top quality Would def recommend !!

Had fish and chips x2 a bit greasy and the portions size of the chips was terrible considering i asked for large.. was more like a small..will be going back to Molloy's

Very disappointing food today, more than 10 meals bought for a work lunch and all were bad. A grease fest and looked like it was threw together...also my sausage supper was squashed at the bottom of the brown bag..will not be back.

Used to love going to docs chippy so last night I fancied a fish but when I got it home I was very unimpressed about my fish I’ve had bigger fish fingers 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Dropped into Docs for a late brunch... absolutely excellent food... sumptuous pasties and great filled sodas... well worth a visit

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Chips were excellent, fish was probably the nicest ive ever tasted. Reasonably priced and good variety on the menu. Would highly recommend

I use the take away service. You can order, pay and come back. There is the usual 'chippy' fare, but I've only had the fish. Good portions and helpful staff.

Docs is excellent for a fish supper, fresh quality produce served by friendly smiling staff who are pleased to accept your custom. Sparkling clean and highly recommended. Good luck to all at Docs.

The best restaurant in town... incredible food and staff.. I had dinner here two of three night I was in town... The 2nd night diners were treated to a semi credible musicians playing authentic Celtic music and everyone in the building South as I did that and are incredible

If you want good fish and chips in downpatrick this is where to get them. Always use Doc's when the fish n chips notion. Recommended

Arrived at apartment just by Doc's chippy bout 8ish and we all a bit peckish so we had curry and chips. Lovely hot fresh chips and a yummy curry sauce

Called in for a late lunch intending to try the fish but noticed other diners had ordered the all day breakfast so we opted for this instead.

Docs Fish and Chip Restaurant is tucked away from the main thoroughfare in Downpatrick but it is well worth hunting it out. The seating area is pleasant and, unlike many fish restaurants, it is not "steamy". The menu is comprehensive and includes non-fish dishes but the fish they serve is superb. I chose cod and it came perfectly cooked - lots of nice fish and not too much batter. The chips were well cooked and very, very tasty and the portions were very generous. For a quick, tasty meal whilst visiting Downpatrick, this is the place to go.

Was recommended this restaurant by a friend. Went at tea time on a Tuesday and it was very quiet which surprised me. Very average fish and chips, dry mushy peas and not much fish in the batter. When I lifter the salt to put on my food the cellar was so greasy that it slipped out of my fingers! Sit in was generally grubby. Staff did as they needed to. Would probably pass on this place if wanting fish and chips again, there are better places in Downpatrick.

We bought a takeaway here on friday. Three kids cod and chips and battered scampi with salad and chips. All meals where freshly prepared and really tasty.

Excellent service of staff! Was greeting by a lovely waitress who couldn’t be any more nicer and made u feel like you were at home !!

Went as a family of four today and we can't fault that place. We sat in and the service was quick and efficient. The chicken curry I had would put some Chinese takeaways to shame!!!! Highly recommend it

Unos años atrás, cuando estaba Downpatrick Capacitación Serc campus me hubiera venido aquí unas cuantas veces para realizar el almuerzo. Me encantaron sus hamburguesas de queso y me gustó la manera en que fue rápido el servicio y el personal era amable.

No había estado en aquí en un largo tiempo como pescado y patatas fritas grasientas y podría ser más cálido. Pensamos que sería dar una vuelta, así que fuimos de nuevo ir pescado lleno de grasa y papas fritas definitivamente no es caliente. Parecía climatizada de nuevo. Definitivamente no volveremos.

Not allowed fish and chips often but Docs is chip shop of choice for me well cooked "cod supper" and friendly quick service

This is a grand chippy with great fish and chips that are freshly cooked plus tea and other food - we had fish and chips and mushy peas which were delicious!

I was very impressed with the very friendly staff and efficient service as well as the menu! The Fish and Chips was the best I have had in years!

Great menu selection, quality fresh cooked food and my favourite chippy in the town. When the owners are not there - some of the till staff are not the friendliest, they go through the motions of saying please and thankyou but you know they are not interested.When busy the portion sizes tend to shrink.

I used to go more but the portions have got smaller and price no longer reflects good value for money, fish about half size it used to be and a small chip is small about 1 potatoe, very expensive for an average chip shop,

On a Friday night, sometimes all that you want is quality fish & chips from a local takeaway and Docs always delivers! Visited recently and it reminded me how great it is to have somewhere local that offers fresh and lightly battered fish with traditional and tasty 'chippy' chips, with all the trimmings. Definitely try the mushy peas and if you're hungry, go for an extra portion of onion rings.

We were here with a large family, 11 people, and they offered us exactly what each of us want to wat and drink. All right on time, with a smile, good taste and goodlooking and for an affordable price! We surely will come back here. The best for Fish and chips!

A great place to stop off for a bite to eat. Lunch or dinner. Well known for its fish and the southern fried goujons are to die for.

This was described to me as the best chippy in Downpatrick. So, needless to say, I was expecting it to be really nice... Ehhh, not so much. Slow as a wet week, even when there aren't many people in front of you, and the food was average at best. But, in fairness, it IS better than most places in the town, so probably IS the best in Dpk. But that's not saying much.

Went here on a Wednesday lunch time. The fish and chips were really great but it can be a bit hit and miss as to how greasy the fish is! The chips were very good and they give you a good size portion. There is a sit in area but a sign says they've no toilets, not sure if that's true it might be to put of casual callers! I've been here a few times but I'm not really sure of their Sunday opening hours. I think they open when they feel like it so we go to their other branch in Ardglass when its closed which is just as good.

We called in today (Downpatrick shop) for lunch and decided to sit in the cafe, very busy for lunch. We went for the trusted fish & chips which was top quality, well presented and fresh! The young girl working in the cafe was extremely friendly and helpful with our requests, even though she was under pressure at a busy time of the day. Well done Docs, keep up the good work, we will be back!

Got decent enough food, quite nice tasting, but I wouldn't say I was raving about it. The service was quite slow however, and I felt that I wasn't getting very good value for money. Not a bad little place though

How often do yous change your cooking oil? Had 2 fish suppers, onion rings and peppered sauce. First thing I tasted was a chip, tasted awful! Knew to look at the fish it was so greasy!! And as for the onion rings!!! How many are supposed to be in a portion??? I couldn't tell as the batter was falling off as it was so greasy like the oil or lard(whatever you s cook with), is long overdue changing!!!! Also couldn't believe the size off the tub for peppered sauce was so small for the price being charged!!! But it came in handy to smother the horrible taste off the chips!!!

Good food , well priced and a very high focus on service. I thought that this place is working very hard to give value, quality and service

A friend took us here while visiting Downpatrick. He said it was the best F&C around. He was correct. I don't normally care for seafood/fish. But this was excellent.

We (a Family of 4) visited Doc's after a day's mountain biking in Castleward. Best chips ever. Reasonable menu choice and ok value. Will be back.

Ordered a ham and cheese sandwich on brown bread and got a toasted ham and cheese on granary bread ordered a southern fief chicken wrap with sweet chilli sauce got the wrap toasted (didn't mind) it had southern fried chicken as stated then it went terribly wrong cooked onion and tomatoes which made the lettuce soggy and partially cooked hence a big mush all I can say is they do a nice cup of coffee

Service very quick at till for carry out. Great value for money. Have sat in too, hot food and service great, nothing any bother. Only thing NO TOILETS so not family friendly.told toilets in St Patrick's centre across road, that's not satisfactory these days, so if you have family either go to toilet before you go in or???????

Over the last three years I have been taking my (now almost 5 year-old) grandson to Downpatrick a few times each summer. We found this on our first visit, by accident, and we love it. We have never been disappointed. The staff are friendly, helpful and child-friendly, and I cannot fault it. Also, it is just perfectly situated close to so many of the tourist attractions. This is no gourmet resturant and makes no pretensions to be so - it is just a great cafe (of the old Italian style) - the fish n chips are to die for.

After an horrific tragic few weeks we thought we could have lunch and maybe be able to relax a little. We were given menu's soon after we arrived. We waited 15 minutes and no-one came to take our order or to let us know they would be with us soon. Decided to give them the benifit of the doubt but after another five minutes nothing. Left and will definitely not return. Couldn't believe that customers are totally ignored. Cramped space and total disregard for their clientele.

Sometimes the food is good, sometimes it is awful!!!!!It depends on who is cooking.......Recently I called in for a chip and when I got home it was very obvious they were reheated chips...I should have known by the speed I was served.....It could improve if the standard of the food was more consistent and they did not reheat food....

Seriously disappointed by visit today. Chips hard as not cooked enough. Breast of chicken soooooo dry it was seriously overcooked. Goujons also way overcooked with sauces having a skin on them eugh. Plus whilst the little chip baskets are a novel way of serving said chips the portions aren't big enough for prices plus its a fish and chip cafe. Trying way to hard and I for one won't be back.

Called in for a quite bite to eat. We both had the fish supper special. Fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter, tea/coffee or a soft drink for £8.95, great value. Food was fresh and very tasty, service was quick and very pleasent. Would recommend a visit.

Cod and chips twice- twice the price of what it was worth! Expensive, overcooked and greasy. Really unpleasant to eat, so a waste of money. Took forever to be served too. I do not recommend this place.

We got takeaway from the Ardglass branch of Docs. It was busy with plenty of staff. Service was quick, and the food was really tasty. It would have been 5 star all the way except…..when we got the food home, there was no drink with the kids meal, the super chip sauce was pepper sauce, no salt and vinegar on the chips (we weren't asked if we wanted any) and no salad on the kebab….disappointing given that the food is great….

I will never be back to this establishment again!! £10.05 for chicken goujons, a gravy chip and a coke?! There are hidden charges in the menu, the staff don't pay attention when taking your order (no drinks taken, our dips that we ordered didn't materialise until we asked for them after our food was brought out, and one food order was taken totally wrong resulting in one of us not receiving food until the others were nearly finished our meal).While the food is nice, the service and price are absolutely shocking.

This is a friendly cafe with a take away section. It's compact but we managed to get the wheelchair to a window area. The food was tasty and the staff attentive. My gripe was that green tea was on the menu but not available .When we went back ten days later it was still not available. How hard is it to get green tea in? Why have it on the menu if you're not going to bother?

The tables were dirty on occasions, and prefrance given to drunks choosing to sit beside the window, looking at the cathedral. When we were left on the corner as the only clean table available

A bit on the expensive side but pleasant. No toilet is a bit of a pain and being directed to the nearby information centre to avail of their facilities seems strange.

We were a little unsure of the restaurant since it looked fairly trendy from the outside, but once indoors, we found phenomenal service and the best fish and chips I've ever had. The breading was what made it truly delicious, and I just wish I could go back for more!

A little on the pricy side for a fish and chip, but it is certainly worth it. I often stop in here to satisfy the fish hunger. Would recommend at least trying it for yourself.

as a chippy this one is hard to beat a very busy hot spot in the middle of town a great selection of fast food and quick service

Very hit and miss, sometimes the foods fantastic and other times it a dissapointment. Very overpriced for what it is. And portion sizes sometimes get a nice amount and other times they take the complete mickey....scampi and chips etc 4 bits scampi and 10 chips!!
