What a special place! I did a day trip to Portsmouth and ran into Nattie’s. The ambience is reminiscent of being seaside at Ocho Rios or Montego Bay in Jamaica. Inside was a sand filled area with tables. I sat in that spot - sand under my feet, reggae music as my soundtrack with the aroma of jerk spices in the air. Behind me was a bar and as I ate I relaxed to Bob, Peter, Steel Pulse and other reggae greats. When I walked out it was as if I had been to the beach and back. It truly is a special place.

It was a very long day after my Grand Nephew’s graduation 24 Jul 24 and my family and I (group of 10), were very hungry and thought that we would try Natty’s and just across from the station. Well, the food and the drinks DID NOT DISAPPOINT and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was truly lovely and we all thoroughly enjoyed everything we all had. Equally, the staff were absolutely delightful, warm, helpful and cheerful.

I was enchanted to find that Natty's had authentically recreated the vibe and experience of a Jamaican restaurant, in the centre of Portsmouth. Everything, from the friendly helpfulness of staff, to the decor and music, set the scene for a delicious Jamaican meal. We decided on pork belly, with jerk sauce and accompaniments and roasted sweetcorn with toasted coconut. All washed down with Red Stripe lager. A superb meal. We will return soon.

went to the utilita bowl, hedge end, southampton sunday to watch the cricket and saw natty has a concession there...was excited for lunch! had nattys chicken jerk pon fries....what a rip off disappointment. had a couple of pieces of thigh meat hidden under a mountain of slaw on a pile of fries..the rest of the chicken was skin! 3 large slivers, 1 inch by 5 inch long, of skin, not even crispy, coated in a sickly sweet bbq sauce??? this was not jerk..it was disappointment! the only heat was from a couple of sliced green chillis thrown in with the slaw. a shame really as we have eaten at the commercial road eaterie and had nice food....cant believe this is the same company.

Having wandered past on several occasions and smelt the amazing food I decided to give Natty's a go with my wife and friends. We were glad to see that with vegan and gluten free options all members of the party were catered for. The serving staff were really friendly and happy to recommend the right sauce for the cauli wings and that rice was better with the ital curry. The mojitos were excellent and the beer was cold. The coconut roasted corn was amazing, as was the mushroom burger. The cauli wings were the best I've ever tasted and were beautifully complimented by the mango and lime sauce.

I came for Sunday roast, first of all the pricing is very confusing for the roast doesn’t make sense. Then the chicken was over cooked, they had no roast potatoes, the mac and cheese was watery, carrots were hard. I was looking forward to going all week but when I did go I was so disappointed. I feel like I wasted £48

Yet another visit here. Which we always do when we come to the Portsmouth theatres. A restaurant that has a good vibe, Great tasting food, really friendly service. On this occassion though the drinks arrived after we finished the food. Despite us chasing this up. The restaurant was not overly busy ( 5.45) but it appeared drinks were coming out very slowly. Not because cocktails were being made either. A second person needs to be in the bar area or the barman needs to open the fridges quicker ! In saying that perhaps he was new, so maybe that comment seems a little harsh. We shall return though as this is only a slight detail and on all other occassions as by my previous reviews has always been a 5 out of 5 venue.

Wow, does this little gem do what it says on the tin ... And then some !!! An absolutely wonderful dining experience and all I can say is "just give it a go" Wonderful friendly staff and I include the chefs who you can watch preparing your meal. Nothing remotely like it in Portsmouth and enjoy your Caribbean meal with a chilled bottle of delicious Red Stripe lager ( brewed in Jamaica of course ) !!!

We came to Portsmouth today on a whim to go to some museums and decided to get some food after. We were pretty set on going to another place but noticed Natty’s at the last minute. We love Carribbean food so decided to give it a go and we’re so glad we did. I had a goat curry and my wife had ital curry. My daughter had a Mac and cheese and we had some dumplings and fries to share. Every dish we ordered was as so tasty we are so happy we chose to eat at Natty’s today. Our dishes were so full of flavour and the goat was so tender. Even the Mac and cheese had a little twist that made it unique. Another thing of note was the drinks on offer. Various imported drinks chief among them the pink Ting we loved so much on our holidays. I know it’s often said about food restaurants and a bit cheesy but it really is a little taste of the Caribbean at home. We don’t often come this way but I think from now on whenever we come to Portsmouth it has to include a meal at Natty’s. Amazing food, good portions, good music, great prices and lovely staff.

Stay clear of this place. Awful experience of what could have been simple conversation. I ordered a standard jerk chicken meal. I departed to my hotel which is a 3 minute walk away. Opened the food, tasted the chicken and it was dead cold inside. Tried the rice, same thing. I walked back to the store with no issues but just for another meal as like most people we want our food hot. They exchanged it no problem for another jerk chicken meal. I left the store again, completed my 3 min walk back to my hotel room. I took a bite of the chicken, it was cold, again! The rice, cold again. I thought ok I’ve just paid £13.50 for this meal let me go to the hotel kitchen to see if they can warm it. Due to food standards they aren’t allowed. I decided to return back to the store. Same thing again I mentioned without any aggression. I simply stated the food is cold please can it be replaced. I was quite cheerful actually, no issue as these things can happen. I asked the chef to place her finger inside at which she did. Immediately she checked her hot pot which holds the chicken and rice. Another store worker said maybe we need to check our probes are okay. No problem at all considering it is freezing outside and I had just walked back, twice!! Now, the original lady that served me, white lady working the till decided to have an attitude problem. She went on to ask me to sit down. I told her it’s fine I am ok standing thanks. I would just like my food to be tested before I leave. I even said please put your finger in it to test it. This seemed to rile her up such that her attitude was so disrespectful towards me it would seem that I was in the wrong. I asked her why the attitude problem the food is cold. Her whole demeanour, facial expression, body language and verbal was of disgust towards me. Is it because I am a black male? I have no idea but that is my perception that it was. I mentioned to her that I would leave a review regarding her attitude problem. She said yeh no problem go ahead now go sit down!!! Wtf I thought. I even mentioned to the chefs regarding this lady’s attitude at which one of them said don’t mind her. They were nothing but polite towards me. They offered me another meal. I said test it please. The chef stated she can see steam coming from it. We both tested it and she took it back as the chicken was cold inside. I was then offered my money back at which I accepted. The original rude female then again mentioned ‘ you can have your money back’ . I again asked her what her issue was as I am a paying customer I am not in the wrong here. She then tried the old reverse psychology trick of ‘ I don’t appreciate you talking to me like this’. I looked at her in total disbelief and mentioned please don’t try that one with me it’s not going to work. She then stormed away. To have such disrespectful service in a West Indian restaurant is appalling. I felt like this lady was a racist. If this is the case then get out, move on, go work elsewhere. Them days of racism are done. Don’t stand for it people! This is 2023. I have black children who I teach to stand up to them psychological games from people of different colour. I’m Sure every black can relate as this is the norm at times. This lady has done your company no justice at all. Bring back the other cashier who was there when I last visited. She showed nothing but respect to her paying customer. Let’s not forget, my food was cold, I didn’t even raise my voice but politely requested a replacement on both occasions. Most customers would have been very angry at that. Never am I visiting Nattys again. Or recommending to any of my students I teach in the local area. I will tell them this story which will spread. Sorry but RACISM is done!!!!!! I then went over to Doner One across the road and had a lovely meal along with exceptional customer service to match. Big let down Nattys!!! 29/11/2023

As you approach the restaurant the smell of the meat grilling draws you in. Good music/ good vibe. I have been here a few times, my first experience was exceptional, my last visit was average at best. I think the difference might be the timing of when you go (?) My first visit it was busy...and they shined...the food was hot and delicious. My last visit was an off time, the food was not to temperature and did not seem as fresh as past visits. The jerk chicken was exceptional in first visit, not appropriate temperature in last visit. The chicken is served with a mango slaw. You can order the chicken with rice and peas or served on pomme frites. The goat tasted as if it was previously cooked/frozen and then reheated...maybe goat is not as popular and this is how they offer it (?) I am unsure. The sauce on it was very good, but the texture of the meat was off. The goat is served with rice and beans (referred to as peas) and plantain, 14.50. The pomme frites were very good. You order and pay at the front counter and your food is brought to you (be sure to make note of your table number before you go to counter to order). Service is friendly. You can sit inside or outback in a beachy area with sand and picnic tables.

We've never had a bad meal at Natty's, they do what they do well. Both take out and eat in are excellent. Both meat and vegetarian are excellent, the jerk jackfruit is seriously hot and the mac n cheese is beautiful. The restaurant has a great vibe.

Rooms are good. Food on the other hand !! Is a much, MUCH different story !. The pub/restaurant (if that's what you can call it) is a shambles. We turned up, and tried going in at the opening time, 5pm, only to be told that it wasn't open as a member of staff had left the premises with the keys to open the front door. Nearly an hour later, the doors were opened, we were sat down, and find that the menu is so small, and basic, that you couldn't call it a bar menu, let alone a restaurant menu. The food is prepacked/precooked and reheated and plated up. So they can't cater to families who have autistic children or young fussy eaters. The lady who served us, bless her, tries her best to help out with options and to try and keep us in the restaurant, but ultimately, soon came to realise that their system is MAJORLY FLAWED

I’ve never in my life ordered a takeaway, and had to chuck the whole thing away after a few bites. It was the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Please don’t waste your money! £35 for reheated, stale & tastes less food. Hard, dry fish. Samosas were like mush, really soggy. The battered sausage was full of gristle and the batter around it was stale. I’m scared I’m going to get ill. Never again!
