To say this TripAdvisor review is long overdue is a gross understatement. I think I paid Nasturtium my first visit back in, hmm, maybe March 2022, so genuinely, we’re talking years. And, given the wonderful menus, meals and memories the restaurant has served up since then, the fact that it’s taken so long to put pen to paper is downright embarrassing. Mind you, when food is as good as this, it’s hard to know what to say. Take their signature Eggs Benedict, aka The Breakfast of Kings: perfectly poached eggs, the colour and texture of sunshine, drenched in heavenly hollandaise. The taste sensation, the explosion of flavour, cannot be described in mere words. Soft moans, satisfied sighs and reverential silence are all I can muster: think that episode of The Simpsons where Homer becomes a food critic and foregoes eloquence in favour of ecstatic drooling by way of review. That’s me at Nasturtium! And whilst I’m nerdishly referencing pop culture, I also equate this local gem with the TV series Breaking Bad. This may seem like a strange analogy, but bear with me! I was one of the few people who watched that show from the beginning, before it was cool, before anybody had heard of it. I’d wax lyrical about it to anybody who would listen. The same goes for Nasturtium: my husband and I are proud to say that we were O.G. fanboys from day one (we have the branded tote bag to prove it) and ate there long before it became the talk of the town) and THE place to be. Back when the restaurant was situated in Grimsby, down Abbygate, we used to tell everybody how amazing it was, how they HAD to try it. And it’s been so wonderful to see townsfolk catch on and the hard work, passion and creativity of Jack and his team recognised and rewarded (long overdue, like this review). The move from Grimsby to Cleethorpes has allowed Nasturtium to spread its wings, fulfil its potential and grow its customer base (selfishly, I miss it being on my doorstep, but now when we take a trip it feels extra special). The seafront location is picturesque and idyllic, and has no doubt enticed first-time diners in. But, there’s a reason they keep coming back for more. The food, unquestionably, is the best you’ll find in North East Lincolnshire. Nowhere else can hold a candle. If fine dining is what you’re after, honestly, Nasturtium is unparalleled and never disappoints. Find me another establishment locally that features Dashi or Togarashi Emulsion on its menu and I’ll eat my hat (with which Jack could no doubt work wonders). As a self-proclaimed foodie, Nasturtium really does tick al the boxes for me. It’s the perfect spot to meet friends for a mid-morning catch-up: they do a mean Flat White and a brunch menu to die for (the aforementioned decadently delicious Eggs Benedict takes some beating, literally and figuratively, whereas the Garden Breakfast is a fresh, flavoursome feast). If brunch is too early for you, the Lunchtime Special menu is a steal, though be warned, you’ll want to order one of everything. How can one be expected to choose between a Mushroom Gyozo and a Smoked Mackerel Chowder? It’s like choosing a favourite child! The options are interesting and eclectic (not a panini in sight, hallelujah), changing regularly so as to be in-line with seasonal produce. A recently introduced Sunday Lunch is also well worth checking out: as you’d expect, this isn’t your bog-standard roast. It’s next level: elevated, extravagant and making me hungry just to think about. The Evening menu is the Piste de la Resistance and, over the years, has comprised some truly spectacular dishes. The chocolate cremeaux is honestly one of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted… sometimes I dream about it. #deathrowmeal. Consistent excellence and endless inventiveness are a common theme, so whatever you opt for is guaranteed to be mouth-wateringly memorable. Even things that really shouldn’t work – mushroom ice cream! – proved revelatory and wowed the taste-buds. And, don’t get me started on the drinks! Trust me, get a taxi because you need to work your way through the ingeniously curated cocktail list (pleasingly rum heavy). The wine is high quality (again, you won’t find wine of this calibre in this locality) and the Nasturtium pale ale also comes highly recommended. From special Tasting Menu evenings (course after course of faultless culinary wizardry) to last week’s Valentine’s Day seating (mmm, that cod!), this restaurant has given me Date Nights to cherish for a lifetime. My two biggest loves – my husband and food (not necessarily in that order) so to have both together is when I’m at my happiest. Before I become gooier than that cremeaux, let me finish off with a few words about Head Chef Jack, the driving force behind Nasturtium. What I’m about to say will either embarrass you or inflate your head even further! Three years ago, we stopped by for a coffee-to-go – “Yes, chef!”/”Sure thing, dude!” And then, we never went away. And, whilst the quality of the food speaks for itself, a big part of why we love the joint so much is because of the kindness, generosity and welcoming warmth that we have received ever since. The place feels like home. Case and point: Valentine’s Day, we each received a bunch of flowers at our table. Trust me, as a gay couple, that sort of thing just does not happen in Grimsby! It’s been so lovely seeing first-hand Jack’s ambitions come to fruition, and we feel privileged to have been passengers along for the ride. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of success. His love and enthusiasm for his craft is evident on every plate that goes out and he’ll only settle for the best. Which is exactly what Nasturtium is… THE BEST. Right, enough – I’m starving! PS - I’ve also seen several reviewers on here have bemoaned the lack of food options available… that’s actually one of the things I like most about the menu. With only 3 choices for lunch and dinner (brunch has 10+), you know everything listed is fresh, made to order, done well and carefully considered (a restaurant with a Bible for a menu is a real turn-off for me as you just know everything is defrosted and microwaved). The fact that the menu is constantly changing also means you'll never wind up eating the same meal twice. In terms of gluten-free/vegan options: I know from experience that the establishment will gladly cater for either dietary requirement providing advance notice is given (some vegan friends of mine accompanied us one evening and found the gnocchi to be incredible). They also stock milk alternatives (soya, oat, etc.) so vegan coffee-drinkers will also not go thirsty.

Our first visit to Nasturtium and very pleased we were with the Sunday lunch. We both chose the pork belly and found it perfectly cooked and delicious. The sides too were excellent. I can understand reviews by people who appear to prefer quantity over quality - to be clear, this is high quality food, if you want a massive portion, head to your local pub. For us, the two courses were just right in terms of quantity and exceptional in terms of quality. We both had the rhubarb dessert and I was stunned at how good that was, genuinely top marks. That was like something Tommy Banks or Gareth Bartram would produce. An impressive start, and though we don't visit Cleethorpes too often, we'll certainly come back to eat here.

Really disappointed. Went for Lunch on Valentines Day, really disappointed that there was only a choice of 2 starters or 3 mains. It literally only ticked the box of chicken, gluten free or pork as a mains. Or any type of eggs for breakfast menu ??? Can’t see this staying open. Pity as the staff were really nice. A big let down as I believe it could be better

We were seated straight away. The menu was good with interesting choices and not the usual bland selection of other restaurants. Food was delicious and evidently good quality ingredients. I had a delicious scrambled egg with feta , chilli jam and spinach on sour dough topped with sunflower seeds and my companion had the full English. Everything was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. The environment was really well thought out, good music choice too. The music was too loud , maybe due to the time of day and the echos in the room but the waitress turned it down a little straight away . A great place in Cleethorpes.

APPALLING BEHAVIOUR. We were asked to leave half way through our meal because the restaurant had overbooked and there were a number of people were waiting for tables. Upon finishing our meal and paying, it became clear that those waiting for the table had been told that we had refused to give up the table, as opposed to the restaurant overbooking and we were verbally challenged by a number of those waiting. We were made to feel terrible and the restaurant refused to acknowledge its mistake, instead allowing those in the restaurant to believe we were in the wrong. Appalling behaviour from the staff. To be fair and balanced the food was lovely (and it eventually offered a small discount as a gesture). The way we were treated by the restaurant was anything but lovely.

This was our first visit to this restaurant & sadly will be our last Pros-food very good-pleasant accommodating service from the only server on duty Wine was reasonable we scoffed 2 bottles but again lacked choice Cons -Very limited menu only 3 choices on each course We ordered fish & all 3 servings arrived luke warm! Minuscule portions -more like what you would have from a “taster” meal The veg sides also lacked choice & were small portions The restaurant lacked atmosphere once the other two tables left & our party were the only customers in there until we left Give the tap water a miss as we had a jug of water for the table & could-not drink it due to it smelling of “wet dog” yeah you heard right !!! Must be the pipes or limescale We had been excited to visit this new restaurant venture in our town but all in all a very disappointing evening that we had all looked forward to and we left the restaurant hungry …..such a shame

Very limited choice and only average food. The price of a dish looks reasonable, but by the time l you add potatoes and vegetables, it becomes expensive.

Absolute rip-off! The staff were welcoming and pleasant. The experience ends there. The food came in tiny portions. Four of us had lamb, two tiny pieces of which was just about discernable on a small plate. This was enriched by a miniscule amount of scorched lettuce and a smear of sauce. Potato was £5 extra. The wine tasted of vinegar and my cubra libra consisted of a cheap coke and lime at £8.50. Over £50 per person for a child's meal and very poor drinks. Never again. Haven't a clue about the 5 star reviews. Stay away.

Finally decided to try Nasturtium for breakfast after friends recommended it. We weren't disappointed! The restaurant is decorated with taste and attention to detail. It was only 0930 hrs and yet upon entering it felt warm and inviting. I picked the garden breakfast and it was definitely a good choice. Halloumi, avocado, mushrooms, poached eggs, tomatoes, hollandaise sauce ... all my favourite ingredients cooked to perfection. Whilst the price point is the upper end you can't begrudge this as quality products are used and cooked/presented with love. Can highly recommend.

I've given the restaurant a 4 star review. And here are my reasons. Myself and my family go out for breakfast around Grimsby and Cleethorpes on a regular basis. We try Brown's on the sea front. The serve yourself buffets, jonny doughnuts. The fisherman's arms. Top to bottom. This could have been a disappointing experience as it took us an hour to get our food. Unfortunately for us they had just received a difficult table of 12. Even so an hour wait for breakfast is a long time. We had a very similar experience in the fisherman's arms. With one very big difference. Their customer service was shocking. This service was very good. Which saved this review from being a 2 star review. The food was exceptional. And we were offered free drinks because of the wait. Sometimes in this business not everything goes to plan. This was one of those days. But credit to them the staff turned it around. What I will say is the long delay with the food created a knock on effect for the rest of the day. So things I had planned Unfortunately didn't get done. I'm sure next time it will be a smoother service

This little gem of a restaurant needs to be taken seriously. The fabulously friendly and attentive staff perfectly support a confident, young chef who is clearly going places . The taster menu was delicious series of treat after treat. A very highly recommended place to take your loved one, family and/or friends. Don't miss out before it becomes too expensive and/or busy to get a table!

Had a meal here on a Saturday evening at 7pm The restaurant decor is nice and the staff were warm and friendly but the restaurant clearly has some teething issues. My observations and feedback is that the menu descriptions are like trying to decipher something in another language and it’s not clear what you’re ordering unless it states Lamb etc and it’s a bit out there and not very main stream which I think could alienate customers and repeat business. The options are limited , 3 starters, 3 mains and yes…3 puddings. We ordered onion loaf and were told it had sold out …at 7pm so we gave the starters a miss and ordered Lamb Ragu for our main which was nice but nothing special. We asked about any specials and were told it was fish but it was COD….🤢🤮nobody eats cod in Grimsby or Cleethorpes as it’s full of worms or can be , anybody in a fishing town knows this unless you’re a southerner or a cat as that is what we feed our pets with or sell it to the southerners 😂😂. We ordered chocolate tarte and that was sold out .🙄 so don’t bother with a pudding either. So we tried to spend some money but ended up having a bargain of an evening It gave me very funny onion vibes and we won’t be back

Great place, felt I was back in manchester with the elegant earthanware bowls and plates which the exquisite food was placed on. We had a starter and main course, However which we had gone for the taster menu (we will next time) both were exceptional. I find it really difficult to find fine food restuarants with a relaxed edge in grimsby and cleethorpes that you get in the bigger cities - this ticks those boxes for me. I praise the chef for coming out and chatting with us, Jack was really interested to hear what we liked about the food and explained to my excited partner what tigers milk was. Jack - Many thanks it all adds to the experience. The location is perfect (the weather wasn't) We wish you lots of luck guys this place is a real gem. We will be in for brunch very soon, and dinner xxx

Visited here on the 10th July 2024. First impressions were great. Decoration of the bistro itself was lovely. Can’t fault that at all. We were seated and brought menus and our tap waters, which I’d like to add that the glasses were dirty and had white circular marks all over the rim where you drink from. When we were ready to order, the waitress came back, and I opted to have the “nasturtium full” which is their “full English” option. Whereas my partner had the garden breakfast. When the waitress came over to take our order, I asked if I could make a few changes to the breakfast which she said was fine. I don’t like mushrooms, tomatoes, or eggs, so opted to have these removed, and asked if it was possible to get an extra crumpet, and I’d happily pay for extra bacon and sausage which she said was perfectly fine as she would have done the same. Asked if they did beans, or hash browns (which is a staple to all full English breakfasts) which they didn’t, which was fine as it wasn’t on the menu, but thought I’d ask. The waitress who served us was lovely, couldn’t fault her at all. Food came out about 25 mins later. My partners food looked amazing, however I can only assume it was the chef who came out and served us our meals (hat, apron, t-shirt - completly different uniform from the waitresses). The chef served my partners food first, and then he looked up and down at me, and at my plate of food, and said “here’s the plate of gout !”. Now I think this is disgusting, this is no way to speak to a paying customer! Why would you refer to someone’s food as gout?! I totally get having banter in the kitchen itself, but to have the chef come out, bring my food and call it gout infront of the whole bistro was totally unacceptable and ruined it for me. Might I add this breakfast cost me £15/£16, for 2 tiny crumpets, 3 bits of bacon, 3 sausages and 2 black pudding!! I’m very angered and upset at the way the chef spoke to me, and looked down upon me for my meal choice. This is no way to treat anyone! I would AVOID if you need to make changes to their dishes because you don’t like something, or have dietary requirements, because the chef will serve your food, and make you feel uncomfortable for your whole visit. I hope you will be in touch to resolve this matter.

My husband and I visited here on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm. It wasn’t busy, just two other couples sat on different tables around the restaurant. The decor is lovely - but that’s about all that there is positive! The girl who served us was a little reluctant and just seemed to want to get away from the table as quick as possible. My husband ordered a coffee and I got a tea. The girl then proceeded to make my husband’s coffee, bring it to the table, serve the other two tables’ drinks and then bring over my tea. The gap of time between the tea and coffee was ridiculous and the whole part of going out together is to actually enjoy our drinks/food together. We also asked her for some orange juice, to which she replied "we've got no ice but you can have it if you want", lovely... The food arrived after around 25 minutes, the restaurant was more or less empty so I don’t know what took so long for two portions of essentially egg on toast. The food was underwhelming and overly salty, clearly the same utensils are used for all cooking and serving as the avocado from my dish was on my husband’s eggs royale too. The prices are not inline with what is offered. A little bit of garnish wouldn’t go a miss as I was served a single slice of overly toasted sourdough that could have knocked someone out and two sorry looking eggs on top of a hardly generous portion of avocado slapped in the middle of a huge empty plate, emphasising the fact it really wasn’t much. Again the girl serving seemed miffed we needed pepper (why is it not on the tables already?) but we’d waited for her to come and check us to ask for it but she never checked our table. Again, not acceptable when you’ve only got 6 people to serve. The manager/owner, I believe, was sat at a table with his friends drinking beers and serving himself and them from the bar. They were also swearing loudly and just generally ruining the ambience. I think that sort of behaviour is more accepted in a working men’s club, rather than somewhere that claims to be a “Fine Dining” establishment. He then also proclaimed loudly that they were “always heaving” which was ironic given the fact his table of pals was taking up a larger amount of chairs than any actual paying customers. It’s disappointing as we had hoped it would be a good experience but it really wasn’t.

This is one of my favourite spots in this town! A warm, relaxed atmosphere, excellent food and great coffee! It is a niché place to visit playing good musicand a Chef full of banter, there is no place quite like it in town. It has pushed me to try new foods and I cannot get enough. My toddler requests we go visit because they are his favourite Babycinno's. It is clean and cosy with parking nearby. I never have reason or desire to go into Grimsby unless I am visiting this establishment. I cannot recommend it enough

If you enjoy fine dining in a relaxed setting and live within 30 miles of Grimsby then this place is a must visit. The evening menu is innovative with a choice for each course. All options are superb in our opinion and presentation first class. Service is outstanding. A limited wine choice but the red is excellent and great value. At less than £100 per couple including drinks this represents fantastic value for money for food of this quality. Without a doubt we believe this is the finest dining in the area.

We had the set menu which was £35 for 3 courses. You might think that's not a bad price, however, even though it didn't state this on the menu the "snack" was £5 extra and the sides were £5 extra. The chef told us to order the sides because "you don't get much with your main" he wasn't joking! I had a tiny piece of pork belly with 1 bit of raw Brocoli so we paid £5 extra for a bit of cabbage! The starter was nice and staff were friendly but I did leave hungry and underwhelmed. I wouldn't go back and think its over priced for a small town like Grimsby.

Expected so much from this fairly new ‘bistro’. The setting and styling are really lovely and the staff all very pleasant, kitted out inline with the bistro atmosphere, really smart. I think Nasturtium is missing/lacking something but I can’t quite put my finger on it. It could be brilliant however, my friend and I both felt the menu was quite poor with little choice in terms of sandwiches for example. 2 meat and 1 cheese? We did decide on on the same sandwich but found it quite dull and dry with a few green leaves and a little cheese. Vegan menu probably what the area needs but still feel the menu is too restrictive and didn’t hold anything special as I thought it would. Cakes/desserts looked good for sure. Nice for coffee and cake definitely.
