Nakhon Thai - Royal Docks in Newham

5 stars all the way! This Thai restaurant is a true gem. The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish. The Tom Kha Gai soup was incredible. It’s a beautiful coconut soup with tender chicken that was rich in flavor. The shrimp dumplings were perfectly steamed and I highly recommend drizzling them with the dumpling sauce, the peanut sauce and chili sauce (ordered them as extra sides) such a great combination! The sharing appetizer platter was packed with flavor, making it a perfect way to start the meal. For the main course, the lamb and vegetables in spicy coconut sauce with sticky rice was to die for. You can opt for regular rice, but I personally love the sticky rice, it’s the perfect pairing with the rich and spicy sauce. The staff were amazing, so attentive, friendly, and welcoming. They even let me try the durian ice cream, which I always wanted to try, it wasn’t bad at all! And of course, the coconut ice cream and taro ice cream were both 10/10—the perfect sweet ending to the meal. I can’t recommend this place enough! The food, the service, and the overall experience were all top-notch. I’ll definitely be coming back!

If you're into food I would not recommend this place, they served the Pad Thai dish and it looked like wet slop with no care for presentation and the biggest giveaway was the menu does actually state "Thai style" so yeah it's not really Thai but in the style of Thai. We returned the dish and asked for Thai yellow noodles instead and it came back as if the chef was upset, black pepper from a shaker was thrown heavily over the dish, the spring onions weren't chopped and in whole pieces along with thick cuts of green pepper. (Photos included.) The chicken and beef tasted like they were pre-boiled separately and added to the noodles instead of being stir fried with them, the taste was extremely bland. We also ordered a Nahkon Thai Platter as an appetiser and whilst nice at first glance the Thai dumpling was rock hard and therefore stale a knife couldn't cut it, when we told the waiter he tried to cut the dumpling with a spoon and also gave up. To top things off we were asked if we would like another dumpling, why would we another dumpling that was rock hard and stale again? Don't come here because you're regular cheap takeaway is better than this.

Decent enough Thai food at a reasonable price. We got the chicken wings and prawn toast for starter and beef strip salad and pad Thai for main. The flavours for each were great, nothing to rave about but was still good and what you’d expect. The staff were friendly and attentive too.

It's been quite a while since I've visited and I was really disappointed. The crab didn't really taste of anything and the mustard? Sauce thing didn't go well with it. My rice was not fresh and was quite hard. There were lettuce leaves in my curry not sure if it was supposed to be on side but it was mixed in. And both dishes were warm. The plates were hot but the food was warm. Such a shame as the prawn curry was my favourite

Standard Thai restaurant in area devoid of good restaurants. Selected set menu for ease plus prawn dish. Waitress great - bottle or wine too sweet so was happy to change it. Food fine given that restaurant was packed.

Wir haben das Menü bestellt. Vorspeisen waren gut, aber zwei der vier Hauptspeisen waren einfach so schlecht, dass wir sie nur zum Versuchen angerührt haben. Hätten wir besser aufgepasst dann hätten wir gesehen, dass an mehreren Tischen um uns immer wieder volle Schalen abgeräumt wurden. Am schlimmsten war das Nudelgericht. Die Nudeln schmeckten nach Spülwasser. Der Tofu war ungenießbar.

The good: food is very authentic. Location and restaurant ambience is nice near the docks. Could be better: 1) prices very high for what it is. Even a soft drink like Coke is around £4.50, mocktails are about £8.50. Basic bowl of rice is £5. We paid £120 for: 1 sevenup, 1 mocktail, 2 bottled beers, 1 starter, 1 soup, 1 salad, 2 veg curries, 2 sticky rice, and 1 jasmine rice. Incl service charge of 12.5%. 2) be careful Vegetarian dishes might still have fish/oyster. They should not be allowed to call a dish vegetarian if it has fish. Luckily our waitress was sensible enough to warn us but I have definitely had those dishes before without being aware. 3) service got quite annoying towards the end, my teenage nephew was still eating and got asked 3 times within the space of about 5-7mins whether he was finished. In the end he just said yes. It was not even peak hours. I will probably still order takeaways but not eat in as with the expensive drinks and service charges for average service, it breaks the deal for me.

Pretty good. Well run place and food was in fact excellent. Only gripe is the rising cost of everything, with special rice side over a tenner, on top of the main.... Makes the mains £30/head with service. But that is everywhere now and not the restaurant fault.

We were first in at 1pm as soon as it opened after visiting the Excel for the Friends Experience. Luckily the food here saved the day! It was hot, fresh and tasty. The waiter even made sure our food was a bit more mild so that we would enjoy it more. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. I think our food literally took about 10 minutes after ordering to come out. Amazing service and amazing food. Can’t wait to come back or perhaps try the Eltham location. Love the smell of incense and the nice relaxing, calming music in the background.

Great food. Staff are friendly and efficient Great atmosphere Second visit and didn’t disappoint. We arrived late and without a reservation but were accommodated with a table for two. There is a starter with a min of two people ordering, but I am a vegetarian and my husband loves his meat! So we can’t share the starter designed for two. They allowed my husband to have the starter and changed serving to suit for one and I had the veggie starter for one. I thought this was kind, this has been a strict rule in other restaurants we have visited and we have had to opt for other starters. Husband had lamb curry and I had veggie green Thai Honestly the best Thai food we have tasted to date. Highly recommend

Need to book in advance for this popular Thai restaurant. Food is authentic and highly recommend the Jungle curry or the Pad Thai. Spice levels are pretty good, our group had both extremes of the scale and everyone was happy. Drinks reasonably priced for location, although not a wide choice.

WOW... friendly service very quickly seen to and seated a beautiful table away from the main crowd and by the window with a lovely view. staff were incredibly attentive as soon as we looked up for assistance they were there, food was fantastic absolutely amazing, came out very very fast which surprised us but was amazing none the less. cocktails.. "mai thai" is an amazing cocktail had more than one. we had the vegetarian starter platter, not very impressive quite bland and boring only good thing was the sauces and the "mun tod". we had the satay nuea with was fantastic. for main we had the "tofu himmiparn" and the "gaeng ped yang". for desert we had the chocolate pudding which was very disappointing tasted store brought. but the thai coconut pancakes were phenomenal. will 100% be back next time we're in london

Enjoyed it very much. We were seated at a pretty good table overlooking the water, the place had a really great vibe. The food tasted great and it was served pretty quickly. The prices were fair and staff were really friendly too, no complaints. Food is Halal. I would recommend.

One of the best thai restaurants in London with picturesque view. The restaurant Manager, Mr. Anwar along with his team of Stewarts (especially Mr. Vatsal) and Staff is so warm and welcoming that a dining experience at Nakhon Thai becomes a bliss. Also the food tastes lip-smackingly delicious and is sumptuous. A must visit place.

I visited this place with my wife last week ( Aug 24). First of all, we love our Thai food and have eaten it all over the Country, abroad and visit Thailand regularly. The location is very nice, the staff were very friendly, Thai music playing which adds to the atmosphere. HOWEVER, I will be very surprised if any of the chefs are Thai. We ordered Llarb and it came out within minutes, clearly not freshly cooked, was a soggy mass of shredded chicken absolutely soaked in chilli and a lot of red onions. No taste of herbs/ spices ie lemon grass, mint etc and was extremely hot, more so than you get in Tailand ( and they have it hottt). We then ordered a green curry : again no flavour of fresh herbs/ spices don't think there was any Thai basil used, was bland and very dissapointing. The rice was nice. Overall a very dissapointing meal and I would not recommend this place to eat.

Just wonderful, service, food, situation- can't fault it

The menu was plentiful, with a number of staple dishes expected in any restaurant with a giant painting of the House of Chakri. Amidst the backdrop of the river and the cable pods, lies a special kind of eatery. One where, despite the London view and the cost, takes you right to the heart of authentic Thai. Expecting a fresh, flagrant-inducing journey where a starter such as the satay nuea takes your beef into an avenue of sizzling flavours of rich peanuts (you can taste the crunch in them), to the mocktail that casts new light to ‘how sweet do you want your passion fruit rock star’. Then the mains arrived. While the chicken ped phad khing (a popular dish in Laos too that has the defining ingredient as ginger), had some array of flavour amidst the slight excess soy sauce, the sticky rice was the true star in accompanying its poultry sibling, remaining glued to each others grains even after the onions have long soaked on top. But it was the gaeng massamun that was the true rock star of the show. Southern Thai slow braised lamb (rated by CNN as the world’s most delicious food in their latest ‘world’s top 50’) with the blend of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, mixed with a dash of star anise and cumin with thankfully little bay leaf so as to not overpower the food like foliage in a jungle. Eat slow, let the coconut creamy thick texture soak slowly on the fragrant jasmine rice which would make your eyes water for more. The fragrant will dance around as you let the lamb tenderise in your mouth, and with a sense of dynamism reserved for less milder dishes, it’s a wonder that the seats weren’t fully reserved all the time when one walks in. Great views. Great selection of options. Fantastic Massamun.

I had a wonderful dining experience at Nakhon Thai Restaurant! The location is fantastic, making it easy to get to and perfect for a lovely evening out. The portion sizes were generous, and every dish we tried tasted absolutely delicious—authentic flavors that really hit the spot. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is warm and inviting, capturing the essence of Thai culture beautifully. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our meal. I accidentally left my handbag behind, and to my surprise, a member of staff came running out to return it to me. Such a kind gesture really shows their dedication to excellent service. With a great variety of dishes on the menu, there's something for everyone. I highly recommend Nakhon Thai for anyone looking for a true taste of Thailand in a cozy, welcoming environment. I’ll definitely be returning!

Excellent food and amazing taste.

I’ve always really enjoyed dining in this restaurant. Perfect spot on a sunny day as you can enjoy the area and end at Nakom for great food and cocktails. The staff understand the meaning of good hospitality, sadly something that is lost in a lot of London restaurants. My partner and I have dined here around 4 times and will most definitely return.

One of our favourite restaurants, once upon a time. However, the standard has done a total u turn. Went here tonight and the food was utterly awful. The service was awful. The restaurant wasn't very busy at all and clearly something has changed. Won't be going here again.

**Review of Nakhon Thai Restaurant** I recently visited Nakhon Thai Restaurant with my family and had an overall disappointing experience. While the restaurant is located in a lovely area with a pleasant exterior environment, the dining experience itself left much to be desired. We had booked a table in advance for six adults and three babies, Unfortunately, upon arrival, we discovered they had not provided any high chairs. This oversight made it challenging to manage the babies during our meal. The seating arrangement was extremely tight. As for the food, it was quite underwhelming. Despite being a Thai restaurant, the dishes lacked authentic flavors and failed to impress any of us. In summary, while Nakhon Thai Restaurant is situated in a beautiful location, the food quality, service, and seating arrangement were all disappointing. The pleasant surroundings could not make up for the lackluster dining experience inside.

Ordered take away through Deliveroo missed items from my order, the chicken was very dry and overall the food wasn’t the greatest!. I spent £50 for food for 2 people (expensive) and quality wasn’t worth it

Very friendly and attentive staff. Able to make most dishes gluten free on request. Tasty food. I had Thai green curry. Restaurant very clean too. Watching the staff clear and reset the table that a party of 8 had just left was carried out like a precise military operation.

We had a fantastic dinner here last night! We were a bit concerned because we arrived about 45 minutes before they closed, but the service was very friendly and they were very happy to accommodate us. And the food was top notch Highly recommend. We had the yellow curry with prawns- and coconut jasmine rice- wow! Also the soup and pad Thai was fantastic!

The food wasn't that great. It was like any other restaurant of that sort. Waiters serving did not look alive, and the atmosphere wasn't pleasant . Very congested.

We have been going to this place as family for over 7 years, the service has never disappointed us each visit was always better then the first, the food is delivered very quick, cooked to perfection, the atmosphere is very relaxing. They beautifully cater for any events. Any special occasions to your perfection. The staff's are very friendly yet professional. Would recommend to book table ahead as this place gets busy fast👍

Best Thai I’ve had in London so far. Full of native people, which is a sign of quality. Nice views too! Only moment - some waiters barely speak English, it makes it quite hard to explain basic requests. But it doesn’t ruin the experience. They make lovely cocktails!

Came here for dinner to celebrate for my partner birthday. I put in the special request that it was for a birthday celebration. Sadly no one bother to acknowledge it,or any dessert to celebrate. Service was horrible,the starter came before my drink. And the lady who serve us was walking around and do not bother about the drink was sitting at the counter. Given that time the restaurant were empty. Food is ok ,the lamb taste weird like some sour taste. But we can't be bother to return it. At that point our mood just ruin by the whole scenario. When we finish our food she walk around and just ignore our table again. Not checking if we would like to order anything else or take our plates away. Better just go else where with better service and a more variaty of menu than coming here.

If you can't provide quality delivery service, it's better not to deliver at all. Leaving the food directly at the doorstep as if feeding a dog is disrespectful.

Enjoyed it very much. We had a pretty good table overlooking the water, the place had a really great vibe. The food tasted great and it was served pretty quickly despite it being a Friday evening. The prices were fair and staff were really friendly too, no complaints.

The upper deck was closed and the restaurant did not care to inform us despite the fact that we made the booking a month in advance for upper deck. On site Parking as offered only to the favourite ones we were asked to park almost half a mile away. Food and service was also below average; will not recommend this place unless you want to wast your money and kill your evening.

Food is okay, conviniently located next to a pier. But can't believe I spent over 30 pounds for a lunch... it was just a stir fried duck dish, a bowl of rice and a Thai iced coffee

Had a great time at Nakhon Thai, hadn’t been in quite a while but will be returning soon. Food and drinks were delicious with a warm welcome and wonderful service from Anwar. Very good value for a quality experience.

Anwar who was the duty manager on the night became confrontational when asked about one of our coffees being served cold and another served only half full. He raised his voice in front of other customers and made us feel unwelcome. We had gone to celebrate a friend’s birthday and Anwar’s behaviour left us feeling unsure if we would ever return to the restaurant again.

The food here is amazing! Every dish was packed full of flavour. The som tum (thai papaya) salad was so refreshing with a kick, will be back again!

Recently moved to the area and brought my parents here for dinner. The starters were amazing, but the mains were way below average. Very very expensive compared to the likes of chains such Rosas Thai etc, with little to offer in return for the inflated prices. not very authentic flavours. Booze very very expensive.

We were a large group and they served amazing food

It’s definitely a different food compared with many times we have been before, tasteless and overpriced. Sirloin beefsteak served in a hot plate was 21.95, it was a bit burnt, tasteless and served with a lime sauce, it was too sour. Scallops was too sour and tasteless. The prawn in garlic the chicken in sweet and sour sauce were not fresh. Red beef curry was just mediocre, just the somtom was nice. We all were disappointed and of course we will never come back.

I visited the restaurant today on 24/02/24 and we travelled almost 18-20 miles to have dinner there. It was my anniversary dinner. The food was good. The manager Anwar is nice guy who greeted us and guided us how to drive to the restaurant when there are road works. Soup was nice 8/10 but have to say it is overpriced. Normally restaurants charge between £6.99-£7.99 but they charge £9.50. Dumpling & fish cakes were nice too 7.5/10 Green curry was tasty 8/10 and chicken dish was good 7/10 but the Pad Thai Noodles were too sweet - very bad taste 1/10. We had to send those back and replaced it with other noodles. The waiters need training how to communicate and serve the guests. When asked for tissues, he brought 2 tissues in his hands rather than putting in a plate or a tray. We paid a bill of £96 for 4 people.

Had a wonderful experience in this restaurant sitting upstairs. The service is second to none. Delicious Kir Royals and the Thai food is delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend and would return. Overall from start to finish it was amazing and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you for the delicious food and service.

Nicely decorated restaurant with a lovely view to enjoy while eating. The service wasn’t great, was not a busy evening and we were seated at the end of the room, where staff hardly take notice of you. In terms of the food, it was decent. I have personally tried better elsewhere, but it is a decent spot for a quick dinner date. - The jungle curry (beef) was spicy but lacked flavour. 5/10 - The egg fried rice was nice & well seasoned. 7/10 - The noodles tasted too much like ketchup, a bit too sweet for my liking. 3/10
