Booked a Saturday night Happy Hour. Service very slow but food very good. £3.80 for half a lager shandy? ? I did question this when Bill received and told it was correct.

To get a review you need to be open!! Don't post opening times if you decide to close 2 hours early! Me and my partner travelled as they had good reviews guess what.... they closed 2 hours early when they decided they couldn't be bothered to work

Ambience, nice. Staff, saw one only and she was friendly. Wasn’t busy when we had lunch there. Toilet, clean. Food, ok. Not bad but not great. Chicken satay was dry and hard. Did we enjoy it? Not really. Do we recommend? Not really.

A lush Thai vegetarian meal in Durham🔥 Went over to visit a buddy in Durham, and decided to give this restaurant a go. Happy hour meals are a steal! At £14.95, you get a starter and a main dish (the happy hour menu is the last picture of this post). Happy hour is at 5:30-6:30pm. Thai Basil Fried Rice Mushroom TomYum Soup Thai Red Curry I really enjoyed the meal. There’s a Nadon Thai in Newcastle, so it looks like I’ll have to give that one a go

To be honest, we booked here cause it was clear to our guest house and the weather was biblical that particular night. Well, we certainly struck lucky. We booked a table at 5pm for 7pm. On arrival, they didn't have the booking as they stop looking at emails around that time. My advice is to phone if you're making a last minute booking. We had tempura vegetables to start, green Thai curry, sweet and sour with coconut rice (absolutely delicious) and a sticky rice. All served professionally and quickly. Highly recommended.

Visited as party of 3, ordered starters & main courses with a bottle of wine. Food was delicious - in particular the fish cakes. Lovely service and very reasonably priced, approx £60 with student discount.

First time eating here and we did all enjoy the food. However we waited an hour for our mains which is way too long. We asked about the food twice, and the waitress said it was going to be another ten minutes because, and I quote… “the kitchen is backed up with takeaway orders”. Don’t really think this is an acceptable excuse as we were restaurant customers, and feel this should take a priority?? Only other comment was the starter portions are very small.

Amazing service. Somehow when booking a table online I managed to select the wrong date, but when we turned up they managed to fit us in anyway! Generous portions and a good selection of vegan choices

No option for rice on just eat, so ordered a few starters, tiny portions. Main came in small tub. 30 pound for starter.

We had the Happy Hour (2 courses for £15) and topped up with side dishes - duck pancakes were fabulous as a side. Tom Yum soup was gorgeous and mains were great too. The cream swirl and cherry on top of desserts was an interesting contrast to what was a really stylish set of dishes. Great service too, Definitely be back 👍

Always have really great food at Nadon Thai every time we go, whatever we order. Their lunch menu is particularly good value and their Tapas are a good way of trying new dishes. The staff are friendly and do a great job. It’s one of our favourite places to eat.

Food was good, and most of the service was okay. The service started to get a bit strange, when our waitress seemed reluctant to give us any water. Asked when we ordered drinks, none arrived. Asked again when we ordered food, none arrived. Made sure she had understood the request, and she had. When none came, asked the young woman who brought our food, and some arrived almost immediately.

Spontaneous trip to Durham from Middlesbrough on a Friday evening and this restaurant made it well worth it - amazing food, polite staff and great value for money.

We attended the restaurant for a family meal and felt the food was nice however, the meat (chicken and beef) was quite tough and hard to bite through (not a typical Thai melt in the mouth...). There was only one waitress on which wasn't great given the number of guests and we had to ask a few times for the bill and again gmfir the table to be cleared fir a family picture (we ended up moving to another part of the restaurant for a pic). As above, the food was nice, just not as tender as a normal Thai cooked meal. There was little staff on, and we felt this made it clear there was cost cutting, which essentially led to this review being not quite as good as it could have been.

Highly recommended, proper authentic Thai food with reasonable prices, a nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. Definitely the best Thai restaurant in Durham (we’ve tried them all), and we really love the desserts here too.

I’ve walked past this place countless times but recently visited with a friend and had a lovely night. The staff are lovely and the food is delicious. The restaurant is light and air. Reasonably priced too

Fantastic food in a great restaurant.

This nice Thai restaurant was walking distance from our hotel. It was sort of tucked away in a neighborhood on the way down a hill to the busy part of Durham. The food was very tasty, and beautifully presented. The decor was very pretty, with gold statues and colorful paintings about the place. The restrooms were clean and well stocked.

We pre booked a table for our 26th wedding anniversary meal. This was done online and we got a confirmation quickly after by email. The restaurant is tucked away a little out of the way but very close to the city centre. Warm welcome feom highly attentive staff, who acknowledged our anniversary and showed us to our table. We were initially put 'in the window' next to the wall but we found this a little restricted in elbow room. We asked to move and this was quickly and effectively done to a much better table. The food - amazing, just amazing. They gave us the option of course by course or all together. We opted for all together which is how we like it ordering thai as we love sharing plates together. We ordered deserts but in review we could have just got one between both of us as the scoops of sorbet were enormous! To pay the bill, we were told one of the deserts had been removed fom the bill for our Anniversary. A lovely touch.

Lovely restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. Very central, but slightly off the beaten track, which possibly makes it less visible to potential customers. Food is excellent, and beautifully presented. I just wish they would open a branch in Glasgow.

Not recommended! Poor service. My friend is a big fan of Thai food, she said the foods were not good. The saff treats guests differently. My friend and me went this restaurant and ordered some foods, but we would like to change some thing, the man said he can’t, the kitchen must already started cooking, without checking. He then went to serve another table that came in later than us, giving them water before us. When serving foods, he was shown nice smile to that table with kind words, but cool face to us. When he came towards us again, I thought he was going to ask us how the food was, but instead he asked us: are you finished? We said yes. He took the plates from the table straight away without any word. When he brought the bill, I asked for a split of the bill. He didn’t answer just handed the card machine to me. I thought he already separated the bill, so I payed. But he didn’t. My friend asked him, he just said: “oh I didn't heard that, you can transfer the money to her, it’s easy.” After that he turned away. Such a bad service.

Absolutely lovely food. Can recommend the duck pancake starters with hoi-sin. And the slices of beef on a hot plate were so tender. Servicecwas a little hit and miss..but overall would recommend to anyone who likes Thai food..

Best yellow curry ever! 10 stars.

Lovely restaurant & delicious authentic Thai food. We went early for the happy hour menu, 2 courses £12.95 which was amazing value for a city. We both had the Tom Yam soup, 1 spicy chicken basil stir fry & 1 beef massaging curry. Fantastic! Staff were so lovely, very busy but they gave us time 😁

We have visited this restaurant a few times and the previous times were ok. Last night was a disaster, it was pretty busy but we waited about 90 minutes to be served our main course. Other diners, who arrived after us were being served and...

7 of us ate there last night. We had an 8.30pm booking. We ordered starters and main courses and once they cleared our plates after the main course they presented us with the bill of £191 without the offer of desserts or coffee. When my husband asked why, their response was that the chefs had gone home! The food was also average at best and we will not be returning.

Our first visit and we had a fabulous lunch to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and very good value. They had warned us ahead of time that they were going to have a large party in but we need not have worried as service was quick and attentive and the staff were very welcoming. We will definitely be back; there are lots of dishes on the menu that we want to try and it was a great experience.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. Had been telephoned and asked whether we could come a little earlier than we'd booked as they had a large (Hen Party) booking which would tie up the kitchen which wasn't a problem for us. The staff were lovely and welcoming, very apologetic and ensured that we weren't left. Food: tempted by their Tapas (bento style fixed menu) which looked really delicious; but had starter chicken satay, spring rolls and tempura veg (all piping hot and very tasty) while we waited for our guest. For mains prawn pad thai- yum, chicken drunken noodles - beautifully chili spicy and delicious; and roasted cashew nuts with pork not as spicy as the drunken noodles and really good. Sweets- Pandan coconut stuffed pancake with ice cream - yummy, Sticky mango rice with coconut cream scrumptious and sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream. Drinks weren't too expensive and the decor is modern with Thai influences. Not wheelchair accessible (steep street, steps in) but toilets would be big enough and on the same level as the bar and entrance.

Great Thai restaurant- both the venue and high quality food. Visited on a Saturday night having pre-booked with my daughter. Restaurant was full but service was spot-on. We had a Thai green curry, sea bass with ginger and sides of sticky rice and Pak Choi. All dishes were delicious. I asked for the curry to be slightly milder which I’m glad I did as still very hot for me but didn’t detract from the taste of the food. Plenty of sea bass and beautifully tender with the sauce perfectly balanced and not overly powerful. Layout of restaurant is perfect with lots of sections rather than just a large eating area so it felt as though you were dining in a smaller restaurant. Included photos of menu at end of photos.

The floor staff were nice when we arrived but the man I assumed was the manager was very rude when I asked for some water for the second time after waiting 15 minute's. He replied “ you will get your water when I get time” his attitude was discussing. As well as that when my wife went to use the disabled toilet it was full of Chairs. They had made good use of one of the upturned chair legs and stacked the toilet roll’s on it. Disgraceful

Terrible service- was told there was a £10 minimum spend per person which I believe the waiter made up on the spot and got extremely defensive and rude when confronted about the legitimacy of it. Absolutely disgraceful way to treat a customer.

Visited in January 2023 post graduation ceremony with friends for a meal that was absolutely out of this world. Everyone in the party commented on the quality and taste of the food. Tom Yum soup authentic and delicious, Lamb Shank the meat literally dropped off...

Some of the highest quality food that Mrs P and myself have experienced for such a long time. The Beef Panang in particular was superb. All topped off by such a polite and friendly staff.

Thank you to the Nadon Thai Durham. We had a lovely family meal here last night in a relaxed friendly ambience - the service was excellent from polite, friendly, attentive staff at the peak time of 7.30 on Saturday eve.

We got takeaway from here, got the taxi home and had the meal. Waiting time was about 30 minutes for the food so wasn't too bad as it was a mild night and walk down. Food was still hot when we got home, which is...

Been twice now and not disappointed either time. We always catch it when its empty so cant comment too much on atmosphere but the decor, service and food is fantastic - especially at this price point.

was told it was very buisy..7.30 pm only..rushed there..half full..couldn't decide wear there were going to seet us...waited nearly 15 mins before we could order a drink.. then it was order the lot in seconds..starter fishcakes tasteless..when the main meal came the plates were cold..main meal was tasty but not hot..luke warm .had to rush it down while there was some sort of warmth in it..my partner asked for spicey..again it was hardly warm a not spicy..very disappointed in the service as not even buisy..food was tasty but luke warm very disappointed in this experience 😕...posted Sunday 28th 8.30pm..wouldn't recommend....2nd review..waitress came with the bill.9.30 pm.asked if all was ok..we told her of our concern..took our payment of £78.. minutes later an older lady..europian came a asked about our concerns..we told her..weve taken payment there's nothing I can do was her reply..this went on for 10 mins we had to get up a leave as she was prepared to argue on..its our fault for not kicking off for the luke warm food a poor service 😢.true colors at the end... really disappointed with the attitude.. put a dark cloud over what should have been the end of a great weekend in Durham..never ever again..avoid..no customer service at all..

Nadon Thai will be the first restaurant we return to on our next trip to Durham. We chose the set menu for two and it was great. Selection of starters followed by beef curry, chicken and cashew nuts, vegetables with boiled and egg fried rice....

Starters were inedible, fried squid was three tiny pieces of chewy squid wrapped in very heaven batter, veg tempura was the same, all very disappointing and unedible to us. Mains were ok but still not great, pad Thai was too soggy and sugary. Cocktails were even worse, we couldn’t finish them. Very disappointing. The waitress was very friendly though

We have been for lunch a few times now. There is plenty of choice on the reasonably priced lunchtime menu. The food is always freshly prepared and is delicious. The service is good. The restaurant is very nicely presented with comfortable seating and smart decor....

Called sunday lunch time for our first visit. My wife had a seafood dish with sticky rice I had a prawn spicey dish with jasmine rice. When they arrived we thought there wasn't much food. But we both were pleasantly full after we had finished eating. The food was delicious and the service first rate we will be back soon.

The atmosphere is ok, the waiters give great service, the prices are reasonable. However a restaurant is primarily there for the food. The curry dishes were well cooked. However the octopus starter was like stringy rubber covered in masses of fried crumbs. Absolutely inedible, possibly bad for health. It is not possible to recommend a restaurant, however nice the wait staff, which serves such awful food.

The good points. The main courses were nicely flavoured with fresh vegetables and sauce /rice in good proportions. Young staff were polite and attentive. Presentation was basic. The bad points. Owner/manager greeted us with "I've been trying to phone you all day" - no reason given. No smile.or welcome, very grumpy. ( meal was booked 2 weeks previously as graduation dinner, phone turned off because we were at graduation). Then hussled to table right in back corner. It wasn't full. I had checked their online allergy matrix, ordering food that was clear of my allergens. Also explained this to nice young waiter who wrote in capitals on the order and said he would double check. After the starter came and I had taken a bite he rushed out with a different allergy matrix with some extra crosses in red pen and said oh I think you can't eat that. The owner following quick behind removed the plate, with no word or apology and rushed off looking cross. Young waiter offered a replacement but everyone else was eating by that point so didn't want to wait again. Good job I'm not anaphylactic. Manager just looked really rude and grumpy, maybe having a difficult day. But I definitely wouldn't go back or recommend to a friend.
