Nadon Thai Durham in County Durham

Best Thai I’ve had in a long time! All of the food was so fresh and flavourful. Well priced and lovely staff. How is this place not packed out!!!!

The Tom Yum soup CHANGED MY LIFE. I came here as a student a decade ago and the food still blows my mind today. Love this place !!!!!

Set on a steep bank just out of central Durham - not sure of parking if you couldn't get on the street outside. Came with friends on a Friday night and were warmly welcomed. Shared 3 bottles of wine approx £23 each(lovely pinot grigot and montepulciano ) so a happy night! Gav and Karen shared a starter platter Daz had Thai fishcakes and I chose salt and pepper squid. Loved them all but watch the sauces - mine was very hot 🔥 and when Gav tried it dribbled on his shirt 🤣. Daz had a chicken yellow curry which was gorgeous but I probably should have taken notice of the 2 chillies on my Asian bay fish dish as it was REALLY hot and I had to put some of his sauce on to calm it down. Excellent service and a reasonable £160 with tip.

What a find. Lost in Durham and happened upon this wonderful Restaurant. Loved it. The quiet ambience, the wonderful food and the dedicated Staff. So good we wanted to book extra nights in Durham so we could visit again. (Unfortunately events took over so we couldnt!). We will be back.

I went to Nadon Thai for dinner. We were seated quickly in this nice restaurant, and given our menus and drink orders were taken. We were given ample time to decide what we would like to eat. I opted for the Roasted Cashew Nut Stir Fry with Jasmine Rice. The food was served quickly and was piping hot. The meal was tasty and very filling, it included a nice kick of spices and a variety of flavours. The staff were welcoming and everything was served quickly which was nice. Certainly worth giving Nadon Thai a try.

I absolutely love Nadon Thai. Amazing food and 10/10 service. I was served by Shaffina (Manager) and Lewis and they were super friendly and made sure we had a perfect evening. There is plenty veggie options and very authentic thai food. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Durham so make sure to book!

Called in one evening with work colleagues after coming off the train from London. The food was lovely, and I'll be torn in going for masaman curry again or trying something else when next staying in Durham for work.

Absolutely amazing authentic Thai cuisine! We had chicken satay skewers and Thai fishcakes for appetizers, then the Roast Duck with Thai Basil (fairly spicy) and Tofu Massamun Curry which were mouthwateringly delicious. One or two portions of sticky rice to accompany the main dishes is plenty and goes nicely. Will definitely be coming back!

The food in this place is good and staff are cheerful and polite

Me and my partner came here for the first time today to have lunch and we were kicking ourselves for not visiting sooner! The flavours were to die for, particularly that of the succulent duck and Tom Kha soup with chicken. We also thoroughly enjoyed the happy hour for cocktails. The service was very good and prompt, and the pricing reasonable among other restaurants in Durham Not to mention the atmosphere was lovely and calm with lots of beautiful adornment and artwork. We will definitely be visiting again soon!

I’ve been to Nadon Thai many times, and it’s always been very good. It’s my favourite Thai in Durham. Very kind staff, excellent food, lovely place.

Authentic Thai dinning. Large menu and good wine list. Friendly service. I had the Masaman lamb shank which was somewhat drowned in coconut, but otherwise the food was excellent

I went for the Happy hour and was alone. Generally being alone can already make things more awkward yet the staff continued to walk past me like I was a ghost! There was literally no acknowledgement of my presence after patiently waiting and eventually I had to leave because I felt such a lack of warmth and friendliness in atmosphere. I'll certainly not be returning.

This restaurant was amazing, the food and service were simply perfect. We had a lovely server named Natalie who was extremely polite and happy which is always appreciated. Cannot wait to go again!

I visited for lunch with my partner and we were two of five people all together in the restaurant however we tried not to let this cloud our judgment. Our food arrived within ten minutes which did not give us hope for the freshness off it. Over all the meals were lacking taste and quality. For the price and quickness of service it was alright however we will not be returning.

So.....we visited Nandon for our 10th wedding anniversary. We both like Thai food, we live in Durham so why not. First thing to note is that we didn't make any special requests when booking. So, the food, the food was good, not brilliant but good and for the value you couldn't complain. We had to check the receipt at the end which normally I wouldn't do however there was something on there that we didn't receive which leads me onto the service. Yes I understand its the service industry and we live in a university town but the service just felt all over the place, staff not knowing which tables they were serving, incorrect cutlery, drinks orders going to wrong tables etc. etc. The restaurant is in a decent location and in close proximity to bars which is handy but I did feel the restaurant lacked atmosphere which is not normal in an Asian restaurant in my experience, the décor was bland with a scattering of Asian references, lazy décor would be a good phrase. One last thing and I'm not sure what the restaurant can do about this is the amount of Just eat, Uber eats deliveries are coming through the front door and standing in the middle of the restaurant waiting for orders, off putting as we were near the entrance. My summary is that if you like Asian food but are on a tight budget and not celebrating any particular occasion then its fine however there are better options within Durham.

Disgrace of a restaurant. Cancelled my order after I waited 45 mins. Paid and not refunded. Don't order from here. You'll be let down on smaller orders as they choose their better ones

Been coming to Nadon Durham since it opened, noticed Mr Tim has left, has that contributed to a different experience. July visit we had Weeping Tiger, we've ordered this dish many times, but it was completely different. Normally the dish has thick slices of well cooked beef on top of tender cabbage, we had tiny pieces of rubbery beef about 3 pieces each. The dish was full of pak choi, courgettes,hard white cabbage most of it inedible. The last 3 visits the food has been disappointing, not a patch on the previous visits. So sad as Nadon was one of our favourite restaurants. The meat quality needs to improve.

Good restaurant situated near the station and the river on Crossgate and serving a very wide range of Thai meals at reasonable prices. Really enjoyed my prawn fried rice, portion was generous and prawns were of a decent size and plentiful. For £13.25, this is reasonable considering Durham is a tourist place and on a par with most other city centre restaurants. Service was good and the waitress was attentive. Regarding the ambience, very good with carved Buddhas, waitresses in Thai national dress and Thai pop music playing in the background, including a Thai EDM tune. I'd recommend Nadon Thai to anyone fancying a Thai meal in Durham and students get a 10% discount.

Smart tidy restaurant with friendly service and tasty classic Thai food. Book in before 6.30 pm to get the happy hour menu. For £15.50 get a main and a starter or main and drink. Good value and good choice on that happy hour menu. We had the Thai curries which were both excellent

Had a lovely dinner here with a friend last night. Very busy service but the staff dealt with everything easily, serving 2 tables at a time 😀 Delicious food, hearty portions.

Ate here on a Sunday,late afternoon(a lot less crazy than Saturday).2 couples,we had the Lunchtime menu,starter and a main each and 2 bottles of wine,£110 in total. Great value as the food was superb and very authentically Thai.Delicious!Absolutely first class service.Will be back.Well done to all,many thanks!

Lovely restaurant with attentive staff. We opted for the happy hour menu (5.30 to 6.30pm) which offered choices on two courses for £14.95 each. Food was lovely, including satay chicken, spring rolls and red Thai curry with Jasmine rice. All the food we sampled was excellent quality, and we will be back next time we’re in Durham.

Lovely meal in Nadon Thai. We visited early one evening and had the happy hour set menu. For the price we expected small portions, but they were large and the quality was excellent. We shared some satays and spring rolls for starters and then had the Panang Chicken Curry, Red Chicken Curry, rice and stir fried vegetables for main course. Lovely meal and great value. Well worth a visit

Service was great and the set meal for 2 was excellent and more than enough. Highly recommend this restaurant if you want genuine Thai cuisine food.

What a lovely restaurant, We were shown to a table quickly and although it was a Friday night there were a few available tables. We received good service, good food, good prices. What more do you need?

We are currently visiting England and wanted to eat Thai food for lunch. The inside of the restaurant is really nicely decorated, bright and inviting. The food was good overall and the service was friendly. I found it particularly positive that we were able to pay with Amex 👍🏼

Booked a Saturday night Happy Hour. Service very slow but food very good. £3.80 for half a lager shandy? ? I did question this when Bill received and told it was correct.

To get a review you need to be open!! Don't post opening times if you decide to close 2 hours early! Me and my partner travelled as they had good reviews guess what.... they closed 2 hours early when they decided they couldn't be bothered to work

Ambience, nice. Staff, saw one only and she was friendly. Wasn’t busy when we had lunch there. Toilet, clean. Food, ok. Not bad but not great. Chicken satay was dry and hard. Did we enjoy it? Not really. Do we recommend? Not really.

A lush Thai vegetarian meal in Durham🔥 Went over to visit a buddy in Durham, and decided to give this restaurant a go. Happy hour meals are a steal! At £14.95, you get a starter and a main dish (the happy hour menu is the last picture of this post). Happy hour is at 5:30-6:30pm. Thai Basil Fried Rice Mushroom TomYum Soup Thai Red Curry I really enjoyed the meal. There’s a Nadon Thai in Newcastle, so it looks like I’ll have to give that one a go

To be honest, we booked here cause it was clear to our guest house and the weather was biblical that particular night. Well, we certainly struck lucky. We booked a table at 5pm for 7pm. On arrival, they didn't have the booking as they stop looking at emails around that time. My advice is to phone if you're making a last minute booking. We had tempura vegetables to start, green Thai curry, sweet and sour with coconut rice (absolutely delicious) and a sticky rice. All served professionally and quickly. Highly recommended.

Visited as party of 3, ordered starters & main courses with a bottle of wine. Food was delicious - in particular the fish cakes. Lovely service and very reasonably priced, approx £60 with student discount.

First time eating here and we did all enjoy the food. However we waited an hour for our mains which is way too long. We asked about the food twice, and the waitress said it was going to be another ten minutes because, and I quote… “the kitchen is backed up with takeaway orders”. Don’t really think this is an acceptable excuse as we were restaurant customers, and feel this should take a priority?? Only other comment was the starter portions are very small.

Amazing service. Somehow when booking a table online I managed to select the wrong date, but when we turned up they managed to fit us in anyway! Generous portions and a good selection of vegan choices

No option for rice on just eat, so ordered a few starters, tiny portions. Main came in small tub. 30 pound for starter.

We had the Happy Hour (2 courses for £15) and topped up with side dishes - duck pancakes were fabulous as a side. Tom Yum soup was gorgeous and mains were great too. The cream swirl and cherry on top of desserts was an interesting contrast to what was a really stylish set of dishes. Great service too, Definitely be back 👍

Always have really great food at Nadon Thai every time we go, whatever we order. Their lunch menu is particularly good value and their Tapas are a good way of trying new dishes. The staff are friendly and do a great job. It’s one of our favourite places to eat.

Food is not bad, not as spicy as my expectation but was tasty. Children friendly!

Food was good, and most of the service was okay. The service started to get a bit strange, when our waitress seemed reluctant to give us any water. Asked when we ordered drinks, none arrived. Asked again when we ordered food, none arrived. Made sure she had understood the request, and she had. When none came, asked the young woman who brought our food, and some arrived almost immediately.

Spontaneous trip to Durham from Middlesbrough on a Friday evening and this restaurant made it well worth it - amazing food, polite staff and great value for money.

We attended the restaurant for a family meal and felt the food was nice however, the meat (chicken and beef) was quite tough and hard to bite through (not a typical Thai melt in the mouth...). There was only one waitress on which wasn't great given the number of guests and we had to ask a few times for the bill and again gmfir the table to be cleared fir a family picture (we ended up moving to another part of the restaurant for a pic). As above, the food was nice, just not as tender as a normal Thai cooked meal. There was little staff on, and we felt this made it clear there was cost cutting, which essentially led to this review being not quite as good as it could have been.

Highly recommended, proper authentic Thai food with reasonable prices, a nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. Definitely the best Thai restaurant in Durham (we’ve tried them all), and we really love the desserts here too.

I’ve walked past this place countless times but recently visited with a friend and had a lovely night. The staff are lovely and the food is delicious. The restaurant is light and air. Reasonably priced too

Fantastic food in a great restaurant.

This nice Thai restaurant was walking distance from our hotel. It was sort of tucked away in a neighborhood on the way down a hill to the busy part of Durham. The food was very tasty, and beautifully presented. The decor was very pretty, with gold statues and colorful paintings about the place. The restrooms were clean and well stocked.

We pre booked a table for our 26th wedding anniversary meal. This was done online and we got a confirmation quickly after by email. The restaurant is tucked away a little out of the way but very close to the city centre. Warm welcome feom highly attentive staff, who acknowledged our anniversary and showed us to our table. We were initially put 'in the window' next to the wall but we found this a little restricted in elbow room. We asked to move and this was quickly and effectively done to a much better table. The food - amazing, just amazing. They gave us the option of course by course or all together. We opted for all together which is how we like it ordering thai as we love sharing plates together. We ordered deserts but in review we could have just got one between both of us as the scoops of sorbet were enormous! To pay the bill, we were told one of the deserts had been removed fom the bill for our Anniversary. A lovely touch.

Not recommended! Poor service. My friend is a big fan of Thai food, she said the foods were not good. The saff treats guests differently. My friend and me went this restaurant and ordered some foods, but we would like to change some thing, the man said he can’t, the kitchen must already started cooking, without checking. He then went to serve another table that came in later than us, giving them water before us. When serving foods, he was shown nice smile to that table with kind words, but cool face to us. When he came towards us again, I thought he was going to ask us how the food was, but instead he asked us: are you finished? We said yes. He took the plates from the table straight away without any word. When he brought the bill, I asked for a split of the bill. He didn’t answer just handed the card machine to me. I thought he already separated the bill, so I payed. But he didn’t. My friend asked him, he just said: “oh I didn't heard that, you can transfer the money to her, it’s easy.” After that he turned away. Such a bad service.

Absolutely lovely food. Can recommend the duck pancake starters with hoi-sin. And the slices of beef on a hot plate were so tender. Servicecwas a little hit and miss..but overall would recommend to anyone who likes Thai food..

Lovely restaurant & delicious authentic Thai food. We went early for the happy hour menu, 2 courses £12.95 which was amazing value for a city. We both had the Tom Yam soup, 1 spicy chicken basil stir fry & 1 beef massaging curry. Fantastic! Staff were so lovely, very busy but they gave us time 😁

We have visited this restaurant a few times and the previous times were ok. Last night was a disaster, it was pretty busy but we waited about 90 minutes to be served our main course. Other diners, who arrived after us were being served and...

7 of us ate there last night. We had an 8.30pm booking. We ordered starters and main courses and once they cleared our plates after the main course they presented us with the bill of £191 without the offer of desserts or coffee. When my husband asked why, their response was that the chefs had gone home! The food was also average at best and we will not be returning.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. Had been telephoned and asked whether we could come a little earlier than we'd booked as they had a large (Hen Party) booking which would tie up the kitchen which wasn't a problem for us. The staff were lovely and welcoming, very apologetic and ensured that we weren't left. Food: tempted by their Tapas (bento style fixed menu) which looked really delicious; but had starter chicken satay, spring rolls and tempura veg (all piping hot and very tasty) while we waited for our guest. For mains prawn pad thai- yum, chicken drunken noodles - beautifully chili spicy and delicious; and roasted cashew nuts with pork not as spicy as the drunken noodles and really good. Sweets- Pandan coconut stuffed pancake with ice cream - yummy, Sticky mango rice with coconut cream scrumptious and sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream. Drinks weren't too expensive and the decor is modern with Thai influences. Not wheelchair accessible (steep street, steps in) but toilets would be big enough and on the same level as the bar and entrance.

Our first visit and we had a fabulous lunch to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and very good value. They had warned us ahead of time that they were going to have a large party in but we need not have worried as service was quick and attentive and the staff were very welcoming. We will definitely be back; there are lots of dishes on the menu that we want to try and it was a great experience.

Great Thai restaurant- both the venue and high quality food. Visited on a Saturday night having pre-booked with my daughter. Restaurant was full but service was spot-on. We had a Thai green curry, sea bass with ginger and sides of sticky rice and Pak Choi. All dishes were delicious. I asked for the curry to be slightly milder which I’m glad I did as still very hot for me but didn’t detract from the taste of the food. Plenty of sea bass and beautifully tender with the sauce perfectly balanced and not overly powerful. Layout of restaurant is perfect with lots of sections rather than just a large eating area so it felt as though you were dining in a smaller restaurant. Included photos of menu at end of photos.

The floor staff were nice when we arrived but the man I assumed was the manager was very rude when I asked for some water for the second time after waiting 15 minute's. He replied “ you will get your water when I get time” his attitude was discussing. As well as that when my wife went to use the disabled toilet it was full of Chairs. They had made good use of one of the upturned chair legs and stacked the toilet roll’s on it. Disgraceful

Terrible service- was told there was a £10 minimum spend per person which I believe the waiter made up on the spot and got extremely defensive and rude when confronted about the legitimacy of it. Absolutely disgraceful way to treat a customer.

Visited in January 2023 post graduation ceremony with friends for a meal that was absolutely out of this world. Everyone in the party commented on the quality and taste of the food. Tom Yum soup authentic and delicious, Lamb Shank the meat literally dropped off...

Lovely atmosphere, great food, friendly staff. Particularly enjoyed the basil fried rice and the vegetable tempura. Reasonably priced as well.
