Munch King in Rochford

The wife and myself got two cod specials tonight 22/12 we paid £15.50 the fish was warm and soggy and so was the chips pretty rubbish dinner this chip shop is hit or miss

I have family nearby so often pop in for fish and chips, most of the time the fish had been kept warm, so is overcooked inside, stopped having it, until we went one day as it opened and fish was lovely as it was freshly cooked, I know people don't like to wait, but I'd rather wait and have nice fish.

When ever I am in the area, I make sure I go to Munch Kings for fish and chips. I just wish they were a lot nearer to where I live. Their food is always fresh and absolutely delicious, plus very reasonably priced.

Tried this place, a long time ago. Nothing has changed today. Again stale thawed fish, cooked in batches and kept warm for however long it takes. Will NEVER. Return, fish n go in manners way near the airport cook fresh every order, never open after weekends and holidays, fish fresh. I drive past 4 fish n chip shops in Rochford to get to "fish n go". Will keep going there, I gave this place a second try, wasted my time, they do not care about quality.

I have lived in Hockley for over fifteen years and have just discovered this little gem of a take out. The food is lovely and fresh, fish cooked to perfection - couldn’t recommend this takeout highly enough - happily travel out further then local shops closer to me. Service great, and staff very friendly.

Changed to this fish shop when our local Hockley one went severely downhill in terms of service and quality. Munch Kings is similar quality except the fish still has skin on (I don't mind that) It is better value, friendlier and more efficient service, less waiting time and does not close at lunch time. They offer a wide variety of meals and also have good value lunchtime deals and smaller portion cod / sausage specials on offer all day. I have also used them on a couple of occasions for party bookings 0f 25 - 50 people. Food is delivered piping hot and well wrapped and organised.

Great fish and chips, crisp batter and moist fish every time! You can even beat the queue by calling your order in, so it's ready when you arrive.

Unfortunately the fish 🐟 and chips were not very nice as was very greasy but it’s a shame as they have always been good 🙁

So Lucky to have such a great fish and chip shop on our doorstep the owner Baris is always so helpful as are the staff . We often telephone ahead if we have a large order and we always receive the best fish and a.m. chips etc Thank you baris and staff

Chips don’t taste of much but the cod and savoloys aren’t bad. Nothing special about the place, just an average fish and chip place. Needs a refurb.

After moving from the Hockley area which has a fab Fish & Chip shop , was a little wary of trying a new place. However Munch King turned out to be a pleasant surprise , so we wont be driving to Hockley for Fish & Chips . You do have to wait a little as everything is cooked fresh , but surely that is worth it ? We were also told that if we phone ahead they will prepare it & so no waiting ! The hours are also good , as no closing in the middle of the day .

Well I was recommended the fish and chips at this shop by a friend ,well it really shows the owner has 25 years experience at frying . I am a difficult customer as I know my fish and chips and have had a few really good ones and some bad . I asked the owner to cook me a fresh piece of cod the batter was crispy and a good size , I loved the chips light in colour and crispy at the same time . " I loved it this is now my local thanks to all the staff

We have had fish & chips from Munch Kings quite regularly & they neve fail to produce the goods. The fish is superb, really tasty. Have not had better.Thoroughly recommend it !

He tenido muchas veces, todo el pescado es fresco a la orden, así que prepárate para esperar pero vale la pena. Puedes llamar con antelación, lo que puede ser una buena idea, especialmente hacia el final de la semana cuando está muy muy lleno! El personal es amable y eficiente y siempre una generosa porción de papas fritas.

Been using Munchkings for some time and can never complain about the quality of the food only chippy locally that doesnt give you a ton of grease with your food.

Never been in before but, being Friday, thought a fish and chips supper would go down a treat. One person in front of me in the queue being served, so thought it would be a small wait. Not an issue at all, I thought. But then another customer walked in who was clearly a regular, as both servers said hello to him and asked him if he wanted his usual. Without a hint of acknowledgement to me, he was then served before me. Wasn't a phone order as they asked if he wanted his usual. My fault for not being a regular. Couldn't believe the rudeness, so will happily find another chippy.

Really good fish and chip shop. Excellent chips and not dripping in fat like some other shops. Super sized fish. Good portions all round.

Friday is fish night and we usually prepare our own, but this time we were just too tired. So fish shop takeaway, drove here parked up went in. ordered two rock eel and one chips. lovely jubbly, just what the doctored ordered. Freshly cooked had to wait, worth waiting for will go again if we do not feel like cooking

If there is a place to go for fish and chips this is the place I always go here and nowhere else because nowhere does fish and chips like munchkins

1st time try, usually go to Fish n Go, in manners way, near Southend airport. Thought we could save time, as Munch King is closer to our home. Waste of time, fish was very dry, obviously frozen, then pre cooked and kept warm, it was dry and tasteless. Batter and chips ok, not greasy. But sorry, let down by the fish, it is Friday evening, very busy time, no need to keep fish in the warmer for extended periods, unless all is cooked ahead for an easy evening. Anyway we will continue to drive by and go to Manners Way in future, we have tried 2 other places in Rochford but Fish N Go is better.

Visited munchkins today had plaice and cod and i must say the best chip shop in town fish was outstanding service was fantastic and very cheap in price for quality of good food..... definitely returning to munchkins

Not much I can say about fish and chips but as a takeaway this one is one of the best I've had in the area not greasey and tasted great

Waited 20 minutes for haddock and chips this evening, with other customers who arrived afterwards gettting served before me. Chaotic service and problem with the till. When I finally got the food it was good, but nothing special.

This very popular fish and chip takeaway on the main road a mile north of the centre of Rochford serves up some very good food indeed. And reasonably priced too. On Friday and Saturday evenings it is queued out of the door so it is worth phoning through your order and agreeing a pick up time. That is possibly why the reviewer below had people get served before him. Be aware that it isn't open late at night and I have (hopefully !) added the hours to the listing to ensure you don't miss out.

One of the best fish suppers I've had outside of Yorkshire always fresh from the fryer and staff always friendly def worth a visit on a Friday

Have visited twice now and received a similar experience both times. Food is reasonably priced and average tasting. However the staff seem to have 'favourite' clients who get served faster. I was third in the queue, ordered (this time) simply two portions of chips. Two more people entered after me, ordered and waited. Another lady came in for one portion of chips and a battered sausage, and was served immediately. A similar thing happened with the next customer. The rest of us were kept waiting. The same thing happened last time I went in. We won't be going back.
