Mr Thomas's in Rochdale

The food was excellent but expensive. Service.. the young blonde girl was lovely and very polite. However, we were greeted (?! )by a rude older lady. Restaurant nice and clean.

Quick service at the takeaway counter as the place was empty at 5:30pm. Chips were dried out and had clearly been reheated. Disappointing.

Sit down fish and chips experience. Lovely tasting food. Quick service. Can get busy at times.

Large fish is very expensive and no bigger than one from a sardine tin. Very arrogant owner ripping of the tourists for fun. Prices this high last seen in places like Vegas, where the owner probably spends most of his time.

Ok, so, this place is by far one of the best chippys in the northwest. Yet! Why must we pay tourist prices? I remember half chips half gravy £1.50! Weekends I get the price hike yet on a regular weekday lower the cost! I get there’s a crisis and I get there is also overheads but still. £9 odd for a pie chips and gravy plus a bottle of coke? Not on. There’s a much better chippy in bury by the name rowntrees, for what Thomas’s charges for a meal you get two! And the quality is far superior. One note I’d like to add don’t employ staff clearly young and when serving are hungover, take quality over appeal. I personally know their are several people my age (mid 30’s) that would love to work in this staple of our childhood yet couldn’t as we do buisness and work hard rather than be a ritzy bimbo or a dopey hungover lad! Please resort back to serving locals keep the ridiculous prices to the weekends.

Best fish and chip shop I’ve been to. Driving past with work as had a job nearby. Decided to stop for lunch. Was amazing and not too pricy. Highly recommended

Fish and chips but understaffed !!!!

We recently bought some fish and chips here after a walk round the lake and they were so, so good. The chips were great, fish was great and our son loved the fish fingers. They had a good selection of items, even for kids, and prices seem fair. We also had a small pot of tartar sauce (not sure if it was made there or just bought in) which was really very tasty. It was a weekend lunchtime that we went so the queue was huge but it wasn’t a long wait. The inside seating area looked a good size although we did takeaway this time. Would certainly visit again when next at Hollingworth lake.

A very popular & busy restaurant/takeout chip shop. Food is so good we drove several miles to get a takeout. Speciality is their homemade pies, & they are so good. Service is excellent, friendly & helpful. Hygiene is fantastic, the place is super clean. Their restaurant does get busy, so book in advance & enjoy this lovely family atmosphere.

I've been going here for years, usually very nice food. Today, we got half portions and cold food. Staff don't appear capable of taking orders. Chief fryer just barking at staff. Very expensive too, are they new owners?

Sat in here now. The food was nice but some girls are sat in the back laughing and giggling whilst one of them coughs up Flem and makes the horrible noises whilst getting it out of her throat. I’m fuming !

This used to be the best in Rochdale.Last time I visited staff were being spoken down too by the manager.On top of this they have been awarded a 1 on the hygiene scale. Poor Form in this day and age considering the tourism this area generates.

First time visiting this place and it will definitely be the last! Came for a lovely lunch out with our wheel chaired service users. They was told they are ‘too big’ to fit around the tables and wouldn’t help/ accommodate with some dietary requirements. The server stood there and left it to us to sort the tables out and made us move when we got sorted. She me and my colleagues feel utterly disrespected and our service users 100% not welcome. Disgraceful small minded attitude! This visit was 29.09.23 at around 12:30

Went yesterday on the spare of the moment, food is excellent as usual but spoiled by service. We walked in and sat at a table that wasn't clean and asked the blonde waitress would it be possible to clean the table, not done. The drinks arrived and were slammed on the table and before we could ask to clean the table again, she was off. Dinner came, dropped on the table, and before I could ask for sauce, gone again. Parts of the dinner didn't arrive and I was tired of trying to attract the waitresses attention, paid the bill and went. I shouldn't come away from a place feeling cross.... will get take away from now on.

We’ve actually visited Mr Thomas’s a few times now and I can say the food is just as good as the first time we visited . We had the Haddock this last time when we visited and it was just delicious beautiful and white on the inside with crispy batter on the outside right down to the last bite , there’s always a generous serving of chips that come with it . The serving staff are always really friendly and with a smile on their faces, nothing is too much trouble if you need anything else during your meal . This won’t be our last visit,there’s many more to come .

Food was pretty good - what a pity that service was not. When I ask for a 'pensioner' meal I don't expect to be quizzed about my age - I expect a somewhat smaller portion for a somewhat smaller price. If you want to restrict what you sell to whom then specify that on the menu!!

Prices are too expensive for fish and chips, and potatoes do not cost anymore to grow than when they were planted hundreds of years ago.

Food was absolutely delicious. The special of cod and prawn fish cake was great. The service wasn’t great maybe it was new staff - we all need to learn. I paid for sauce and didn’t receive it. I had to remind the staff of the orders, they were so busy, as the food is so good. This area needs to be worked on, they weren’t really Bothered.

24 of us visited today to celebrate my mum and dad's lives. The staff were superb and as always the food was delicious

Food was surprisingly nice. Like the fact they let you put your own salt and vinegar. Chips crispy, tasty fish. Really glad we chose this place for lunch

My previous review was not taken in the way l presented it so lm rectifying it. Great overall restaurant. Who have helpful staff for the wheelchair user though one may have to wait for staff to accommodate you. Also allow all types of assistance dogs in.

Possibly the best fish and chips I've ever had 😋. We stopped for some lunch after a sunny morning walk with the kids and we all enjoyed the food. It can get extremely busy but totally worth the wait and the service is great.

Quality fish and chips. Fair prices. Just what you need after making a trip or two around the lake. Staff seemed overworked, especially the senior lady who had a stern prune like expression 😂 but gave prompt service.

Just been and got haddock and chips for the haddock batter to be soggy 🤢 Forgot to update that the food was also lukewarm. I ate it straight after buying it too which is abysmal.

Delicious chips, good service, good location. Chips fried separately to the meat which is a huge plus for us.

Always always get fish and chips from here when visiting Hollingworth Lake. Great food and great prices. Food is always cooked fresh and the staff are fabulous. Will be visiting again soon. Thank you

Was spot on, been craving fish n chips for a while now and it didn't disappoint. Salt n pepper squid was spot on to.

If yon't get your fish and chips wrapped up and Don't ask for a bag, they're absolutely delicious and crispy. The chips do not stick together like most chippy's. 5 stars 🌟

Collected food for 8 people. All crammed into 1 bag. 4 of them, fish and peas had been stacked on end and had strained themselves down. The only 2 portions of chips were missing. When 1 of us returned to get the chips, they wanted us to bring back the whole order for it to be checked!? Pointless. Didn't. So 7 of us had fish,pie or sausage, with chips for dessert later. Topped with the final insult of them asking 7 people to pack their food up and say goodbye to the 1st course for a while , never mind the 8th. Odd behaviour. Check your order in the car? Got the chips free in the end but I'm going to travel further next time

Came into the chippy the other day, absolutely disgusting service and I wouldn’t even rate it 1 star but that’s the minimum I can. The young chubby boy with black hair gave me the most disgusting service I’ve ever received anywhere, rolled his eyes when ordering, kept laughing when my daughter tried to figure out what to order very clearly towards her, and very clearly looked us up and down when we came in, was awfully slow when I ordered chips and a sausage how on earth does that take the time he took ????. Overheard his coworker calling him Dan, absolutely ridiculous and I will not be dining here again after how I was treated !!! 😡😡😡

Lovely food. Keep craving the hadock and chips.. staff really friendly when dining in.. gave children colouring to so to keep entertained. Only downfall was a bit chilly one evening while dining but I think it was a cold evening and not many people about but.. but other than that can't fault... speedy service too upon ordering food came within 5min 10min

1st time here with my daughter who lives here and had recommended this restaurant after our walk around Hollinsworth lake in Rochdale. The fish and chips were lovely and served by the professional and friendly staff looking forward to our next visit soon. 👍🏾

Food was lovely and the menu was much more varied than that of your average fish and chip shop. Will definitely visit again.

It's a nice friendly cafe, friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. However, as a vegan I found there wasn't many options for me. I had a side salad and chips because there was nothing else I could eat. If you could have a dedicated vegan section on your menu, maybe vegan Beyond Meat burgers and vegan No Chicken Nuggets that would be great.

went in for some dinner and dis not like the service there they were too grumpy and the lad that served me was in a hoodie and not on uniform like other person he couldn't wait to take money from me he also make mistakes on till which he had to correct so always check receipt would not go there again

As plaice was available, I ordered it. It was delicious, the best plaice I have tasted in a long, long time. Ordered a fishcake for our 11 month old grandson and it too was very tasty. The chips were tasty and the service excellent.

So sorry to have to say this but our experience of the service yesterday was shocking. We arrived to a full restaurant, good sign. We were rapidly approached by a server who stated there was no space. We advised that was fine we were happy to wait. (We love the food and visit quite often). The lady then said that she could not hurry people and there was no room. Again we said that was fine, we would wait. She tutted and swiftly moved away. How rude and bad for business can one person be. We decided to leave as there was obviously never going to be a welcome on this occasion. What's wrong with a plain old " You may have quite a wait, sorry for any inconvenience".

Absoulute vile for the price the fish was discusting I asked for a well done fish because who likes fish that's soggy what I got was pale doe tasted like flour and the chips wher really pale just greasey rubbish someone who asks for a well done fish cook it don't care how busy it is ime paying ime the customer or does this not matter because without us you wouldent have a business or don't you care about customers might be just kids that are working ther don't care because its not thers .would rather wait for it to be nice because at these prices now it will be going back if its not right wherever it will be .

Stop here regularly for our chippy as the chips are lovely, unfortunately the salt and vinegar is terrible ☹️ the vinegar is concentrate and is watered down far to much that it’s more like water and the salt I’m sure is low salt due to the excessive amounts I have to put on and it’s still like I haven’t put any on…. I now carry my own so am not dissatisfied

We arrived at 7:15, there were 2 customers in front of us. Waited patiently for almost ten minutes. When the lady came to serve us she said "We've got no chips left!" Why not tell me as I walked in then? Amateurs

Homemade cheese and onion pie, chips and gravy... Yummy! Definitely better than standard chippy cheese and onion pie's. I've missed visiting Mr Thomas's so was glad of today's visit.

Its a small chipy eat in or take away . . Think the man cooking the fish & chips should be more hygienic and wear a net over his bushy hair and beard .Theres no dought the fish & chips are nice ' however i saw the manager giving an elderly couple a right ear bashing just for pointing out a hair .they didnt want a refund or the food changed just an acknowledgment or an apology .the manager stated no one had Black hair . NO ONE EXEPT THE MAN COOKING THE FISH AND CHIPS .

Their large sized fish is £7 but it’s well worth the price. I was impressed with the size and quality.The fish was not flakey, more chunky. The batter was crispy and not overly greasy. It didn’t fall apart when I picked it up and even the far corners of the batter had fish on the inside. The chips were not greasy and the they were quite crispy and fluffy on the inside. The peas were nice and English curry sauce was okay. They also do regular and small size fish and chips. This is the best fish and chips I’ve tried in Rochdale

I went here yesterday whilst on a date. My namesake chippy serves great food and great service, well worth a visit!

Portion sizes are OK, large fish very good, and decent size, home made special fish cakes were a bit meh and bland, don't get served by the young dark haired girl, painfully slow, and i mean PAINFUL, the other 2 had served a dozen people each in the time it took her to do our 1 order.

We had the special for a midweek lunch, which included fish and chips with mushy peas, bread and tea or coffee. The chips were chunky and not at all greasy. Although the fish/cod was a little greasy, it was lightly battered and tasty. We also enjoyed the mushy peas. The lady who seated us, took the order and served was outstanding: friendly, warm and welcoming. She did initially forget the tartar sauce and bread but brought them without being reminded by us and apologised so sincerely that we felt bad. She truly is a credit to the cafe/restaurant . We will definitely be back for more.

Two people that entered the shop after us were served before us due to the pathetically slow staff member. After arriving home we then found that they had omitted the pie from one of our meals. This is the second time this has happened to us in the last four visits. How hard can it be to get, fish & chips once and pie & chips once, wrong? Not impressed 🙁👎
