Mr Chans in St. Helens

Popped in on the off chance on the way to a concert. Seated us both very quickly and with a smile. Ordered Dim Sum and 2 duck dishes as a main with salt and pepper chips and noodles to share. Food was excellent, hot and tasty and full of flavour. Speedy and attentive service too. Well worth a visit

We have been to Mr Chan's on a number of occasions through the years and not once have we had anything but a superb evening. From the welcome by the man himself to the unobtrusive and excellent service to the wonderful food. All the ingredients that make a memorable family get together. We shall return.

Went this evening for a birthday dinner and it was perfect, the food as always was outstanding, the service was impeccable and the boss Charlie was very entertaining. I would recommend this restaurant for dine in or take away the food is just delicious.

Firstly the service here was really good, staff are very attentive and are a credit to the restaurant. We ordered the banquet for 3, soup was nice as were the spring rolls, and the ribs. I felt the portion sizes for the main course chicken in black bean and sweet and sour pork were inadequate, we were also given a small bowl of rice for 3 people which realistically wasn’t big enough. Worth the £23 per head? No, the other thing I noted, it wasn’t the warmest in there, we had a portable heater behind us that wasn’t switch on. I won’t be in a rush to return on a bill that was £88

We've never been here before. We regret not finding it sooner. The food was delicious. There was plenty of choice for vegans and veggies, too. The restaurant was clean and cosy and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I have been with my girlfriends several times & love love love it ❤️. Decided to celebrate Chinese New Year here with my husband & son. It was an outstanding meal from start to finish. 3 chicken & sweetcorn soup, half crispy duck to share, salt & pepper chicken, chicken Cantonese, beef in garlic & chilli. 2 egg fried rice 1 portion of chips. Great selection of beers wines, and spirits. Not cheap but outstanding in every respect. We will be returning very soon . Thank you guys 👍

Came here with my mum for a quick tea before going to watch a film. We decided to go here because it is one of the few Chineses nearby that actually do gluten free food and as she has celiac disease it’s a good option for her, normally we are extremely pleased with Mr Chans service however less than an hour later after eating me and my mum were both having stomach ache. This was during the film. Once we got home i immediately went to sleep as it was late but then woke up being sick. Multiple times. It was most certainly the Chinese but I won’t go into graphic detail for the sake of whoever is reading this. I don’t know what happened with our food but overall I won’t be eating from here ever again after this experience.

We have been visiting Mr Chan’s since it opened many years ago. Our takeaway tonight was sooo disappointing. No pancake rolls anymore, only spring rolls that are more expensive and very small and uninteresting. The crispy beef was nothing like it used to be. We would never have guessed it was beef. Just a load of tasteless crispy strips. Everything has gone up in price which was to be expected, but the drop in quality was not! Very disappointing!!

Gluten Free heaven!!! They have a separate gluten free menu and fully understand about cross contamination. Thank you so much for a lovely meal keep up the great work. I would 100% recommend.

We have been coming to Mr Chans for over 27 years. We have had many fabulous meals with family and friends alike. We went for a meal with my two sisters and their husbands between Christmas and New Year. As always it didn’t disappoint. Food was excellent, staff were attentive and Charlie as always his charming welcoming self. Thank you for a lovely night and as always 100 % would recommend to anyone.

It was absolutely freezing in there eat with are coats on did look around not one radiator just a plug in heater ❄️ the ribs r like two pieces cut up really tiny to make it look like you gets loads but you don't. The male man that works there was not very welcoming bit of a grump but the other fella was really nice that worked there also they have a cool bathroom door but definitely won't go again in the winter months tooo cold in there

Excellent food as always ..Mr chans never fails on that score..ribs starter meat fell of bone tasty and tender..then szeuchan chilli beef, sweet n sour pork, portion egg fried and portion noodles..everything hot tasty and non greasy..served by friendly helpful staff

Lovely food and the most friendly staff! Plus an excellent gluten free choice! The first Chinese meal I’ve been able to have for many years due to the lack of gf options across the country - it was very good. The staff are all friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Mr Chan was very knowledgable and a great host and Darren was excellent in seeing to everything we needed and talking to us about the wine. Not to be missed if you are gluten free in particular as the menu options are great and you really don’t feel like you are missing out! Mr Chan can talk you through all the kitchen processes to put your mind at complete ease. A real gem!

We have ordered chinese in st helens 5 times in past year, decided to give this one a try, the special fried rice had a omelette on top mixed with various over cooked meats, the veg spring rolls where 2 massive things that you couldnt even pick up cos they where that soggy, and had broccoli in them, no noodles in them, the egg fried rice had no egg just peas and the chicken balls where tiny little pieces of chicken covered in thick batter soaked in oil, most of it went in the bin oh and the icing on the cake , where normally this meal would cost around 16-18 this came to 27, never again, wife was sick and i woke up this morning burping oil, disgusting

Restaurant quality food delivered locally. Food always fabulous, delicious and piping hot. Love the gluten free King Prawns ( plump & juicy ) with their special recipe lemon sauce. Also loved the vermicelli with tofu, Chinese mushrooms and the samosas are not to be missed!Menu: spoilt for choice including Gluten-free. Would highly recommend Mr & Mrs Chans restaurant.

We went to Mr Chan’s last night after seeing a recommendation on a gluten free page. It’s so difficult to find a gluten free Chinese that is aware of the risk of cross contamination and I was completely at ease with this place and had no reactions! I ordered online with an easy drop down filter for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free, then the owner rang me to confirm what in the order needed to be GF (family aren’t coeliac). I arrived and they clarified the order was GF and the GF food was in a separate bag. I had s&p tofu, s&p chips, egg fried rice, curry sauce and seaweed. Family had the lamb pancakes, king prawn salt and pepper and everyone really enjoyed it. Would recommend and it’s great to support a local business during lockdown :)

Yet another amazing meal last night enjoyed every single mouthful!! Usually when the main course comes out your disappointed after the starters but not here they are just as tasty. Can not recommend this restaurant enough and we just love Mr Chan!!

Fabulous Food and a lovely atmosphere. We went on a Saturday night for my Husband’s Birthday together with our two Daughters and Grandson.The Banquet was excellent, the food delicious and Charlie Chan made our night by stopping and having a little chat with us between courses. You are never rushed and are asked if you want a little break in between. The Toffee Apple desert is to die for too. It’s not the first time we have visited and definitely won’t be the last. Highly recommended.

I ordered a very large take away to deliver to family and the food was absolutely perfect. Since my husband was diagnosed with celiac disease he’s not been able to enjoy a Chinese as couldn't have have the duck but tonight he could have all his favourites and it was absolutely delicious, the portions where really big too, defo back soon

Before eat out to help out, for special times with family we ordered take away from Charlie’s restaurant.The food is excellent, the spring rolls are not to be missed. He also does vegan spring rolls & meals. He also delivers if requested. Now lockdown is coming, Tue for us here, may be ringing him again.Thanks Charlie.

Have eaten in restaurant before and food was fab. Had our 5th delivery since lockdown tonight. Had different meals each delivery. Meals have been fantastic. Tonight's was the same high standard. Over lockdown our group of friends have had some big birthdays and anniversaries which we have not been able to celebrate. As soon as this restaurant is open for sit in we will be booking a table and play catchup goodstyle.

Evening meal to celebrate ourv49th wedding anniversary...to be honest,wouldn't even contemplate going anywhere else to celebrate such a special occasion.As Ever,the experience was 100% what I've come to expect,and receive,from Charlie and his lovely staff....suoerb food,lovely staff,great ambience and excellent service.Absolutely unsurpassable in my opinion,and I've been coming here for 30 years,never once been disappointed.Superb attention to detail regarding Covid restrictions,etc,it really is s pleasure to know Charlie and to dine in his lovely restaurant.Heartily recommended.

A party of 15 people celebrated my father's 80th Birthday on Saturday 22nd August. Charles, the owner, could not have been more helpful. Not only did he open especially for us (they don't normally open Saturday afternoons), he helped with the menu and made sure that there was practically zero waste, which for a meal for 15 people is quite impressive.Excellent food was just a big bonus.Could not have asked for a better venue, tastier meal or nicer host. I ordered on deliveroo and it was accepted for then it to be rejected half an hour later when it was expected to be delivered at. Really dissapointed as it shouldn't have been accepted in the first place ,I wouldn't order from here ever again . Thanks for your great service mr chan

First time I've ever had any food from here my wife ordered salt&pepper King prawns and sweet&sour King prawns both with fried rice delivered very quickly it was red hot the prawns were massive and juicy everything about it was perfect quality quantity and extremely tasty definitely found a Chinese that's top notch than you for a delicious meal.

Just had a takeaway from Charlie's.Excellent food as usual with 20% discount for pickup.We ordered by phone after 15.30 and arranged a time slot to go down and pick it up at a time that suitedVery pleased with the deal and the high standard of the foodIf you are thinking of ordering at weekend - Please order in the afternoon for that evening to ensure Charlie can handle the very high volume.Thanks for a first class service and keeping the social distances in place.

Disgusted! We have always ordered take away normally charged 4 meals around £30 however placed an order for the usual, the food was summarised but price! Didn’t think anything of it until my husband check his bank account and he’d been charged £47+ for the same 4 meals! I emailed Mr Chan with our concerns and advised: “The cost of your present order follows the rules of our present menu- for pick up 20% discount and delivered at 15% discount. This has been in place for over a month now” No mention of this when I placed the order! I emailed him a copy of an old receipt: “ In comparison, your daughter's order is very much under charged in relation to what it should be”ENDING his email:”Restaurant's however cannot do volume, especially now with the present crisis, we must space orders so as to provide a safe pick up environment. Which is extremely difficult to make it work, economically.So this is the reason for the difference- according to our present terms your bill is correct.”Also need to understand Mr Chan you are currently running as a take away NOT a restaurant!!

Speedy service and delivery. The nicest Chinese takeaway I have ever had. The minced beef and tomato soup in particular was lovely. Not cheap but certainly well worth it. I will be back - please keep doing deliveries after the lockdown has ended!!

Went for a takeaway Saturday night. Brilliant safe organized set up for ordering,collection and payment under current circumstances.Having been a regular for a number of years to the restaurant the takeaway food was of the same delicious high quality,plentiful and piping hot.Well done to Charlie and Loi and the rest of his team for keeping going during this difficult time and for giving such wonderful service.Hopefully it won't be too long before we can enjoy your company again in your restaurant. Have used Mr Chans a couple of times since lockdown and they have developed perfect combination of either delivery or collection the latter using a very well thought out process to pay and collect without risk of coming into contact with staff or other customers.It is sad to read some comments expressed by "Z" whoever that may be, who clearly neither knows Charlie or the kind of relationship he has with his customers. I can only assume Z is either a competitor or some small minded idiot with designs on damaging Mr Chans business.On behalf of your real customers, thank you for your service and for protecting your customers through this sad time, and hopefully we can repay you when things relax and this virus is over.Great meal tonight, thank you.

Tonight after 2 weeks on lockdown we just fancied a Chinese, we'd rang all the numbers we had but none were open.my partner had to nip out for milk so he said he would see if he passed any on his way. He came across this one they followed all the necessary precautions but we got 2 meals 1 soup and prawn toast £28 he's either bumped he's prices up or he is still charging restraunt prices as the takeaway next door is closed either way absolutely disgusting that someone would try to make money at a time like this. The food was ok but never will we eat from there or the takeaway when it opens again!

Came with a big group of people (16 of us), we always come here for our meals out as we really enjoy it! We could set up individual tabs which helped avoid the ordeal of splitting a big bill over the table at the end of the meal. The food was absolutely lovely as always, the staff are great and it was no issue at all that we were a large table and we didn't wait any longer than a small table would for food. We'll be back again and again because we all love it!!

3 of us Arrived at 5pm. Friendly greeting nice choice of drinks. And okay surroundings. Starters was nice I thought we’re going to have a lovely main. We chose the £16.95 banquet then the mains came. The pork in the black bean wasn’t nice and some pieces was very fatty The sweet and sour well we got 4 tiny pieces each. The special fried rice wasn’t enough. See photos these were taken before we started eating. I came here because of the reviews I may go back to try again as my wife said with the soup ribs rolls crackers and the small main it was enough for her

Amazing service and incredible food!! I have never been to a restaurant where the host greets you in such a welcoming way. The owner Charlie, & the rest of the team were very polite and attentive throughout the evening and put us at ease. Charlie took the time to tell us about the history of the restaurant with this been its 30th successful year and we can see why!! We aren’t surprised why the reviews left are so positive because there isn’t a fault within the place, the food was authentic and very tasteful! If you are looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant to visit, Mr Chan’s is the place to visit!⭐️

What can I say, so many places advertise GF & don't deliver. Charlie himself assured me that the food would have no traces & he was right. So nice to eat a meal & not have to rush off to be sick! As always great food, well cooked, spotless restaurant, friendly staff and Charlie is always on the move asking customers if everything is ok, this man knows his customer service knowhow.

We arrived 10 minutes too early before opening time on a cold windy day in January. Though Charlie was a bit bemused by us knocking on the door he let us in and showed us to our table, took our coats and the birthday cake, and had a chat with us. How agreeable is this man, so obliging! Every member of staff is the same, smiley and pleased to serve. We had booked in for 5 pm, and very glad we did because the restaurant got really busy later. Most of us shared banquets, the birthday girl was vegetarian/vegan, and all of us really enjoyed our meals. The service is seamless, the food is delicious, the wines went down a treat, and it was a lovely evening. Thank you so much for looking after us so well, Charlie and staff!

Not been here for over 20 years, since I became Coeliac and I have been missing a treat. It has a substantial GF menu, and they don't charge any extra for preparing GF food. Never had such a great choice apart from Sweet Mandarin but I don't always want to travel all the way to Manchester, especially now i have discovered Mr Chan's on my doorstep. Already booked another visit

All 4 of us ate at this restaurant on Sunday evening and we were blown away by the quality and flavour of the food selection - simply the most delicious Chinese food we have ever eaten and now worried that our weekly Chinese takeaway will be a disappointment from now on !!

My partner & I had a meal here at 6.15pm on a saturday in early November 2019. We booked a table at 4.15pm that day. Excellent restaurant and service. The food is delicious and the menu extensive. You can eat cheaply and on a special occasion. All the tables were full when we left at 7.45pm totally full and satisfied. The 3 course meal including 2 drinks each and extras cost £50 exactly and it was well worth every pound. The owners are also very friendly.

My first time eating Chinese food in St Helens. We followed the trip advisor guide to the highest rated Chinese restaurant in town and we were not disappointed.

I visited Chans last night for the wifes birthday with the family, we did not book but were seated straight away despite it being busy.

Bit of a bold title i know! But i have had many chinese meals from many places and i have to say this place is the best i've been to.

This is a amazing find. The welcome from the owner was genuine and warm. The ambiance was positive and the restaurant was almost full. The food was plentiful cooked to a really high standard with the meat being tender and tasty. The staff were attentive throughout and nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant was welcoming to families and couples of all’s ages. It won’t be long before I’m back.

Excellent chinese restaurant and takeaway with a dedicated Gluten Free menu. Having spoken to the chef and waitress they are very aware re allergens and cross contamination so recommended if you are coeliac.

My wife and I visited Mr Chans restaurant at the weekend for the first time, the food was excellent, and the staff could not have been anymore helpful, or friendly. Mr Chan himself came and talked to us and seemed genuinely interested, even asking if I knew the dish that I had ordered, or was I just happy to try a new dish which I had not tasted before, he then explained what the dish was and how it was cooked. I had Mr Chans Special Yin Yan fried rice, and it was probably one of the best dishes of this type that I have ever tasted. We will certainly return, and would recommend it to everyone.

My husband and I visited 28th June prior to a show at St Helens Theatre. Restaurant has a very friendly atmosphere. All staff friendly and helpful. Mr Chan gave us a really warm welcome and took the time to chat to us and go through dishes on the menu. We ordered 3 main meals and a portion of rice between us which was just the right amount for us. Our food was exquisite. The king prawns were huge, juicy and perfectly cooked, our chicken and beef dishes were also excellent. Prawn crackers were the real deal. As for drinks, we had the house rioja which was very good and reasonably priced. This is by far the best Chinese restaurant we have been to in a long time. It was a pleasure to eat here and we hope to visit again in the near future. Would definitely recommend. Thank you to Mr Chan for a lovely experience.

This was the first time my husband and 13yr old daughter had been to Mr Chans. Firstly we received the most pleasant welcome from Charlie who showed us to our table and went through the menu asking my husband what he didn’t like to eat also asking my daughter the same. We decided to go for the banquet for myself and my husband. Charlie did say we could change some of the dishes within in reason he also suggested our daughter try some of the banquet before deciding what she wanted. We were not disappointed the food was excellent and so was the service. Fab place to eat , great atmosphere, great service and great food.

A great meal for two and we went for the one of the banquets. This restaurant has been established for years and is well known and never disappoints. The staff are really friendly and not over the top trying to flog you more stuff as some other restaurants in the area do.

Went for a meal here yesterday and as usual the food, service and atmosphere was excellent. I am not a great fan of Chinese food except when I go here and then I always enjoy every dish. The variety on the menu is great and the banquets are delicious. Every customer is greeted by Charlie and he makes sure you are comfortable and happy. He is happy to give advise about food if you wish and make recommendations. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful as well as smiley and want to make sure you are enjoying your evening. I highly recommend this restaurant.
