Mother Hubbard's in Nottingham

Very basic cold eating area. Nothing special. Thought it was going to be something really nice.

Very disappointed with the food and service. Picked up a lunch for myself and a colleague on our way to a job. Whilst eating it I found what looked like a pube in the curry sauce that I had poured over my chips. I would have brought it back but I was on the other side of the city by the time I managed to start eating my food. I sent an email directly to Mother Hubbards of the issue and received no response at all so after 2 weeks I’m writing this review.

Food always tastes amazing. The service could do with improvement and the tables need cleaning more sadly. They are always sticky and dirty

Haven’t tasted a proper traditional fish & chip shop in AGES.. finally found the BEST one around. travelled 40 minutes just to try their battered chips and they are unmatched!! Definitely recommend 10/10 food 10/10 service

Did not know about delivery number so took a while to find .was not pointed out when I ordered

our fish arrived burnt. we specifically called as this has happened previously when we ordered but when we go in store it is cooked well so we explained this and requested for them to ensure it was not burnt despite this it still arrived burnt. I sent images of this and explained the situation but they refused to help. beyond disappointing!

The tastiest fish and chips I've ever had. Delicious crunchy batter and really generous portions. Highly recommended. The mushy peas, however, are quite bland and watery. Not so keen on them.

Not great chips had all black marks on them like bruised potatoes used , were still hard , sausage had all hard grit in , wouldn’t order again

Omg ...we always have the 4 fish bites chips and side ....the fish bites are massive its all cooked fresh so a little wait but well worth it....they are gorgeous every single time weve been ...always a table free to sit at aswell

I ordered two haddock and some other items. The fish was clearly frozen had no taste and also turned up cold. This place are awful if you want good fish and chips. There’s only one place to go and that’s The Cod Scallops. This place is not cheap, so please don’t waste your money as it’s only slightly more at the place I just mentioned.

I didn’t get what I ordered I got someone else’s I don’t eat meat so it went in the bin I need a refund

There's strangely few fish and chips shops in this area, and this one is still one of the best. Portion size great, seating area is always clean, private, and pretty quick service

First time at mother Hubbard beachdale the food was amazing the best fillet fish sandwich I've ever had. The fish was chunky and the batter crispy. My husband and I took our grandson who enjoyed his meal as well. Very quiet in there maybe because it was just coming up to 12. Great service will definitely be going back again. The fish was even better than tuckers at matlock bath. No more travelling 20 miles for our favourite fish and chips.

I dont usually put 1 star but here i do. First of all, the chips are drier than the sahara desert, its overpriced, they can't hear "4 fish and chips" even though they serve it every day. Somethings wrong with their card machine because the pin doesn't work when its right. The place is always dirty when i enter and the people are weird and disrespectful in general.

Fish chips and mushy peas on a Sunday I’ve never wanted to do this but my partner fancied it after going to the pictures the fish wasn’t over battered chips were just cooked right and the mushy peas were what you would expect we ate in and our food was brought to us very friendly and polite service well done guys

The fish was very oily, and the chips seemed dry almost as if they were from earlier in the day. Very poor this time as they’re usually top notch.

The standard of the food was absolutely woeful described on the menu as special fish and chips when the food arrived the chips was dry and cold which gave the impression that the chips had been cooked the previous day. And for the fish only half the fish was battered and even that was peeling off as soon as you picked up the fish. The mushy peas and curry sauce was stone cold absolutely dreadful.

I’m not sure what has happened to this Chip shop but it’s safe to say the food has gone down hill. Ordered chips and mushy peas with a sausage….surely you can’t get that wrong. Well the chips tasted like had been sat there for days, the sausage was cremated…literally looked rock hard and had no taste it had been fried that much. The peas tasted like I was eating pure salt. Very disappointed. The service was absolutely fine…I gave the service only a 3 star because staff should never have served the sausage from the way it looked and realistically should have thrown it away and got a different one before wrapping it up. Such a shame…the only decent item I spent my money on was the can of pop I brought.

spicy gravy was nice but the chips were cold.

Went on Saturday lunch time. Ordered fish gougon deal £7.95 I think. Chips were very nice. Unfortunately the fish gougon s weren't of the same quality. They appeared to have been split in half length ways to the extent the battery was thicker than the fish. Disappointing because previously have had a good experience. When the management start little tricks like that to save a few quid I'll take my trade elsewhere.

The fish was good, but the burnt oil and batter it was cooked in kind of ruined it.

Just popped in on after having a craving for fish and chips. The staff serving were incredible..helped me to choose between the different options and explained the best deals for me to have. Fish was cooked fresh and tasted delicious, honestly have had a lovely meal and can't understand the negative reviews.

fish cake burger was fine, the spicy fish burger was burnt so all I could taste was bitterness and spice.

We visited and ordered mushy peas with our meals in store, took it home to eat. To find there was a stone yes a stone in the peas!!! Photo attached. I'm so glad it was a adult family member who ate it and not a child who could have choked. Absolutely unacceptable?? Chips where also undercooked. Wished we hadn't wasted our time or money and it's a shame you cannot give zero stars. Avoid avoid avoid

The chips were hard maybe using cheap potatoes more than half the chips were hard , grilled fish which was very very pricy never turned up the spicy burger was the only thing that was good and tasty I would never try again and waste my money this place is not good the one in Bradford is a lot better,my mates did say to me don’t try it it’s not good I wanted to judge it myself and Thier were right

I will never buy any fish of this place ever again because the fish is either undercooked, or burnt… Even when they manage to fry fish perfect I’ve had it cold.. so basically for £10 fish and chips.. we customers are paying £10 for chips as the fish goes straight in the bin.. I will never attend this place again.. I have attached picture of their burnt overcooked fish I brought a scallop in a bun for £2 for someone recently and the potatoe in the bun was raw and crunchy, if they cannot get a £2 order right then god help them with the rest of there menu!

Overall absolutely spectacular experience. All food was fresh and perfectly cooked. Chicken bites: For something on the saver menu, this was amazing. £2 but honesty tastier chicken than KFC, the workers also generously gave way more pieces than was advertised which is always amazing. 4.5/5 🌟 Curry sauce and sauces: For the price, the sauces are incredible in size. The curry sauce was well balanced and perfect temperature. 4.5/5 🌟 Chips: The chips were lovely, while not completely frier fresh, they were still fresh and very nice. 4/5 🌟 Special Fish: Singly the best cooked, crispiest and freshest fish I've ever had from any chip shop. Enough said. 5/5 🌟 Spicy Chicken burger: Fresh and crisp, well cooked and delicious. Again, much better than KFC and well worth the cost. 4.5/5 🌟 Overall cost: £21.34 Overall very enjoyable food and one of the best places I've eaten in the Nottingham area. Final Score: 4.8/5 🌟

The food used to be really good but recently it’s been awful, I wish they sorted it out,if the fryer can’t fry get him out pronto. Chips are usually good but the fish needs addressing and it is either the prep or the fryer is useless. It’s a choice to give good food or give whatever comes. Fish and chips is simple business fresh fish is a must and fresh potatoes and quality checked.

I ordered a Spicy fish a chips and it was 10/10 as usual. Never disappoints, would defo recommend if you want a twist on your classic fish and chips.

From all the mother hubbards I have been to, this ones near the bottom, for their classic fish and chips. The batter on the fish was one of the worst, half the batter just flaked off by just picking it up..the fish was nice and fresh..but the guy frying the fish has definitely got the batter mixture wrong, and needs saving! The fiery fish was nice and the chips were ok. The service from the lady on the till was fantastic. Also to add the drink selection was also really dire and needs major improvement, it was Barr cola, Barr lemonade and Tango orange. I know you are boycotting pepsi co and coca cola products, but would have have been nice to see a variety added i.e such as Irn bru, vimto rubicon drinks, and just orange juice.

Took my family out for a bank holiday meal and I was met by Ali and Sarah who took great care of us and ensured we received the food in a timely manner and provided excellent service and made sure all our needs were catered for. Definitely recommend to anyone who is craving a fish and chips and wants to guarantee to receive excellent service. Thank you guys

my son decided to try the XXL fish and chips and it was very disappointing. instead of one really large fish he received 2 normal sized one, put them together and that wouldn't be the XXL, also, even though the fish had a nice taste it was dry, how do you do that. won't be trying this again.
