Have passed this place quite often when visiting Dumfries. I had never popped in as the shopfront is a little uninspiring. However, I was wrong as I finally went in today and the food and service was first class. Prices were good too. No more passing by when next in the town. Straight to Molly Mae's Tea Room.

I usually enjoy eating here but my last visit was a bit uncomfortable. The waitress was friendly and took our order quickly. After a while our food was served which was fine but 5 minutes later and no sign of our drinks.I called to the waitress who looked like a rabbit caught in headlights and she asked a colleague to bring us our drinks.I wasn't rude but i think she was a little upset as she spoke to her boss and she was gesturing and glancing in my direction. Not sure if i want to go back.

Wonderful breakfast and staff. Not one of the more fashionable places to eat but good home cooked food at very reasonable prices. I would choose this over a trendy overpriced cafe any day.

Aside from Starbucks, there is an absence of cafes in the High Street, Dumfries. Best to head along Queensberry Street which runs parallel and where there are a few “independent” ones. On this occasion, midweek at around 1pm I had used the car park at Loreburn Street so I popped into nearby Molly May’s for lunch. The surroundings are very functional but it is clearly a popular place and I only managed to get a table next to the door - not so good on a chilly day when people linger there on arrival and departure. The menu has a typical range of soups, sandwiches and light bites, the prices are reasonable and it’s open for breakfast and lunch. I ordered a bacon and brie Panini and an Americano coffee and didn’t have to wait too long for these to be served. The Panini was accompanied with some lettuce, coleslaw and crisps. The bread seemed only lightly toasted, but the bacon was lean, the cheese suitably gooey and the salad fine so no complaints. The coffee was large and tasted okay. Overall cost £8.85. On the day the café appeared to be popular mainly with females in pairs and females with children although there were also a few couples. The staff seemed friendly and I got the impression that there were a few regulars on first name terms. Overall it’s serves the purpose and obviously has a loyal customer base. Difficult to score but seems more average than very good to me to be honest. I’ll give “Mrs Green’s Tearoom“, next to the Midsteeple, a try next time for comparison purposes.

Me and my mates stumbled across this lovely little tea room. We arrived about 20 minutes before close but the staff let us in and we ordered our lunch. I opted for Jacket potato cheese and beans and it was perfect. I got a shortbread biscuit to take away, it was amazing! The staff was so friendly, helpful and welcoming. I highly recommend visiting this place, even if it’s for a tea and a tasty cake.

A local shopkeeper recommended Molly May's and my friend and I loved our lunch. This lovely tea room is the perfect cafe. Friendly and attentive staff welcome you and make you feel at home. The menu offers a wide choice of tasty dishes at good prices. Potato soup, cheese and tomato sandwich and roll and links sausage were all great. Tea is served in a proper pot and hot water accompanies it. Molly May's is just so civilised and pleasurable - can't wait to come back.

Today was our first ever visit to Dumfries and it just happened to be lunchtime. A friendly local had recommended Molly Mays as firstly she said it was good food and also we were a stone's throw from it. Around two minutes later we were at the door and almost immediately met by a friendly and welcoming lady. She showed us to a nearby table and brought the menus. The cafe itself has a comfortable environment with a fresh and clean interior. Breakfasts are available until 1130 but this was around 1230 and we chose afternoon tea although we could have had a good variety of hot and cold snacks. Our order consisted of a round of sandwiches each, scones with clotted cream and jam and last but not least various cakes. Tea or coffee for drinks. All that for£9 each. Amazing. I could go on for ages about the place and the ladies who serve there but needless to say I recommend Molly Mays.

This cafe has a really distinctive menu for its size with a choice of meat- fish- and plant-based dishes. They were extremely attentive to a very unusual dietary issue which involved them adapting several elements of one of their menu items. Both waiter and chef spoke to me before we settled on a dish. This was all handled in really friendly manner.
