Moffat House Restaurant in Dumfries & Galloway

We've been here for Sunday lunch twice, the first time it was excellent and worthy of a five star review. The chicken was succulent, the vegetables were fresh, we both had three courses and couldn't fault anything. The surroundings are lovely and the staff friendly and helpful. We were very excited to come back, which we did a couple of weeks later - driving for two hours to get there. Unfortunately, it was almost unrecognisable. I suspect the food had been dished up early and left somewhere warm. The chicken was dry and everything was salty. The staff were very friendly, but the meal was really disappointing. We will give it another go, in the hope that last time was an anomaly, and because it was so good first time. But if the next one is the same as the previous one we won't be back.

Absolutely beautiful place, very picturesque. Food has got to be the best I’ve had. Full of flavour. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Recommend anyone to go here for food. You will not be disappointed.

Enjoyed a lovely morning coffee with cream scone here, and was delighted with the welcome, the staff, the surroundings and the reasonable prices. Will certainly go again.

Called in for Sunday lunch. Friendly welcome from the front of house staff. Found us a table in the dining room (walk in no booking). Very nice atmosphere, beautiful decor and very clean. Waiting on staff were smartly dressed and professional. Nice clear menu. Food was very well presented, piping hot and very tasty. Coffee was served in the sun lounge afterwards. A very enjoyable visit. Highly recommended and will return again when we are in the area.

Excellent evening meal and staff very friendly and welcoming. Have been several times now when visiting family in the area, the restaurant and bar areas are lovely areas to relax as well.

Didn't stay in the hotel but had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Menu was tight but very understandable during the winter but this in no way affected the quality of the food. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our 3 courses, my pork fillet was delicious and I had to agree with our waiter that the sticky toffee pudding was one of the best we had tasted. Very friendly and efficient service without being intrusive. Also had a relaxing drink in the cosy bar where the prices were very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend a visit to Moffat House.

Lovely hotel first class service nice food and very reasonable prices.

Wow wow wow wow I’ve had mushroom soup many times before but this was on another level. Seasoned to perfection and decadent. Compliments to the kitchen staff and the FOH staff were excellent. We would definitely recommend this place for food and style.

Love coming here when we are at Moffat Campsite - the food is fantastic and the staff are so friendly and approachable - only downside is the two old codgers singing on a Sunday afternoon - this is 2024 not 1974 and the music is dire - there's more music than Blues - every Sunday we are here so are they and it's depressing

In Moffat town centre. Impressive building, Adams design, and recently extensively refurbished. Good food and bar meals. Great for a coffee or a drink at the bar.

Dining Room Experience: First class food, superby cooked, well presented, and served by friendly, accomodating staff. A 'fine dining' experience. Staff really friendly, helpful and pleasant; nothing was any trouble.

We were at the Moffat campsite and came here every day. Best place in Moffat. The food is amazing! Staff are so welcoming and friendly. And all so dog friendly, we had dinner a la carte menu with our dog at our feet in a beautiful garden room. The whole hotel has a warm, relaxing feel and is beautifully decorated. And it has the cheapest drink in town. Can't recommend enough.

Food was good and reasonably priced. Bar area is lovely and there was live music (Sunday afternoon) which was a nice surprise.

Dropped in a couple of times for coffee, teas and drinks. Very comfortable, friendly and relaxing.

A last minute dinner stop right before last orders, they were so friendly and accommodating, the food was amazing and so fresh and beautifully prepared, the staff were so lovely, definitely be back!

On Holiday in Moffat popped in for lunch. Korean chicken, Ceasar salad excellent 😋 Service was very impressive. Lovely decor belive it's just been refurbished. Sat in the conservatory with the 🐕 made most welcome with a dog bowl.

Room 15, upstairs and not the largest hotel room we've ever been in but clean and nicely decorated with a good sized en suite and a decent shower. They have a very good kitchen and the food produced was of a high standard, those guys know their business. Breakfast is a touch on the small side which really was the only downside to our visit. Would definitely return.

Saw the menu on the board outside and again online for the Sunday Lunch, two courses £19.50. Looks good . Unfortunately once we were in and having a drink they brought us the menu only to tell us ( once asked)that that menu was no longer available. The items on the menu were the same though. When the food arrived the veg was excellent, however the beef was very thinly sliced and although it said rare on the menu it was not from what I had on my plate. Although there were plenty staff trying to be helpful it felt they were a bit disjointed and a lack of communication. For what is being charged I have had far better Sunday Lunches elsewhere. If it had been part of the special menu I might have thought there was less beef for a reason.

Stopped off on route from Oban to London. Room slightly on the small side, but had a walk in wardrobe and a fantastic shower. This hotel has lovely grounds and several public rooms which gave you plenty of choice. Before dinner you could sit in the sun room and enjoy the views and after dinner enjoy a drink in the very large and comfortable lounge. An excellent range of gin and whisky. Great value and delicious food.

Perfectly located right in the heart of the town. Elegantly set back from the road, with a real stately feel. Inside is warm & welcoming, and sumptuously decorated. Sunday lunch was superb, and great value at £24 for 3 courses. The sirloin was beautifully tender and tasty; all the trimmings were perfectly cooked, and everything was nice and hot. The serving team was brilliant - there when you need them, invisible when you don't, exactly as it should be. Wish we could've stayed all afternoon! Thank you all for making our visit perfect. We are now planning to stay over too.

Didn't stay but had lunch there with family. A really good menu with plenty of choice from light bites to main courses. A very good selection of choices. The service was good and all the food choices for our party was cooked to order. Everyone commented on how good the food was and how tasty as well as filling the choices were. The overall cost for five people including drinks was very reasonable. The restaurant was very airy and the seats were really comfortable. A terrific venue for a relaxing lunch with a pleasant friendly atmosphere, good service and quality food. Really recommend the Moffat House.

Eating out is completely different.

First class hotel, lovely room, lovely Breakfast and right in the centre of Moffat, all in all well worth a visit.

We dine and frequent the bar on a regular basis. Super staff and lovely hosts. Prices are very reasonable and offer value for money.

Superb,delicious food served by sttentive and fun stsff in lovely relaxed garden room. The staff oftem make a place extra special and in this case Steve,Oliver, Caroline and the very tslented chefs make Moffat House Hotel very specisl.

This was a casual visit to take an evening meal. We did not stay at the hotel. The service was via very pleasant staff, although some seemed a little unsure of themselves. The food was outstanding, truly 5* dining. We didnt partake of wine but the wine list looked adequate. All the food was well cooked, appropriately seasoned and plentiful. Service a little slow but thats an observation not a complaint; gave one extra time to properly appreciate the different courses. Highly recommended. We will return.

We were a large party of 21 men on a night out in Moffat after a cycle ride. Moffat house were very accommodating in arranging an early sitting with a limited menu from their bar menu as we were such a large group. The service was excellent and everyone raved about the food which was both hearty and delicious.

Beautifully decorated hotel at the top end of the square in Moffat. Good menu selection and friendly service. Would add that from the outside it looked to my partner and I that it was closed down. Perhaps some hanging baskets or large flower pots would help to brighten it up and let people know that it is still in operation. We shall call again when next in the area. 😁😁

Visited Moffat House Hotel on 6th June, had a lovely lunch with my brother and sister in law, staff attentive and made us welcome, decor of hotel was really wonderful. Well done, I will be back when I next visit my hometown. Annette Anderson.

All the staff are wonderful, it's a very lovely place!

Stopped off in Moffat for an overnight stay on our way home to Notts from Skye. Our B&B host recommended Moffat House for evening meal. Wow it was perfect, their bar menu was small but had meal choices to suit every palate (less food waste). Great staff, great atmosphere, well worth a visit and not too expensive either.x

Fabulous place, for any occasion.

This is the best restaurant we had during our stay in Scotland. The British club atmosphere at the bar is to be experienced. The restaurant room with a view of the garden managed to keep our little one calm. And the kitchen? The lamb was very well cooked. At the level of our French gastronomy. This is the only restaurant during our stay where the meats were cooked correctly. The team of servers took great care. And we were able to exchange a few words with the very friendly boss. It’s an address that we write down in our notebook for a future trip.

Visited for a funeral, can't find any faults at all. Staff friendly and professional at all times. The lady taking coats was so lovely on arrival too.

Blown away - they had a vegan pavlova on the standard menu which was indistinguishable from the original, and had run out of soya milk for my coffee so went out to the shops and got more.

Just had a wonderful lunch, Roast beef bagel,fish and chips and a sticky toffee pudding. All top quality and wonderful triple cooked chips The food, the decor,the staff I could not fault a thing £35 for lunch and a couple of drinks great value for money

Family lunch out in the lounge bar at this smart hotel in the centre of Moffat. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, food was superb and the service was great. Highly recomend the roast beef bagel - extremely tasty & perfect blend of flavours. Good value - whether it's for a special meal or just lunch out We will going back soon.
