We had the cauliflower fritters and black pudding bon bons followed by the Sunday lunch. We will definitely be visiting again soon to try the rest of the menu.

We stayed at this beautiful Hotel on Saturday 21st September 2024 for one night for our Anniversary get away and wow where do I start? It was absolutely stunning 🤩 with lots of lovely little touches, with some quirky decor it was also classy 😍 our room was outstanding it was totally stunning 🤩 the food was absolutely delicious with no need to use salt and pepper as the flavours were absolutely amazing, the food was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection so compliments to the Chef 🧑🍳 There was actually two goats cheese parcels but I ate one before I took the photo because the aroma was too tempting to wait 😋 we had Eggs Benedict for breakfast but I forgot to take a photo before we ate them 🤦🏻♀️ but I guarantee that it was as delicious and beautifully presented as all the other food we had 😋 we had the best nights sleep on the most comfortable mattress so we will definitely return in the future. We would even have a ride out just to have a meal because it is definitely worth travelling for. All the staff were lovely, friendly, pleasant, very attentive, they couldn’t do enough for the guests and they were all smiling constantly, which makes a pleasant change these days. So we would like to say a big thank you to Rachael Andrews (The General Manager) and all her lovely staff for a wonderful stay and experience of excellent hospitality 🥰 oh one more thing the local views are beautiful too 🤩 The only thing we would change is we would stay for longer. It is a place where you feel very relaxed and can be comfortable being yourself. We would 1000% recommend a visit and will definitely be going again.

Had Sunday lunch with family. We all chose the trio of meats Sunday Roast. It was really nice and very generous portions especially the meats. Seems a bit pricy at £23 but well worth it. The only tiny criticism was that it could have been a bit hotter. By the time we’d finished it was quite cold.

All businesses have a bad day and we ended up on that day. We were told the hour wait for food was down to staff whilst the table next to us was told it was a problem with ovens. They seated us in a heavily trafficked area but moved us when we asked. The Californian Pinot arrived as a Pinot Grigio, was then swapped for a Chilean Pinot and then we were told they had no Californian and we settled for a Merlot which turned back into the original wine on the bill. The young staff were fabulous if not frazzled and when the main meal came it was outstanding. The last issue was the Bakewell special from the board. We couldn’t have any, not because they had run out, they simply weren’t prepared to plate any specials. I’m sure every other night of the years runs smoothly, we’d unfortunately travelled for thirty five minutes to try it for the first time and didn’t receive our meal until after 9.30 which was an hour and a half after being seated.

We visited on 29th May 2024 for brunch. What a great experience! The food was first class, we ordered eggs Benedict and the full grills. Hot, delicious and well-presented. Delicious hot drinks. Plenty of toast as well. Great atmosphere, really cosy. Amazing service too, the staff were really friendly and polite and even gave our dog a sausage and water. The staff made the experience what it was, as well as the top notch food. I couldn’t recommend this place more, we will be back!

Good ambience and service, food I'm afraid very average, prawn cocktail bland, chicken caeser same, lille gem not cos lettuce, no parmesan shavings, no flavour to chicken it's not difficult to marinate chicken with a few herbs, black pepper etc. then griddle it. As said service very good, need to up the food standard to warrant the prices.

We recently enjoyed our first visit to this pub/hotel. Check in was great and very friendly. We stayed in the rooms in the Courtyard which is separate from the main building. Rooms are well equipped (with a large fan for those sticky evenings, tea and coffee etc) and nicely decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was good with very nice toiletries provided (White Co). There was a decent choice of well-kept beer available in the bar (it's a Thwaites pub). We ate dinner and breakfast in a really pleasant dining room, which is separate from the bar area. On both occasions the food was very tasty and the service was great. Overall, we had a great experience at The Millstone and 'm sure we would look to stay there again when visiting that part of Lancashire

Went for Sunday lunch. Sat at table 30 minutes no service . Not a single waitress/waiter came in so had to ask( the table behind had been waiting longer). We all decided to just have a main as didn’t want to wait for starters. Eventually ordered then waited another 45 minutes for food and gas to ask again. So 1 hour15 before we got anything to eat!!! Not good by any standards. Food was good when it came but again decided against dessert as couldn’t risk the wait. This place needs sorting out as it was past the main lunch time rush when we arrived!

The Millstone is a disgrace and a shadow of its former self which is sad to see. Food when it eventually arrived was cold and served on cold plates to boot. Cappuccino was like dish water and we were. left to wait for cutlery all the time food getting colder. The whole experience was dreadful and I would not recommend this pub to anyone especially Sunday lunch. . I would like to add we had been a few weeks previous in the restaurant and the experience was totally different to the bad service and food served in the bar area. Room was lovely and warm, very clean and cosy with beautiful wool blankets on the bed. Had a lovely coffee from the Lavazzo coffee maker and a very tasty, complimentary mince pie. Our evening meals were perfect. I had the steak and kidney pudding. It was full of meat and the suet pastry was delicious. Waiting on staff were all lovely. Had an excellent sleep no noise whatsoever. All I could hear was the church clock chiming. Disappointed with the trajectory of The Millstone over recent months. The service is decent enough and serving staff try their best but the food can be anything from very good on rare occasions to barely edible on most, if there’s any quality control on what comes out of the kitchen it isn’t evident. Basics like fish and chips are being served soggy and undercooked most days and if you’re lucky perfectly served the week after. Portions can be completely different from visit to visit. A Rib eye steak at £20 plus served burned & dry like the sole of a shoe along with one dry tomato and one mushroom. A Sunday Roast with no other veg than mange tout & potatoes, when asked about other veg told there wasn’t any, there’s half a dozen shops within ten minutes drive selling all kinds of exotic vegetables like carrots and cauliflower. Unfortunately for The Millstone there are many great restaurants in the area and it fairs poorly by comparison. We would eat here weekly before lockdown and was always impressed with the food and the hands on friendly service. Visits have become rarer since due to the above issues and afraid to say we’re unlikely to eat hear again unless we hear big changes are made. The restaurant seems far less busy than it used to and it’s hard to get a table at other restaurants in the area, that should have someone at Thwaites thinking, this is supposed to be one of their premium inns.

Staff, service and breakfast were wonderful but our room was tiny and dated. The hotel has a modern rustic charm to it but our room and bathroom didn’t appear to have been updated and looked like it was last renovated 20 years ago (and smelt like it too). Far from what I would expect at a 5 star hotel, we were both really disappointed and couldn’t wait to get back home. You won’t find photos of our room on the Millstone website, only photos of charming modern and spacious rooms, so pray you don’t find yourselves in room 26.

Staff very friendly, polite and service was great. We had starters both the soup and the bread/olives tasty and great to start. The chicken burger and tandoori chicken breast both delicious. So we punted for a dessert and the sticky toffee pudding was vert tasty but the milk toffee tart and burnt citrus was an interesting mix. The tart was sweet and sticky but the burnt citrus I'm definitely not a fan in the words of Cherish Finden “I don’t enjoy eating it at all,” even the waiter said when he took the plates away that the burnt citrus sorbet was terrible as it just makes everything taste "burnt." Other than that the meal, staff and surroundings are very good

We've visited the Millstone at Mellor many times over the last few years and up till this most recent visit have always experienced good food and excellent service. However on this occasion all aspects of the experience were very lacking. Upon arrival whilst there was hand sanitiser available, no request was made for us to check-in to the venue or manually take details of the guests visiting (this was still the day before restrictions lifted). Upon being seated and presented with the menus nobody offered to take a drinks order, we had to ask a passing waiter.Once the drinks had been brought to the table, our order was taken without issue. Three of us had the duck spring rolls, which admittedly were the highlight of the visit, they are still some of the best ive tasted. The final starter included pickled rhubarb which was barely edible as it was so hard, close to raw, obviously not picked for more than a day. It would have helped if the cutlery was sharp enough to cut through anyting other than butter. The mains were acceptable but nothing to shout about, my own "large" fish and chips seemed to be a small fish and chips with an oversixed batter , not much white fish at all. We were checked a few times by different passing staff as to how we were doing with our meal etc. One offputting point was every time a senior member of staff walked passed us he smelled heavily of cigarette some, not just lightly either which for those of us not accustomed to the smell was not nice.Only people in the party chose desserts, bothe very expensive for what arrived, over £2 for a single scoop of plain vanilla ice cream and close to £8 for a small slice of tart and a scoop of ice cream, icecream which could not be finished as it was incredibly over soured with either lemon or grapefruit.I'm not sure if there has been a recent change of management of this Thwaites establishment, i did not recognise anybody that i had previously seen in there on earlier visits,. Whatever the reason standards and food have slipped dramatically, and the whole experience left a sour note. We may try the venue again, but not for a long time, with so many other fine venues close by theres many more to choose from.I noticed just before writing this review that another customer (via a post on FB) had commented about the same issues, so this may not be an isolated experience.

When the bill came was a little surprised that my glass of wine was £10 but was happy to pay as I enjoyed it, however the sandwich was hugely disappointing at £7.90 ,it was not even worth £5, when paying the bill relayed my disappointment to the waitress who promised to pass on the comments was sadly dissapointed after ordering more wine and ending up with a bill of £70 and no senior member of staff came to talk to us. A local establishment which we have visited for many years. Disappointed with their customer services

Visited here after passing on way home from another local restaurant so decided to go the next day for lunch.Service was very good, all virus precautions in place as expected. We ordered a bottle of wine and the butchers board and cheeseboard to share between 2 of us. The butchers board was all very local/homemade produce and very tasty i would say it was worth the £16 no problem, unfortunately I cant say the same for the cheese board, 4 very thin slices of cheese 2 of which the same! 2 strands of celery, 1 small pot of chutney, 4 slices of apple ( no grapes available!) And 6 crackers, for me not worth £10 when the other was only £6 more just didn't add up to me I would have ordered 2 butchers if I would have known the difference in value for money, the young lad serving us was great, really nice setting in general, hopefully you take note of the criticism as if this was rectified with a little more value for money on that cheeseboard we will certainly visit again. All in all though good experience

Stayed overnight to celebrate my husbands birthday en route to Manchester airport for the following days flight.Fabulous! Plenty of parking, lovely scenic area and very warm genuine friendly welcome from all staff we came into contact with.Booked a character room which was in the courtyard next to the road. Quirky, comfortable and we were no affected by any road noise at all.Food is excellent. We both had a When Harry Met Sally moment when our entrees arrived. Wow! Best food we’ve eaten in a long time. Duck spring rolls which were not at all greasy and were filled with the most succulent duck. Tempura prawns - amazing, we could easily have fought over sharing these dishes they were so good. Mains I opted for roast guinea fowl, asparagus and smoky mash which was a plate of heaven! Never tried guinea fowl before and it was beautiful, moist and just enough for me - much better than chicken. My husband the monkfish served with belly pork, pak Choi and a Dahl. He didn’t like the Dahl but he tried it - the rest was superb! I sampled the monkfish and this was succulent and moist whereas previously other establishments have overcooked and it has been dry and a bit heavy going.Shared some I’ve cream and sorbet which was a pleasant palette cleanser before retiring to bed satisfied making plans of when we could return.Breakfast - enormous portions!! Too much to be honest. Opted for granola which wasn’t our taste, seemed to have chocolate chips in and was a little repetitive. My husband enjoyed his full English which wasn’t greasy and I opted for eggs florentine.Oh my goodness, 2 large muffins with eggs and hollandaise - 1 would have been more than sufficient and I struggled to eat the second. Perfect poached eggs, fresh coffee - lovely.Thank you for excellent food, pleasant staff and enjoyable night stay.

We went on a Sunday, so we could also chose chicken or beef roast dinner. Extremely tasty, perfect service and we all felt safe dinning here. At last - somewhere that not only provides good food, but also backs it up with excellent service, comfortable furniture, roaring fires and apparently genuine care for our happiness. We didn't test the extent of the kitchen's skills as we all wanted classic dishes, but these were all very tasty, well presented and of ample size. We still seek the perfect roast potato (like the ones we have at home) and the bakewell tart was nowhere near as delicious as the sticky toffee pudding, but these are very minor issues in the great scheme of things. We were very happy with our meal and felt that the price was very fair. Well done to the Millstone team.

Now, we are not shy to pay that bit extra for local, fresh produce (take a look at my profile reviews on TripAdvisor, some of them are the best eateries around the north west & afar) the portion size to price is ridiculous. For instance £18.50 for 1 piece of lamb rump with two polenta chips & £6.50 for two TINY slithers of arctic roll... really? Unfortunately if we want to eat in Mellor we’ll stick to The Spead Eagle.

I have been visiting the Millstone for decades, almost as long as the first class chef has been in the kitchen ! The food is top draw and the imaginative menus and specials are regularly updated.

Really nicely done out but food was a bit disappointing. I went for aspen fries and tempura fish starter and asked for them both to be brought as main. I believe it was prawns, squid and scallops and I only seemed to have two types of fish, they lacked flavour and the “aspen fries” were just fries? When I queried it they went back into the kitchen and chucked aload of cheese on top? I’ve had aspen fries enough to know they weren’t even close. Wouldn’t visit again.

As the title says the service was extremely slow. The food was ok but nothing special. We enjoyed it but felt no desire to rush back. My daughter had the roast beef which looked lovely.

It was a very wet Monday night so we didn't bother booking. At 7pm there were quite a few diners and drinkers in. The pub is very warm and welcoming, although we weren't actually greeted by anyone. It took a while for menus to be brought to us. We had to call a waitress over to take our order. Some time later we were shown to our table and waited another 20 mins for our food.

My family and I stayed the night at The Millstone. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. We had an excellent dinner the night before in a separate adjoining dining room. The staff were friendly and very accommodating, which is good as many had come a very long way. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

We were attending a lunch party elsewhere and wanted to stay nearby to avoid driving 70 miles home. We had never stayed at the Millstone before, but were very pleasantly surprised to find that we were in their annexe, well away from the Saturday night revelry. The room was very comfortable with a wet room, though it was a bit of a trek to the reception if you needed anything, as there was no phone in the room. That was the only criticism however. The breakfast the following morning was exceptional and the staff were both efficient and helpful. We will be back!

We visited the Milstone at Mellor tonight 8-9-2019, we visit this Restaurant once a month and spend on average £200, one of our friends had wine spilled over his lap with no apology or explanation, we had an excellent meal and retired to the bar, we found a table were we noticed a pint of beer on the table with a pair of glasses so we took the other chairs and faced the other way, we were sitting there relaxed and talking when the person came back after 15 minutes, he then went into a rant at our friends saying they invading his space and using very offensive language, the Management then came across and supported him as he was a millionaire and a regular.. we felt so insulted and offended we will never eat there again and at the premises in Blackburn we can make a difference

Popped in for lunch with my mum. Sat in the bar and had sandwiches. Good size portions. I had a fishfinger butty, which was delicious. Good chips too. My mum had the ham sandwich. Ham was lovely but she was disappointed with the piccalilli, which was runny and lacked a kick. Service was really friendly though a little slow as there was apparently going to be a function in the main restaurant. I would really like to see a fixed price lunch menu here.

I visited The Millstone for the first time for a light lunch with my mother midweek, after receiving numerous recommendations from friends. We chose a cosy table in a corner of the restaurant, which was immaculately presented, and staff were friendly and helpful. We shared the Vegetable Platter, which was a slightly odd assortment of vegetarian nibbles including what seemed to be a tomato puree dip, tempura courgette (which was quite tasty) and a vegan sausage roll, which was initially missed off the platter, although quickly replaced when I asked a staff member. Unfortunately, the dish had the air of something not put together by someone who would eat it, as the different items didn’t really complement each other. Whilst I can’t fault the service or the surroundings (the toilets were also immaculate!) I’m not sure that I would choose to return to eat as a vegetarian.

Brilliant food , starters were really good soup , scampi tails and chicken wings , mains 2 had the roast dinners which they said were very good , 1 had Asian salad which was also very good and tasty and an ample portion for each dish. We shared desserts again good with the strawberry sundae being our favourite of the 2.. great choice of menu options ( if not too much as we were struggling to choose so will have to go back !!)

The Millstone was our go-to meeting spot when we were this lovely part of the country. for the life of me, I cant remember why or how we found it but glad we did. It's been almost 30 years since we've been back but the perfect place for our reunion. a quaint place with a cozy bar and rooms. The staff is friendly and food, drinks and rooms are all very reasonably priced.

We were staying at Samlesbury Hall and this was on their list of recommendations. We turned up early on a Saturday evening without a booking and were lucky enough to be offered a table. The decor and ambience was great, food excellent and the menu imaginative. The staff are warm and friendly, service was quick, but we were not rushed despite the restaurant beginning to fill up for the busy Saturday evening. Special mention to our waitress, unfortunately we didn’t get her name, but she told us she was from Ethiopia, she was absolutely lovely.

We arrived for our booking and we were shown to our table, just outside the main dining room. We asked to have one of the two empty tables in the main area and were told that one was booked, the other ignored. The lady had a chat with a member of staff and then showed us to the original table. My friends ordered duck spring rolls, as they usually do but they were not as good as in the past. When we mentioned it to the same lady, she said it was a new chef but she was vegetarian so she wouldn’t know the difference. She was not interested at all. The steaks were served, one medium to well one medium, she asked who wanted them and still served them the wrong way. The table in the main restaurant remained empty all night, as did the second table. When we asked a waitress why we couldn’t have had the other table she said they was no reason and unfortunately, this lady is often not interested.

I visited the Pavillion cafe on Sunday for some lunch. I have a severe nut allergy (anaphylaxis) and therfore made the server aware when ordering our food. I asked for the fish and chips and she seemed very unsure so went to check with the kitchen which was good. After making me aware that nuts were used in the kitchen however were not used in any of the fryers I decided to go ahead with the order. However, before our food arrived she came back over to ask if I had my epipen on me which obviously made me feel very uncomfortable and unsafe eating there. Therefore, when the food arrived I didn’t feel safe to eat it and had to give it to my partner. As an allergy sufferer I was very disappointed in the handling of the situation as every restaurant/cafe I have visited in recent years have been very educated on allergies and have been very reassuring and taken it seriously: checking if anyone has any allergies on ordering, providing ingredient lists and making staff aware which meals need to be prepared with more care etc. I am only writing this review in the hope that staff here become better trained on how to handle customers with allergies as I feel they were not at the standard they should be. I do not want to but a negative view on the cafe as the food looked lovely and my partner did enjoy the food.
