Miller and Carter in Epping Forest

Always have a very pleasant experience when visiting our local miller and Carter. Last night we were served by Corinne who was so lovely and friendly, checked up on us and gave us amazing service. Staff here are run off their feet at busy times but Corinne doesn’t let any table be forgotten! Never had any issues with the food, always served hot and steak always cooked exactly how we ask. Tables (and the floor) are always clean

Great night last night at Miller and Carter CHIGWELL. Fantastic service from Sally. Amazing steak. Had a fillet and it was cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend

We visited on a Saturday at 6.30 for 2 people. We asked to sit outside and we were handed our menus and told to find a seat. After being outside unserved for 45 minutes, we went inside and ordered food. After a while of waiting, our 2 fillet steaks came out to the table and the medium steak was very overdone and very hard for the ‘softest steak on the menu’. Explaining this to the waiter he said he would send it back and it ‘wouldn’t be long’. Half an hour later, and one main course finished, I had to go and chase for the second steak to arrive. When it did it came without the chips we ordered. The chips then came luke warm. Offered no apologies or refund for the poor food and service we had received. Will definitely not return. Would go elsewhere when spending £100 on a less than mediocre meal.

We have visited many Miller and Carter establishments and have always enjoyed the food and experience. However. on this occasion, the experience was very poor. Let’s start with the food. Firstly we order a large glass of Chardonnay which was well passed its best and quite frankly undrinkable. The waitress took it back and informed us there were no more bottles left. The drink was replaced (but we were charged for this one) with a southern comfort and lemonade. Again, undrinkable as no diet lemonade, so very sweet. From this point, we couldn’t be bothered to further complain. The steaks were mediocre and at these prices, I don’t expect Harvester such like quality ! The real disappointment lay with the desserts. We don’t mind paying above average but what can I say? My crème brûlée was a shallow amount of unflavoured runny custard with no brittle/glaze top. My husband’s orange bomb exploded to reveal a watered down gunge of mousse! The cheese cake was grainy and had no flavour. The worst dessert of the night was the banoffee pie. This was put together in a very slapdash fashion. A thin layer of biscuit with a thick layer of sponge, finished off with not even delicate pieces of banana. Thick long slices were placed on top, with a huge amount of spray cream to hide the inferior quality of the dessert. Really not made with much care or love!! Moving onto the establishment itself. To say the place looked tired would be an understatement. The cleanliness of the place let it down to the point where I took a wet wipe and run it across the blinds and ledge and I was not impressed with the result. I could go on, but I think the message is clear. On the plus side, the staff were attentive and did their best.

Oh dear this place was excellent now food is very poor standard. Difficult to get staff to take orders kept walking past our table was not asked how the meal was,?we're we ok?was there anything we needed?had to keep asking for service,not good at all. Alot more expensive than food is worth.

visited on birthday for lunch ordered two courses starters were lovely but the steak was uneatable and hard and had to send back when meal was bought back the steak was just the same so very dissapointed

Lovely meal and delightful attentive service from Remi. We all had different dishes including Ribs, steak and fish, and all dishes were well cooked and tasty.

An awful experience. We had to wait for our booked table but that wasn't a problem. Once we ordered which took fifteen minutes, the starters took about fifty minutes to arrive, they were okay. It took another forty five minutes go get our main meal. That was shocking, three of our steaks were wrongly cooked, my chicken burger was barely warm, I sent it back and what returned wasn't very nice at all. We didn't bother with desserts as it took so long. We were a party of twelve, seven adults and five controlable aged teenagers and children. They simply couldn't cater for that number so shouldn't have done. This cost over four hundred and twenty pounds and that was an utter waste. They need to put so many wrongs to right here I feel

Hi there, On 31st of January at 20:00 myself and my husband have had a booking for a set meal at Chigwell’s branched restaurant and were completely let down by several issues occurring non-stop at your restaurant. After being sat down our order was taken and later a wrong order was sent to us and placed on our table with us having to wait for the steaks to be swapped, good that we did not started eating it. Then the wrong salad has been given to us as we requested a salad with no bacon and bacon on top of the salad was brought to us - once again we had to wait for it to be changed ruining of a smooth new years eve dinner. Later a waitress dropped some liquid near our shoes due to them rushing and making mistakes, good that it did not get onto our clothes only on the carpet, later my husband decided to use the bathroom and there was no toilet roll inside the bathroom, good that he had tissues from our own home. This actually ruined his mood as how can there be no toilet roll in the bathroom on new year’s eve? Later once we wanted to order the desserts from your set menu, whole day we were waiting for eton mess only to be told that the branch has ran out of the eton mess dessert? Why we were not told this upon arrival? And we have made a booking for a set menu only to find out you actually have ran out of the dessert that we wanted to eat? Being advertised that on the set menu as a choice. Also when the bill was brought to us and extra charge was added to chunky chips 2x but we only had 1x chunky chips, but we did not bother to discuss this as the whole evening was already ruined due to number of events happening especially when we arrive from far to have a set menu that we want and to be told they ran out of it? Especially when the other desserts were not enjoyable and we had to choose something random that we did not even enjoy. Totally unacceptable after paying such a price and not receiving the menu choice that was advertised on such an important night.

I’m not one to usually write a review but after spending £450 on a Christmas Day dinner and what was served to me and my family on Christmas Day I feel I have to. This was the first year ever me and the family decided to try eating out for Christmas Day and so we wanted it to be special and nice quality of food. Having been to miller and Carter the Chelmsford chain before I thought it was the perfect choice to go and managed to get a spot on Christmas Day with the Chigwell branch. The starters of the cheese soufflé arrived and tasted nice however the mains was terrible , the potatoes had been microwaved more than once they was rubbery and chewy , the vegetables was raw , the was one stuffing ball and I only ate half of it because it all was burnt , how they managed to burn one half of a parsnip and it be raw on the other half I don’t know. All of the vegetables was uncooked. We asked prior for no vegetables on one plate and it came with vegetables on so we asked for it to be changed and they brought it back with cabbage on still. The turkey was cold and so was everything else. We sent full plates of dinner back and by this point we just wanted to go home but had deserts coming because it had already been paid for weeks prior, the deserts seemed ok but I found a small hair on my brownie and that was it for me I just left it and we got the bill. I’m not sure if he was the manager or not but the guy Paul came over and apologised and gave us a bottle of Prosecco and let us off the drinks, however Christmas Day dinner was ruined and it don’t compensate the £450 paid for a horrible dinner and ruined Christmas Day meal. Will never be going out to eat again for Christmas Day.

Very nice restaurant with great staff, nothing too much trouble. A bit pricy for lunch, and, although we ordered from the festive menu got charged for the a la carte. Didn't raise it with staff member so our fault. Food good, will return.

I initially went for a meal with my family, the food wasn't much to brag about but the price was good. I had to delete a Facebook post I had made saying the food could have been better. Few days later a member of the kitchen staff started messaging me with their friends, laughing about cancer, calling me fat along with dropping the C*** word constantly. I've since made taken my profile off public, but I will be sure to spread the screenshots I have collected of this persons horrible attitude to anyone I possibly can.

We are regular uses at M&C, lovely meal as usual, but very disappointed that you no longer serve sweet potato Fries.

Best M&C around by far. The Christmas decorations are beautiful, the staff are friendly, attentive and the food is gorgeous! Love the banoffee pie too!

In spite of living 5 minutes away i dont often go here. Mainly because i used to frequent the epping one as it was nearer to my daughter. Since she moved i thought i would give this a try with a group of friends after my daughter said the food was much better here. Have to say on walking in it was stunning. Really done up for xmas! Sat down attended by a lovel waitress called kelly. We had various dishes of steak,salmon, chicken. All served up hot! And very tasty. The desserts were lovely. Mini pud bannofee was big! Could not fault anything. Manager is lovely very chatty this is def my go to m and c. Knocks spots off epping which sadly has gone down hill. Better still its 5 minutes away for me. Special thanks to kelly she is a credit to this branch. See you again soon.

Went for an anniversary lunch. We had lunch off the fixed price lunch menu. Starters was lovely, I had the sticky chicken bites, and my husband had calamara. The main course I had rump steak, which was good just how I liked it, and the peppercorn sauce just topped it off. My husband had the haddock and chips. We both had the apple and damson crumble, which was delightful. The restaurant staff were very attentive and pleasant. The atmosphere was very good, there was an open fire which smelt delightful. The whole experience was lovely. I will definitely recommend and return for lunch.

We booked for a family of 4 adults and was shown a table for 2. After that we were made to feel like we were an inconvenience. Food was less than average and after talking to Paul , one of the managers he wasn't very helpful in making things right. Didn't even address our complaint. Giving this a miss going forward. The miller and Carter, the dick turpin is much nicer. Sorry for the negative info but they had a chance to make this right.

The only thing I don't like about Miller and Carter is that they don't keep the original name of the place they take over. Everything is the same, same decor and quite boring. Compare this with Wetherspoon where you see the old name, lots of pictures reminding customers about the history of the place. I visited the former Camelot near Hainault Forest. All the signs in the forest point to 'Camelot' the former name, but on the actual building there is only Miller and Carter which disregards the history of the place and is pretty boring.

Nice environment. Nice staff. Nice atmosphere. Nice menu and food. Good value. Value for money. Visit ASAP.

What an unexpected lovely meal! We wanted to escape from the busy London on a lovely summer evening and drove to there. The steaks were so delicious! Very friendly waiters and lovey cocktails. Enjoyed everything! There were tables outside overlooking the green hills around London but you had to eat inside. As Belgians a bit strange because on a lovely summer evening you just want to enjoy the weather. But just a minor detail. Everything was perfect!

Lovely quiet spot for a weekday lunch, no need to book. Lots of space in the restaurant, and the large car park. Very good lunch menu offering two courses for £14.25. A baked chorizo starter and a calamari starter were both good. Very good haddock and chips with an excellent batter. Excellent chargrilled chicken breast with a mushroom sauce. Some good Pino Grigio - a warm bottle was replaced without question. Wonderfully relaxed and pleasant service. About £75 for two including two decent bottles of wine. Worth recommending.

Don't go here if you have any allergies or intolerances. They were unfriendly inconsiderate and unaccomadating. Their menu online says food is gluten or dairy free but when you get to the restaurant the food is actually not or is cooked in butter or Cross contaminated. When I complained they then still charged my £25 for my meal which ended up being a plain steak with no sides at all. Not accommodating for an illness i did not choose to have. Will not be back

Visited with a large family with children on Sunday and the service was extremely slow. We waited over an hour to order our food and then nearly another hour to be served, which by then the children were getting restless. I’ve been to a miller and carter 3 times and every time I’ve come away feeling disappointed. The food is just ok, nothing to rave about and is over priced. And all the children were not impressed with their food, portions are very small and only suitable for very young children.

Had a wonderful meal with great food and service from sally at chigwell along with friends. We would love to go back and have sally serve us as she brought us a fun friendly experience. Just what we needed after a long week at work xxx
