Mill Farm Deli in Lisburn

Our family visited for lunch, we were unsure what we wanted and the waitress was kind enough to provide some recommendations based on what I said I liked. The food was served quite quickly, it was fresh and clearly homemade. My husband ordered a scone with Jam and cream, after seeing it, I had to take one home. I ended up not eating it until the next day and it was still unbelievably fresh. The meal was lovely, I would highly recommend visiting. I have now been a few times and I've never had any complaints. The food is to the highest quality and the staff are very friendly, what more could you want!

I was in two minds whether to submit a review however having read some of the third rate responses by the owner to previous negative reviews submitted by others , not I) I felt compelled to do so. Two weeks ago my wife and I visited for lunch. My wife is vegan, we ordered a vegan main accordingly (no problems so far) along with the main we also ordered a portion of fries after enquiring whether they were vegan ... cooked in vegetable oil and not used for non vegan dishes. The reply was no problem, all is good, Two days ago we revisited and fries were once agin ordered however on this occasion the employee taking the order took the time to explain that yes, vegetable oil is used but it is also used to fry non vegan dishes ... same chef on both occasions. When pressed as to whether the vegan requirement was overlooked or maybe misunderstood on the previous occasion the reply was that potatoes are vegan (get away who would have figured) and that vegetable oil was used. Enjoyed visiting this place but will not be doing so again. Is it too much to expect that professionals understand what a vegan lifestyle requires, obviously so. Never knew this place existed until today! What a hidden gem 😍 Beautiful surroundings and plenty of parking available with self catering accommodation too. The tables inside their lovely deli are well spaced out with additional outdoor seating in the courtyard (dog friendly too)🐾🐶 I opted for the Sriracha Eggs which consisted of 2 slices of toasted sourdough, marinara sauce, chilli oil, fried eggs and sriracha hot sauce 🔥 I did add on some bacon and a sausage as an optional extra at £1 each. Beautiful food. Lovely staff. Will most definitely be returning.

Incredible spot - worth taking a day out to come here if you’re not that local. The food is incredible - so much attention to detail and the staff are so welcoming!

First visit and it didn’t disappoint , came recommended from friends and business colleagues, perfect after a walk in the forest . Lovely decorated and curry was delicious, excellent sized portion and not too long to wait . Used the bathrooms with my baby and found them very clean and was happy to use them , usually I prefer to change her in the car as most baby facilities aren’t the cleanest when out but couldn’t fault these at all . Ample space inside and not crowded in compared to some of the other venues in Hillsborough !

Great venue, neat as a pin, good staff, but I won't be back. Firstly, as with any cavernous all wooden/glass space we found the deli very noisy, so anyone sensitive to sound or using hearing aids would be uncomfortable. Unfortunately the background piano music soundtrack merely added to the cacophony. Secondly, I thought the menu was expensive for what it was. and expensive in comparison to other cafes in the village. We had one scone with butter and jam, 2 teas and one piece of cake which came to £15.10. Lastly, the food itself. The scone was dry and overmixed, lacking in flavour. The jam portion was tiny. Luckily the tea was good (teabag, hot water.. what could go wrong?) but you needed it with every mouthful of that dry scone. The cake was good, (again small portion) but at that price? Not good value for money. Sorry to say but with so much competition nearby I won't be returning any time soon. Pity, as parking is good and the grounds are lovely.

Enjoyed another visit to Mill Farm for lunch. Great menu and delicious food. Eating al fresco is particularly lovely - such pretty surroundings in the garden. A very special place.

We had soup and a burger and I have been before. Friendly staff, tasty food, clean and fresh atmosphere. Plenty of parking. Good facilities. Quick service. Nicely presented on the plate. Good for a bun as well. Bit of a hidden gem in that area.

We only had drinks, but we were served in a great, warm and professional way by Tasio. Thankyou! We needed a peaceful place for a chill and chat, and sitting outside was very pleasant.

As a long-time customer of Mill Farm, I had an issue on a recent visit and wrote to the Manager to outline my concerns- but was not even afforded the courtesy of a response. Very poor altogether- so won't be returning.

My wife and I have been here three times and to be honest we enjoyed the food that we have had,my thoughts and reasoning for this review is that I feel it is very mean and petty to be charged 60p more because I have asked for extra satay sauce as I know from experience that the chips can be quite dry. I am aware that we are living in difficult times but I have to speak as I find.

Spent time at Wilson's reclamations yard, having driven up from Kildare on an unusually hot day. Very hungry and Found Mill Farm Yard , 5 minutes drive away thanks to Google. Delightful and delicious lunch with charming staff Highly recommended

Went for lunch today with a friend. We ordered a prawn salad and a side order to share. It was a perfect size and we had room for desert. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely return.

My wife is disabled and we were offered table 14 which is very low or a high bench there were other bigger tables empty but the man who showed us to our table give us no choice Please be understanding of people with mobility issues they don’t want to make a issue but low seats and high benches are not suitable

Been here a few times and always enjoyed it. Food and atmosphere was very good. New menu however has left me cold and I'm struggling to choose something that I really like and want. If its not broken, why try to fix it?

If you're thinking of going here for coffee/lunch/scones (or all three) just go! A beautiful lunch in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of parking, plenty of space between tables. Staff are friendly and efficient. Food was fresh, hot and plentiful. Reasonably priced especially for Hillsborough. What more do you want? I will definitely be back.

Its refreshing to see a cafe taking precautions to spread out diners and offer some outdoor seating (looking forward to the new outdoor seating area with the flashy roof opening!). Decent portions of tasty food served with a smile too, sure what more could ye want!?

Super deli section with a great choice of pies, lasagnes, casseroles and home made jams. All very clean and well presented!

Had some their home made waffles (you never see homemade waffles this side of the pond!) with bacon and egg. Delicious! Friendly service too, would recommend. Lovely outdoor seating in the courtyard. Loved it!

Asked for a poached egg instead of fried they said they couldn’t accommodate I asked for scrambled egg but no they could not accommodate- asked for my bap to be toasted- again NO just toasted wheaten I have been a regular customer since this place opened bringing friends and promoting Mill farm - so now i simply won’t be back- staff were not very friendly

Disappointing for a place well reviewed in the past. Menu’s good and the building and surroundings excellent. Alas the ingredients are very very cheap, hardly quality and some of the food dried out and clearly pre prepared and left to patch under a heat lamp. Staff aren’t familiar with please or thank you but to be fair it’s a warm day. Although the gentleman server clearly doesn’t want to be here or communicate - food is laid down and he walks away. All in all I would come back but work to do..

The food was of excellent quality and the service was 1st class. Selection of dishes was adequate and fresh produce was an added incentive. However, the desserts were disappointing. Well done, we will be back soon.

Visited here for Friday night dinner with friends. Hadn't been for a while and was delighted with the meal we were served. Really tasty and a nice selection on the menu to choose from. My husband and I shared the Nacho platter as a starter, our friends had Salted Chilli Squid and a Goat's Cheese fritter. The four of us settled on the Chef's recommendation for Mains which was fresh tender handmade Chicken Goujons served on a bed of Noodles and Vegetables with a Satay broth. No room for dessert this time! Really really good. The BYO is a bonus . Will definitely return soon. The place was buzzing and had a nice ambiance.

Was so disappointed that Mill Farm have decided to withdraw their vegetarian Friday night menu. Not sure what they are thinking. The 2 veg options they have on the menu are obscure to say the least. We won't be back until there is better veg options.

We visited family and they have told us about the Deli but we never had time to go try it, but this time we managed to fit it in. Well worth the wait. I highly recommend the Wheaten bread, scrambled egg and smoked salmon. Huge portions and very good quality. The teapot did me 3 big cups which in this day and age is very generous. The staff were very efficient as we were in a very large party and all go served at the same time with hot food. Ideal for families, elderly and disabled as really good access and parking for all.

We looked for somewhere to eat in the Hillsborough area and spotted Mill Farm Deli. What a find! Friendly staff and prompt service. We all ordered different meals and cleared our plates. Definitely have this place in mind for another visit by ourselves or with friends.

Went to this restaurant a few days ago and the vegetarian/vegan menu has been withdrawn! This restaurant was one of the few places I loved. There were two options put on to the main menu for vegetarians, such a let down. Worse was the service when I tried to tell the waiter that I could nor eat either of the options, one was a blue cheese salad which I did not want in the middle of winter and I do not like blue cheese, the other was a chilli which I am intolerant to due to medication I take. When I explained this to the waiter he just grunted and asked if we wanted to see a manager. He offered no alternative nor did he offer any help. I am a wheelchair user and he seemed to have issue with me wanting to sit at the back of the table - I do this to stop folks tripping over the little wheels that protrude from the back of my chair. I asked to speak to the manager, and this is the only reason I gave 3 stars. She was great, upbeat, nothing was too much trouble. She organised some plain nachos with basic tomato sauce. Not ideal but better than nothing. I was told nobody complained about the menu, but people just don’t return if there is nothing on the menu they can eat! That is what I usually do, but the service I received from the first waiter is what has prompted this post. Dietary issues should be easy enough for any restaurant to cope with, particularly one with an in-house chef! Well done to the lady manager, she did say she would see about getting some veggie burgers back on the menu...a real specialty from the previous menu. I live on the same road as this restaurant.....it’s a real shame that they now offer nothing on their standard menu that I can eat. By the way I am not ranting about vegetarianism, I have been veggie for 36 years so I am used to just a few choices, it was more the attitude of the first waiter. The manageress was a gem and saved the day

Meals for two were provided by friendly staff.Excellent food and hot coffee afterwards was so impressive we intend to take friends there at a later date. The premises were very clean and tidy and plenty of parking space available.We were there during Lunchtime and other people arrived at intervals throughout. The other good thing was that the tables were not jammed up too close so some privacy was enjoyed. Well done Staff,very attentive.

This is a lovely and quiet place that is out of the way which makes it lovely and quiet and a pleasurable to place to be. There is allocated parking for customers and disabled parking is available. The coffee shop is unexpectedly big with plenty of available seating. It has a modern and contemporary design and the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. The staff are friendly and welcoming and greet you as you arrive. The menu offers a decent amount to choose from, however the breakfast menu is slightly limited. Staff were understanding and accommodated to our needs. I ordered the French toast with fruit and cream which was lovely, if a little creamy. On the whole, it’s a really lovely place with a great atmosphere and lovely staff. Would recommend taking a visit here.

Arrived and found the place after getting a bit lost. Got seated ok and looked forward to grabbing a small bite to eat. We plumped for a scone and coffee rather than anything heavy. Scones today mars or plain. Coffee came lovely and hot, scones arrived but were cold, cream was not fresh cream and jam was in a small reused pot and butter was a small square in a silver pot. I’m not normally one to gripe but when you go out it’s the small details that count. I did say to the gent that served us that it was disappointing that in such a lovely venue that things were scrimped on like the butter, cream and jam and he did say he would inform the chef and he did warm the scone on request. I do detest squirty bottle cream and this let the rest of the coffee date with mum down as the venue is so lovely and staff were so friendly. Think there’s room for improvement on those little details!

Called in with my elderly parents and my daughter. Beautiful setting. Deli is very clean and spacious. It was very busy for a Saturday afternoon and had to wait for about 10 mins but moved very quickly. Tables just a little close together in certain areas. Great Deli menus with a wide selection of mains and smaller dishes. The pie of the day was lovely and the burger was very tasty with good quality meat. Chips were class!!! My daughter had the Mexican wrap. Good flavours but perhaps a little soured cream would be a nice addition. All in all a lovely meal and would definitely go back again. It was very busy and the table service was initially a little rushed and rather brusque but perhaps understandable given the crowds.

Visiting an artist in the area and he recommended Mill Farm. We did drive passed twice as the sign is small (What3Words address is little.corkscrew.paddlers). Lovely food and a more unusual selection than I was expecting. Korean pulled pork in a beautiful brioche bun with sweet potato chips. The spicing was perfect; tingling lips but tasty rather than blistering hot. I would highly recommend and I will be going back.

We had a lovely evening. The meal was wonderful, the deco is great and all in all, highly recommendable. We could bring our own wine, with a small corkage fee as well

Off the beaten track and will need a car to get here but NOT in the back end of nowhere and easy to get to and find.

Stopped on the way home from the airport for a last minute spot of lunch. Had a truly tasty lunch and felt very welcomed and valued. Was recommended by a friend and glad we took his advice. Will be back for sure!!

Had breakfast here yesterday. The place was really busy even at 9.30. Food was delicious, the smoked salmon and scrambled egg was so tasty, served with home baked wheaten bread. Well worth trying. Staff are friendly and pleasant and go out of their way to make sure your needs are met. Very family friendly, spacious, accessible to the dual carriageway and with the added benefit of on site parking this is definitely a venue to visit again.

Approximately 2 miles on the Dromore side from the centre of Hillsborough village, is the beautiful Mill Farm Deli and country apartments.

First of all can I say the food and venue where superb no complaints there... customer service however.. our server accidentally spilt a tin of coke over me which I don't have a problem with as accidents happen. However while cleaning up the mess another server asked if my white canvas trainers where new. It was there first outing!! To which she replied aw well had to get dirty sometime!!! Then when it came to paying the bill there was no discount offered or even a free coffee.. not really good enough in the competitive market. Rant over..

I can’t commend The Mill Farm deli highly enough. We entrusted them in hosting my mum’s surprise 80th birthday afternoon tea and what a good choice we made.

Food was very nice, varied selection and good sized portions. The main reason that takes us here is the kids tractor play area. It’s so nice to have a coffee and know that children are happily entertained.

Visited on the basis of a friend's recommendation, and we weren't disappointed. There is a relaxed yet efficient service, just enough hub-bub to add some atmosphere, and the food was quickly served, hot, and delicious. I'm sure we'll be back!

Delicious lunch as always at Mill Farm. Highly recommend this spot - great food, clean and super parking. Perfect meet up for parents with tiny people. However, it'd be really helpful for this place to get a couple of Ikea high chairs. It would have made lunch today and last month a lot easier. The ones they have may look pretty and blend in with the great decor, but are not suitable for younger babies. The support with the strap in between the legs isn't good enough and my little one banged his head off the table a couple of times at lunch and the gorgeous (and expensive) voyage cushions kindly offered by the staff don't really do the job and are far too nice to be smeared with mucky hands. Do yourself a favour and purchase the Ikea high chair for customers with young babies. Hope when I'm back next month you have one for us!

Have been here several times for breakfast and lunch. The staff are always great and the food is fantastic. The building and setting within an restored mill yard is quite unique and gives the restaurant a really nice character and feel. Highly recommended.

The deli is in a great location and tasty food is served by friendly staff. Unfortunately it is let down by the noise - it sounds like a school canteen. The floors are tiled, walls are concrete and bare and there are no soft furnishings. This means noise echoes and amplifies around the room. Put some rugs on floor- even one on a wall, plants, picture canvases, table cloths , soft chairs and solve the problem!

My friend and I visited for coffee. Most of the staff including the manager are lovely but our service was just ok on this occasion. Our server appeared abrupt and was not pleased at a request for an additional paper napkin. Traybake was very hard and tough to cut. Coffee was good but could have been warmer.

We called into mill farm deli on our way to the boulevard in banbridge. I had veg broth and artisan bread which was delicious my husband had the coronation chicken open sandwich which was also delicious. We then had two coffees and snickers tray bakes. Would definitely return very good service as well.

A lovely cafe/restaurant off the beaten track. Big inside with a good choice on the menu. We’ve had lunch here as well which has been very good. Food is middle priced but worth the money.

First time I have visited. My daughter and I both thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Staff friendly. Certainly will call again but hopefully will find parking more simple (mainly due to others being inconsiderate by leaving large spaces between). Was very busy and noise level high, with children left to run around.

Stayed in The Granary for the weekend and was so impressed by the tasteful and creative way the former farm buildings have been restored. Very well-equipped, spotless and great attention to detail. Also wonderful to have the deli on hand for dinner Fri night, delicious food to order for reheating in cottage or for daytime treats! The owners and staff could not have been more helpful. We have already booked to return!

First impressions were that it was a large well appointed refectory, with a large fairly open space. There was a room at the rear which had several tables and was more private.

Have been on a few occasions and it never disappoints! Set in a quiet country location, very relaxing and somewhere you can have a catch up without being hassled! The scones are delicious,freshly made & very moreish. The coffee is lovely, served hot & in proper crockery, not 'trendy' jam jars, we have also enjoyed tasty breakfast on other occasions. The staff are efficient, knowledgeable & very helpful. Prices are reasonable for home cooking, decor is tasteful, I love the cow sculpture! Being in a wheelchair there is plenty of room to manoeuvre and access & parking is excellent. We go with friends who are local, have brought Scottish relatives and our Aussie relatives have seen photos, we'll be bringing them when they visit soon. Looking forward to our next visit soon.

Went for breakfast last week. Nice place although very echoey, they could maybe put a few more tables in. I had waffles which were just ok, I believe they are bought in, my dad had the French toast which looked lovely though he couldn’t finish it, as he said it was far too sweet.

Call in here weekly especially for a tasty soup lunch with two generous slices of delicious bread. There isnt a lot of choice on the menu, but one can generally find something they will enjoy. Also a small selection of scones & pastries are available. Some ready made meals,curries,etc can be purchased or home. Everything is very new, & modern. Spotlessly clean, with table service by lovely staff. Seating inside or if the weather permits, outdoors in a pleasant rural setting, makes it a very relaxing location.

Mill farm service a beautiful lunch in a lovely setting. The portions are very generous. There is some lovely outdoor seating for a nice summers day.

We would be regular visitors for breakfast, and this is the second time we have been for The Mill’s “Friday evening meals” - absolutely superb. The food and staff are truly brilliant, and frankly some of the more pretentious restaurants in Hillsborough could learn a thing or two from this place.

Finally got to visit and was def worth the waited. Group of friends nipped out for lunch from work. We had a mixture of coronation salads, lasagne & Cajun wraps and all of us loved the food. Food is quality produce, well presented and very tasty

Lovely location, spacious seating area, excellent parking. Not far from Hillsborough in the countryside. A hidden gem, waiting to be discovered. I've visited it a few times now - all winter visits. The wood burner in the corner is very welcoming. It wasn't that busy on any occasion, but the service was good, and the food was great. Freshly baked warm scones with well made coffee - delicious! Soup (artichoke that time, it varies) and traditional wheaten bread also very tasty. Keep up the good work!

My wife and I have visited Mill Farm on a number of occasions since it opened. We often take our 94 years old Mum with us, who is confined to a wheelchair, as well as with other family and friends.

What a fantastic little gem just off the A1 from Hillsborough to Banbridge (on the route to Dromara). 3 mins off the A1 and you feel in the middle of the countryside at converted stables. This would be perfect for the Belfast-Dublin commuters too!!!

Really enjoyed our meal here last night! The service was excellent & the food was spot-on. My husband has a steak & I had the chicken fillet and we were both very satisfied We really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere as well.. we were also very comfortable being there with our 10month old baby who makes his presence known .. looking forward to a return visit!

Had a very enjoyable lunch in pleasant surroundings. Meal was served without delay by attentive staff....I thoroughly enjoyed the 'pulled pork'. The overall atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, and is certainly well worth another visit.

Visited Mill Farm on a busy Saturday morning and it was very nice. We 3 ordered off breakfast menu - scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and 2 baps filled with sausage, egg and bacon . Very reasonably priced with very pleasant and efficient staff . Great play area for kids . The style of this Deli - not sure if that is the correct description ? Is a lovely olde world style barn - very clean and contemporary - plenty of other similar places would have crammed in lots more tables due to the space - personally I'm glad Mill Farm Deli haven't done this instead they do what they do very well . We have visited a few times now and food and service is always consistently good - well done guys keep up the good work.

I visited The Mill Farm Deli (Restaurant) for the first time this morning - following a recommendation by a friend.

I and some of my family enjoyed afternoon tea in this restaurant. It was very busy but the service was good as was the selection of sandwiches and cakes. The waitresses were very attentive and the children with us were well catered for.

We love this place. I don't get to come here as often as I like as I don't live close, but I am never disappointed when I do! Delicious homemade scones and try bakes are to die for

Four of us went for coffee. Absolutely no complaints about the coffee and scones which were excellent. Some soft furnishings would help to soften the echo sounds but it was well occupied which says a lot about the service and food.

four of us arrived at 11.30for coffee/tea/chat. My second visit. Given menus for full meals - no mention of scones or tray bakes. Service and food Ok but please do something about the noise level. There is nothing in the building to absorb the sound of normal chatter at the tables so eventually everyone had to speak really loud to be heard. It was so deafening and uncomfortable that I would not return until this matter is addressed.
