Had a lovely meal here on our return from holiday. Food was delicious and plentiful! Staff also very attentive. Will definitely be going again.

Our first trip out to Hitchin in months and we chose the Turkish restaurant in Sun St, Megan. Nicely spaced tables, very friendly and courteous staff and lovely food, and a good Turkish wine, finishing with a Turkish coffee and Turkish Delight - what’s not to like?

We had a great evening celebrating a birthday. Food was excellent (a lot of it!), cocktails & mocktails were fab and service was brilliant, really couldn't have asked for more, highly recommend.

I can see why this restaurant is always busy! We went for dinner and all 3 of us really enjoyed our meals, I had the Chef Special Mevan chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce with rice, loads of tender chicken and tasty, we had the house white, which was like a lovely Sauvignon blanc. Our waiter Serdar was friendly, helpful and efficient, our bill was £90 including 2 bottles of wine! Lovely surroundings and it was packed, so ensure you book in advance. Definitely recommend

We went as a team of 14 people for a work lunch and had a great experience. Everyone enjoyed their food, the service was excellent, Ali was very welcoming. Lovely place would recommend and will definitely return

Amazing tasting food ( we had the chefs special chicken and the manchego chicken) . Good service from all staff and even noticed we had a birthday and arranged (without us asking etc) for a birthday song and cake / candle ! Thank you!

Ordered delivery takeaway of the platters for the football and they were incredibly good value, delivered on time, well cooked (not cremated and dry like so many) , and I can't praise them enough. I am wondering why we bother barbecuing when friends are over. Completely pain free and quick

My family and i were surprised thaf it wasnt busier when we went, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the drink was fantastic and the meals tasted excellent, a big thumbs up and i urge eveeyone to try this place.

My wife and I had a rare weekend out alone, and we decided on a Turkish meal.We reserved a place before our night out and were seated by the window on arrival. Our drinks orders were taken quickly, with bread and both chilli and garlic sauces put on the table.Our food arrived soon after being ordered, which we could see being cooked in the kitchen near us. We were asked how the food was for both starters and mains, both of which were of excellent quality.The staff who came to our table were very polite and friendly, we weren't rushed at all and they weren't over bearing in any way. In fact, we were even given a free dessert! This topped off the night for us.We will definitely be visiting Mevan again!

Popped in Sunday aftermoon for lunch and what an amazing experience it was. Cold and hot meze was spot on and mixed platter was cooked to perfection along wiv great waiter service cant wait to go again thank you

Taken for birthday meal last weekend as I love Turkish food and not being able to visit this year family decided nearest would be a nice meal. Well I was disappointed as family said good things about this restaurant..Food was over cooked and lacked taste.Flat breads where not soft as expected..The service was good not a problem,This is not a restaurant I will be visiting again as their is another near by so I think they need to up their game

If you are buying your child a kid's meal, please make sure you try it first!Today, 13/03/2021. Got a takeout - two falafel wraps (on its own) and chicken nuggets kids meal for £31.30 at 3.04 PM. All for supporting local businesses during these times.My two year old had a nugget but kept spitting it. Thought it was the usual terrible two tantrum, but no. I took a bite and had to spit it out because it wasn't fully cooked.Took it back to the restaurant, said the nuggets weren't cooked. The young man on shift was shockingly rude. He split the nuggets in half, claimed it was cooked said no refund for kid's meal because "half the food" (one nugget) was eaten". Their behaviour caught me off-guard and didn't know how to reach. Not wanting to argue, I asked them to keep the food and walked away.It's a shame because their eat-in service has been good over the years. Today's staff were outright appalling and unprofessional.

Our takeaway was delicious! It came with bread, dips and salad too. Really yum! Will definitely be ordering again. Thank you.

Appalling service, we waited over an hour for our main course whilst other customers who came in after us were served. Food sat for nearly 15 minutes on the serving counter waiting to be taken to the tables. But worst of all was their lack of adherence to covid restrictions, customers not wearing masks whilst walking round the restaurant. We saw a group of people without masks standing over the cooked food whilst having a heated discussion with the waiters. We will not be returning, clearly this restaurant cannot cope given previous reviews of slow and poor service and our experience.

We used to come here all the time when we wanted a Turkish meal, but found a much better one in Old Town Stevenage so go there now.Today we came here to check it out as it had been a long time since we had visited, and we were extremely disappointed. The staff were okay, face masks and all that. But the food we got was soooooo bland and tasteless, its like the chef had lost his taste buds for the day !! I had a big hunk of "seasoned and grilled salmon" - it was a huge piece of salmon but had not been remotely seasoned or grilled much - was like a boiled bit of Salmon and served with seasonal veg - didn't realise cooked celery was seasonal veg? The salad it came with was pretty dire too and all for £15.95 - very overpriced for what it is. We also had a mixed grill - apparently that was tasteless too !WOULD not RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT - there are better ones in Old Town Stevenage that should be tried.

I have been to Mevan a number of times before, this time was with the in laws and hubby to celebrate a birthday. The mixed starter mezze and meat platters were amazing value and well presented, but also the taste was fabulous. And to top it all, the staff - led by the new manager Tony - delivered a slice of birthday cake to the birthday boy, without anyone in our party asking or planning it. What an amazing touch, and so appreciated. Thank you for a wonderful evening, Mevan!

Fantastic food, great service, lots of food and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates good Turkish food!

I have contacted this restaurant via their contact us page x2 with no response & I have called the restaurant, the staff gave me an email address which I contacted and it has come back undeliverable. I will share the email I sent to the restaurant. Dear Sirs I have contacted you via your website x2 since I experienced a dreadful meal within your restaurant a couple of weeks ago. I was in on the 25th August and spent over £30 in a situation where I didn’t even get a meal myself. Things came at different times, my partner’s meal came first, I had to remind you about my daughter’s meal, which then had to be made, my meal then came - a steak which was overdone, when I asked for medium, it also came without any accompaniments, I asked the waiter who was helpful and he took it back to the kitchen, I soon received another steak which was not medium, but raw, and felt freezing, had clearly just come out of the fridge and was served to me blue. I subsequently left your restaurant without having a meal & had to pay for my partner & daughters sub standard meals, to avoid a scene. I saw your waiting staff trying to speak with the chef who was gesticulating wildly and behaving erratically, so I was not keen to aggravate further. I have emailed x2 via your ‘contact ya’ page and have had no response from you. I phoned today and spoke with your member of staff who put me on to your chef, Zafer...I was explaining my situation and he seemed more interested in checking the diary to see if I really was dining that night - I have been clear that I can show my credit card statement to prove I have been in your restaurant. I will be clear, I expect a refund - I can not afford to spend money on such dreadful experiences Thank you

Haven’t been to mevan for a few years, and I’m not sure what has happened! As we used to adore the place. Even though the restaurant was basically empty, it took a long time to get anything ordered and I had to flag the waiter down every time. Dirty plates left on our tables until we asked for the bill. The full platter choice used to include chargrilled vegetables, but it didn’t come with any and when we enquired they just said ‘we don’t do that anymore’. Portion size decreased also. All in all; disappointed with the service and the food. Also track and trace was non existent and the staff didn’t have any PPE on. Won’t be returning I’m afraid

After waiting to for a while we struggled to gather the attention of any of the waiters available even though there was approximately 4 tables in the whole place. The restaurant itself was absolutely freezing and the kitchen staff had no ppe on aswell as the waiters wearing masks under their nose. Once we ordered we waited around 30 mins plus for our food to arrive where we all exceptionally confused. The food was over priced, dry, bland and simple not acceptable. After we complained we had the food taken away and replaced with some platter which we did not ask for. We quickly asked for the bill and where told to pay for our meals which then was followed with some rude comments from what appeared to be the manager.

Poor service , drinks took ages to come - meal was bland and not worth the money £15 for a couple bits of lamb and some rice. When I asked for something else because it was dry the waiter told me it was because I had eaten too much bread at the beginning and tried to charge me for replacement as well as original meal when I had barely touched it. Overall would not return again and do not recommend!

It was my second time in Mevan and just because first time I had really lovely time and good experience I won't give them less than 4 stars, because yesterday was quite bad i had a good chat and company, so at one point we haven't noticed how long are we waiting for our starter ( smoke aubergine ) to arrive, it should never take more than 20 min, this starter is not made on order 100%. It took them ages to get us bread as well, so there's no organisation as only two people really knew what are they doing, but having 2 good waiters in huge and really busy place is impossible to make it work. Because they do everything, my waiter was running from one side to another. Of course it is difficult to remember everything. We've been waiting for ages for our mains to arrive, no cutlery, obviously, I asked for aother drink, I mean how long it takes to make one coke, but waiters been more busy sorting out the till rather than looking after customers. Food was just ok but there was no check back done. So who could I tell that?At the end one member of staff who worked at the bar was really nice and polite and he did apologise on my way out for the long wait, which is very nice of him, and I do understand that place is busy, but it is a shame, all they need is a bit of organisation and communication between staff. Because if two waiters decided to leave, this place will be ruined completely. Good luck.

Went here for the 1st time yesterday and quite simply the worst meal I've ever had at any restaurant. Waited 15 minutes for our order to be taken, then waited nearly 40 minutes for the food to arrive. Our orders were all kebabs so nothing difficult and normally these are served up very quickly elsewhere. When our food finally arrived it was cold. Not lukewarm or slightly warm but cold. Am absolutely disgusted that this restaurant would serve up food not fit to eat. Either the food was not reheated or it was freshly cooked and left out for half an hour before coming to us. AVOID THIS PLACE. Lots of empty tables due to Covid restrictions so not due to being mad busy.

Used the online booking system, received a response stating booking would be confirmed by email or text message. After 3 days no confirmation so called up and booked. Arrrivrd at 6:15 as arranged, big queue outside, some had booked some hadn’t. After waiting 20 minutes shown to our seats and then had to wait another 20 minutes to order drinks, we ordered the food at same time. Mixed platter for starter was good but the 4 mains we ordered were dried out and the portion size was inadequate especially for the price, 4 small squares of lamb and rice on the one plate. Service throughout was poor, they either need more staff or stop over stretching themselves by taking too many bookings. Won’t be back anytime soon, far too many much better places to dine out in the town.

We used to really love this restaurant so decided to book to go on Wednesday 26th August for an early dinner. We had tried the online booking but had no response so booked by phone instead. We arrived for 4.30 and were promptly shown to our seat by the waiter (no mask). Drinks order taken and after about twenty minutes we had out warm Coke on the table. Main courses ordered. Half hour later a warm dried out meal arrived. It looked like it had been sat about for ages, It was very poor quality as were the rest of the famiiy's food. When finished we thought we would have a desert so asked for the menu twice from different staff about ten minutes apart before finally getting them to read. We didn't see staff again for about half an hour despite trying to get their attention. It was not busy and the staff appeared to be simply boondoggling about with no real purpose. We gave up and eventually managed to ask for the bill which came another ten minutes later. Again no one came to actually take our money so we paid on our way out. Fortunately it was half price due to the eat out to help out scheme but then still not worth what we were charged.Poor quality food, dreadful service. Has the place been taken over because it never used to be like this and all the prices seem to have gone up a lot. We will never be returning as there are other Turkish restaurants in Hitchin which look good.

A very enjoyable meal albeit slightly disorganised due to what seemed to be new staff not being fully au fait with procedures. Can’t fault the meal in any way. Very tasty and lots of it. Well recommended 👍

Such friendly service and delicious food. Although the restaurant was exceptionally busy, the waiters managed to get around to everyone and the wide menu gave us all plenty of choice.

Don’t use the on Online booking system to bookHere. They take the booking say it will be confirmed soon then it never is !! First time it never got confirmed on a Sunday. I went anyway and the restaurant was dead so was no prob. Food was lovely soooo. Booked again on line. Same thing it wasn’t confirmed but I just thought after last time it be ok. I realised this time it was on a eat out to help out night. So I called just toMake sure but the waiter was so rude and off. This dinner was for my daughters 18 th birthday and he said “na we fully booked” I said but I booked on line for this a week ago. He said if we don’t confirm it then that’s coz it’s booked. HOW WOULD YOU KNOW THAT. OMG NEVER GOT A EMAIL BACK AT ALL TO SAY EITHER WAY. So her birthday meal out was totally ruined. No apology they just didn’t care cos it was on a eat out to help out night !!! I been going here for 7 years and not just a one off eat out to help out customer who probably won’t be regular after this promotion has finished. I have brought my whole office here for Christmas party’s over the years. !!! IS IT NEW OWNERS ??cos used to be nice people running it I emailed them saying how disappointed we was. They didn’t even reply. !!! I would have forgiven it it I had been offered a apology !!!THEIR RUDE I DONT CARE COS IMBUSY IN AIGUST ATTITUDE HAS COST THEMMANY FUTURE BOOKINGS FROMA LONG TERMCUSTOMER!! After lockdown I would have thought they would’ve grateful to the returning customers like me who came out straight away to support them but that is not given back !! Plenty of other Turkish restaurants about. !! Never going back !!!

This used to be my favourite restaurant in Hitchin but after my experience on the 11th August, I won’t be returning anytime soon. I went here for lunch a couple of weeks ago with my brother and enjoyed a meal from the lunchtime menu, paying roughly £7.50 per meal. My experience on the 11th for the ‘eat out to help out’ was far from pleasant. They gave me and my friend the evening menu’s to charge us more meaning the same meal I had a couple of weeks ago was double the price. The quality of the food was not up to standard, the restaurant was basically empty however service was very poor, we waited almost half an hour for our drinks and every time we tried to get their attention for the bill the server turned his head, making us wait just under an hour for the bill. The whole experience was very disappointing and as students we felt as though we wasted our time and money.

The waiter was so welcoming and helpful, the wait for food was quick and the food was delicious. Such a lovely meal out, will definitely be going back :)

Just had a lockdown takeaway from here and would highly recommend! This was for a special birthday celebration, and was beautifully prepared, packaged and presented ,with authentic bread and dips to accompany . The food here is consistently good and the business deserves to do well!

There were 10 of us that went for dinner on Sat night. Great tasty food and good atmosphere. Definitely recommend. Delicious food and at a reasonable price!

I'm surely not alone, in the whole collective dinning experience, good food and service decor and ambience "not much to ask you would think" . Well One out of four is what I got dinning here. Decor OK, but contemporary which is fine, but not a hint of being in a Turkish restaurant,the French music being played didn't add to the mood and made feel more in a Parisian bistro. The food was just OK, I didn't leave feeling I had a great meal as some parts was decent and other bits where lacking, the Kofte was tender but had a slight sour taste, the chilli sauce was bizzare in taste with no punch I couldn't quite put my finger on it. The hummus stater was OK falafel was nice in texture. So here's the slight redeeming part after talking to either a head server or the manager, whom ignored my request to have the French music changed, it took another server to simply change the play track and he done so without any quibbling or fuss or attatuide. I've lived in North London for over 30yrs and have eaten in many Turkish restaurants. This one is way down the list.

Used to love this restaurant and would recommend it regularly. Would not go there again after tonight. They’ve dropped a lot of the favourite authentic dishes (Lahmacun and puff bread), the service is poor and it’s lost its atmosphere. The octopus used to be amazing. Each one of us spat it into a napkin. It was inedible. Our waitress asked if we wanted our red wine put in ice! Our dessert was frozen (and shouldn’t have been) Now feels like a chain restaurant. Would rather go to Bosphrous on the same road for an authentic Turkish, family feel.

Food was super fresh and really tasty. There were some good vegetarian options. Lovely food and excellent service.

Visited for dinner yesterday and were very pleased with the selection of dishes on offer, Ingredients were high quality and expertly prepared. Great ambience and several well respected Turkish wines available. Made us both want to revisit, ( and book another sunny holiday in Turkey!)

We went to Mevan for a spontaneous evening meal on a Friday night and phoned ahead to book a table but when we got there they had no record of our call but the restaurant was surprisingly quiet so we got a table anyway.It's decor is fairly typical for the style of restaurant, nothing fancy, it's very causal (which isn't a bad thing) and clean throughout.It was lacking ambience, there was no music playing when we first arrived and it was very bright for an evening visit, we were seated at the back by the bar and was the only table in that area for the majority of our visit.The service was a little slow, especially considering how quiet the floor was and we had some wait times for orders to be taken and food to be brought over.The food quality is ok, and it is tasty but it is nothing that gives you a wow factor and if I'm brutally honest, its just a slightly better than average kebab that you can get from your local takeaway.Towards the end of our meal, the service stopped altogether, we had to get up and ask for our bill before we left but they were very polite and made an effort to say goodbye as we left.Overall, I have no real complaints from our visit but I think it's suited more towards a group of friends or maybe a family meal out, it's not somewhere I would rush back to for a romantic meal for two.

Great food, excellent service and as we called in by the off chance we were stunned that they bought out a small cake for the birthday girl. The waiter must have overheard us clinking glasses celebrating. It was an excellent evening, thanks guys.

We arrived with 4 adults and a baby in a highchair, ordered the drinks, no problem.Ordered what we thought would be enough food for us all, 2 sharing platters, and a kid's meal.When the first platter arrived, although it said on the menu that it serves 4 people, there wasn't enough food on the plate for 2. Case and point, there were only 3 prawns on a platter for 4.Ok we thought, it's a starter, the next platter will have more on it, because it's a main. Well we were let down again. This time the plate was piled high with rice and bulgar wheat, with a little bit of meat on the plate.This was most definitely not worth the £80 charged, and will definitely not be coming back.

Met some friends here recently and decided to have a meal here. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. We had mixed platter for starters a jumbo platter for main and Sutlac for dessert. The quantities were plentiful and everyone enjoyed their meal here and would recommend going there to eat again.

A business group of 10 ate very well on a rainy Monday night. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent. It was quick (but not rushed), and delicious. Highly recommend the Turkish wines (white and red).

Had meal with friends which was really lovely. The staff were pleasant and patient as some if us arrived a little late. Really liked the restaurant's turkish decor. We had pittas with dips to start with then I hsd the octopus which was cooked beautifully it came with vegetables and salad. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. The dessert menu looked tempting but instead i settled for mint tea which was full of fresh mint leaves and lemon and really rounded off the meal nicely. All in all this I enjoyed and would return.

I visited Mevan last weekend for a business dinner after a colleague's suggestion. The food, service and the cocktails are all five stars. I'll definitely visit again soon either for business or casual visit.

We paid quite a bit for the mixed platter, which we thought could have more meat than it did. We were still full, but therefore the price should have been less, especially as some was dry. Good service, though we were seated in an area which seemed to be for those who hadn't booked as it was near the bathrooms. Overall good, would try again.

Went there for a quick lunch and wasn't disappointed, selected from the set menu 2 course, basic but nice. The bread though is fabulous.do like Turkish food and will return

We had a meal there for my daughters 40th birthday. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was great. The staff were all helpful.

Food just ok nothing special. Wine expensive. Really Loud music over tannoy playing happy birthday every half hour We Go out in Hitchin a lot for meals. Won’t be going back to this one. Good if you have a large party and need to make a lot of noise. Waitress lovely but forgot a couple of dishes we asked for.

Table of 8 enjoyed a good meal. Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was very busy. Would definitely recommend this restaurant

Came here with 4 work colleagues for a birthday lunch. We all had the lunch deal 3 courses for £11 something? Great value, beautiful flavours. I had the halloumi, this could have been cooked a little more. It was only flashed lightly on the grill. Then had lamb skewers which came with rice and salad. Choc cake for pudding. Very nice, would definitely come back.

We arrived an hour before the listed close time. We saw we were some of the last in so checked we were okay to dine. We didn't want to keep them open late for one table of two but they insisted we were welcome.

We came here as a group of 4 and had a fine time. Extremely friendly and engaging staff along with generous servings of food. A good value and welcoming experience.

A local institution, great food. Spicy and fresh Turkish specialties are crowd pleasers. Large parties love this place, maybe not for a quiet time but fun to go when in the mood.

Myself and my partner came here for dinner with another couple. The service was good however definitely slumped toward the end. The starter was good, however my main was absolutely terrible. The chicken was slimy and inedible. For nearly £17 it was ridiculously over priced. My partner got the kebabs which were nice however only came up with about 6 small squares of meat and some rice which also totalled nearly £17.

Ate dinner here last night and wanted to write my review whilst fresh in my memory .

We visited for my birthday and what a treat! We had the sharing platters - the fish one to start and a full meat platter for mains. Portion size is very generous so 2 starter platters would have been enough, but they let us take our leftovers home with no question. I also got a free slice of cake with a candle and a rendition of happy birthday - embarrassing but fun! Service was efficient and friendly even though the restaurant was very busy. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Went for a Friends birthday, Whilst it was very busy we felt we were looked after very well and did not wait too long for our drinks or meals.

Six of us came in and were confident of a lovely evening having visited before, surpised to find the restaurant half empty on a Friday evening. Our meals were poor quality, sent back three meais.

Great potions sometimes service is abit slow but an overall positive experience Best on the street by far!!

This was my second visit & Mevan certainly didn’t disappoint.

The food is good however there is the chance you won’t get a table on a busy night even if you have booked in advance - my advice to the restaurant is please look at your customer care as your food is good!

My friend has raved about this place since the day it had opened and I finally decided to give it ago. I’ve never eaten Turkish food so wasn’t sure what to expect but I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The staff were great and really funny my glass was never empty they were very attentive despite being externally busy. Portion sized slightly smaller than what I thought but I’ll know for next time

Delightful Turkish lunch for 2 with 'mature' girlfriend. Chose 2-course lunch menu @£9.90 each, selection included TARAMA SALATA (smoked cod roe mousse) and IMAM BAYILDI (mixture of vegetables, peppers, olive oil baked on aubergine). Menu in Turkish with excellent English translation. Although we were in no hurry, table service was at times a bit slow considering the restaurant was not busy. Located in historic partly pedestrianised street (Sun Street). Comfortable seating and lots of light sitting near the window. Young Bulgarian waitress (26) was a Turkish Delight and entertained us with her jovial character and clearly spoken English.

This fire alarm had no cover or case which me and my friend thought was very dangerous. Its at head height so if she was too move her head she would keep hitting her head on the alarm. Other than that service was quite slow but food was amazing, drinks and food were quick even though they had a few big tables in. Friendly staff always smiling.

Went here for the first time to celebrate a 80th birthday. Service was great good excellent would definenitley go again

A warm welcome from staff, which is good. On the Friday evening my friend and myself went for a evening meal, the place was full. The noise level was high.

we went on 17th October for my daughters 18th birthday. All the staff were super and very friendly and they even presented us with birthday cake and free ice cream even though we had only booked that morning. Will definitely go again thank you so much for the good food and warm atmosphere!

Mevan sits at the end of a road that has another turkish restaurant a few blocks along, we almost order the same items 95% of the time we’ve ever eaten in here, the food is pretty healthy as far as eating out gets, we order the platter, which consists of 2 different types of rice/couscous, a nice mixture of grilled meat, accompanied by a bowl of micxed salad, this sets us back about £40, but it states on the menu that it feeds 4 peole, i would say more 3 healthy portions you would get out of it rather than 4. Pretty good value, more so than ordering individual mains, as we’ve made this mistake before when my 2 sons ordered 2 different mains, and the dissapointment on their faces was hilarious!!! I could almost see them thinking ‘what? I’d have this as a starter!’ .

We were seated by the door, which was not very warm. Busy Friday night.

This place is just fantastic, I have visited many times and have never had a bad meal or service. Would highly recommend a visit.

Have been before food excellent went on a Saturday evening shown to table on time but 15 min before we even got menu when waiter came to take order for drinks and food done together as so busy no time to explain menu. Very friendly staff but not enough of them. Dips arrived then 10 mins later bread then main course arrived before plates cleared. Portions also smaller than last visit, one meal wrong but not worth the wait to change it! Food was excellent but gave up on another round of drinks or wine with meal as meal finished before we could get anyone's attention. Ladies toilet no soap or toilet roll this was highlighted earlier in evening but staff too busy to rectify. Not a great situation with a packed restaurant. This won't be our first choice again a real shame as staff friendly and work so hard but customer service is very defiantly compromised. All around us tables waiting for food and drink. We would have been happy to spend rest of evening there with desserts and more drinks but didn't due to service. Subsequently went and had several rounds of drinks elsewhere.

Wonderfully cooked meat, well seasoned. The vibe is great, and the staff are lovely. The website is a little glitchy to order takeaway but once you get the hang of it it's worth it. We happily eat both in the restaurant and have had takeaway on a number of occasions.

Went here for the second time on a Saturday night. Restaurant was busy as you would expect. Our food couldn’t really be faulted and the ambience and atmosphere of the restaurant was excellent. However, for the second time the service simply isn’t good enough. The staff try their best as they are running around at 100mph , but there are simply nowhere near enough of them for a restaurant that is as popular as this. We had to wait a while to be seated , standing in front of the door as our table wasn’t ready, then a wait for menus and drinks and again waiting for food. No one ever came round to ask for extra drinks. Eventually we gave up after the main course, as even though we wanted a dessert, it simply wasn’t going to happen . After another wait , I had to go to the bar to pay so that we could leave. I know other people in the restaurant had a similar experience and complained and even left. The manager was very apologetic but this level of service is simply not good enough. A shame because as I said the food is excellent.

Lovely nice turkish restaurant in the heart of hitching definitely recommend it everyone... Though waiters needs to learn how to be professionals.. Too much friendliness also damages

Usually go to a Turkish restaurant in London but decided to try this 1 in Hitchin as closer to home in Luton.

We visited Mevan after passing the restaurant and thinking it looked gorgeous. When we arrived, we were not even greeted, merely being asked if we needed a table for two and then pointed towards the table. We then waited for a server to give us some menus or introduce themselves, but instead had to go and get the menus ourselves. I decided to have the soup of the day, which I was told was 'tomato soup', but turned out to be cheese and tomato soup, which was a close call as I don't eat dairy products at all. The main meals themselves were not too bad, although I would not say that they were worth the price we paid. In conclusion, I would not visit Mevan again as I felt uncomfortable the whole night, unwelcome due to the lack of friendly or helpful service from the staff and disappointed in the food.

Highly recommend this restaurant for its high standard of Turkish food. There is a good selection from the menu and specials board. It is a very popular restaurant so would always suggest booking a table

Been to this restaurant twice now and cannot praise it enough. The service is excellent, polite, helpful and quick. The food is fresh, cooked to perfection and so tasty. Staff produced a lovely piece of chocolate cake for my husband's birthday which was a great touch. Thank you. Tesukkur ederim.

So noisy couldn't hear each other speak, waited half an hour for drinks every time, not at all child friendly. Manager ignored complaints and very dismissive. Food poor. Horrible evening and went home with a headache. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else in Hitchin.

Been to Mevans many times in the past and have always enjoyed it. Not sure what’s going on but it seems to have changed.....First the good same great noisy atmosphere, good warm bread. Now the bad my beer was not cold, my pizza starter was burnt and had a lot less topping than before. My partners main was very greasy she said and mine had a small bone in it, it was meant to be boneless and a lot of gristle. I didn’t complain perhaps I should have but it’s always been so good before. Went away very disappointed. I think I’ll give it another go due to previously good experiences but if it’s the same then I won’t be going back. Hope that doesn’t happen.

3 couples out on Saturday evening for company drinks, ended up around 9.30pm just turning up to see if we could have a table for 6.

I really enjoyed the food here, service was good too. Love the charcoal grilled meats, simply delicious.

Had a great meal here tonight with friends. It was buzzing with life! The food was very tasty & there were lots of variety to choose from. All cooked well & excellent value for money! Would recommend.

Popped in here for a late lunch with my husband and toddler. Food was nice but the service wasn’t great. Waited ages for our drinks and the bill. Overall was average so wouldn’t rush back.

Visited for my dad's birthday. The food was excellent and our waiter Samet was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend the restaurant to friends and will be back again I'm sure.
