Good restaurant with homely food. Staff was very kind and warm welcoming especially Divya. Unfortunately restaurant is closing down, will miss for sure.

Very authentic south Indian food, clean place, friendly staff... Just don't bother with the 'too good to go' app though as this place will give you a miniscule amount of food that's supposed to be £12 worth for £4, but infact it's just £4 worth of food.

The worst restaurant I have ever been to. The food was horrendous, the waitress (Divya) was nasty and rude. No regard for food safety or hygiene at all.

It's authentic taste, so amazing ate so good food after a while. Definitely recommended and would definitely go again.. 😊😊

We like to try south Indian restaurants, so we were very excited about Mess. We ordered medu vada, kuzhipaniyaram, idly & mutton curry and mutton kothu. We liked the vada taste, it was crispy outside but felt empty, not very dense inside. Coconut chutney was one of the best we have ever tried. Kuzhipaniyaram was excellent, we will order it again! Very fluffy and tasty. Idly & mutton curry was exceptionally good, very flavourful. We really enjoyed the mutton kothu, which came as a very generous portion (can be easily shared by 2 people). Service was very kind, friendly and attentive (same management as in Biryani Centre, which we also recommend!). Overall, if you are looking for a nice pocket-friendly true south Indian restaurant with generous and flavorful portions and friendly service go to Mess! We are excited to try their breakfast buffet for just 12£ soon!!

Wanted a local restaurant that was different to our usual Korean, and after a quick Google we found Mess and thought we’d give it a try. We were not disappointed! What a gem of a restaurant! We were a little unsure the best way to order but our wonderful server talked us through the menu and suggested some amazing dishes for us to try. The portion sizes were great, the food was so flavourful, not oily, really filling, and I cannot wait to go back!

The food is good, but the service is horrendous. They offer a weekend buffet breakfast, during which some patrons arrived late. The manager kindly extended the time for them to enjoy their meal. However, we overheard a new employee making disparaging remarks about the tardy customers, which was entirely uncalled for. While it's understandable if latecomers couldn't be seated immediately, it's inappropriate to ridicule customers who are already dining. Furthermore, I witnessed this employee being rude to other customers on other occasions. If she is an owner, I hope she reads this and considers improving her behavior. Unfortunately, many Indian restaurants begin with promise, but employees like these tarnish their reputation. I genuinely like Mess and hope the owners can address these issues to maintain the support of their loyal customers. Thank you.

15/10 we as a family given to this lovely place🥰 feels like we are in India having great time...very welcoming....fantastic food and service. We as family had dosa with mutton curry, masala dosa, idly, mendu vada and masala chai....enjoyed thoroughly 😋 😀 👌 😄 pls keep up the good work and don't change anything 😉though it was busy due to mother's day and we had to wait around 20mins but it was worth the wait for sure!!! Pls don't forget to be patient and kind I promise it will be worth it 👏🙌👐👍👌

I have ordered Paniyaram, vada sambar, pineapple kesari through uber eats and all was awesome and flavourful. Packaging was very nice and food was hot 👌👌👌 We need to support these kind of restaurants providing good and flavorful south indian food

Caught up for breakfast with a friend at the Mess on a Sunday morning. Absolutely amazing spread... Very satisfying. We visited this place after a year or so and the food and experience was actually better. Well done !

Do not go here if you have a food allergy or intolerance. Mess have no regard for those with food allergies or intolerances.Divya was made aware of my son's severe nut allergy and assured us that the dish he ordered did not contain nuts. Sadly, my son was served a curry that contained cashew nut paste which resulted in an allergic reaction. It is extremely alarming to think that, had he eaten more of that dish, his reaction would have been far more severe and even life-threatening. Divya and Raja did not grasp the severity of the situation and it is apparent that the owners, Radhika and Thiru, are not complying with the Food Standard Agency's rules regarding allergens.

Great overall experience, all dishes were of brilliant taste and authentic South Indian food. Had great customer service with lovely waiter with her recommendations. Would definitely recommend, although a bit on the pricey side

Am not sure how to review for Mess. Food, Taste and Service was Good. Ambiance for the price is Ok. What put me off was the hygiene as they had to exempt my bill due to hygiene issue. So, experience of taste was good but as we encountered something in our food which was not expected brings everything to Zero…

Sambhar is not nice, rest is great

At Mess, we have discovered an unparalleled South Indian eatery, with a great ambience and very friendly staff. We tried the breakfast buffet, and the freshness of the sambar, chutneys and dosas/idlis/uttapams was simply amazing! Tastes were very authentic too, and we will undoubtedly be returning very soon!

Ghee rice with Kalyana veetu mutton curry was Amazing. Must try. Parota and Salna also yummy.

I love this restaurant. It has a homely feel that is refreshing, while serving good food. You won't be disappointed if you are after authentic Indian food and don't expect the sophistication of Dishoom or high end restaurants.

Really lovely dishes - we had the goobi chilli fry (Hakka Chinese) and Mysore Masala Dosai and masala coffee as well as chai. Will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu! Very warm service too…😊

Excellent buffet breakfast, with food cooked fresh and in small batches. Friendly service and a bit of a treat. They little vadai were particularly good, dosa are made on request and the buffet is completely vegetarian.

Great south Indian spread and amazing service!

It was our first time at Mess last night. We will definitely be back. The food was outstanding and our waiter Sheriff was very friendly and informative. The mutton starter wrapped in parotha dipped in the chicken was a great recommendation. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

I wish there was an option to give zero stars because that's what I would give to this review, ZERO STARS. They served good food once but it's changed now. I ordered with them today and had to throw all the food in the bin. It was stale, undercooked and inedible. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Family run South Indian restaurant. Extremely happy with the food. Very powerful punch and deep flavour from the mutton curry. The menu itself has tons of items I’ve never heard of. Am excited to try them on repeat visits. Pricing is also super reasonable. Highly recommend a visit.

Oct Update: We again went to Mess with some friends and ordered 5 Veg Thalis. The food was quite tasty like before and we would still give it 5 stars. Previously: We had a 5 star experience at Mess. We went at 5:00 p.m. and ordered Chicken curry, Rice and Poori masala. The restaurant executives are very polite and humble. The ambience of the restaurant is almost perfect. There is ample natural light, comfortable seating and pleasant-low-volume-music. The food was delicious and had good portions. Perfectly cooked with great taste.

First time eating here and we loved it. Highly recommended and helpful friendly staff.

Vada Pav and poori bhaji were as good as get in India; I highly recommend this place

Delicious food and friendly service. Mysore masala dosas are huge and crispy. Karai dosa was a thick soft dosa with meat mixed in the batter served with rich mutton-bone sambar. The vadai are cooked fresh to order and soaked in spiced yogurt. Less than £20 per person including drinks. So lucky to have this just at the end of our road.

Vada pavs are excellent though little expensive

All staff were very welcoming and keen that my husband and I had what we needed, including understanding the varieties of food. The food was delicious and clearly made to order. I recommend this place to anyone.

The review came after I did a dinner there. The Ala carte menu is very limited and they are working on it. Place is little squeezed , but you will have the best service irrespective where ever you sit. I gave overall 5 star mostly for their lovable Breakfast menu. Its so authentic and close to home food. So be early :) An unlimited buffet on a Sunday morning with a coffee or their tea is a delight. Even if you are closer to the end and if you noticed the buffet menu are getting limited they would still provide you with alternate choices instantly. Mess food place at New Malden undoubtedly one of the nicest south indian you should try.

So we are from Chennai and live around here , our regular haunt for dosa opens later so we decided to give Mess a try . The thought of a South Indian breakfast buffet was mouth watering . But we were disappointed, the food lacked authenticity, the flavours were ok ok , Sambhar had no salt and lacked the true flavour . Dosa made in vegetable oil - I mean no ghee roast 😭. Maybe we had high expectations but all we ask for is to match 60% of authenticity to what’s set …. You really need to work on the taste … I would like to add that the management has taken my feedback and even offered a refund that we refused . We really appreciate that they cared 😊.

We went here couple of times. The food is great. The service is good. The price is amazing. It’s definitely a must go if you fancy South Indian food. We went there to celebrate a birthday party 🥳 and everyone loved it. The combination of meat curry with dosa was a new experience to me but above all the food was very very tasty.

Went here after being taken aback by the reviews on Google. Went on a Sunday evening.. Very quiet. The food was not particularly tasty (Mutton curry and Chicken fry) and the Thali curries and chicken /mutton were bland. I'm hoping it was a bad day. Very disappointed. The person who served us was very nice and trying to understand what we didn't enjoy so that was good

Paid £10pp first then have breakfast buffet, the food doesn't have any meat and only tiny bit veggies in the soup, not many options, they bring dosa freshly fry to the table, somehow they didn't serve our dosa in a roll shape like others, just fold it half, which looks interesting. all tasted alright, service was polite, good for one off experience.

Couldn’t be happier with my Dosa & Curry lunch. Very tasteful decor and menu. Same owners of the new specialist Biryani restaurant on Burlington Road. Food was great quality. I’m told on weekends they have an ‘all you can eat’ breakfast buffet, and Thalis for lunch which I can’t wait to try. Will definitely be back. Nice to have new food options in New Malden.

Reasonably priced and tasty south Indian food. The staff are very friendly. My only suggestion would be to have labelling on the menu to show allergens and to mark if items are vegan, for those with dietary requirements.

So this time I tried the uttapam - never had such a fluffy uttapam in my life. So fresh and fluffy and yummm. I missed my thali though - the best in South West London.

This place serves authentic food. Since the time I heard about this place, I have been there five to seven times in a period of two months especially for the weekend breakfast buffet. Place has an amazing feel to it with instrumental music. It takes me back to India. Food is delicious with rich menu and staff is welcoming. To avoid disappointment make sure to reach early on weekends for a buffet ( we have been turned away once). We also recently visited for Al Carte one evening and that’s also quite nice. Filter coffee and kesar bhaat (buffet only) are my favourites here.

Wow this food packs a punch! The reviews don’t lie, the food was absolutely delicious. We appreciated being brought through the menu by Sharif, who explained each dish to us and was very patient. The service was really great. Thank you to you all for such a wonderful meal. Would recommend to try as much of the menu as you can, and get the mango lassi! We can’t wait to come back!

First time I've experienced quality south Indian food and it's a all you can eat for 12 pounds! In these times! But to eat you'll definitely have to wait for a long time as the buffet dishes don't come fast enough and the wait time is at least 30-40 mins for hot items. Dosa was simply too good along with fresh idilis and vada and poori! Superyum. The staff does their best. Please do not ask your guests to get up and relocate once they're assigned a table. It doesn't matter if they're alone but ask them if they're waiting before to be seated. You can also take bookings and manage this all better. There were other guests having a tiff with the staff but all this could've easily been avoided if the buffet was refilled fast enough. I do understand it's a new beginning and there will be hiccups but I do hope you improve this and simply would be the best in town if you do. Charge more while at it as this simply is a great deal! The staff was extremely friendly and did discuss their challenges. I hope they amend their changes they've planned sooner than later. Definitely worth a visit if you're going to Richmond park side. Try the Kesari, Pongal while you wait for the refill of everything else. Or you can always go before 9:30 to get ahead of the rush. Thank you for genuinely honest south Indian dishes. Looking forward to a new beautiful restaurant in Central London.

We have been there Friday evenings post swimming, and it's always a pleasure to eat there! Run by a Palakkad couple from Mumbai, this would easily be the best / authentic south Indian food in the vicinity of Wimbledon/ Raynes Park/ New Malden.

Went with family on a rainy day and really enjoyed authentic South Indian food. They had pav bhaji, Mumbai mysore masala dosa as coronation specials. One of the best pav bhaji ever ❤️ Friendly staff, owner

The food was good and tasty but the service and the dining experience was EXTREMELY POOR and disappointing. We were a group of 5, ordering just 5 sets of dosa. So it shouldn't take long to prepare 5 sets of dosa for 5 people. We were kept waiting after our initial drinks were served. And after 30 minutes, 2 sets of dosas were served. The two diners finished eating whilst the remaining 3 waited for theirs. After 40 minutes, the 3rd got her dosa. The 4th got his after nearly 50 minutes, followed by the 5th after nearly an hour plus. We paid about £85 in total for the very poor service and dining experience. As I left , I did manage to speak to the owner and offer some constructive feedback about how to improve the customer service and experience but somewhat felt it was not warmly and positively received.

Delicious traditional south Indian Sunday morning breakfast buffet starting with Kesari, uttapam, idli, vada, poori, pongal, dosai, masala dosai, chutneys and sambar. Ending with digestion friendly ginger tea. Service is really good and the staff came to the table abs served hot vadas, dosais and puris. Friendly and relaxing environment.

Amazing South Indian food for very affordable prices. We ordered way too much food because everything tasted so good and we wanted to try all but the bill still was very reasonable. Would definitely recommend. And the customer service was impeccable !

Simplistic but packed with flavour! Friendly staff and even got a couple of visits from the chef to check on us. Tried out the snacks, dosai with chicken and mutton curries for lunch. Will surely come back for more, especially breakfast!

Excellent place for South Indian breakfast buffet, possibly the only one in and around Southwest London. The staff were very warm and courteous. The seating is slightly cramped, but it's not a deal-breaker. Items of note are dosa, vada, kesari and their lovely chutneys. The pongal was pretty good too. I wish they'd included South Indian style filter coffee in the buffet too. But all said, we had a very satisfying meal!

Absolutely wonderful good quality authentic food. Will definitely recommend. One small suggestion - Maybe have smaller chairs so there is enough room to move around.

What a hidden gem! Don't go expecting the normal curry house, Mess is a seriously authentic South Indian restarauny. The portion sizes were huge and superb value for money - Best Dosai I have ever had. Will definetly be back and can't wait to try their buffet breakfast!
