Mercure Cardiff North Hotel in Cardiff

Roomy hotel. Spacious rooms. Filled in questionnaire and was promised email within minutes containing a free drink voucher for the bar in return. Almost a week later and no email received.

Came with my colleagues for a time out and we really enjoyed the meals and service by the waiter Panchi

It was ok, Panchi was nice and suggested the fish and chips which was tasty I would highly recommend

Great hotel with cosy rooms and friendly staff

Good rooms, clean, helpful staff. Great food at a reasonable price in the restaurant by Panchi. Was able to check in after 11pm.

Good place to stay for work. Ladies on reception very friendly and helpful

The window was broken in our first room and this was quickly sorted by way of giving us a new room and even gave us a complimentary drink each.

Lovely clean spacious room jabin the receptionist was so helpful and couldn't do enough to make our stay very nice and made us very welcome .bed was clean comfortable and huge breakfast well worth the price

Often stay here for work. Carpets in corridors could do with replacing and more pillows for the beds please. However the food is always 5 stars... always beautifully cooked and presented. Panchi looked after me for dinner service and drinks... he is a true professional and an absolute Gent.. Panchi, thank you for amazing customer service.

The whole hotel is delightful! Lovely rooms. Very clean. Friendly staff, especially on the main reception, and Panchi in the restaurant. He recommended me a meal and it was sublime! Thanks Panchi!

I stayed in room 334 so perhaps that will give this review more context. First of all, there were some weird noises throughout the night. I can hear sounds from the room above. Some kind of stomping maybe. Next, there was a door in my room that probably led to another room. I can hear the occupant of the other room making weird noises as well as their dog(?) barking. I am not sure if that is an animal or whatever. Another thing is that the AC is too loud. Tried different settings but mostly the same. Ofcourse I can shut it off but I will probably freeze to death since it is cold. I can't really say this is a 4 star hotel given this experience.

Quiet, comfortable and relaxed, excellent very accommodating staff. Also has a large car park which is free to guests, which is unusual these days! Namaste 🙏

Not worth staying here..go into the centre. Rip you off for parking..joke £8 a night 4 miles from the city!!! £12-15 I. Uber.. won't bother again. Rooms are small. Don't bother

Went to get a coffee in the morning and waited for 15mins while the attendant was having a friendly conversation with a fellow staff member. Did not pay attention to who was waiting which resulted in a big queue and lot of customers turned away because of the wait.

Have stayed here for a couple of times and, comparing to other hotels of the same class in Cardiff, Mercure North seems to be one of the best. I enjoyed rooms of a proper size, full breakfast (which is now rare amongst other economy-class hotels) and acceptable choice for evening meal when I was tired and didn't want to go out. The only disadvantage for me was a pricey parking on-site.

Nice cheap stay rooms excellent..not much else didn't use restaurant had a drink in bar ..

Clean, quiet , nice breakfast BUT the additional bed is not cosy at all

The hotel is a bit old, but the reception area is very well designed, the hotel is clean and the food (buffet) is very good. The employees are all nice and helpful.

Had a nasty bed bug bite rash after just an overnight stay

Stayed here with a tour group. Hotel room was lovely and very spacious. When I entered the room it was stinking hot and immediately went to turn on the aircon. After 10 mins of holding down the button it still did not turn on. I then read on their welcome sheet that you need to ask reception to turn it on. I log the support through their app and after an hour no one came. I then walked down to reception and spoke to the rudest receptionist I have ever met. She did not care that my aircon was not working and said she would send someone. Almost 2 hours comes and still nobody I go back to reception and again this lady was there. I asked how long it would be as it was 7:30pm and I would like to go to bed she just shrugged and continued to text on her phone I asked again and she said she would text maintenance and continued to ignore me. Went back to my room extremely disappointed and finally got the aircon to work.

From the outside, this hotel, in succession of hotels on our tour, looked a bit run down, but the rooms were lovely, the beds were comfortable and the showers were the best on the trip. Of the seven hotels I stayed in, this one was the best one.

Clean well services rooms. Did not eat there as has dinner elsewhere.

Stayed for a night midweek. Had an evening meal that was good enough quality, staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was appalling. Full tray of sausages were dangerously undercooked and the remaining food didn't look great. Rooms were well decorated and comfortable, however heating is controlled centrally which is very annoying. Located well outside of Cardiff centre.

Lovely hotel really clean apart from a small amount of dust on the plug socket but you can't expect perfection! One negative would be you cant get through on the phone, I tried several times and was ringing for over 40 minutes in total before I gave up, and on arrival was waiting a while for reception, other than that the staff were brillant, really polite and so helpful! The man's name we believe began with P who wore a turban and he helped us with our room and an extra bed for our daughter and he also went to get us a highchair! So kind! What an asset to this hotel! The one thing which we would of changed is having a bath for our 2 year old daughter and we picked it as it was child friendly but I didn't find the rooms particularly child friendly especially the bathroom and the large sink which was her head level and she bashed her head on it :,( she was OK but I wouldn't want that room again but I believe they are all the same.

Truly one of the worst hotels o have every stayed in. I will start from the top - they're charging you £8 parking a day to stay in Llanedeyrn which is a complete joke considering the location.. Now onto the rooms, I specifically asked for a room that didn't back on the a48 as it is a main route into Cardiff and therefore noisy - then the room given was backing onto the a48 so the receptionist kindly moved me. We then moved to room 217 and the extractor fan in the toilet was so loud it was an utter disgrace- when you turned it off using the kill switch it wouldn't matter because the other rooms had it on and you could hear. I then requested to be moved again, to which I was moved to room 304 one of their premium rooms. This was worse. The window was broken so it couldn't close - the air conditioning doesn't work in the whole building and about every 30 minutes there is a massive loud gurgle from the pipes. This hotel is a truly brand damaging hotel for the Mercure brand and a utter disgrace. I wouldn't recommend even turning this hotel into a dogs home.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Great location for visiting family in Cardiff. Not an upmarket hotel but clean, well kept, nice rooms and great staff. This will be our regular hotel to visit my family back in Cardiff.

Have stayed here a few times now with work. Cant complaint , good food, nice team, very good breakfast. Rooms are well kept and clean. One suggestions update your TVs so guests can cast !. Be back definately

Greeted by amazing staff. Rooms were clean, tidy and spacious. Had a great meal when I got there and a really impressive spread for breakfast. 5 star all day?

Whenever I'm in Cardiff, I always stay at the Mercure Cardiff North Hotel. The food and service are excellent, the staff are pleasant and helpful, and the rooms are spacious, clean, and tidy.

All of the staff were very welcoming and kind, nice room to stay in and a very comfortable nights sleep. The food was great, would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Check-in and bar staff all very pleasant to deal with and a nice experience overall. Quality of dinner was lacking and the format of the restaurant was more like a canteen than a 4* hotel restaurant. The food was basic pub grub and not 4* hotel food. Breakfast was good, with good selections, but again felt like a canteen. The staff manning the restaurant at breakfast were rude and dismissive, and in stark contrast to the staff at the bar and the rest of the hotel. I could see they were busy and harassed, but they were still pretty rude in my view. There are plenty of other hotel choices in the area, so I would not recommend this one particularly, based on my personal experience from the one visit.

The breakfast was one big chaos. Dirty tables, not enough food, searching for cups, plates and cutlery. Public toilets were dirty 3 days in a row. REALLY dirty. Emergency doors open all day. Near the rooms. Unsafe and inviting for .... Carpets in the corridors dirty and very dusty..... Would not recommend going there. Would not recommend people thinking if going there.

We came there to celebrate my sister's 40th Wedding Anniversary. The hotel placed a bottle of wine & 2 boxes of Lindt chocolates in her room and she was pleasant surprised & touched. We had breakfast on both days and Dinner on the second evening in the restaurant --- the food was excellent to a very high standard & the staff were very courteous.

Dropped a family member off for a dinner function. Used the gents on the ground floor....disgusting. about 2cm if 'water' on the floor, soap dispenser broken. Just piss poor

No where near 4 star. 2.5 at best. 300 rooms served by one small elevator. Generous size rooms though.

Very angry. Just been sent £100 fine for not paying for the car park. We were not prompted to pay for the car park on checking in. This is robbery.

I like to update my review , I have been staying at Mercure Cardiff North on a regular basis for the past 4 years - the staff and management have always been amazing - but today at breakfast I was shocked by the attitude of one of the staff (Idris) who was extremely rude and confrontational - to the point I felt like almost felt threatened by him - I reported him to management - hopefully appropriate action will be taken

I stayed here for a business trip for one week. The room seemed to be clean but it is so dark that you can’t really tell if it is clean or not. That’s actually an issue - the lightening is bad. I couldn’t really work in the room since it had only a yellow ambient lightening and not a normal main source of light. The bathroom can be slightly cold if you don’t leave the door open so that warm air from the A/C can enter. It is shameful that they don’t have a breakfast included, especially for long stays in the hotel which is not so cheap and out of the center… at least one small sandwich would make things better, but nop 👎🏼. Another thing is that the area is not very nice. Unless you have to do something in that area, i don’t recommend you to stay. I was even told by taxi drivers to not walk around alone after it gets dark. Before I knew that, I did take a walk and it really felt unsafe. The staff was ok, I didn’t have much contact with them. Only had an incident when I arrived - they couldn’t find me in their system (it was booked under other name by mistake but I actually changed it a week before arrival so I don’t know why they didn’t have updated information). They were nice enough to warm my homemade food in their microwave. There is a small gym, but almost all machines, except one, are for cardio exercises. Almost no restaurants or shops in the area. No fridge in the room but they said I can use theirs if I really need for something.

can t Comment on the food because after 1.30 hrs we still hadnt received it but the staff couldnt be bothered . Served 3 tables that came in after we had ordered. Our money was good enough to pay for the hotel but we felt like second class citizens

The room was OK except for the heating, which wasn't working. The room was cold. Also when we returned back to the room there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke in our bathroom. As we are both non smokers we found the smell quite offensive. Luckily there was a window in the bathroom which we had to leave open all night to get rid of the smell, which this time of year isn't ideal. The breakfast was really good and no complaints there.

Service at the bar was a disgrace.
