Melkam Cafe & Restaurant in Leeds

This is the 4th time I have visited. I always have the vegetarian platter followed by coffee. The chef roasts the beans herself while you are eating. Wonderful variety of tastes. Well worth the visit!!

This was the first time we had visited this restaurant and we all agreed that this restaurant was a delight to eat in. The food was extremely tasty with a lovely host and authentic flavours from Ethiopia. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a enjoyable atmosphere and delicious food to match.

First time eating Ethiopian cuisine and I was not disappointed. My friend and I shared the vegetarian platter which was really varied, huge and full of flavour! A real authentic experience, no knives and forks... you just get stuck in with the injera bread :) The man who served us (I believe he is the owner) was friendly, funny and accommodating. Would definitely visit again and will recommend to friends.

This hidden gem is amazing. Met my friend here for a Friday night catch up. The owner is a lovely, warm and friendly man. We asked him for a vegetarian meal and he brought out a beautiful platter of different things with a plate of injera. We loved it! We followed this with some tea and a nutty snack. Lovely welcoming atmosphere. Please try this restaurant if you've never tried Ethiopian cuisine before you will be pleasantly surprised or if you have tried Ethiopian before then you will love it. Make the trip out of town for this lovely restaurant. You will not be disappointed 😀

Amazing overal experience. The food was gorgeous, the coffee ceremony was special and the service was exceptional and friendly. We were really looked after and treated like royalty. The Misto Platter was fantastic, I am vegetarian and my friend is a meat eater, so we had a half and half platter which was delightful. We are definitely going back and are planning to take work collegues for a special night.

First time eating Ethiopian food and loved it. Really tasty, spicy flavoursome food in a unique sociable way. Everyone loved it in a party of 11. The front man was extremely friendly, always laughing. Small, cosy, reasonable, no frills, authentic food. Myself and colleagues are definitely coming back!

This is the first time I have eaten Ethiopian and I loved it - if you like spicy meat based dishes and don't mind eating with your fingers then this is for you. The dishes would work really well for a group as they are designed to be shared, though this was a solo visit when I was on a work trip. The staff are friendly and happy to tell you all about the origins and history of the dishes and the atmosphere was good.

5 th time here and as ever the food was fabulous . This is my favourite place to stop for lunch . The food is made with love and is always fresh . Great coffee too .

Nice little restaurant in Harehills, just outside Leeds city centre. Atmosphere is quiet and relaxing with a soft music in the background. The owner is very friendly and happy to describe different dishes accurately to make sure you get something you really like. We ordered a lamb dish and a vegetarian one, and we had the option to get them served together on one large flat bread ( the traditional injera). We really had fun eating with our hands, as it is supposed to be following the Ethiopian tradition. Everything was delicious and well presented, portions were big and very filling. Definitely recommended if you are looking for something different and rich in flavour. We will surely go back soon!

Just got the urge for Ethiopian cusine, this afternoon working in Leeds city centre. And found this little gem, the boss 😀 and her husband were super hosts, the food was delicious and the coffee was as expected " flawless".
