M&D Japanese Restaurant in Lewisham

It is very cheap but the sushi has little fish and overcooked rice. Other items were a bit better but it's not a place I'll try again. We were four friends and none of us liked it. Unless you're on a very low budget, don't go.

I’ve been here so many times now and every time i love it. Its so cheap and so much good sushi. Its my favourite place to eat with friends or on your own

Popped it while working near by. Had the lunch special katsu curry. It was delicious! Crispy chicken , nicely seasoned and it was a good portion too.

I will leave my original underneath This was my favourite restaurant in Deptford. There are 2 chefs - I'm leaving the review below for him! The other the older man has just ensured I won't be going again - maybe after I stop being angry and ONLY if the younger chef is working! I have been raving to all and sundry about the wakame salad. Today I ordered three, to take with us travelling tomorrow. I bought containers because theirs are shit and they leak. The salads were iceberg lettuce with a smattering of the actual wakame mix on top - I would estimate the ration about 75/35! The grill duck can only be described as meagre in relation to what I have had at every meal in there and take away. There was not a single vegetable, just duck on the ubiquitous iceberg/ And the last 2 sushi rolls were pretty much empty Do you really think you can get away with that just cos it's take away. So Angry. So gutted. Another one bites the dust! Original review: Atmosphere - mwah. You come, you create your own and you may. They don't charge corkage and you can byob/w. The food is spectacular, the service is excellent, the value is mind blowing. I love the duck! Everything with duck - yakisoba, sushi rolls, grilled The wakame salad is the BEST I have EVER had

Best sushi in London 🍣 We have been back to M&D twice now and both visits the food has been absolutely delicious. We love their sushi so fresh and tasty. We love their crunchy roll deal for £7 for a gorgeous portion of sushi. Affordable, satisfying and the staff are very welcoming. Would greatly recommend. We’ll be back soon!

Hit and miss, recently mostly miss. Ordered a big vegetable roll and was charged £10 for it, mostly raw cabbage with lettuce as a filling, 90% overcooked rice. No soy sauce no wasabi no ginger. The tofu yakisoba is very sour, no sauce but oil. The tofu was the best part of it. On the menu it says 5 nigiri, received 4. Disappointing for sure

The "Duck Udon" (£12) consisted of about 80% vegetables, 10% udon and 10% duck. Given the name, you'd expect that the main component of the dish would be either duck or udon but unfortunately that wasn't our experience. The pumpkin Korroke was £3 each and the name implied it would be more than one, it was actually one piece cut into two. All feels a bit like spending the absolute minimum on ingredients and charging far more than the food is worth.

Unassuming little takeaway from the outside, M and D reveals spotlessly clean inside decor with comfy and spacious diner seats, immediately creating a convivial atmosphere. You order at the counter and the food is freshly made for you. Tasty and well presented, priced very well for London, this serendipitous find is now marked in my “must come back” list.

Quality food and efficient service. Had the duck udon, miso (which was excellent) and some sushi which was also first class. From the outside the place looks more like a Deptford hardware store than a Japanese eatery but all in all definitely worth a visit.

I ordered chicken yakisoba. They are using cheap quick-cook spaghetti pasta instead of authentic noodles. Nuff said.

New to the area and have already been loads of times. Fresh delicious food, reasonabley priced and super quick! Couldn't ask for more really. Bang on

Order the salmon teriyaki, a “main” it came without any sides. But sides were all unavailable to add anyway. Not sure what sort of main doesn’t come as a full meal, so that was disappointing

Been coming here for years and it is one of the best value places you’ll find, big portions, good food and low cost

The sushi rice looks cooked a bit mushey and the chicken used in my Ramon soup was too dry, like it had already been cooked and just added at the end. And the prawns were a bit over cooked in the prawn soup. This is one of our usuals but on this occasion we found it a bit underwhelming.

No frills Japanese restaurants with lots of choices at a good price. They do take card now but have a 20p surcharge. I really likes the spicy prawn ramen.

It’s not the first time I’ve eaten here, and definitely won’t be the last. The best sushi in London I swear, always the perfect portion and the greatest taste, I’m living so far but when I fancy the best sushi it doesn’t matter if I have to take a long trip by bus to get here, I’m always glad to come back

First time here. I'm sold! The food is excellent; generous portions, beautifully presented, super reasonable prices. The people working are conspicuous to take space. The service is quick, efficiënt & understated. My wakame (there was more edamame than wakame to be honest) was (swear words) amazing! Beautiful to look at, range of tastes, textures & colours. I think the best salad I have EVER had. I took half home (my sis nabbed it)! I'll be back!

The order wasnt exactly what we ordered. Didnt get the prawns , just beef. And the fried rice wasnt fried at all. It was just sushi rice without any tast. Not even salt.

All the food except the tempura was great. Prawn tempura had way too much batter, and the meat felt rubbery. So taking a star off for that. Service was fast, and atmosphere was excellent as well - nice and quiet even though the place was full!

Good quality authentic ramen and gyozas. Well priced for London too. Eat in or are away. Decent little restaurant, if I'm back in the area I'll go again for sure. Had the spicy seafood with udon noodles, tastey broth and a good amount of food.

The delivery driver forgot to deliver some items I Ordered and mentioned that when he delivers to rich peoples eras the people come down to the door to pick up the food but when he comes to deliver to poor peoples era he has to come to the door and we don’t come downstairs like the rich people I found that comment stupid and ignorant but moving on…..the food is delicious fresh and amazing the restaurant is very good 😊 5***** from me I highly recommend M&D Japanese restaurant

Delicious katsu, generous Portion, tasty sauce and the mochi was incredible.

So, I'd written immediately upon tasting it that 1 dish was undercooked (and cold although didn't feel the need to say that too). I did that via Just Eat rather than leaving a rotten review, as I don't believe in having a go at small restaurants. But just Eat has 24 hours later refused to refund the one item and has rather said I need to publicly complain. So whilst lots of the food was good, the chicken karaage was undercooked and inedible. So here is a bad review that will impact the restaurant (albeit possibly the restaurant refused to act) despite me following the process in the app almost immediately and sharing a photo. I can promise you no one consumed the dish and I wouldn't recommend it. A shame. Apparently some restaurants cook things differently: undercooked it would appear.

Very good chicken katsu and sushi.

Ordered sushi. Was fine but arrived really warm so was a bit put off especially as its cold at the moment so wouldn't be from travel. I've ordered hot food from them before which was great but wouldn't recommend the sushi.

Been loads of times for a mix of Japanese and Chinese food. It has *always* been top notch and at really good prices. Very veggie (and non-veg) friendly. Highly, highly recommended. NOTE - IT'S CASH ONLY. Closest place to get booze is out of restaurant and turn right. Few shops to choose from, but Housewife's Cash and Carry is my go-to place.

Way overpriced. Paid 17£ for chicken yakisoba. The portion was regular-size and the food tasted very standard. Complete rip-off

Amazing presentation of food and excellent flavour too. Nice squishy sushi rice and plump biteable fish on top. A good selection of sushi, sashimi and a bento box were tried all of which were excellent. There is no photo of the Bento box sadly which was beautifully presented like the rest of our food. Portion sizes were generous and plenty for the three of us and I dont think we topped much more than £10 a head. The taste of the food was very good and equal if not better than some of the sushi chains in the UK. Portion sizes were larger than the the chains in the UK. Definitely an authentic tasty Japanese experience! The only down side with the food was not enough wasabi or ginger and not quite spicy enough for me. They were very allergy conscious which was reassuring. I adore sushi and Japanese food and hate to be excluded but I could eat the sushi with ease. I would have loved to eat other items on the menu too so just a little bit more allergy consciousness would be great such as making other dishes available to nut and seed sufferers. This isn't a restaurant it more resembles an authentic Japense sushi bar so it looks somewhere between a takeaway and a small but smart cafe. It is a lovely intimate and yet informal setting to have fun with friends, family or dates. It could be the pit stop you need before visiting the games cafe nearby.

M&D Japanese restaurant is located at the Deford High Street and with 3 minutes walk away from the train station, a very easy to find place. 👍 The chef and staff are friendly and always smiling, making everyone feels welcome and comfortable. 😃 What's more comfortable are the soft sofas and big tables, making the restaurant ideal place for evenings and weekends hangouts. 💓

Quick delivery but disappointing food - “chicken teriyaki” made with dry white meat and v little sauce, stale-tasting salmon skin roll (and wrong type delivered), beef teriyaki came deep fried (??)

10 out of 10!! I wish I lived closer but it doesn't stop me walking the longer journey to visit. Ever since my first visit i've been so in love with the tempura prawns for starters and pumpkin korroke curry for mains, that i've never tried anything else (yet) because it was SO delicious and at such an amazing price! I've seen someone else comment about the interior decor being "dated" but don't change anything about this place! This is what makes it unique! It's not the same as everywhere else. Was so over the moon when I felt assured that this business survived covid Thank you M&Ds!

We walked up deptford high street looking for somewhere to sit and eat and stumbled upon this place. Food was fantastic, sushi rolls are banging, katsu curry was unreal and the mrs really enjoyed her ramen noodles. Would highly recommend over any Wagamama anyday of the week.

The restaurant is a bit outdated and interior looks a bit lost. As an interior designer I would change the interior as soon as possible but THE FOOD is sooooo good and tasty. Try “76. Spicy Seafood Udon (King Prawn & Salmon)” amazing soup with right amount of heat and spice. Great place a a lunch and excellent for take away dining! I highly recommend!

Cheap, fast and cheerful Japanese-ish food. Not authentically Japanese, but who cares? It tastes good. I've been there a few times and I've never been disappointed.

Delicious and top quality sushi (ate in and only had sushi when I went). Definitely get your bang for buck and you can tell it’s all fresh produce. Quick and friendly service.
