First class food, service etc, our second visit and definitely go again

Absolutely amazing haddock (personally i hate haddock) but when i went here last week it was the best fish ive ever ate! So fresh, so creamy and excellent batter!

Excellent food with first class , friendly service

The £9.50 measly mac and cheese bites gave a depressing end to an otherwise wonderful trip to scotland.

Veggie burger was a bit cold with a bun that tasted a bit old. Chips were good. Good selection of vegetarian choices and am always looking for places to eat going up and down the A9 so will try again but choose something else.

Fish and chips were really good pity the coffee wasn't.

Has inside seating, which was spacious, clean and tidy. Service was quick. Fish supper was pretty average and expensive.

I was here for lunch. The menu is quite value for money. Specially the add one which makes it a supper meal. The ambience is an eye for attraction as it has a glass roof which makes the shop an amazing dine-in venue. The food is delicious.

Clean and tidy establishment, friendly staff, food cooked fresh to order, loads of condiments - everything was great except the food. Fish and chips were floury and bland. Pity.

£14 for fish supper.....but fish was Fantastic.

You can't miss this shop when in Pitlochry, as it serves the best fish and chips.

Great chips and haggis. Chips were cooked and not oily at all. I'd recommend . Staying local and come across this place. Friendly and warm.

Weirdest chippy ever, took ages for the server to understand the very simple order of two haddock and chips, couldn’t order individual items. Couldn’t pay cash, was nearly a tenner more than I would normally pay for the same order. Overall felt like when you visit a ‘British chippy’ when abroad and the persons who own it have never actually been to a chippy. I think this place is designed as a tourist feature for American tourists rather than a standard chippy. Chips good, fish unremarkable, over priced, no battered mars bars feel shafted by the cost.

Just ate here...very dissappointing food, to be fair, fish foods were acceptable, the chips were the worst I have had in a long time, dreadful, my children even struggled with eating them, I will avoid in future, £35. 1 adult and 2 kids. Robbed!!!

The Cullen Skink is life changing. As a child of the tropics, I found the fish and chips bland. However, I generally find fish and chips in the UK bland/greasy.

Can't understand the hype about this place. Might not be able to see in the picture but the chips had lots of bad bits & were under-cooked, fish & sausage were way too greasy (swimming in oil), the latte was not latte; just bitter instant coffee. My mum and I were ill after eating here, even though we didn't eat a lot of it. Overpriced for what it is. Also, what's with the wooden cutlery? Splits easily and cuts your mouth if you're not careful. The people serving are also very rude. The men at the counter were having a conversation for 5 minutes before bothering to ask what we wanted. Furthermore, they gave us a random button, which we only found out later, means you have to go back to the counter and pick up your food when it beeps. However, the people working here don't bother to communicate, they just stare and point with their fingers. Would never bother again.

Fish was burnt and dripping in grease...marked my husband's trousers it was that bad! Chips were tasteless and we had to leave about more than half of them as they were black. Macaroni? That was a tub of goo! Sadly, won't be back ☹️

Sit in area is very cold, but the food is very good. Fish is very expensive.

Stopped by and disappointed that it isn't pet friendly when pub /hotel is. Place is empty midweek but decided to order and walk back to the car. Ordered steak pie supper and got back to car and it is a tub of steak filling with a light piece of flaky pastry beside the tub. Now maybe I'm missing something but try eating this with your 🤌, I'd suggest the staff would be aware this is almost impossible to eat without cutlery and why it isn't offered beggars belief.

Called in for a quick bite, a portion of chips. They were freshly cooked as was everything else I saw leaving the frying area that all looked very nice & well presented. Smart clean area to sit & eat or just takeaway. Chilled water 💧 available help yourself. In the warmer weather outdoor seating area is also available. Efficient friendly staff.

We were hiking and camping in the local area and were just passing through. We stopped quickly for something to eat and we were not disappointed. Upon going in to the Mckays chippy, I was a bit worried, its the fanciest chippy I've ever been in and I'd been rolling about muddy fields for days, but no one made us feel awkward. The menu was really good, offering all the standards you would see, but some more unique items like Cullen Skink and soft shell crab (which we now plan to come back to try). My partner ordered a fish supper with Tartar sauce and I got a Chip roll. We were given a pager to call us back when it was ready, which meant it was a being cooked to order. It only took 5 minutes and it was ready. Now, my partner is a chef and so he can be quite hard to impress, but he was happy to report this was by far the best fish supper he has had. The fish, was steamed perfectly and not soggy. The batter was crisp and delicious without being horribly greesy and the chips were amzing. Crisp on the outside, fluffy goodness on the inside. The tartar sauce, which I think was homemade, was also one of the best I've tried. The chip roll came with a lovely brioch bun and was a lovely sized order. This is by far the best chippy, best food, friendly staff and well worth a two hour car journey back to try the cullen skink.

Food was fresh and hot. Service was ok, not very welcoming. Atmosphere was bland, didn't feel like a valued customer. Expensive for what it was. Clean and hot food.

We love this shop because it's right on route when we're driving from Edinburgh to the Highlands and are still hungry at night and need it between our teeth. We love it.

Nice chippy. Food is very good. Decent portion sizes, and tasty. Very popular during the Enchanted Forest shows, so dining in can get busy, and tables are at a premium

Fast food, quality of food is average, nothing special.. Clean site with decent price if you want to fix your hunger in rush

Ordered online for collection which was a bit unorganised- menu was not in order and confusing to find what you wanted. Went to collect and still had to wait in normal queue to collect. No bags which was awkward trying to carrying six meals to car. Only a few minutes drive away but food was slightly warm and not hot. The steak pie ordered was a tub of fatty beef in runny gravy and half bit of puff pastry on the side (why half and not whole???) Order was missing two lollies, two fruit shoots and a tub of ice cream from the two kids meals we ordered. Emailed straight away and still waiting for a response. Staff not the friendliest and had much better food elsewhere. Fish had a funny after taste, chips overcooked and dry, steak very fatty and Mac and cheese just yuk!!! Definitely won’t try again.

Woman serving me was horrible. Waved us over with her hand like we were dogs. Asked for tomato sauce on my supper and she rolled her eyes and said that’s not included in the price. I asked the other worker who was bagging our order (who was lovely btw) if my 3 pickles were inside the box when the horrible worker ran over and stated I was lying and it was only 2 pickles. The other worker looked and the receipt and showed that it was actually 3. Woman just rolled her eyes and walked away. Not even an apology. I was nothing but pleasant as I work in a chippy myself and understand how stressful it can get but she only treated us like this which makes me think it may have been racially motivated. Gutted as I honestly love this place. Woman had a west African accent if management care to chase this up.

Great chippy , great size portions & value for money

Whenever we are in pitlochry we always make a point of visiting McKays for a sit in fish tea,it's the best.

My wife and I stopped here during our tour of the Scottish Highlands. We needed to get a quick bite to eat because we had some pretty mediocre, arguably terrible food earlier in the day while traveling. We decided to stop in here and get the fish and chips to share. Although the restaurant was fairly busy, the food was made fresh and ready in less than 10 minutes. Wasn't my favorite fish and chips we had during our time in the UK, but it was up there. Definitely a plus that they make their own tartar sauce.

Popped in again and loved the staff, very friendly genuine people, had the smoked sausage with chips you've redeemed yourselves Will be back thank you!!

Waste of money. Ordered online and collected at allocated time. Meals were cold and I've had much better fish and chips at lots of other shops. Would not return nor recommend.

Fantastic chippy with great service!

I have been here before and everything was good but this time it was a disaster from start to finish. I was not able to pay by cash due to COVID and when I pointed out that it is illegal to refuse the queen / kings currency in this country and also that they are alienating customers they were not bothered at all. While I was waiting for my buzzer to let me know to pick up my food I asked where the toilets were and was astonished to find out that I had to leave the premises and take my receipt with me to the hotel next door, show my receipt to them and then they would let me use their toilets!! WOW! Anyway, I was more than ready for my meal but when I got it it was cold, the chips were hard at the edges and barely look warm, the black pudding was cold on the outside but warm in the middle. Naughty naughty! The service was non-existant and the cutlery was wooden throw away items. Now, for a sit in chippy/restaurant this is appalling. I certainly will not be back near the place. I can see by one thing being not quite right but the whole thing being not right then I have to say this - AVOID THIS PLACE! I AM NOT LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER TO THIS AS I FOUND A LOVELY WEE CHIPPY ALONG THE ROAD THAT DOES FANTASTIC FOOD THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. "THE PLAICE", is a real treat and I would recommend this place to anyone who loves the chippy, unfortunately you are unable to sit in but it is well worth standing outside to eat.

The food was delicious - this was the first time I ate haggis in "sausage form" and deep fried, and the fries were also absolutely great there. Price was okay.

Got to the counter to see a sign stating Card Payments Only. No good if you only have cash.

Best fish and chips during our trip

Delicious food. Order at the counter, food is brought to the table. Was good, maybe a little greasy. To highlight: You can pour yourself water with lemon at no cost. I would come again.

First visit to this sit in fish and chippy Unfortunately this time, we were greeted by a miserable middle aged man who just growled, the menu's up there'. When we paid, no please or thank you, really surly attitude. The food was cooked perfectly, but we suggest going to the take out chippy, The Plaice to be. Really nice staff

Quick service, plenty of seating and delicious Fish and Chips. Albeit slightly pricey, one of the more affordable places in Pitlochry for food.

Good was excellent and the staff were genuinely nice and attentive.

Went in today at 12.20 for chips and curry sauce. You’d think at this time the chips would be fresh and hot, not today! Chips were just warm and I may be wrong but they seemed to be reheats.Disappointed as I’ve been here before and it was nice.

Best chip and fish I have ever had

The food is good but it's very pricey.

The store looked clean so I went in. I felt clean in the spacious white-toned interior. The fish and chips tasted good too. It was really crispy and the fish flesh was soft and not spicy. They also give you a lot of ketchup. However, it was a bit inconvenient that the plates and cutlery were disposable and that you had to go to the hotel in the next building to use the bathroom. Recommended if you are looking for a clean restaurant in Pitlochry.

We couldn't complain about the fish and chips, but the 2 fish and chips ( sitting in) and a Fanta were £28.40. Think that's a bit much.

Website says best chippie in the village, must be the only one in the village. Don't get me wrong, its not all bad, its just not my cupa tea. For me fish was a bit greasy, chips were a bit pale, some folks may like that. Place is nice and clean though and staff were friendly.

Prices are high compared to others in the town, however staff are friendly and the space is inviting.

Great layout and a fantastic light and airy seating area. Very easy to order at the desk with friendly staff and made quick. I would say it's good value for money. Would definitely go back if we are in the area.

1st experience for fish and chips. Very warm welcome, the manager was very welcoming, and even made the effort to say a few words to us in French. The dish was really excellent, the location was pleasant and clean. I had a nice time.

"It's ok" sums up this overpriced cash-grab chippy, located in the centre of Pitlochry. Hold on to your receipt as you'll need it to access the toilets which are next door!

We ordered basic haddock with chips and it was delicious. Pricy though. Wooden cutlery sucks. Service friendly.

Great fish and chips. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Went in to get some dinner with my wife and 3 year old son, while in the queue my son needed the toilet so my wife took him and left me in the queue. When she asked to use the facilities she was refused as she didn’t have a receipt, she explained that we were waiting to be served but this was not deemed acceptable. Terrible way to treat a child, left and went elsewhere

A great place to have fish & chips

I love a chippy... This was decent but... I ordered a large haddock supper which came with 3 pieces of fish, all good so far, but the portion of chips was pretty poor. I'd happily have swapped a piece of fish for double the chips. Also one of the fish was really greasy, although the others were great this one kinda spoiled it a bit... Would still go back tho

Great food ,children s meals but the adults food looked fantastic

The food was ok, but the attitude was terrible!! I came to buy two meals take away, one a kids meal. They made me pay for the drink in the kids menu, and only when another costumer with a kid told me that it’s included, I took another drink. They gave me two small sachets of ketchup for two meals, no paper bag to put the boxes in and I had to ask several times for napkins. Simply - bad service!! The fries - just a few good ones, the rest not edible.

Beautiful fish and chips, excellent portion.

Heavy on the potatoes if we are being honest. Odered the cullen skink(fish soup) it was tasty but had huge chunks of potatoe taking over most of the bowl as filler. Same thing with the smoked "fish" cakes that look and taste like fried mashed potatoes. All potato... where is the fish? Doesn't even smell like fish. Is there any fish in the fish cakes? Workers seem tired stressed and rushed.

You can find the best fish here, tasty and fresh. Very good and fresh food. The guys served very quickly and with great responsibility to ensure that the customer is satisfied. 10 plus for food and service, thank you very much, we will stop by again .

This chippy is nice setting you can sit inside or outside for no extra cost if you dont want to just takeaway...... fish was fresh and nothing we got was greasy at all, would definately go back if looking for fish n chips

We arrived at a time when there was a lot going on. However, we got to it quickly and the fish and chips were exactly as expected. Delicious, delicious, delicious 👍👍👍

One of the best fish and chips had in Scotland. And with Italian beer too! And a reasonable price!
