I recently visited this charming Chinese restaurant,and I have to say it was a fantastic experience!!The food was absolutely delicious.Every dish was bursting with authentic flavors and fresh ingredients. On the top of that the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive making us feel welcome and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal.Highly recommend for anyone craving quality Chinese cuisine ☺️

I recently visited this restaurant and felt compelled to share my experience. The service here is subpar and doesn’t merit the 12.5% service charge. I was seated near the back and struggled to get the attention of the waitstaff. When a waiter finally came over, I asked about the Satay Chicken starter, specifically how many skewers it included. He told me it came with six. When the order arrived, however, it was only four skewers. I brought this to another waiter’s attention, only to be told that the starter indeed comes with four skewers, not six. Another issue arose when I ordered Prawn Crackers, a staple for any Chinese meal. The crackers arrived slightly over-fried—not a problem for me—but the waiter failed to provide any sauces. We asked if sauces were meant to be included, and after a brief wait, they brought some to the table. This poor service isn’t acceptable for the service charge they demand. Based on these experiences, I find the 12.5% service charge excessive and unfairly imposed on customers. The restaurant’s atmosphere was nice, so credit where it’s due. As for the food, I ordered the Hot and Sour Soup, which had an off-putting texture—far too thick, more like gravy than soup, with hardly any flavour. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The stir-fry lamb was overly salty, but the egg-fried rice was impressive and well-executed. I should also mention that the chairs at the restaurant felt very light and flimsy. Throughout the evening, I couldn’t shake the feeling that they might tip over at any moment. In the end, I did pay the service charge. However, I have read reviews which have stated that the manager tends to argue when customers try to refuse this charge, so be aware of that if you visit. The price of the food is quite dear compared to other restaurants in the area and I am afraid to say that this price is most certainly not justified.

This used to be one of the best Chinese restaurants for many years. So it’s unfortunate that my review is quite the contrary. The service started well and we were greeted and seated quickly by the female owner. The restaurant was half full, which was never the case when we used to regularly visit before. We ordered satay chicken, which was nicely spiced, but the texture of the chicken was rather dry. Our favourite dishes were the salt and pepper squid which was crispy, flavoursome and nicely cooked. The sizzling king prawn was light and fresh. The other dishes we ordered were seabass with ginger/spring onion and creamy cabbage. The mushroom chicken and the crispy beef were terrible. The beef didn’t taste like beef and was literally batter coated in a chilli sauce and the chicken was the same low quality chicken as the starter. After dinner we requested a dessert menu, which never came and there was nobody around to remind them.. then when the staff finally appeared, we just asked for the bill and left. When we used to visit years ago, the staff were much more engaged and inviting. It’s a shame that they have lost that enthusiasm for their job now.

Went here for the first time as a family. The food was amazing, the service was excellent. The owner of the restaurant was very welcoming and polite. The staff here took great care of my mother who is disabled and made our experience very comfortable and pleasant. The interior of the restaurant is lovely and all the facilities very clean and up to date. Thoroughly enjoyed the set menus, i highly recommend this restaurant for great quality Chinese food. Very satisfied. Thank you very much to all the staff who made our visit here so special.

£7.9 for a 750ml bottle of sparkling water is crazy. These sort of things really put a sour taste in one’s mouth and make them not want to return.

We’ve been going to Maxim for over 30 years and the food is always fantastic. The service, atmosphere, cleanliness and menu are all great and the best thing of all is the wonderful smiling service we get from Jenny and Danny every time we visit - they take such great care of everyone, they are the absolute backbone of Maxim and as a family we will always travel from far and wide to visit them at Maxim - by far the best Chinese food in London!

Adapted the food we ordered for allergies but weren't great at knowing what we could and couldn't eat. We had to figure that out ourselves. Popped in here for a dinner after arriving in England. We bought three different dinners and everything tasted good. We had a small child with us who was allowed to sit in a high chair.

I visit Maxims regularly with work colleagues. The food is delicious, Danny is always great entertainment, and it is excellent value for money. We all look forward to our next visit.

It was my first time to eat at Meixin Restaurant, and I finally found a treasure restaurant. Personally, I think it beats many Chinese restaurants in central London and Chinatown. Especially in restaurants with a lot of traffic, it feels like many of the dishes are pre-made, but at Maxim's, everything is very fresh. It was so delicious that I forgot to take pictures of several dishes. I particularly recommend the pork ribs, lobster rice noodles, fried lamb with green onions (the best I have ever eaten - no smell and very tender), hibiscus shrimp balls (smooth and delicious), The taste of turbot is very distinctive. The restaurant environment is very good and the service staff are very friendly. Will come often in the future

First of all the ambience was great , it looks like absolutely a vintage Chinese restaurant , and the Food here was delicious , and the food serving is fast ,and the management here are amazing . Highly recommended for every one

A really lovely teen birthday celebration for our family of 5. Food didn’t disappoint, nor did candles or in the toffee apple/banana dessert when we flagged it was a birthday. A little quiet when we arrived at 6.15pm on a Friday but busy and bustling by 7pm.

Oh Maxims in Northfields Ave is Ealing’s best kept secret! It is excellent in every way, professional, helpful and lovely staff, excellent quality food, lovely surroundings, Most definitely the best Restaurent I have been in for a while. The restaurant is one of the best in the area. It's overall score would probably be but it has the potential to be 4.5 or 5 on our experience this week, it's probably an overall 3.5 . The service was friendly and accommodating. We arrived quite late on a Thursday and were able to be seated and served quite quickly We've been a couple of times and the meal was not quite as tasty as on previous occasions. The rice was slightly soggy and the portion sizes have shrunk. It's still possible to have a great meal here as the set menu we selected is varied but given the high prices we were disappointed with the 'shrink flation'.. Having said that we did take food home, I think more variety for seafood lovers with the set menus would make this an even more interesting place as being seafood lovers we found the set menus are limited. We swapped a duck dish dish for the salt and pepper squid which we adore and it's beautifully done here but whereas before we had a decent portion garlicky portion, this time it was reduced and a new spice seems to have been added. The Manager is very friendly and helpful changing orders to taste although the tendency to talk over the dinner table could be slightly disconcerting. The rest of the staff do not seem to have his interpersonal skills. We paid slightly more than expected - not sure if we were charged for changing meals in the set menu something we didn't think to ask. With consistency and slight refinement of the menu this would be in our top 10. At the prices they charge for a local restaurant one expects it to be top notch and perfect.

Just a terrible restaurant,chicken chow mein had 4 pieces of chicken with a mountain of bean sprouts,chicken satay was virtually raw,the female manager had no idea of customer service and was a typical rude chinese individual,they also forgot a dish we ordered for takeaway and still charged us....STAY AWAY

Not a very nice experience. The manager likes to yell alot. The food was mediocre for the price. Staff hoover too much making the dining experience awkward. We felt rushed, especially when presented with the bill. There are better restaurants in the area.

My partner and I hadn’t been here for a couple of years as we don’t live in the area but went here with my niece and her family who live nearby for her birthday earlier this month. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived, and the place was nicely decorated. More importantly the food was still as good and tasty as I remembered. We all had the mixed platter that had hot appetisers, crispy duck, chilli beef and sea bass etc. We also had various drinks here too. The waiters were helpful, efficient, and friendly. They also sang Happy Birthday to my niece and were very attentive to my little 3 year old nephew William too. We both thought that the meal and the atmosphere were great, and it is a shame that we don’t live nearby as we would certainly go to Maxims often.

Food was average, but the service was poor. That could be due to staffing issues....fine. However the Manager was very rude and non attentive. Never have I had someone throw a receipt at a paying customer. He literally starting shouting when I commented on the poor service. If youre unable to look after your customers due to staffing issues or whatever your excuse, you really shouldn't be trading. But to shout and get aggressive at customers is unacceptable. I would highly advice you stay away from this place primarily due to this man. The food is average at best and overpriced.

SAVE YOUR MONEY! I actually cannot believe what I just experienced. We had the manager shouting at us because we asked for service charge To be removed for the following reasons: 1-I am heavily pregnant and we were sat on a very small table when asked to be moved to bigger table manager said no but most than half the tables at the restaurant were EMPTY 2- drinks took longer than the food to come 3- waited 15mins for them to just bring us our bill. We actually got shouted at by the manager saying we ate at the restaurant and we HAD to pay service. HE WAS ACTUALLY SHOUTING AT US. He then proceeded To throw the receipt at us. I have never ever experienced this kind of abuse from any restaurant in my life. Disgusting excuse for a manager.

Excellent choice and very good service - authentic and tasty

Having not been to Maxim's for a while, and feeling it had lost its way a bit, I was pleasantly surprised to have a nice family meal here. The food and ambience were good, the service was efficient but a little perfunctory, and it is quite expensive, especially with the added service charge. Would go again for a special occasion.

Lots of pluses. Good hot plates, proper linen on tables. A nice mix of dishes but expect to pay more than the average. I'd give 5 stars but there are inconsistencies with the service and food which drag it down. I think the restaurant is spacious and well presented but some attention to cleanliness of chairs, seating arrangement would elevate the whole experience. They have so much space to be creative and add to the customer experience. Major pluses are the preparation of some dishes the salt and pepper squid is exquisite, as is the crab. The rice was very average and I think the range of seafood dishes is limited. I think for a fine dining experience it's not quite there. It's better than many but there's room for improvement. The service whilst polite was hesitant and disorganised. ——- Edited February 2024 Went for a birthday meal the restaurant has improved in so many areas. The food is head and shoulders above many of their competitors. The starters are exquisite especially the prawn taste and spare ribs. The fish was cooked to my husband’s specification, the fried rice was tasty full of flavour and assorted proteins, as for the squid in spicy salt and chilli next level cooking. Food is not cheap but when you have quality you tolerate even expect a slightly higher price tag. The chefs pay attention to detail as every dish was tasty and well prepared. Most of the service issues have resolved but it’s not perfect, e.g. not changing cutlery between courses is not very nice. One waiter took our dirty cutlery and left it on our table in between courses. I think this lowers standards and but as it was a special occasion we didn’t make a fuss. Overall service could be improved but the maitre d and other staff were polite and we will be back.

Takeaway. Ordered sweet and sour and it was horrible - chicken tasted like it had been reheated 3 times or left somewhere. Rice tasted odd. Will avoid in future

We had a lovely Sunday evening meal with friends at this restaurant. The service from beginning to end was great and the staff were warm and helpful. The food was delicious, highly recommend the butterfly king prawns, crispy chilli beef, lamb lettuce wrap and crispy duck pancakes. Definitely will be coming back.

This was the 2nd time we had come to this restaurant but will be the last. Starters were ok. Main course was extremely dry. We ordered chicken in black bean sauce and chilli chicken. There was hardly any sauce on it. When we showed the manager, he told us this is the way it is supposed to be served. We have been to many, many Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants but never experienced it cooked this way. It was dry and tasteless. They did bring a separate bowl of tasteless sauce though! We also like chilli oil, but they would only serve it in a tiny bowl with only a teaspoon of it in it…. We asked for a larger bowl as we had to continuously ask for more and then have to wait a while but they refused and told us this is how they served it!!!!! This ruined it for us. Considering the bill was £227 for a table of 4 and £25 was service charges, I think their service was appalling. We will definitely not be returning.

In a word... Awesome. The food, The service... The whole experience. One of the best Chinese restaurants I have been to, if not THE best. Nothing more to be said, this is definitely worth a visit

I treated my hubby to a meal here for his birthday. Some of the food here is better than average. I’d give an overall score of 4. 5 for dishes like the salt and pepper squid and the soft shell crab. Both were very well cooked. The chicken satay was ok but didn’t look particularly appetising. The main courses were also quite good but could be improved. The fried rice was mediocre and bland. The sizzling prawn dish was over prepared with the chilli dried out which caused the sauce to dry out and it made all surrounding tables cough. The chilli fish was nice but my hubby wouldn’t have chosen it had he been aware it was sweet chilli sauce. However it was beautifully cooked. The vegetables dishes were well prepared but slightly underseasoned. The let down is the service it feels very inexperienced and hesitant. The staff are polite but they didn’t have the confidence in communication to make us feel settled. We were told not to order further dishes after the starters, then whilst eating the mains another waiter came to ask if we wanted to order, bringing a dish he’d said we should order late. Whilst we ate they seemed to hover and as if they were impatient for us to get to the next course. It was hard to relax. The choice of drinks could be improved I ordered a lemonade I wasn’t asked if I wanted ice or lemon, it came with both and it was low cal which I didn’t want but I didn’t ask for a change but I should have. The dining area was a little chilly so we wanted go drinks to start. They only serve jasmine tea or coffee so hubby opted for the Chinese beer- which we said was nice. Other minus points. The upholstery on the Chairs could do with being changed or cleaned. The layout is not ideal for an intimate dinner for couples there is an upper floor where other diners seem to be sitting almost on top of us, we sat just under a couple and it was possible to hear all their conversations and it ruined the ambience a little. I think clever screening with nice plants could resolve this. Overall at over £60 per head excluding service charge we expected much more.

We have been coming to this restaurant as a family for 20 years and never been disappointed. It's really good food, super efficient service and we absolutely love celebrating birthdays here. The staff are wonderful.

Always a cut above the rest especially with regard to food quality and service. We eat there often and the standard of everything is consistently high.

Nice staff and prompt service. Reasonable prices. Spare ribs starter was good, lots of meat and tender. Orange beef was fried to the point of tastelessness though. Sea bass in black been sauce was good but small portion.

Visited this restaurant 7 tines over 3 years. The manager is without doubt the rudest human being we have ever encountered. This lvisit will be the last time. You literally sit down and the staff are all over you to order a drink. No drinks menu provided. Food menus just dumped over the lazy suzie. We must have asked 10 times for extra sauces and water Nothing forthcoming anytime soon. Barely finished starters and staff again are all over us requesting we order main courses immediately because the kitchen shuts at 10:00pm(Friday night). Service levels would make Fawlty Towers look Michelin. Food pumped with MSG. No desserts after 10:00pm. I can positively say this restaurant has the worst service and food quality levels we have ever experienced. Manager says hope to see you soon. We unanimously replied not even for free. We were probably the biggest spending table in the restaurant, six of us. Pure money laundering operation with no concern for food quality or service. So do yourself a huge favour. Steer clear. Many other options available which are far cheaper, superior service levels and much much better food. Staff live in fear of the most tyrannical human being we have ever encountered.i very much doubt they have repeat custom. Only in London can a place like this exist.

This place is high-quality, and the food and service are second to none. The staff are attentive and flawless, with an air of experience stretching back over 40 years. We highly recommend the sesame prawn toast as one of your starters. Also, whatever your taste, one of the sizzler dishes cannot be missed- we had the prawn sizzler and it was delicious. The portions are very good, and the noodles are particularly plentiful. I’d suggest combining the noodles with the stir fried vegetables as a side for two. I also had the chilli fish, which was extremely good. My husband had the oyster beef, and he enjoyed every mouthful. The decor, the ambience, the staff, the food and the service here make this classy and quality restaurant worth every penny. For the experience, this place is great value for money.

1.) Service by manager very brisk, others better. 2.) hot appetisers had raw onion as one of the options. First time ever served that as a hot starter, unexpected and unwanted. Where is the prawn toast? Assume cutbacks. 3.) braised chicken exceptionally bland. 4.) pak Choi and beef dish better. 5.) toffee apples cold, clearly pre-made way before. It used to be better here, i would not revisit as far too expensive for £70+

The staff are nice and the restaurant itself is clean, but the food was terrible, overpriced and I didn't enjoy a single dish we ordered. The prawn wonton were particularly awful, completely inedible.

I have been dining here for over 30 years, it has fallen into decline, the food is very average and stodgy, the service is poor and chaotic with wrong dishes arriving at the wrong time, the old characters have gone and have been replaced by masked minions, the prices have rocketed, it is shame to see what has happened, it used to be good. £180 plus service charge for a bottle of Chateau Batailley is daylight robbery, to be avoided.

Went to Maxims yesterday evening to celebrate a special occasion. We arrived to a chilled bottle of champagne which had been ordered as a surprise by a friend. We opted for a set menu. Every course was absolutely delicious and of superior quality compared to other Chinese restaurants. Danny was attentive and offered us a wonderful service at a great pace. We've been coming here for more than 15 years. Danny and his team always make sure we're taken care of. The food is delicious. Our family have come here for birthdays, graduations.... never disappointed. Much recommended.

We left this area over 23 years ago but have kept in contact with friends. Maxims was always our favourite restaurant and remained very special in our memory. We were so delighted to go back with our friends last night. It was just as we remembered it. Absolutely wonderful - another great evening in Maxims. Thank you for such wonderful food and being such great hosts. We will be back - promise.

I wish I had read Clair W's review (5/2/23) before ordering a takeaway! Our experience was exactly the same; I spent quite a lot of money on almost inedible food - tasteless, stodgy, greasy + cooked to death meat - we threw most of it away and still our stomachs feel rather queasy. Never again!

We had a disappointing evening at Maxim. We've been there before and liked it but this time it was less than average. We were sat at the back, and thankful, as it was quieter. We had the mixed platter starter for 2 which all tasted good but seemed to be half the size from when we had it before. One spring roll between us and one rib each - really? The prawn toasts had been chopped into small pieces. The service was cursory and so fast we had to ask for a pause between courses, it felt like they wanted us out of there asap, and kept topping up the wine very quickly, I hate that. The crispy duck wasn't great, it tasted like a frozen pack from a cheap supermarket, likewise the sea bass, that didn't taste very fresh either. I love chinese food and have eaten in many Chinatown restaurants, Maxim doesn't even come close, which is sad. Won't be back.

As always, the food at Maxims was first class. Sadly, the service for a table for two was a little less than we’d come to expect and the value has reduced - it’s always been a lurker expensive but seems to have gone a wee bit overboard with today’s base costs. That’ll not stop us from returning but perhaps not as often as we’d like.

We have been regular customers at Maxims for the past 50 years. We love it and even having moved further away we still try to eat there as often as we can.

Lovely restaurant and the food is delicious! Downside is that the restaurant never have any drivers to deliver and when ordering on Deliveroo or Uber eats green beans are priced at £10.90! Tasty but not tasty enough to warrant those prices unfortunately.

Our mum's favourite Chinese restaurant when she moved to Ealing several decades ago. 25 of us back there last night to celebrate her 80th birthday. Excellent food and excellent service. Thank you all the staff and especially Danny for making it such a memorable night for her.

Maintaining its high standards. Many restaurants are cutting quality. This one is keeping them up. Everything is served hot to the table. The duck is succulent and tasty. It’s clear everything is cooked fresh to order. The spicy chicken and roasted beef are top of their class. Definitely worth a detour

Fantastic restaurant, always a pleasure to eat here. Really good quality food, definitely a cut above your average Chinese restaurant in London. Welcoming with a delightful atmosphere, it’s traditional and homely, making for a really lovely night out. People complaining about the prices clearly don’t know what it costs to run a high quality restaurant with fresh ingredients and efficient service, it’s not cheap but it’s excellent value.
