Went in for a drink only to find it was more like a men's club. Very friendly chatted with a few men about football and they made us welcome.

I like the place. It's what I would call a proper pub. Got huckled by a radge old jakey called Alan the last time I was there, but the barmaids did a stunning job of showing him the door.

My dad brought me here in the late 80's, he drank here in the Sixties and we go every time we visit Edinburgh. Lovely pub for a pint of Bellhaven and quieter than other bars.

My first visit to Mather's 18th May. Will most certainly be making a return visit. Loved the old bar and mirrors, staff very friendly, and service was quick. Good selection of cask ales. I decided on the Mcewans 70 shilling keg. Great traditional bar.

Just a great wee old pub, go there about 30 times a year, and the staff are always on the ball, and right old school.

Long-established Scottish bar. Various beers and whiskey on offer. There is a TV in every corner to watch football.

Excellent wee bar in the West End. Staff always busy, but watchful for customers who have been waiting to be served. Good selection of customers, who don't mind having a chat.

Went for a drink there on Sunday with the wife what a great pub staff were brilliant young girl who Was really chatty. We are from South Wales up in Scotland on a Xmas break met some nice people from Newcastle had a laugh and a chat. The whole place was really friendly and felt comfortable being there. Will go there again when in Edinburgh in the summer.

My first to this very traditional pub. We were two men + one female who immediately noticed that she was the only non male there! Still...we found somewhere to fit, drink & have a good chat 😊

Old style pub, good selection of beers and whisky. Staff have a tendancy to serve the regulars first.

It's been pretty much the same for decades. Beer was good. All the old guys that used to frequent the place when I first went there 55 years ago have been replaced by people who look like me. Amazing.

Good old fashioned Public House with good reasonable prices. Especially having been ripped off from an establishment across the road. Will certainly be back.

Mathers has always been a good pub,went in last Sunday after remembrance it was surprisingly quiet but still decent ,a still a good pint of lager and reasonably priced

Hard to find a bar serving decent beer these days. Hadn't been in Mather's for a long time (20 years plus) but the beer was great and the atmosphere like a real pub, not a marketed spirits bar. Wonderful.

Probably the best bar in Edinburgh👍Been here for as long as I can remember and never fails to impress! Regular clientele, but always friendly to those who are not. Sport friendly but usually also has national news on. Lots of real ale on offer and one of few pubs that still have 70/- on tap. Bang centre of City- Top of Queensferry Street, yet cheapest bar prices I know👍What could be described (in old money) as a ' man's pub ' but women/ladies can come in free of any issues. Huge amount of 'character' on wall, includingehats on TV, cask ales on offer and 'Malt of the Moment' - definitely recommend 👌

Great pub for atmosphere. Waiting for a bus, so had time with spouse to enter and sample their beer 🍺. Hasn't changed much over the years which is great.

Cozy pub off Queensferry Street. We stopped in for gins before walking up to the castle. Toilets were clean.

Fantastic old pub with great ales

Great pub with friendly door staff fending off the thickos who couldn't spot a queue! Once inside the bar staff were very efficient and polite. Visiting on the day of a rugby International was perhaps not typical of the service, table-clearing etc but I couldn't fault the place, only a couple of random, idiotic customers. I'd go back, no problem.

More of a ' man's type pub ' Good selection of ales and whiskies. Tasty hot pies too.

A very traditional pub which is often used as a quick stop for people in transit as it's closely sited to many bus stops. The decor features lots of vintage mirrors and an ornate ceiling. Good selection of ales and spirits. Service is good and friendly.

I haven't been here for a few years and was pleased to see that it hasn't changed. A terrific choice of draught beers and a good assortment of whiskies.The young lady who served me was polite and efficient and very welcoming. The décor, as far I can see, doesn't seem to have changed since the bar was built just like the other top pubs in Edinburgh such as the Cafe Royal and the Abbotsford.

Horrible customer service. I went in the other night, ordered a first drink of the evening, was a little tired but not drunk or anything like that, got refused service for no explainable or apparent reason, I clearly wasn’t in any way drunk. Came back in to just talk to my friends, wasn’t intending on trying to order any more drinks. Was rudely told I needed to leave immediately, I wasn’t drunk, I didn’t do anything wrong, I wasn’t bothering anyone. The staff just wanted to have a go at me. Wont be coming back, very poor show.
