Masons Restaurant - Brentwood in Brentwood

The afternoon teas are always delicious here. I love that they always have something savoury and different to accompany the sandwiches and different sandwich fillings, not the traditional flavours you normally get. It keeps it interesting. The cakes are bite size, which is perfect and the scones delicious. The only thing I would say is maybe a few more tea selections, i.e., maybe Earl Grey and a rooibos tea. Anyway, it was a great afternoon.

We booked a table here for a get together with friends. We were seated at a lovely table, very close to the piano. Initially I had thought we may not be able to hear each other, but there was no problem. Menu looked nice, not huge, but plenty to choose from. We all had 3 courses and the food was really lovely. Good sized portions and so tasty. Service was excellent, will definitely be back. My only slight reservation is that it was very expensive, 6.95 for a very small dish of carrots seems excessive. Having said that, we had a great night.

Lovely welcome, good attentive staff, restaurant lovely after its refurbishment. . Enjoyed the atmosphere of this restaurant. The tapas was very enjoyable and made a refreshing change to a normal lunch menu. Only negative is I found the wine quite expensive.

My friend and I recently had lunch at Mason's as it used to be a favourite of ours. We were looking forward to it as we had heard of the recent refurbishment. We arrived and my friend had to get the table reset as her cutlery was covered in crumbs. We both found that the menu is just too big with too many options (for lunch) and I feel that this is why our experience felt so underwhelming. We ordered a sharing plate of cold meats to start which was just chucked on the plate with no love or attention. This was certainly not put together by a chef it actually looked pre-prepared. We ordered Slow cooked Beef cheek and Liver and bacon mains. My friend's beef cheek was dry and crispy and certainly not soft, tender and unctuous as described in the menu. My liver was fine, it was served on top of a potato galette that was soft not crispy and uncooked in the middle all the way through. We therefore felt the need to send back both plates of food. My friend's dish was replaced and she was satisfied. I swapped mine with some mash instead. It re-arrived instantly and quite frankly a little too quickly... I can only describe it as reheated congealed school mash. I rarely give reviews but i feel that when i am being charged London fine dining prices I naively bought into the allure of the new decor.... However it really should be about the quality of the food and ingredients, together with the wine and the ambience. The front of house staff were lovely.

Decided to try the Tapas lunchtime offering as we had been to Masons before and loved it. Not exactly as we expected. They were offering 3 plates for £21 with each extra plate at £8, I had the Croquets, Humous on Sourdough and the Tempura mushrooms (+ supplement) Each was very tasty. My wife had the Turkey and the Walnut salad plus chocolate brownie. All in all the food was very nice but just left me a little wanting as to being satisfied,but wasn't prepared to take another plate. Excellent staff,no waiting but with two non alcoholic drinks the bill came to £55 which to me was an expensive lunch. All the food was very tasty especially the prawns done in a batter Part of the reason for visiting was that my colleagues and I normally visit different places for a pub lunch. Cannot say that this fits the bill due to the eventual cost. However Mason's has an excellent reputation and nothing detracts from that

Fabulous food and service. We were surprised it wasn’t busier. Brilliant value for money. This is a hidden gem needs to be discovered.

Used to use Masons as a go-to restaurant with our friends as food and service was always excellent, and you came away feeling satisfied. However, post refurb - it's not the same. The enjoyment and ambience have gone! We arrived early as per normal and waited in the car park for our friends to arrive. The restaurant appeared dark and uninviting. Whilst waiting, we noticed a Vauxhall Astra estate drive into the car park and cut in front of a car leaving. This car parked in a customer space, and one male dressed in jeans got out. The car park was relatively empty at the time. When we went into the restaurant, we noticed the driver of the car was the pianist (not what we were used to as the previous was always dressed smartly in jacket, collar, and tie. The actual restaurant inside was darker than normal, and all the waiting staff appeared to be young and dressed in leggings! The food we had was very nice but portion size had been greatly reduced. My wife had a Trio of Monkfish, which consisted of 2 small pieces of monkfish, 2 king prawns, 2 scallops and 2 mussels, and a piped line of mashed potato. Not really a meal suitable in size for an adult or a child for that matter. Whereas before, we used to be offered a roll and butter, now we were offered a bread board which I presume would have been at a cost to us. We were seated on a round table in a corner, which had bench type seating. Not the easiest for us being in our early to mid 60's to get into and out of as well as making conversations difficult At times, it felt like we had to shout to be heard. This type of seating was more suited to younger customers who can manoeuvre a bit more easier. Also, per refurb, we were given vegetables to go with the meal. Now, we were expected to purchase a side dish of vegetables/chips at £7.00 each. The menu was smaller than previously without any 'specials'. Also whilst in the restaurant, the lights were dimmed for a period which made it difficult to see and then brightened. It felt, to me, that they were catering for a different clientele base than before and now not suitable for us. Our bill normally would have been around the £250 mark for 4 of us. We had nothing unusual or extra, and it cost £346.00. It felt to us that we were being charged extra to cover the cost of the refurbishment. To me, it felt like they were penny pinching but charging Michelin star prices but not giving Michelin star food or service. I did look around to see if there was a machine to pay for parking in their car park as well. Not an enjoyable experience tonight. Exorbitant prices and small portions. 10% service charge added onto bill as well. Just hope that goes to staff and is not retained by restaurant Will we be going back - no! Poor value for money Service not what it used to be due to young, inexperienced, and improperly dressed waiting staff. Previously, when we have been there, on a Saturday evening, parking was limited. Tonight the car park was empty.

The vegetarian soup (carrot & ginger) was pretty good, sourdough just OK. Halibut was a generous portion but over cooked. Decent wine. Service attentive throughout.

The new update and retest of the restaurant is fantastic food and drink always incredible and always good for nice relaxed lunch

My husband and I had lunch at the newly refurbished Masons the day after the new opening. The lunch was superb. We have, like so many others, been dining at Masons since it opened years ago and we have never ever been disappointed with any meal or service, and it didn't disappoint on our lunch visit. The chefs, food and service is first class as always. We feel the food, drink choices and service is well worth the what you pay. The small plates choice is great too. My husband had three plates from the list of choices from the small plates menu and loved them. I had the baked stuffed goats cheese from the main menu and it was delicious. Dessert as always was scrummy too. Well done on the refurbishment Masons. Adding some booths gives diners some privacy without blocking out the ambience and great vibe. We love the restaurant and refurbishment Masons and it’s great to have such a gem of a restaurant here in Brentwood. We will always sing your praises.

Visited Masons for my birthday meal with 5 others. All of us loved the food, excellent quality & fantastic taste. Perfectly cooked meat. Attentive service & beautifully renovated restaurant. Highly recommend.

Lovely lunch at the refurbished Masons. Loved the new small plate lunch menu which was to the usual high standard of food here. Cheese board was amazing. The refurbishment is great - new colour scheme, decor, bigger bar area, living outdoor walk and new crockery and glassware has given a long time favourite of ours a new, fresh look! Round of applause to the team !

It's so good to be back. The new improved Mason's looks great. I'm so glad it's still got that cosy feel to it, and we still have our favourite table. Cherry on the cake. As always, the staff are great, friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food is delicious as always. Loved the unusual combo of scallops rhubarb and ginger bread, and the slowed cooked short rib is one of my favourite things. Done to perfection. My only criticism is that there were no peas on the extra sides list. Also, I used to love the bowl of mixed vegetables that accompanied the food. Would love this to be added to th extra sides list, too. Sometimes, you just want veggies with your dinner. Can't wait for our next meal.

All the 5* reviews are spot on. Fantastic food incredible service and unbelievable value for money. Atmosphere was chilled and friendly , lots of families . Amber our server was so good. Can’t praise this place enough .

First time and chose this restaurant after a recommendation by a friend backed up by Tripadvisor. Our booking was for 2:30pm and I was stunned at how full the car park was, in fact only one space left but some inconsiderate customer had parked with his car overhanging another space making it unusable so I had to park n the staff car park meaning I was blocked in when I left! I did check it was ok to park there.

Vous n'oublierez pas le bel accueil qui vous est réservé dans ce cadre typiquement anglais. La cuisine est belle, bonne et raffinée. Le personnel est aux petits soins. Que demander de plus. Ceux qui critiquent la cuisine anglaise devraient y aller faire un tour. Pour notre cas, nous reviendrons c'est certain.

Came here for lunch with a party of around 30 and despite the usual reservations about how promptly we'd be served, what the quality of food would be like, and so on and so forth, the meal exceeded expectations.The staff wear discreet headsets to talk with one another, meaning you never hear yells from the kitchen or raised voices anywhere, and you only really notice them when the food appears.The plates slip in and out with military like precision and everyone we spoke with was friendly and polite. Food itself was great. Good temperature on a plate that wasn't overcrowded with ingredients or haute pretensions. Portions were spot on.It was only when submitting this review that I realised I wasn't alone in my praise: it's one of the top five restaurants in the area. Just one complaint. No soap in the disabled loo. But that's all.

Trotz aller Klischees es gibt auch sehr gute Restaurant in England .Das Mason ist auf jedenfall eines davon.Sehr gute Auswahl an Vorspeisen,Hauptspeisen und Desserts. Modern angrichtet mit liebe zum Detail. Das Essen war ein Erlebnis. Freundlicher Service und schön eingerichtetes Restaurant.

Un lugar muy agradable, la comida deliciosa y el ambiente tranquilo, el postre muy rico y la atención muy buena, sin duda una buena opción para cenar!

Only gave 1 star because i had to, the amount of sandwiches between 5 of us was appalling, had to ask the waitress for some more which we then had to wait 15 minutes.Cakes were of poor quality and not enough to go round, the worse was yet to come when the waitress dropped cutlery on the wooden floor only to pick it up and wrap in linen to be used, this happened not once but twice! think a lesson in hygiene is in order.Would never come here again will stick to Marygreen Manor Brentwood.

I came to Masons for a friends hen party.Had a lovely welcome and sat in the bar area for some lovely cocktails before sitting at our table.I had the mushroom risotto for main which was absolutely delicious and for desert had the chocolate mousse which again was delicious. Service was brilliant and attentive. Everyone had a great evening and will definitely be returning to Masons.

we have eaten here several times, usually mid week, and find the set menu great value. Food well cooked, decent selection of meals on the fixed price menu and everything we have tried we have really enjoyed.

This was our first visit to this restaurant.It was was to celebrate my wife's birthday so I had to get it right. Well I certainly did, Jay and his team earned me enough brownie points to last the whole year. If you're looking for fine dinning in sophisticated sourounding then the Masons restaurant is certainly for you. The food was absolutely first class as was the service. This restaurant is certainly on my return to list.

We had a table booked for 8:30 for four and enjoyed a warm welcome. We were seated promptly and browsed the menu. A great selection is offered and we were very happy with our choices. Staff were attentive, the atmosphere was relaxing and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

A very unassuming building from the outside but inside it is absolutely lovely. Very nicely decorated, lovely conservatory and very comfortable. The food is delicious and each dish arrived lovely and hot. The staff are very pleasant and courteous. We will definitely make this one of our regular places to have a meal or afternoon tea, love it.we will be back !

Had a lovely meal here with a few friends couldn't fault a thing throughout the evening. Service was brilliant with very friendly staff and the food was delicious! I had the pigeon for main and it was cooked to perfection! I recommend highly as it is excellent value for money. Will defiantly be returning.

Could not of fault my meal here at Masons, came here with my boyfriend for my birthday and was greeted and served by lovely and kind staff especially a young boy (with nice hair) ;). Main course we both had the steak which was cooked perfect and its texture was like it melted in your mouth, dessert was my favourite and would recommend any chocolate cake lover to have it here at Masons ah it was amazing! Atmosphere was good and piano music was good/relaxing. It was our first time at the restaurant and we will definitely be returning soon! Thankyou
