Marks & Spencer Cafe in St. Helens

This cafe has got some many tables crammed together. No space at all. Maybe fewer tables would make it more efficient. Ordered tea and toastie. Told 10 minute wait for food. 25 minutes after ordering the food came out tea was cold by this time. Certainly not a relaxing or enjoyable experience and won't go back

It’s a shame that in a service industry (the cafe) that M&S have chosen to take the opposite view to others and degraded their offering. There was a time (not long ago) where you were served your coffee in a cup with a saucer and provided with a little biscuit - not any more, the biscuit went, followed by the cup and saucer, to be replaced with a mug. This weekend as was in a little independent cafe in Crosby, I had my coffee order taken from me whilst I was sat at a table, it was delivered to me, in a cup and saucer, with a little Lotus Biscoff biscuit on the side - and all for a price lower than I paid at M&S. M&S - wake up and smell your own coffee, your offering is now poor and time for a change of direction.

Always very slow service and once my order never made the kitchen! Only good for what's ready and drinks unfortunately.

Still a nice café to visit, light and bright, big windows, however a little less organised than it used to be. Tables remain uncleared for lengthy periods of time, and the place now has an air of chaos about it that never used to be there. Prices have sky-rocketed, as have prices everywhere, but some of the items on the menu are astronomical. £8 for eggs benedict during a cost of living crisis, seriously? You can get two cooked breakfasts for that in some supermarket cafés. And there's also a lady who works there approx in her 30s, I think I've heard her being called 'Anne' but not sure, tied back dark hair, who if you order a filter coffee from her always tells you 'We've got no filter coffee, it's being delivered tomorrow but you can have an americano.' I've been told this 3 or 4 times by her, yet when I'm served by someone else they always say 'Ok, but it'll take 5 minutes, is that ok?' I don't mind the wait, but I think that's what it really comes down to, she can't be bothered putting a fresh filter and coffee into the machine. It's much quicker and easier to press a button on the drinks dispenser for an americano. And an americano is more expensive than a filter coffee, so you have to spend more money than you really wanted to. But putting her slight laziness aside, she's otherwise pleasant, as are all the staff here.

Not the place for a quick lunch ! Not busy but the small queue moved at a snail’s pace; then once ordered had to wait too long again . Everyone was busy and pleasant so assume the the system is inefficient. Food good once it eventually arrived

Very nice cafe, pleasant, light & airy, always clean. Staff excellent, very friendly & helpful, a special mention to Abby who brought me my filter coffee with a smile! If you've been shopping on the retail park, pop in to this place for a well-deserved break. Lovely relaxing atmosphere, highly recommended!
