Decided to try again as last time the fish was hard and crispy and I must say this time was worse than before. White raw chips, fish tasted like it had been warmed up from earlier and the curry sauce was that thick, he had to scrape it out. Won't be going there again.

Worst meal never had a bad one from there, no idea what is happening tonight. Overpriced rock hard chips fish bone dry and fishcake went in the bin it was grey yellow inside and the gravy was like solid slop, had to water it down wouldn't even come out the pot!

Excellent quality food served hot, what more could be expected. Fish if freshly cooked to order as you walk in, plenty of choices in other items too.

Ordered fishcakes chips and battered sausages for the kids as my usual chippy was shut,and wow the small battered sausages £1.80 each for a small sausage and when I checked they were the standard value sausages.the battered fishcakes were greasy as,as were the chips.the curry was £1.20 for a small pot but that was actually quite nice chips left a film of grease in my mouth all-day but wow never again first and last time I'll order from here terrible greasy cheap and nasty for an expensive price

Well Dissapointed, Previously I'd Ordered Large Fish And Chips And They'd Given Me A Small... So decided to opt for medium and wow the pictures explains everything if that's a medium I wonder What There Large Looks Like !??? Shocking

Just been sold the smallest bit of fish supposed to be large got charged for large But given what could only of been a Gold fish before being battered and fried! Whilest waiting for this disappointing meal, another customer came in finding a hair in their chips, no women preparing food was wearing hair nets Very poor

Used marklews as the one i usually use was closed and like the last time i tried there it was massively disappointing. The youth behind the counter seemed miserable. The food itself was ok but nothing special but the price itself was ridiculous. Medium fish chips and peas was £16.20 then they had the nerve to charge 10p for a carried bag! I can get the same sized fish and chips and also drinks for the same price at our local chip shop. They charge a premium price for what is very average food. They are living on their past reputation and it will be a long time before i use them again

This place has been worse and worse everytime I've tried giving chances but chips are always overdone rock hard and still somehow just warm fish tastes like its been defrosted fishcakes soggy and greasy and the prices now are just silly I can get a full fish chips and mushy peas fresh for less money in a pub now such a shame maybe start opening during the school run where all the missed business is so the prices can come back down staff however are always friendly and welcoming

Never in my life would I ever order from here again gross food got my order wrong twice made me wait an hour while serving everyone eles the same dish your gross

Good quality chippy always consistent, just think the prices are always abit over the top for a chippy.. about £3.60 for a large chips. Don't do jumbo sosauges anymore but charge the same price for a small one, just always leave feeling like paid well over the odds, it's hardly on the sea front or a prime location where the price probably reflects the rental prices.

How this business has declined, fish and chips £8.20 all I can say is the quality was abysmal The Chips where overdone very brown or almost black and the fish was opaque and was old probably frozen Ocean fish bar in st peters avenue is vastly better so I recommend you go there and don't waste your money at this place 🤮🤮🤮

Chips like scraps, peas hard, sausage very small, did not think £5 for the food was worth it.

Went in for Lunch and was welcomed by friendly staff.. Wait time was not long at all and I was in and out in under 5 minutes. The chips were great and tasted amazing this is the same with the curry sauce and battered Sausage. Prices are also very reasonable, will be back again!

Fish - haddock- as it should be...white, sweet and just melt in the mouth. Freshly cooked and perfect

Y'all need some customer service training and some better organisation. Popped in on a whim, not been for a fair few years and it used to always be good. Ordered 2 peices of fish, 2 regular chips 1 fish cake and one small sausage, 20quid.. I think I must have repeated my order at least 5 times to the lass on the till, and was still repeating the order while she was bagging it all up. Fish was hot, chips were cold. Batters nice but it's not great when it's only your batter that's the best thing. If y'all were new I'd understand but can tell that's just how it runs in there nowadays, used to be one of the best a good 10 years ago, deffo need some changes and tlc if it's gonna make gains like it used too in my opinion. Just thought it's pretty sad really. One of the first review I've posted on here too, mainly because I felt it needed pointing out

Ordered large fish and chips , it was ordinary at best and if that was large they have re defined the word, service was also very slow

I usualy use this chippy weekly but lately it's awful, just been for a simple meal expecting the usual chip shop thick gravy waited around 20 mins for the lady to serve 2 people ahead, and when I finally got mine and got home (I live on the same street) its cold and gray was basically water I won't use this place again especially for the ugh prices they charge for not high standard of food

I had a large fish yesterday 2nd June £5.40 it was the smallest I have ever seen wot a rip off I will never go back

The fish was not just overcooked it was incinerated. Fish was hard and dry and the batter was like concrete. I use this chip shop twice a week but after a few recent letdowns I will be looking elsewhere in future.

bought fish and chips from here on 8/3/2022. its the worst peice of fish i have ever had. i wondered if it was cooked the night before and just warmed up as i was probably first in the shop on that day. I do enjoy my fish and i will never go back again

On local reccommendation, eaten Marklews takeaway three times now. Most enjoyable and delicious was to eat it by the esplanade as it's not far to go and very freshly cooked and especially crispy.

Just had fish and chips the fish was greasy there was more batter on the fish than fish. If anything the chip was dreadful there was that much grease formed on the bottom of my false teeth the Fat tasted deity !! Its was very greasy.. not very tasty the only good thing about it the Vinegar taste nice !! . The fish was overcooked it was dry .. it wasn't very white it was more brown 😕 colour.... if the people think this fish and chip shop is Good obviously some people don't know good fish and chips from bad ones...

Just went 2 hours before closing got chips and 2 bread buns was only fit for the bin! Cold and dried out, Very disappointed won't be going again

I visited Marklews yesterday just to get a chip butty, never again they charged me £3.80 for a CHIP BUTTY, at my local chip shop (Pips) I can get fish and chips for £3.85, and it's a lot better, what a rip-off.

As a regular to Marklews i would normally rate it very high however recently it has been hit and miss, tonights was not very nice at all, the fish was dry and the batter thick, dark and greasy, it seemed as though it has been refried or stood a long time.. very dissapointed.

Very generous portions, very fresh. Staff are very friendly. Get food from here often.

Wednesday night .worse fish I have ever not eaten. Strong smelling dry very small over cooked would have return ed but live out of town .phoned to complain not interested at all totall waste of over £30 would never buy from again

Awful!! Overcooked fish thick batter!!

3/10. Service was awful as when I entered the door I was not only immediately hit in the face by the awful smell, but with a fish cake to the face as one of the members of staff (I won’t name names) threw one at me which left me in the burn unit for several hours!!! Chips were also fine but a tad too greasy xxx

Very disappointed, I know when you go places like papas and southsea lane, you are treated to the best but I feel very let down, hard peas, hard chips and greasy, I will pay another visit soon I'm sure it was just a bad lunch time, 2 because of the good service.

Waiting for over ten minutes to get served, and then the guy at the till starts serving people that came after me, rude. Won't returning and will be sharing my experience with friends and family.

The worst fish and chips I have ever had locally. The fish had more batter than fish. Soggy and wet. Well if you can call them chips they were very scrappy no whole chip, and .l.little bits of potatoes with lots of bad bits on. The so called mushy peas, discusting, no taste just a lump of green pea. Will never be going there again. The little girl behind the counter had no friendly manners. No please or thank you. Disgraceful No thank you marklews 1 out of 10 he has

Medium fish seems smaller than our previous regular chip shops "small" fish, chips "just warm", far more expensive and quality not as good in our opinion. Still looking for a regular chippie!.

Not impressed if I'm honest for the price. Chips were under cooked and like warm. The fish itself was nice but the batter had to be taken off because it was soggy and under cooked.... Never been here before and won't return in a hurry....

First time of trying Marklews tonight and we weren't disappointed. Both had haddock and chips and it was delicious. Piping hot and generous portions.
