Everything was lovely - staff, food, cleanliness and facilities. It was rather busy when we were there with only 3 members of staff, therefore there could have been at least one more to help with the speed of service, mainly at the bar. Having said that we didn't have to wait too long for our food. Will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family.

Overall a lovely meal. The food was very tasty and arrived in good time. The staff were fabulous and the atmosphere was great. Our only issue was with the portion sizes of one of the meals. There were literally 16 chips on the plate and there was simply not enough BBQ sauce.

Queue took too long to order drinks or food. Aside from this the staff were friendly, the food was lovely and the venue was accommodating to our large booking.

Where do i start, Tia was awesome, she was funny, happy lady, great conversation and professional all in one. The food was amazing, we were a party of 5 and had different meals. Nothing was too much. We had desserts which were stunning too. Deco was great and the pub was clean and tidy. Varitt of meals on the menu to choose from. I would definitely recommend to everyone.

Took some family members out for Lunch to celebrate my dad's birthday. The food was good as always. Service was great. We wanted to put some balloons and birthday banners up and the staff were really helpful and nice. Brought the cake out with enthusiasm. It really helped to make my dad's birthday lunch special. Margam Deer is a lovely little spot for any occasion.

The food was of a very good standard, drinks and food excellently priced. The staff were a credit to the company. They managed to be both very efficient and yet extremely friendly and sociable. Top marks all around.

It was awful. Ordered via the table QR code, drinks didn't arrive so after 20 minutes we asked and were told the QR system didn't work on drinks. We then waited 1 hour for our food to come out. Asked several times where it was and were told there was only 1 chef on. No communication about these issues when we arrived. When the food did arrive, it was dry, shriveled, wrong and items were missing off the plate. Appalling service.

Staff are so lovely however disappointed with the food. Mashed potato was lumpy and quite dry and not good for a disabled person with swallowing difficulties ordered this as mash is usually smooth and a lovely consistency. The small pot of gravy really is not sufficient that goes with the sausage and mash. I also ordered scampi this was nice however the amount of chips was a child’s portion and literally a dessert size spoonful of peas, for £11.50 this was very poor. We come to you at least twice a month so this was very disappointing I don’t expect to still feel hungry after eating.

Food not cooked/poor quality. Slow service.

Ordered 2 steaks, both of which were mainly fat and grissle, I understand that is not the pubs fault what the cuts are like, but saying that meat quality does go a long way! majority of both steaks were left, garlic bread was terribly dry and tasteless. Waited 15 mins to be served at the bar which was not the barmaids fault as it seemed she was the only one serving, as well as one waitress serving! Staff were lovely but clearly more staff was needed at front of house. Good parking and a good family atmosphere! Has the potential to be a really good pub with a few improvements.

The food was OK, but the carvery wasn't available. It was short-staffed but the team there did a valiant job.

Way to expensive for what it is. £14 a carvery and nearly £6 a pint of lager. That in my eyes is borderline robbery.

Visited Sunday 16.02.25, enjoyed a lovely carvery lunch with Gluten Free pigs in blankets and Gluten Free Gravy 😋 my wife had Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas, one of her favourites 😋 staff were busy, but so friendly and helpful dealing with our requests.👍

Service both behind the bar and for food, was very quick and pleasant. Unfortunately, I didn't get the name of the girl behind the bar, but she was very nice and served us very promptly. We had the shock of our lives, when we saw our server, who was an old friend from another restaurant, Louise, who always gives a professional, kind service, always ready for a catch up, after knowing her for several years, it was so nice to see her after so long. Food was served very swiftly, unfortunately, my wife's soup starter arrived quite cold, however, we didn't complain, because she said it was still quite nice, and she just treated it as a 'gazpacho' cold soup for those not in the know, it still tasted delicious, so no complaint went in. For main, she had the Steak Americano, she loved it, but said that she would have liked a bit more cheese on it, as this was almost nonexistent on her sirloin steak, but other than that, it was delicious and very well cooked, so compliments to the chef. I had a cooked dinner, which was lovely, I always put way too much on my plate (I love my roasts lol) so couldn't quite finish it, but what I did have was absolutely stunning, again compliments to the chef. Then on to dessert, we both had the sticky toffee pudding, one with custard, one with ice cream. Both were lovely, but my wife found her cake very dry, as there was not much custard to put with it, she loves her custard, and prefers a larger amount, I don't know if this is something that can be implemented with the dish in the future, as she prefers a full bowl of custard rather than just over her cake, it's just a personal preference, not a complaint. I loved mine, then again, I'm a food monster you could say, love my food, so very rarely waste it lol, so no complaints here. Overall we had a lovely experience, and will definitely be back in the near future.

Went for cavery nearly all veg was luke warm and gravy was like dishwater meat was very dry and only one slice of each ..would go again if you payed me. staff seemed disinterested unless they knew you then you got extra everything

Visited on 30/01/25 Quite a few waiting to eat carvery not set for the numbers who wanted to eat I was fourth in the queue and had to ask for roast potatoes. Meat was the tail end of the day before. Veg selection was poor peas carrots cabbage leeks in a cream sauce and cauliflower cheese mash potatoes. Had my meal the went to get gravy this was so thin you could see through it. Only one gravy on offer. The whole meal was not worth the price I didn’t get 6oz of meat ver very poor last time I will eat here Also no body asked if the meal was alright. The pub chain need to look at a vast improvement.

Took a friend as a last meal in UK before flying home to the abroad. Went for the carvery which was so dry, all veg and meat looked like it had been sitting under the heated lights for hours. Change to order from the menu, and to be fair I was not charged the extra £5, but even the items on the menu did not satisfy. There also seemed to be a group of regulars making lots of noise and swearing constantly. I won't be returning

Very friendly and helpful service from Louise and all staff. Food was lovely and fast service. Clean and felt very safe with restrictions and precautions in place.

Large group of us attended for a celebration and ordered a variety of different meals and not a single person could Finnish/enjoyed any of the meals absolute crap even found a hair in some of the food I know it’s always been hit and miss with this place however has massively gone downhill absolutely disgusting NEVER AGAIN!

Christmas dinner- received our starter which was soup without a spoon, asked the waiter for a spoon to then have to wait 15 mins and be left with freezing cold soup. The starter was then given back, the main meal itself was very nice but due to staff issues we did not receive our dessert. £270 on basically 2 adult carvery’s and 3 children’s.

9 of us went there today for food and hot drinks. To be told they have no sugar. And no sweeteners. Then our food had 9 chips on one plate 10 on another chicken breast looked pale. Children fish fingers had no fish in they was burnt waitress went got 2 more that was not worth eating either. I had a carvery meal where I asked is it right to only get 9 chips as a portion. The reply I got was the chef is leaving so yeah that's what you got. And then told there delivery is dew. My meat was dry that dry that inwould not feed to my dog. The gravy was thicker than my tea. Only thing that was worth it was mash potato. This should be booming To be told they got no sugar when they les than a 100 meters away from Iceland and a morrison super store. Booked for a table of 11. Could only see 2 staff in the pub and 1 in the kitchen. Ridiculously understaffed for a Friday night. The staff member behind the bar said there would be a long wait for food due to the 30% off mains offer. This was a Marstons offer so why hadn't provision been made to increase staff to meet the expected demand? Waited over an hour for food which was very underwhelming and average. Burnt burger and bun, overdone lasagne, dried rice with the Thai curry. 11 of us eating and one member of staff coming back and forth to serve the meals which took an age.

Lovely staff nice and quiet for a Saturday my partner's food was lovely unfortunately mine was quite bland and minimal taste and could of been bigger portion size for the price.. but would return just not to have the same meal.

Niamh, Vickie and Shaun (chef) were amazing. We were a group of 6 with multiple dietary issues and allergies and the staff were happy to cater for us and go above and beyond to make sure we felt safe and had delicious meals - thank you!

Staff were amazing, the first person we saw, showed us to a table cleared it removed a chair for my hubby as he’s in a wheelchair. Got us drinks fetched carvery tickets for us, and did a tab, I can’t remember the staff members name although all the staff were amazing, food was very good too. Love that it’s dog friendly I will definitely take my dog next time.

Inexcusable service! We booked a table online and arrived 10 mins early, but the car park was pretty empty given it being a Tuesday. We stood at the bar while 2 members of staff laid up a table, after looking at us 3 times, one of them walked towards the bar, but then stopped to collect cutlery and returned to said table. Eventually the 2nd member of staff came to the bar, asking how she can help. We explained we had a table booked and she threw her head back and said well as you can see I'm run off my feet so you can sit anywhere. As we started to order drinks before taking a table, the man running the carvery came to tell her he had switched it off. You'd swear he had turned all electrics off. She stopped our drinks pouring to check she had no 'to good to go' orders. Then when she couldn't get the laptop to work, moved on to her phone. At this point I said leave the drinks, we'll find somewhere else to eat and she just looked at us with a blank expression and no response. Needless to say, as we were leaving we felt it only right to tell the customer entering not to bother either. Had this been a night where the bar was busy I would completely understand, but the lack of even basic customer service let alone that little extra you give during quiet times was quiet shocking!

Lovely pub, was a great find while in the area. Beautiful food, lovely staff. Good variety menu and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend...especially the carvery! 😍👌

Loved the food, it was relatively quiet. The staff were able to accommodate the change in party size and the fact I’d forgotten to book the dog in. Very accommodating to dogs big and small. Bar service was good. The price was reasonable. Enjoyed the all round experience.

The staff were nice, but the carvery was tired. There was only gammon and beef, the veg had been under the lamps for sometime and they looked a bit worse for wear. I had to wait for yorkshires, there was very little cauliflower cheese left and I had to ask for more mint sauce as the bowl was empty. The meal tasted nice but I'm not sure I'd rush back.

Mushroom pie crust was rock hard mash was like packet mash wasn't best pie we had there when it come to our deserts they iced our with someone else's forgot my crumble did bring it without custard apple crumble wasn't as there wasn't any apples in there crumble didn't taste like crumble then they forgot the children's Sunday and strawberry ice-cream we ordered was vanilla children main meal.was Luke warm

No clear direction on ordering procedure. Only 1 staff member working bar - others were chatting behind the scenes - could here them. Ordered a carvery using the app. Went to carvery and waited to be served, could see staff in kitchen but no one on meats - had to take plate over to bar, ask lone staff member to call kitchen staff - poor girl. Food in carvery section drying out. A slither of dried out beef, un-carvable and left out. Nothing had been refreshed and the carvery looked very sad, indeed. Meanwhile staff continued to chat in kitchen. Poor girl on bar had to call. Eventually a staff member came out. I had turkey which seemed the only edible option. Gravy and condiments placed away from serving area on separate area - not great. I wanted condiments but couldn’t serve myself as there were no spoons in the serving area nor staff to ask. The carvery server quickly returned to chat in the kitchen. Felt a bit of a lemon with a plate whilst my food went cold. I thought a tumble weed might roll on through. Returned to table, and of course, cutlery hadn’t been replenished, so got up and took from another table. When drinks arrived, they’d got the order wrong and had to return. Quite a problem with staff and staff training at this place. No wonder was empty. Won’t return.

I have been going to the margam Deer ,a gd few times , I have seen staff coming and going, , and they ones I got to know have left, shame they were very help full and friendly,, now, I called in on the 30.10.24 .and the staff are very help full one member NIAMH, was very help full , and the food was very good I recommend any one to give it a try , and judge it for your selfs , thank NIAMH for your help today ,

Waited over 45 minutes for our carvery meals, one was vegetarian, spinach tart chosen. Veg wasn’t the best or even close.

Absolutely awful no salad ,tills not working , carvery disgusting very little in turines, all dried what was there roast potatoes were like fried squares Tina tried her best felt sorry for her

Just had a regular carvery which costs £2 more on a Sunday for some reason? Food was OK but they are unbelievably miserly with the meats. I asked for a slice of each and they served me half a slice of each. This is by far the worst carvery I have ever been to for serving portions of meat. Won't be coming here again as there are far better carveries about!

Firstly we waited 10 minutes to be served at the carvery. We then found a hair in the red cabbage and the choice of food was really poor, also the food was extremely cold. We then had to wait for the condiments to be refilled. No one came to ask if our food was ok. This was our first visit here and was absolutely awful

Been coming here for years for the small carvery. There must be budget cuts in place today - one slice of ham was split between 4 people (my quarter was mostly the fat), the beef and turkey was one mouthful each, not even a slice just crumbly bits. It's the first time ever I've left still hungry. And first time the Margam Deer has disappointed.

Sadly the meals have gone downhill We ordered fish and chips and the cheese burger and fries. The fish was so burnt and lack of batter on the fish plus the bun on the burger was so so stale and burger like rubber that we told the girl who placed our meals on the table that we could not eat our food How they could be brought out of the kitchen like that was beyond belief We asked for a full refund of £32 for the meals and drinks the member of staff attitude was she couldn't be bothered with our complaint no one from the kitchen was called out about the meals Sadly after going to the pub for many years it has gone downhill so bad that we would not recommend the food or return to what a good place to eat in the past..

The cavery food looked lovely and the vegetables were tasty, but the turkey was dry and the food was luke warm which needed to be piping hot and served on hot plates. I was very disappointed. Response was defensive when informed by genuine complaint. Was not confident that feedback would be taken seriously. Will not return, which is such a shame.

Is a really nice place, comfortable and spacious. There's a really nice beer garden outside, too. The TVs on the wall that draw your attention are always on the News channel, promoting doom and gloom could be better placed by programmes such as find it, fix it, flog it, hones under the hammer and bargain hunt.

Took my mother to sunday lunch here and was dissapointed with very poor quality food at the carvery. This was my second time here with same results so i doubt i'll ever return.

This venue has such a lovely atmosphere and everyone was super friendly and helpful. While we were there, we were informed that they were short staffed and that there was only 2 people front of house, however, this did not stop us being served promptly and with a smile. The food was brought out piping hot and was delicious! Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Great place, friendly staff... reasonable prices. The food wasnt the best, but its pretty decent. The food is just slapped across the counter whilst cutting for carvery, and the mashed potato is pretty thing, potentially powdered, but alright generally, with some small areas for kids to play.

Short staffed, no fault of waitress , she was trying to do 5 jobs but all the tables were dirty, nobody cleaning waited ages to be served, really slow service.Foods ok but to attract business you need more staff to clean the place

Extremely shocked at the lack of attention from staff, upon entering we went to the bar, the greeting station had gone and were asked if we wanted to be seated or find seats ourselves. As the two ladies behind the bar seemed deep in conversation we chose to seat ourselves. My partner went up to order only to be told there were no Yorkshire puddings or pigs in blankets to be had with the carvery meal we wanted. On going up to the carvery, there was only ends of beef and gammon available, we both chose beef, vegetables were very sparse, garden peas, carrots, some mushed peppers, mashed potato and roast potatoes which were very pale, this resulted in my partner having just mash, roasts and beef. The gravy station was empty and I waited for the chef to finish his conversation with the bar staff before asking for more gravy, and we were then supplied with a small gravy boat of gravy. No one checked on us during our meal and we left within half an hour of arriving. I was very disappointed with my visit and cannot believe how quiet and empty it was as I have visited in the past and found it to be the total opposite. I would be very concerned about the future of this establishment if it were to continue in this manner.

Went Saturday at 5.30pm. All available tables about 15 of them had not been cleared and were really sticky. I asked the manageress for a cloth and she said they are supposed to be like that find another table which there was none , she just walked away rudely. Young staff were tidy but sadly no mixed grills , or eggs. Marstons always seem to cut corners. Very amateur sadly

the bar staff where lovely and the restaurant was very quiet however the tables where extremely sticky (your arms stuck to the table when you lifted them up) and we had to ask to be served at the carvery as the chef seemed to be doing everything. the food was ok, an average carvery. the cakes look incredible!

Table was sticky and cutlery grubby, no mixed grill available so my partner couldn’t eat anything, my sirloin steak was tasteless and tough ( which I took back ) only 2 bar staff available to take food orders on a busy Sunday lunchtime, and for some reason the staff found it exceptable to call me love and darling, first visit but never again… left and went to Mc Donald’s

Even though the meat ran out for the carvery luke was very nice and changed it out for a hunters chicken and there was no burger buns so he asked if i would want a gluten free which i said yes too the food was lovely would defo be back again

Nice pint and decent carvery at fair prices

Finally a proper pub grab place. Went here yesterday was expecting it to be as good as it was 3 years ago. It was not carvery was a mess like a bomb had gone off. Tables were all dirty, there was food all over the floor and under tables. Staff were doing there best but clearly management is poor here. Never going back!

Absolutely beautiful carvery, good selection of meats and not too skimpy with them either 😀 friendly staff and a good atmosphere.

Booked a meal to celebrate our sons 36th Birthday, as my wife is Coeliac and has to have GF food which was ordered. 20 minutes later a waitress came over to tell us that the GF fryer that the chef uses to do the chips had gone down, so No Chips or Onion rings could be had. My wife was so disappointed! The alternative was a Jacket potato, so not to spoil our sons birthday she decided to have that, the potato was quite dry and the Rump steak that should have been cooked med to well done, was totally over cooked.. no one asked if we enjoyed our meal. Very disappointed customer.

We Just popped in when passing. We didn't have to book, so happy with the beautiful food. The staff were very kind and friendly. The kind lady who served us at the bar, was polite, friendly and very helpful. Will be going again. ☺️💕

Staff and Chef so friendly explained everything from what meat was on offers to the ingredients if you were vegan or veggie …. Carvery … omg the carvery where do I start!?!? From the Turkey to the Beef succulent and so tasty, the mash potatoes were a dream to eat, cauliflower cheese spot on creamy! The whole variety of veg was incredible but the main thing for me is the gravy! Omg it did not disappoint … I’m Going back next week lol..
