Marcella in Lewisham

Solo quería tener un almuerzo rápido con mi hija que trabaja cerca de Marcella, Deptford. Era la 1 pm fand que no habíamos reservado, pero había un par de mesas libres. Sin embargo, nos dijeron que estaban reservados, así que tuvimos que aplastar contra la mesa de la ventana y sentarnos en taburetes duros que eran extremadamente incómodos. Estuvimos allí solo 50 minutos y además de las mesas que quedaron libres, los clientes de otras 2 mesas habían terminado y se fueron. Cuando pregunté si podíamos pasar a una de las mesas desocupadas, el personal dijo que no porque “no estaban disponibles”. Ningún otro cliente llegó durante ese tiempo y 5 minutos antes de que termináramos nuestra comida, un miembro del personal decidió decirnos que podíamos cambiar a una de las mesas libres después de todo! Gesto totalmente inútil y fue una experiencia horrible para mí. Es triste que uno se sienta así cuando nuestra intención era apoyar a un negocio local. No volvería a visitar y definitivamente no recomendaría.

Después de haber planeado una modesta celebración con amigos esta fue nuestra primera visita a Marcella, y sin duda no será la última. El almuerzo ofrece un menú ligeramente abreviado durante la noche, pero había un montón de opciones y todo lo que pedimos era genial - auténtica comida italiana: elegante, sabroso y no demasiado exigente. Nos dieron una cálida bienvenida a pesar de llegar un poco temprano, y el servicio fue excelente en todo. El vino, la mayor parte de la carta viene de Italia, merece una mención especial y ofrece una buena gama por precio, con algunos por copa. Sin embargo, más bien lanzamos precaución al viento y elegimos una rosa cara pero excelente, sin remordimientos.

Nuestra tercera visita y como siempre, un pequeño menú precioso de sabores excepcionales, el precio es spot on por la calidad, y el servicio excepcional. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo.

I had been here before but it had been a couple of years and never for lunch time. I was very impressed with it the first time, so I was hoping this time would be the same. I happy to say nothing had changed. Now you need to understand I come from a family of chefs so I tend to be a food snob. All seasoning was perfect, a creative menu, complimenting flavors and a menu that changes every 2 weeks. There is not one negative comment I could give about anything I ordered. It was perfect.

Whoever Marcella is, she’s doing it right. Delicious food, great fresh ingredients. Had the lunch special which was a very reasonable price for food and a glass of wine. Service very decent.

The food is excellent! The menu is a modern take on what tastes like a traditional homemade Nona’s cooking. Delicious!!

The service was really good and the food was absolutely amazing, decided to get desserts too and they went down a treat. Would absolutely recommend this place.

This is one of a number of local restaurants we really enjoy. It can be quite pricey so we tend to limit our visits to birthdays etc, and the odd weekend lunch. Service is usually great and the food is absolutely delicious. Our last visit on a weekday evening in October 2022 unfortunately got off to a bad start when we found out our reservation was not on the books despite having made a booking over the phone AND confirmed in person a few days before the booking. No idea what happened there but it was disappointing as the meal was for a special occassion, and a booking error like this is not one you'd expect from a well established restaurant. Although the restaurant had been fully booked on the night, we were lucky enough to secure a table after a 20-30min wait in a nearby bar. Once we got seated, we had a lovely meal. The manager on duty was very apologetic & offered us a complimentary glass of wine each. I highly recommend this place.

Exceptional food. The cabbage starter and squid main were particularly great. Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Couldn't recommend it enough

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last 12 months, you will know we're living through a cost of living crisis affecting both businesses and consumers. Some restaurants have just shrugged their shoulders and adopted the mantra "my costs are going up so I'll just straight up pass them on to the customer." I don't frequent these establishments any more. Other restaurants like Marcella can show that with some thought and creative cooking you can still produce plates of food with great flavours from simple ingredients at a great price. We visited on a Sunday (£25 for 3 courses, 2 choices from each course) The meal started well. Free (a rarity nowadays) excellent quality bread. We ordered a bottle of sparkling water expecting to pay £4-5 but what arrived was probably filtered and carbonated tap water but with a good clean taste which came with a £1 charge for a donation water aid. Very admirable. We both had the aubergine dish topped with cheese and chilli crumb. Aubergine isn't easy to cook well but it was spot on beautifully soft. Mains we had a pasta dish, basic but with enough flavour and a beef dish which was obviously a cheaper cut but melt in your mouth soft I'm guessing done in a slow cooker. Highly recommended. For dessert, one generous apple cake with calvados cream and one chocolate mousse. Both spot on. I'm very fussy with my coffee but have to say it was of a very high standard. We chose two different red wines (both Italian) both were moorish. Full up and very satisfied with the whole experience. Staff were at all times attentive and friendly. The bill? £76.50 with service.

Over price food. Very poor quality and terrible service. Very rude and arrogant chef. Will certainly not recommend this restaurant.

Very overpriced menu with food that lacks in flavour and seasoning. Disinterested service. No rosé by the glass. I wouldn't recommend unfortunately.

Daughter and boyfriend live locally and have eaten here several times so it was a no brainer to book when we came to stay as they’ve raved about the place. Ate early and it filled up quickly and there was soon a great vibe about the place. Great food, friendly staff. Apparently, it’s reputation reaches far and wide and having now eaten here I can see why.

We had a lovely lunch at Marcella. Delicious food and wine. We had a couple of glasses of really nice house white, starters and pasta. I thought it was decent value for the top quality offer.

Wonderful staff who appreciated my panic at being placed in the basement. Thank you. We enjoyed a delicious meal after being moved upstairs.

Fantastic neighbourhood restaurant. Small menu of well prepared food. Staff are helpful in recommending drinks. The olive oil cake was to die for.

Great evening in the basement. Lovely seasonal menu with good veggie options. Attentive and friendly service. Highly recommend.
