Maray in Liverpool

Exceptional. I would travel to Liverpool again just to eat this food

I came here for lunch: 1 mezze and 2 plates for 19.95, which seems reasonable - until you look at the menu. If you don't want to spend 20 quid on vegetables the only options are fried chicken or fried fish. I ordered cauliflower bhajis, fried sea bass and fries. The bhajis were delicious, but from there it all went downhill rapidly. The fish was well cooked, however pretentious accompaniments cannot make up for the fact that the fish is not fresh. I understand that I chose fish despite knowing it would not be fresh, but I only chose it because of the severe lack of options on the menu. To exacerbate the situation, the fries really didn't taste good. The hummus that accompanied them was even worse. How can a restaurant serve fries that aren't good? I don't know, but they certainly managed it here. In conclusion, the menu is pretentious and overpriced with very little in the way of decent, fresh ingredients. No wonder the place was almost deserted on a Thursday lunchtime.

My favourite city centre restaurant. The food was amazing - we had the za' alook (aubergine) and the whipped goats cheese for mezze. For bigger plates we had the halloumi and the crispy seabass (WOW), followed by the delicious Medjool date bread and butter pudding. Simply brilliant! Thank you.

Normally I am not the biggest fan of Mediterranean food, but this place has definitely improved this view! We had a great dinner here, and I particularly enjoyed the goats cheese and halloumi dishes. We had around 2 dishes per person, and this was definitely more than enough food for us all!

Phenomenal!! Everything we ate was incredible, and I am counting days until we can go back again. Every bite was delicious, the service was impeccable, and it was very reasonably priced. Strongly recommend

Went with some friends during Liverpool restaurant week. The £35 Mezze Sharer set menu was great and had a lot of variety to it. I recommend on the small plates, the Disco Cauliflower and the Oyster Mushroom Shawarma. For dessert, get the Bread and Butter pudding!

I love the food at Maray. This time I was with 2 friends who hadn’t been before and they loved it too. Great food, great choice.

45 min wait for starters (a single plate of dips when we ordered for four portions!) and then all small plates came out with huge gaps of up to half an hour. Was advised to order 2 small plates each but in most case one plate was eaten long before the second plate arrived leaving us eating braised carrots or disco cauliflower on its own. Ordered lager and got pale ale. But there was lager on the menu. 1 sharer starter was knocked off bill to compensate for the wait but still not a great experience. Food was good when it eventually arrived.

We went to have our lunch for Bank Holiday Monday. It was a long time since we have been, but to say we were pleased was an understatement. The food was outstanding, cannot pick a best as it was all lovely. The staff member was so attentive, so sorry we did not get her name. I would recommend anyone visits to enjoy Maray

One of our favourite restaurants in Liverpool! Food is always delicious, lots of choice for vegeterians, lovely wine menu and they usually have a few specials to try something new. Highly recommend saving room for the bread and butter pudding!

All we can say is… Wow! What a meal! Honestly it was perfect from start to finish. Lovely friendly staff too. The food was incredible, the cauliflower of course, but also we had the whipped Goats cheese, the mushroom dish and the sea bass… oh my goodness me the flavours with the sea bass. Delicious wine too. Attentive staff, nice relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of vegetarian/ vegan options. We shared hummus/ pitta / sweet potato/ disco cauliflower. Medjool date bread and butter pudding. All excellent and would definitely recommend and return.

This was my first time trying a Mediterranean restaurant, and Maray didn’t disappoint! Not only was the food delicious, but the coffee was surprisingly good too. I didn’t get a chance to try the desserts, but based on everything else, I’m sure they’re great as well. The menu features lots of flavorful vegetable-based dishes, along with a few meat and fish options. I especially enjoyed the goat cheese with crispy fish and cauliflower—such a tasty combo! Mixing and matching the dishes was part of the fun. The staff were warm and helpful, making the whole experience even better. If you’re looking to explore Mediterranean cuisine, I highly recommend giving this place a try.

Tuvimos un tiempo encantador visitando a nuestra hija en la universidad y tener una comida con ella. Tenía un plato para compartir y era suficiente para una comida si no te gustan los platos pequeños. Pero al marido y a la hija les encantaba compartirlas. Los cócteles eran fantásticos. El pequeño restaurante era acogedor y tenía un interior cálido, nuestro servidor era encantador y no podría haber sido mejor!

The small plates in this restaurant are sensational, really packed full of flavour and well thought out. The whole ambience of the place was relaxed with warm lighting, we were sat at a bar table seat as there were no table seats left when I made the booking. We really enjoyed sitting at the bar right beside the kitchen, being able to see the food being made and the cocktails being served. The highlight of the whole meal was the carrot with tahini and bitter grapes, sharp, creamy, earthy and delicious. Everything was cooked really well and looked great on the plate. The only thing we didn't like at all was the baklava cheesecake, the raspberry was too sharp on top and full of seeds, the cake itself was not sweet enough to balance this. All being said we can't wait to go back.

Good food good value good service But I feel if I’m spending a decent amount of money to be asked to vacate table after 75 minutes is actually insulting. That’s more than £1/minute. At least give a two hour slot guys otherwise it’s just greedy.

One of THE best places to eat in Liverpool. Intimate but with a sociable vibe. Fantastic, friendly but professional service. Food is creative and the flavours are to die for !

A small plates place, which is itself small. Need to book! Populated by an adoring crowd who know the menu which is good because the lighting is of low wattage. Food is OK, service is OK. It’s an OK place.

Another visit to Maray. Food, cocktails, wine : all delicious. We dined pre-theatre at 1630 and the atmosphere was great, not too loud but nicely buzzing. The staff were lovely.

One of my favourite restaurants, best one in the chain. My daughter introduced us to the place a few years ago and every time we visit Liverpool it’s our must go to restaurant. Food 10/10 and staff relations amazing 🤩 lady has been there 5 years, friendly, welcoming and knows everything about the wine list.

Sinceramente, nos ha encantado Maray desde que abrió y nunca ha disminuido. Solo necesito decir, el shawarma de hongos - ¡guau! No pensé que nada podría superar a los famosos culi disco, pero este es un contendiente, delicioso! Estábamos felices de sentarnos al final de la larga mesa que tuvo una gran fiesta en el otro extremo en nuestra visita más reciente, el ambiente siempre es genial. El personal trae la comida a la mesa con orgullo, y con razón! Como vegetariano y comedor de carne, este es nuestro lugar favorito en Liverpool para una comida informal de platos pequeños y buen vino, ¡muy recomendable!

This place was incredible: we thought it was the best meal we have ever had at this price point. Great service and a lovely atmosphere. But, most importantly, truly outstanding food. Every dish was absolutely delicious and memorable. Worth travelling to Liverpool just to eat at Maray.

The 4 stars for the food would have been 5 star only for the Goats cheese which wasn't very nice, however the rest of our food was absolutely delicious. The service is amazing, the staff are very attentative and know their menu. The atmosphere is good. My only criticism, which is the reason why I won't return on an evening, is that the long table in the middle of the room is far too cosy, leaving you sitting far to close to people you don't know. It is a little to intimate and made us feel a little uncomfortable throughout our meal. Luckily the couple at the end of our table left and nobody else was booked in so we were able to move along slightly creating a bit of space to relax. The Albert Dock restaurant has much better seating arrangements.

Cenamos temprano aquí esta noche. Servicio estupendo, comida excelente, carta de vinos interesante y gran ambiente. Recomendaría el Falafel Sharer, y el vino tinto de Macedonia del Norte. El Dopiaza de Garbanzos estaba muy bien condimentado, la manzana encurtida en medio del queso de cabra batido le dio otro nivel. La pitta tiene un hermoso borde carbonizado / ahumado. Toda la comida era fresca y muy bien presentado. El pudín de pan y dátiles también vale la pena, y el vino de postre libanés fue una buena manera de terminar. Consíguete reservar, no te arrepentirás. 125 libras por 4 con vino.

Fui aquí con mi hermana y dos sobrinas ya que era uno de sus cumpleaños. Es un poco 'escupido y aserroso' para mi gusto habitual y podría haber sido un poco más cálido, pero he dado 5 estrellas porque la comida era increíble! Mi sobrina pidió, como lo había hecho antes y los platos pequeños me dejan confundida ya que algunos siempre son mucho más pequeños que otros, así que necesitas saberlo! Todo lo que teníamos era delicioso... Me encantó y sin duda volvería. El vino Malbec también estaba muy bien. Servicio excelente.

We found this place on Google Maps and booked in for lunch the next day. They had a special offer for January, all vegan dishes were 50% off. We tried all of the vegan small plates and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The cocktails were fab too! Very helpful staff and great atmosphere. Loved it 🥰

Great restaurant - interesting selection of food and cocktails. Based on last visit would particularly recommend lamb arayes and the redbush old fashioned. Also is a good restaurant for those with vegan requirements with plenty of choice in that area. Service great. Ambience great. We had a great Friday night there.

Good food and service! Everything I've tried was really good! I've been to the one in Bold Steet twice this month. I just found out there is one closer to me which is in the Albert Dock so I will go there bext time as it seems they also have a more extensive menu on weekend. My favorite is the crispy sea bass!! Bhadji is also very good. Ox cheek is gokd but portuon is too small. Falafels are very good too. For one person, 2 plates seem enough. I have tried the baklava cheese cake but it doesn't stand out to me. I'd stick to the savoury ones. It was always easy to grab a table but probably the one in Albert Dock would need booking ahead.

Nice enough place. Relaxed atmosphere and service good. It’s small plate Middle Eastern food. Everything I had was nice. Would I say it was outstanding, no. I would probably suggest having perhaps 2 mains and 1 side each and you can do a bit of sharing.

Food was nice but they charge for tap water! Outrageous and not sure how they can get away with it as they serve alcohol and so are legally required to provide tap water free of charge. My friend and I attended to take advantage of the half price on veggie food deal which is on throughout January. It came to £30 in total for two (including £3 for a 750ml bottle of tap water...) so if paying normal price it would definitely be out of a normal or even reasonable range for vegetarian food as it was almost all plant-based with just one cheese-based dish. Also, they try and advertise themselves as a plant-based venue but they do serve meat and fish products. The staff member who served us was not terribly friendly either. Although it was tasty food, I wouldn't pay £60 for it. And won't be going back after the tap water charge.

Genuinely one of the best places I've had lunch in a long time. Fast and friendly service, gorgeous atmosphere and superior food at a reasonable price. I'm a veggie a.d my partner isn't. We botb loved the food options and are looking forward to visiting the Manchester branch soon.

We had our first visit to Maray on Monday 30th December and absolutely loved it! All dishes were amazing but the Disco Cauli, Whipped Goats Cheese and Oyster Mushrooms topped the charts for us both! Will definitely be returning :)

We went to maray after watching a YouTube review and it did not disappoint. We was greeted by Melanie who was a superb host, helping us with our choices of small plates to share and choosing delicious cocktails. We needed help as it all looked so good . The goats cheese and flatbread was incredible, I would gladly eat it everyday , I could not describe how good. The rest of the dishes were equally good, especially the cauliflower bhaji. A lovely atmosphere,great bar area with cocktails as good as I have had anywhere. The quality of everything we received on the day was so good we will definitely go again the next time we are in Liverpool. Probably more than once as we need to try all the delicious vegetarian options on the menu , and a few more cocktails of course. If I could give more than 5 stars I would . A must go to place in a great city

A great spot at the top of Bold Street, a cosy place with a relaxed feel, great service and even greater food. The whipped goats cheese with pickled apple and herb oil has a creamy texture and an earthy flavour. The braised carrots with black garlic tahini and sour grapes are delicious and tender, and the halloumi with puy lentil salsa is salty and rich. These small plates are small masterpieces of flavour, texture and presentation, you want to savour every mouthful of each one. The service is chilled but attentive and helpful, adding to the pleasure of the experience. And a great selection of drinks too. Marat is definitely 10 out of 10 on all counts.

Tasty food and good service, recommend the mezze sharer, lamb, cod, rice and lentils and cauliflower. I personally found the food slightly salty but my boyfriend said it was fine and it's because I don't season my food lol.. The bread and butter pudding was really nice, probs my fav item.

Everything from when we walked in and recieving a warm friendly greeting the staff were so inviting. The service I couldn't fault and the spicy margarita I had was best i have tasted. The food was incredible and every dish was delicious. Thank you for a great night, il definitely be back.

Had an amazing meal here. Vegetables take the centre stage and everything is bursting with flavour. Bright, sweet, tangy, rich, herby, and roasty, so much going on! Particularly recommend the aubegine za-alak (think it was called). Intensely rich and savoury. If you want to eat more healthy/sustainable, plant based food but don't want to compromise in taste, this is the place.
