Came on Monday night for my Boyfriend's Birthday. Food is nice however it is a bit overpriced in my opinion..one of the dishes was burned (the courgette mucver). The desserts were really nice though. We were in the basement where the ambiance is not great in my opinion.. Service is good although the staff took some time to acknoledge us when we arrived ( despite we had a table booked)..but i must say it was quite busy. Overall i would recommend it if you are willing to spend some money and if your table is upstairs :)

Super disappointing. The food was flavourless with the exception of the pide and the kofte which were the small starters. The lamb ribs were terrible, mostly raw fat. The onion salad was basically a barbecued onion and the mushroom manti lacked taste and seasoning. Complained about the ribs dish to staff but didn’t offer to replace it with another dish or take it off the bill. We have had much better food and paid half the money in the traditional turkish mangal places elsewhere in Dalston.

Went to Mangal II with my girlfriend and from the moment we entered we felt right at home. The service was top, really looked after us, and the food was just as wonderful. The beef rib was to die for and the mezcal verdita is a must try cocktail. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Been wanting to come here ages and it did not disappoint! The pide are amazing, we loved the one with cull yaw fat. The waiter was lovely, and was kind enough to send us home with some extra and we’ve got them in the freezer for breakfast! For starters we had the hummus and the lamb ribs which were delicious. But our favourite was the lamb kebab with apple - SO GOOD! Then we shared the mackerel between us, i dont usually love mackerel but this was amazing. Will be ordering the cook book so i can learn how to make that tahini and apple tart for sure!

I wanted to like this, but it was impossible. Monday evening dinner for 3 ppl. Can't remember the last time I was so outraged after leaving the restaurant. Underwhelming food for prices which are too high, and mid service. First the service. Reserved upstairs, called ahead well be 15 min late and they said they will amend the reservation. Once we arrived they were like, no youre in the basement (there was plenty of space upstairs for 3 ppl and they still insisted). Staff is friendly but not that knowledgeable. After not having the wine we requested, they suggested an alternative with the reasoning "it's the cheapest house wine" (not hung up about the price, but it was smth completely different). Also no cooler for white wine. All food took way too long to bring (not a fan of restaurants that try to shuffle you out the door but this was seriously slow) Food dish by dish, but in general everything was at the same time burned and undercooked. The ingredients weren't top either. Once you account for the size and price it's just ridiculous. Pide with kaymak: burnt on the bottom (not lightly charred as it should be, literally burnt) and too chewy as a result Cull yew kofte with apple sauce: nice but it's the smallest kofte I've seen in my life. While the sauce saved it, kofte itself was extremely tasteless Smoked hummus with pickles and crackers: alright I guess? However two crackers for tiny bit of hummus defeats the whole purpose of the dip. Pickles were underwhelming as well in variety and taste. There was also a hair in the plate but it was still too early in the night for us to kick up a fuss. If it happened towards the end definitely would Courgette (kinda fried patty type): this was good compared to the rest but still kind of bland. The sauce saved it to an extent but doesn't justify its price tag on the menu Lamb ribs with cranberries: outrageously bad. This is where we decided were not coming back. Absolutely burned on the outside (again, burned, not charred) while completely undercooked on the inside. Genuinely shocking Mushroom manti:pretty good, not gonna lie. I can see a version of this meal where I somehow had a slightly less burned Pide, the courgette, and then this and said not fantastic but pretty good. Prime rib: supermarket quality rib. Not well cooked. Relatively bland garnished. 65 pounds lmao Anyway, I see what this restaurant is trying to do but it fails at doing it. It ends up being neither an interesting take on Turkish cuisine, nor your average med/euro inspired small plate restaurant. I wouldn't rant so much if the prices weren't obnoxious at the same time. The best part of the meal was going across the street for kunefe. Very nice people, and probably would have a better, if not as posh, dinner there One word summary: avoid

"Greedy. Despite more than 20 tables in that very small place they needed to add one almost in the restroom (smell and light and poeple going in an out...). We got that one even if they were some more tables still available (we made a reservation like everyone else, why we had to get that table and not the next/last poeple coming is not clear) It was a very unpleasant experience. The food was just ok. We stayed 30min (just because we get charged 60€ if we don't show up)."

The service was great but the food not so great. The main issue with the menu is that it’s lacking freshness, everything is very oily or salty. And we ordered the entire menu to share…. The cured trout was extremely salty and the mackerel was too oily… the bourek was also pretty heavy and cheesy with a green sauce that could have been light and fresh but is not. The bread is absolutely delicious though. Finally the baklava was a bit underwhelming, could have been served with a lighter ice cream instead of the yogurt… Overall restaurant has potential but this menu wasn’t great.

My third time visiting last night, introduced friends to this spot but we left disappointed and still a bit hungry. We had to stand awkwardly inside the door for 10 mins while our table was prepared. Their sourdough pide was great, as was the hummus. We all loved the chicken dish. The lamb ribs were mostly gristle / bone. The Barbunya should be removed from the menu, none of us liked it. The (small) plates did not justify the final bill which had to be revised as they overcharged us 🤷🏻♂️ Great atmosphere though!

Service was horrendous - even if it was someone's first night (not sure that was the case, but giving the three servers the benefit of doubt), that is no excuse for being completely inept. Main dishes were served when all the dirty dishes from starters were still on the table, no one asked what we wanted to drink when we arrived, not told ahead of time that dishes where unavailable, dishes being cleared were dropped and wine spilled. Menu is very small, but surprisingly ordinary for what claims to be "modern" Turkish. Let's face it - humus or beans can be made well in advance and aren't fancy dishes; they were just ok. Grilled chicken arrived tepid (how long had it been sitting out before being served?); manti were like chewy, over-sized Chinese dumplings and not very nice. And very noisy. To add insult to injury, my husband is gluten intolerant - there was no gluten- free beer or cider on offer - well into the 21st century. Been twice before when things were ok-ish and thought we'd give it one more chance. Won't be going back.

We’re advised to have 6 starters to charge between 3 of us and 2 main courses. They all disappeared as soon as arrived. Bread was brilliant and hummus was best ever tasted. I do love this place and it holds a special place in my heart from when I lived in Dalston. The kebabs before they went boujé, suçuk muffin during COVID days etc. I even have their t-shirt. 80% of the current food is wonderful - especially that sourdough pide. Some dishes deffo don’t slap like they should. Only thing I have an issue with is last time I came for my birthday, it felt like we were rushed out. We arrived at 6pm and was out by 6.40pm. We ordered a good few plates and they all came super quick between each other. Luckily the table next to us was empty, because we had to spill over. I appreciate the more covers you get the more money you get as a business. But the last experience has put me off for a while. The price point you’re paying vs feeling super rushed out was not worth it.

I am being generous with my score because it would be mean to give less. The big question though, is it worth the bill I paid? Absolutely not. This place is super hyped because they have thought about how to present Turkish food in the 21st century, and I applaud that. In Dalston it steps out of the traditional Turkish fayre to give newbies something different. The mackerel was the star of the show, banging with flavour. The rest was nice but underwhelming. I enjoyed it enough. Did I love it, no. Do I regret going, no. Would I go again no.

Not long ago this used to be one of many Turkish places offering delicious grilled meats. It has now reinvented itself as a modern Turkish cuisine hipster joint but the food is very average and disappointing, and the price too high for the minuscule dishes that are offered. Barbunya, the Turkish beans which taste good out of a tinned can, was malnourished and lacking taste here. For the price of £11 or so you get a single börek, which is just ridiculous. They better improve on their products or prices pretty soon!

Sadly it was a really poor experience - in every way, for a birthday. From the food quality to the service. We left an email to which no response. Apalling. 1 star because there’s no option for 0. Fed us mutton dripping on our bread after we stated on the booking form that we were vegetarian and halal, told each waiter that we were vegetarian and halal, and asked them to state exactly which dishes on the menu were vegetarian as there was no dietary information. There was barely an apology. The service was incredibly rude, the waiters were not busy but incredibly hard to get hold of, and brushed dirt from the next table onto us whenever they ‘cleaned’ the tables. After after feeding us meat after we’d only ordered vegetarian food and explained our dietary requirements THAT many times, it was insulting that the only apology offered was taking the meat we never ordered off the meal (totalling to 4.95).

A bit disappointing really. The restaurant is small, noisy and not really much fun for somebody of my age (62). My wife described the food as “superficially Turkish” - this is not your standard ocakbasi. Hummus was fine but a bit bland although I did enjoy the pickled vegetables served alongside. The borek was not great - slightly soggy pastry with what seemed to be a cream cheese and chive filling. Kofte was fine but similar to what you find elsewhere. My wife’s lamb loin was good and the lamb beyti was better. My mackerel dish was exceptional, simple and well executed. This was an average meal for a relatively high price - and not really great value. Mangal 2 is not terrible, but it doesn’t really deserve the great reviews and we won’t be hurrying back.

Lots of hype around Mangal and it's rise to glory. Went in with lots of expectations. Left feeling a little disappointed. Food is fine, but only as good as lots of other small plate sharing joints that have popped across the city In past years. It didn't leave a lasting impression. Wine list felt like a fairly run of the mill natty wine affair. Service was pretty rubbish. We were sat next to a slightly chemical smelling bathroom and left unattended to for a lot of our time there. We ordered bread with starters which failed to arrive in sync with other dishes. For the price we could have eaten at places nearby that have offered much more impressive plates and a much better service. Probably won't return. If you want some of those Turkish flavours then give it a go.

I joined a larger group for a friends birthday as we had been wanting to go for a while. We were advised to order the entire menu and with 3 glasses of wine alongside the meal we ended up spending £80 per head. I wouldn't say we were full but we were a group of 6 guys so that might be about right. The starter dishes were a mixed bag, the menu overall was quite saucy and they could have done with reducing them down a little further as they felt a little thin / watery. The tartare (raw beef dish) had great intensity coming from the beef but was under seasoned. The Aubergine was a banger. The Lokma was the winner from the starters section. Not huge amounts of Fennel in the sauce it came with but the meat was very tasty it didnt need anything. The pide was a delight, we ordered another round, the butter was absurdly delicious with a soft creamy texture. The Whole Mackerel was very much half a Whole Mackerel... but delicious nevertheless. The star of the show was really the Ex-Dairy Beef Rib. The fat on the beef had such an amazing viscosity, creamy, buttery deliciousness coupled with an amazing crust on the beef that was perfectly cooked. That was a 5* dish. The wine list, extensive and relatively exciting (5 natural wines in typical Stoke Newington hipster fashion). Paired well with the dishes but we could have had a bit more face time with the waitress and suggestions would have been encouraged as far as the pairings go. Overall the service was okay, not invasive, slightly hands off but given we are in a difficult staffing climate and there were only 2 people on the floor I presume they were dealing with a challenging service. Thanks for the night to the entire team. Go enjoy some delicious cooked meat.

Waited 25mins for our table (we’d booked). Acoustics were awful, could hardly hear my friend speak and we were only a table of two. Just one cocktail on the menu, when we tried to order a G&T we were told it wasn’t possible as the one cocktail (Negroni) was a pre mix, so not fresh. The food was nice but unremarkable, certainly not worth the price. The restaurant is packed in way to tightly, we were constantly bumped into or having to move glasses and plates to make space for other customers to get past. Really cramped, to an unpleasant degree. I was really excited to go to this restaurant and was extremely disappointed.

The highlight of my London trip. Sourdough pita. Creative takes on Turkish dishes, great wine list. The mushroom manti and the borek were highlights. Worth the trek out of central London

Food was v good but the main course portions are way too small My partner is a vegetarian and her options were not good . Pretty much all fried food - apart from an aubergine dish but she doesn’t like aubergine The waitress got the starter order wrong which is fine , mistakes happen but she didn’t delay the main course so it meant that I got my starter and main course together . The drinks menu is not great . So as long as you’re not vegetarian the food is great , portions are small and it’s quite expensive

A local Dalston legend for a good reason. Simple, unfussy menu means that they can concentrate on getting the food right every time. We were a big party of 20+ and the handled us efficiently and professionally.

Made a reservation for this place for my partners birthday, as it's a place he's been wanting to check out for a while. The food was fairly tasty but the portions were very small and a bit overpriced even for this type of establishment. They had a few vegetarian options which was unexpected and these were delicious. The atmosphere and staff were very lovely and attentive however so it's still a decent place to go for a date.

Great food, such a delicate and considered take on Turkish food. Delicious food served in a relaxed and friendly manner.

We had a dinner with friends, definitely we didn’t like. There is no good service and persons are so rude. we paid bill but they took renaming amount without asking as a tip. That’s is so annoying, unprofessional. Definitely don’t recommend.

The food is tasty minus the aubergine dish that is swamped by a watery sauce. The prices are very punchy and it is missing a large sharing bread/carb to mop up the nice sauces. The wine list is very nice but bottles are starting at £50. Overall i would not recommend as there are much better places to eat for the amount of money you need to spend, £70+pp, whilst still leaving hungry

We went to mangal with my family for lunch. They said there’s no table available when they had 4 seat table near the door. They had 1 person sitting on a table for 6. Rude and bad service very surprised as we been going there for long time .

Disappointing. A riff on Turkish classics that falls flat. The lamb kofte, usually sizzling, arrived cold; the fresh pide was stodgy; the baklava was oily, stingy on nuts and a confusingly bad combo with sour berry yoghurt. I suggest going to the original Mangal restaurant across the road for a taste of how good Turkish food can really be.

I got there by myself, there were tables available but they said they were fully booked because I was by myself. When I was at the for they offered me a table, as they understood no one else would come on a week day. Terrible, will never go back. If a solo woman can eat at their restaurant let alone what they stand for

Mangal 2 was perhaps the best meal I’ve had in London. The service was exceptional. A fantastic atmosphere, and the food.. I don’t know where to start. There wasn’t any duds. The Apple and tahini tart .. wow! So different and delicious. Not overpriced, just fabulous, can’t-stop-thinking-about-it food and I think I have eaten at a lot of great places in London. If unsure, book!! It does not disappoint.

You may have to pay a little more for smaller plates here but everything that came to our table was top notch - so so tasty and flavourful and in the end a perfect amount of food. We had 4 small plates, 1 main and 2 deserts between two and this was enough and we got to sample a big range of the menu.

As much as I wanted to love it because of other reviews and it being hyped up, I unfortunately struggled to. A few gripes, but the main one is this: way too heavy-handed with the salt. Almost every dish was too salty - was the chef having a bad day? We had all the starters except for Octopus. Didn’t have any of the mains.

Unbelievably fantastic food, great vibe, and (all things considered) not too pricey. Cannot speak highly enough of their lamb dish !

There are some dishes that are really very delicious and some that are quite average. The octopus was unfortunately quite tough and chewy. My main gripe is that the prices seem extortionate for the portion size. I dont think its very good value at all. I think you'll find much better food for less in London. And if you want to spend £50-60 per head you can get something incredible elsewhere.

Absolutely awful. No one knows how to run a restaurant these days, they only care about the money. Service was awful, the waitress was young and rude and had an egotistical attitude. We got sat in the basement where it was dark hot and loud. The type of people who come here have no taste, just awful gentrifying people who are loud and say stupid things so their dull but loud conversation ruined the meal. The food was so average, dry kebabs, the worst aubergine dish I have ever had - it was literally an awful consistency with no flavor and covered in an oily watery bath. White wine was served warm. Everything here one could easily make at home, or you can get much better and cheaper two doors down at another place. The only thing that was good or memorable was the apple tart. No sense of service either, when I expressed my concern they looked at me dumbfounded… like… umm maybe you should do something? Not a good restaurant experience unless you do things just for show or hype or have no taste

Went here many months ago but forgot to leave a review. Portion size was the main issue when you consider the price. The food was a high quality standard but given the location and food we ordered it was very expensive. The setting isn’t anything special. The service was excellent. Was nice to try but definitely won’t come back.

Sat outside - I picked a shady seat - and had Menemen breakfast and coffee. Both were perfect. The place is chilled and friendly. Read the paper for a while and watched the World go by. Perfect spot.
