We’d been looking forward to visit Mangal II as all we’d heard was good things. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great and we had high hopes, unfortunately the food did not match. We had a starter of lamb kofte & pide, the kofte was over done and cold and the bread nothing to write home about. Second course was a disappointingly expensive over cooked and cold lamb rib. The main of £25 chicken was at least tasty but again cold and the wing was definitely on the wrong side of charred and again cold. All in all a disappointing meal

First time here in a few years - excellent atmosphere, service and most importantly the food was amazing and arrived earlier than expected to be totally honest. I also had a small taste of the chefs special ezme salad that was a dream!

Review: I recently had an incredibly disappointing experience at this restaurant. We made a reservation and arrived on time, only to be told to wait for 10 minutes. When we returned after the initial wait, we were told to wait another 10 minutes. On our third attempt, we noticed new people seated at the tables, yet we were informed that we’d need to wait at least another 15 minutes. The server was rude and unprofessional, even raising their voices at us, which made the experience even worse. The overall attitude and lack of respect from the team left a very unpleasant impression. I would not recommend this place to anyone who values their time and good service.

The restaurant has a cosy atmosphere and had pleasant music. We had the smoked hummus for starters. It came with 2 small thin crackers, which had a wonderful flavour but were extremely salty. I would recommend using less rock salt on them. The hummus was very smooth and perfectly seasoned. However, I would have preferred it to have the grainy texture from the chickpeas and to taste more of the tahini. I also found that it had too much olive oil. The pickled cauliflower and purple broccoli was very enjoyable and added more life to the dish with its pickled flavour and crunchy texture. We ended up ordering another starter of sourdough bread to soak up the remaining olive oil. I was disappointed, as it was just a small piece of sourdough with a lot of oil in the center, and I found it overpriced. They could have offered us a basket of bread like actual Turkish restaurants do. These small details make you appreciate places more. The lamb ribs dish was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection, featuring delicious flavors, but I recommend using less sauce. The grilled sea bream was excellently cooked, tender, flaky, and with nice crispy skin. The fresh samphire retained its crunch. The roe butter had a rich flavor, but they served too much of it. Unfortunately, the restaurant's customer service was not very welcoming. It lacked the warmth associated with Turkish hospitality and generosity, particularly as they did not offer complimentary bread or tea at the end of the meal.

Every dish had something good/unique about it but something would always make the experience worse. Kofte starter with apple sauce was solid. Pita was small and oily. Smoky hummus was some of the best I've had but I had more oil than hummus, so much I had to pour it out on a separate plate. The lamb ribs had the most incredible sour cherry sauce, but it was all fat. £17 for 3 ribs and I had more meat in one chicken wing from kfc. As for the chicken main, we had to wait 20 minutes between courses and still the sauce was floury, the chicken was juicy but unseasoned, the kebab style chicken was basically a cold meatloaf, and the rice was cold. I was excited for the apricot & pine nuts combo but they took the rice out of the fridge and forgot to heat it before serving! I loved the negroni cocktail, though. Personally it's really, really bad value for £100 for one starter, one pita, two small plates, one big plate, one tea, and one cocktail.

Absolute gem of a restaurant with lovely staff, delicious food and an intimate atmosphere. This place is a London staple and should be visited by all around. Our server Ferhat was absolutely lovely and made our experience a dream. Prepare to leave Mangal II with a new lease on life and with your culinary bar raised. Will be back as much as I can, and armed with the new cookbook, I will aim to recreate Mangal II’s gastronomical beauties in my own kitchen (not that I could come close to the restaurants quality).

Dined downstairs in a badly lit damp area of the restaurant. Food was just OK and nothing special. Portions were small and we were all served at different times and spent the evening watching each other eating whilst the other waited for their food. When the mains arrived I was disappointed to find that the sea bream was a single frozen fillet and was very rubbery all for £25,needless to say I sent it back and once we paid I went home to cook a proper meal. All in all it was an anti climax for a restaurant that is very over rated and well below average restaurant.

Really, really disappointed by almost everything - the food portions were tiny, the prices eye-watering, and the service really just not up to it. There was 3 of us, we spent just over 150 pounds collectively, and all left still hungry. Staff were very friendly, but just not attentive. Tables were tiny and lighting too bright for an evening restaurant. Nothing felt special or specific to the place, and it was quite sad to see that Mangal 2 is just another over-priced, over-hyped small plates London restaurant.

Unbelievably disappointed Been wanting to go here for a little while and it ended up being underwhelming and ridiculously expensive. Overall food was just fine - too salty and uninteresting - no where near worth the price tags. The staff were inattentive and unhelpful. When we arrived there was no advice as to how many dishes to order which is common at similar restaurants and throughout the meal we struggled to order more drinks, water wasn’t refilled and at the end the staff evaded eye contact so we struggled to get the bill. We had two cocktails each which were amongst the best things we had. smoked olive oil martini - couldn’t taste much smoke and tasted like cheap alcohol Smoked Black Cardamom Negroni - cardamon flavour was overpowering and not very enjoyable Mezcal Verdita - really really nice Food: Maldon Rock Oyster with White Plum Ezme and Purple Basil - oyster was extremely small especially considering the time Of year and the garnish was flavourless adding nothing. Sourdough Pide with Cultured Kaymak Butter - really nice especially the butter but bread was tiny Grilled Blooming Onion Salad - fine, burnt on parts of the outside and most of the inside was crunchy, I suppose because it’s cooked on a bbq but wasn’t very nice and an onion for £9.50? Courgette Mücver with Celeriac Cream and Pickled Fennel - pretty nice Cured Wild Bass Pastirma and Sorrel - just tasted of salt - I disliked it and I love salt Mushroom Mantı with Wild Mushrooms and Garlic-Yoghurt - very nice and different to other things I’d had before A white fish with Samphire and Bone Butter - asked the waitress if they could do it without bone butter as I would have preferred normal butter and response was unhelpful, I understand if it’s not possible but the response was clueless and the kitchen was not asked if it was possible. Despite this, after some of the food had arrived and the portions were so small my bf ordered it. It was fine - nothing special. The bill arrived and they’d hiked up the price of our second two cocktails -only by 50p each - but adding on to the sub par, astronomically priced meal, it left me with an extremely sour taste as I walked away. I won’t be returning.

I think this restaurant has potential but is currently over-priced for what it is. It's also annoyingly one of those places where you are forced to spend a lot of money to be full. A main course at £25 isn't quite enough to fill you, so you're advised to supplement it with a starter or smaller plate. The ambiance is gorgeous and some of the food was really tasty - the apple tahini tart and sourdough pide. Was the meat succulent and tender enough for the price hike? Perhap not.

Not worth the price, or the hype. Went here for lunch with a friend and both ended up with food poisoning for the weekend. This only added to the already poor experience; staff were very inattentive despite there being only a few other diners, service was slow and the dishes were average at best, including extremely dry + tough chicken and oily fish. Gave them an opportunity to make it right after making us ill and was offered 25% off my next visit, which will not be happening.

Very overpriced, bland food and tiny tiny portions. So disappointed after all the hype I had heard. Not exactly sure what was Turkish about it either. Dinner for 2, with no drinks was £90 and had to go to the chippy afterwards as was starving! Was also seated in a cellar room with no natural light. Just so madly priced and you will get a much better authentic Turkish meal for 1/3rd of the price locally. Don’t bother in my humble opinion!

Super disappointing. The food was flavourless with the exception of the pide and the kofte which were the small starters. The lamb ribs were terrible, mostly raw fat. The onion salad was basically a barbecued onion and the mushroom manti lacked taste and seasoning. Complained about the ribs dish to staff but didn’t offer to replace it with another dish or take it off the bill. I wanted to like this, but it was impossible. Monday evening dinner for 3 ppl. Can't remember the last time I was so outraged after leaving the restaurant. Underwhelming food for prices which are too high, and mid service. First the service. Reserved upstairs, called ahead well be 15 min late and they said they will amend the reservation. Once we arrived they were like, no youre in the basement (there was plenty of space upstairs for 3 ppl and they still insisted). Staff is friendly but not that knowledgeable. After not having the wine we requested, they suggested an alternative with the reasoning "it's the cheapest house wine" (not hung up about the price, but it was smth completely different). Also no cooler for white wine. All food took way too long to bring (not a fan of restaurants that try to shuffle you out the door but this was seriously slow) Food dish by dish, but in general everything was at the same time burned and undercooked. The ingredients weren't top either. Once you account for the size and price it's just ridiculous. Pide with kaymak: burnt on the bottom (not lightly charred as it should be, literally burnt) and too chewy as a result Cull yew kofte with apple sauce: nice but it's the smallest kofte I've seen in my life. While the sauce saved it, kofte itself was extremely tasteless Smoked hummus with pickles and crackers: alright I guess? However two crackers for tiny bit of hummus defeats the whole purpose of the dip. Pickles were underwhelming as well in variety and taste. There was also a hair in the plate but it was still too early in the night for us to kick up a fuss. If it happened towards the end definitely would Courgette (kinda fried patty type): this was good compared to the rest but still kind of bland. The sauce saved it to an extent but doesn't justify its price tag on the menu Lamb ribs with cranberries: outrageously bad. This is where we decided were not coming back. Absolutely burned on the outside (again, burned, not charred) while completely undercooked on the inside. Genuinely shocking Mushroom manti:pretty good, not gonna lie. I can see a version of this meal where I somehow had a slightly less burned Pide, the courgette, and then this and said not fantastic but pretty good. Prime rib: supermarket quality rib. Not well cooked. Relatively bland garnished. 65 pounds lmao Anyway, I see what this restaurant is trying to do but it fails at doing it. It ends up being neither an interesting take on Turkish cuisine, nor your average med/euro inspired small plate restaurant. I wouldn't rant so much if the prices weren't obnoxious at the same time. The best part of the meal was going across the street for kunefe. Very nice people, and probably would have a better, if not as posh, dinner there One word summary: avoid

"Greedy. Despite more than 20 tables in that very small place they needed to add one almost in the restroom (smell and light and poeple going in an out...). We got that one even if they were some more tables still available (we made a reservation like everyone else, why we had to get that table and not the next/last poeple coming is not clear) It was a very unpleasant experience. The food was just ok. We stayed 30min (just because we get charged 60€ if we don't show up)."

The service was great but the food not so great. The main issue with the menu is that it’s lacking freshness, everything is very oily or salty. And we ordered the entire menu to share…. The cured trout was extremely salty and the mackerel was too oily… the bourek was also pretty heavy and cheesy with a green sauce that could have been light and fresh but is not. The bread is absolutely delicious though. Finally the baklava was a bit underwhelming, could have been served with a lighter ice cream instead of the yogurt… Overall restaurant has potential but this menu wasn’t great.

My third time visiting last night, introduced friends to this spot but we left disappointed and still a bit hungry. We had to stand awkwardly inside the door for 10 mins while our table was prepared. Their sourdough pide was great, as was the hummus. We all loved the chicken dish. The lamb ribs were mostly gristle / bone. The Barbunya should be removed from the menu, none of us liked it. The (small) plates did not justify the final bill which had to be revised as they overcharged us 🤷🏻♂️ Great atmosphere though!

No volveremos.

I do love this place and it holds a special place in my heart from when I lived in Dalston. The kebabs before they went boujé, suçuk muffin during COVID days etc. I even have their t-shirt. 80% of the current food is wonderful - especially that sourdough pide. Some dishes deffo don’t slap like they should. Only thing I have an issue with is last time I came for my birthday, it felt like we were rushed out. We arrived at 6pm and was out by 6.40pm. We ordered a good few plates and they all came super quick between each other. Luckily the table next to us was empty, because we had to spill over. I appreciate the more covers you get the more money you get as a business. But the last experience has put me off for a while. I am being generous with my score because it would be mean to give less. The big question though, is it worth the bill I paid? Absolutely not. This place is super hyped because they have thought about how to present Turkish food in the 21st century, and I applaud that. In Dalston it steps out of the traditional Turkish fayre to give newbies something different. The mackerel was the star of the show, banging with flavour. The rest was nice but underwhelming. Apalling. 1 star because there’s no option for 0. Fed us mutton dripping on our bread after we stated on the booking form that we were vegetarian and halal, told each waiter that we were vegetarian and halal, and asked them to state exactly which dishes on the menu were vegetarian as there was no dietary information. There was barely an apology. The service was incredibly rude, the waiters were not busy but incredibly hard to get hold of, and brushed dirt from the next table onto us whenever they ‘cleaned’ the tables. After after feeding us meat after we’d only ordered vegetarian food and explained our dietary requirements THAT many times, it was insulting that the only apology offered was taking the meat we never ordered off the meal (totalling to 4.95).

A bit disappointing really. The restaurant is small, noisy and not really much fun for somebody of my age (62). My wife described the food as “superficially Turkish” - this is not your standard ocakbasi. Hummus was fine but a bit bland although I did enjoy the pickled vegetables served alongside. The borek was not great - slightly soggy pastry with what seemed to be a cream cheese and chive filling. Kofte was fine but similar to what you find elsewhere. My wife’s lamb loin was good and the lamb beyti was better. My mackerel dish was exceptional, simple and well executed. This was an average meal for a relatively high price - and not really great value. Mangal 2 is not terrible, but it doesn’t really deserve the great reviews and we won’t be hurrying back.

A must visit destination. Modern Turkish cuisine, smashed out of the park. I’ve taken people here who were expecting a traditional bbq set up, so set the expectations before (or not 😂)! Great for a special occasion.

My only regret is not taking pictures of the food! Stunning, filling and very flavourful. We tried one of each main dish and a couple of starters between 7 of us. Highly recommend choosing this restaurant.

Tiny portions, overpriced and pretentious……very cramped…I found it very poor value for money. If you don’t value good food and like to waste your money, this is definitely the place to eat… enjoy…

Disappointing meal - portions were tiny and so overpriced. Food was very average and some of the dishes were pretty bland tasting, which is not what you want when you’re getting 2-3 bites of a small plate each. Defo not worth the hype. Will be going to Mangal 1 next time.

All the meat dishes are amazing I would recommend going heavy on the meat, everything else was lovely but not as good as the meat.

The food we had was very tasty but the portions were much smaller than expected and extremely overpriced. The main courses we ordered were expensive and didn’t come with carbs and also arrived at different times. I don’t think we would come back again.

We had a great time here. Was in the basement, which had a great atmosphere. There was good amounts of space and the sittings were staggered so it wasn't overwhelming with noise. The food was incredible. We ordered 2 dishes twice because they were delicious. The waiter was incredible, he was knowledgable and just gave the room a great vibe. The wine choice was vast and we enjoyed a lovely few glasses of orange and red. Also loved the desserts. Will definitely we back.

This became my favourite restaurant in london after my first visit. The flavours are extraordinary, every dish is made to perfection and is very reasonably priced. The atmosphere is quite relaxed, I liked the art inside - and the meal was top-notch. The aged beef my boyfriend and I shared was out of this world, the lamb was spectacular. I only took a picture of one dish because when I started eating it I forgot about everything else in the world. The bread and butter they bring out from the beginning was also like nowhere else I’ve had before - and I love bread and butter. The service was spectacular too! Overall, amazing place and would 100% come back!

Overpriced. Meat dishes are good but vegetable/fish dishes are bland. Mangal 1 is better and you will get your money’s worth there.

I believe the menu constantly changes but we were lucky enough to have the mackerel, which was beyond delicious and the tahini apple tart was the perfect finisher.

Extremely over hyped. Very disappointing experience. Tried most dishes on the menu and only the lamb was good. Go to Mangal 1 around the corner for a Mangal experience and half the price. Mangal 1 is my top 3 fav resto in Ldn.

No words to describe how good it was. We had the borek for starter and mushroom manti + lamb as main and then the apple tahini tart for dessert. So good! It’s already in my top 3 restaurants in London 🔝

Every single thing we ordered was excellent, tasty in a way I have rarely had before with this type of cuisine and head and shoulders above other local restaurants. The bread to start was divine, as was the kofte and the two starter dishes, one aubergine dip and one onion salad, were also extraordinary. Then the mains. While the lamb (pictured) was truly excellent, the beef was on another level, one of the very best dishes I have had this year!

Lots of hype around Mangal and it's rise to glory. Went in with lots of expectations. Left feeling a little disappointed. Food is fine, but only as good as lots of other small plate sharing joints that have popped across the city In past years. It didn't leave a lasting impression. Wine list felt like a fairly run of the mill natty wine affair. Service was pretty rubbish. We were sat next to a slightly chemical smelling bathroom and left unattended to for a lot of our time there. We ordered bread with starters which failed to arrive in sync with other dishes. For the price we could have eaten at places nearby that have offered much more impressive plates and a much better service. Probably won't return. If you want some of those Turkish flavours then give it a go.

Hugely disappointing. Food less than average yet hugely expensive. Never been so disappointed with a meal in my life. Why is this so popular?

Food was exceptional. All meat was cooked to perfection and soo tasty. I can’t actually pick a stand out dish as they were all done so well. The staff were really nice, though our drinks did only come out at the same time as our food which I’m not a fan of (but we went on a Saturday eve so it’s busy!). The setting is pretty cool, you’re on tables very close to other people. I’d say this is a great restaurant for a group rather than intimate date, but that’s just me. I’d still highly recommend to everyone.

I joined a larger group for a friends birthday as we had been wanting to go for a while. We were advised to order the entire menu and with 3 glasses of wine alongside the meal we ended up spending £80 per head. I wouldn't say we were full but we were a group of 6 guys so that might be about right. The starter dishes were a mixed bag, the menu overall was quite saucy and they could have done with reducing them down a little further as they felt a little thin / watery. The tartare (raw beef dish) had great intensity coming from the beef but was under seasoned. The Aubergine was a banger. The Lokma was the winner from the starters section. Not huge amounts of Fennel in the sauce it came with but the meat was very tasty it didnt need anything. The pide was a delight, we ordered another round, the butter was absurdly delicious with a soft creamy texture. The Whole Mackerel was very much half a Whole Mackerel... but delicious nevertheless. The star of the show was really the Ex-Dairy Beef Rib. The fat on the beef had such an amazing viscosity, creamy, buttery deliciousness coupled with an amazing crust on the beef that was perfectly cooked. That was a 5* dish. The wine list, extensive and relatively exciting (5 natural wines in typical Stoke Newington hipster fashion). Paired well with the dishes but we could have had a bit more face time with the waitress and suggestions would have been encouraged as far as the pairings go. Overall the service was okay, not invasive, slightly hands off but given we are in a difficult staffing climate and there were only 2 people on the floor I presume they were dealing with a challenging service. Thanks for the night to the entire team. Go enjoy some delicious cooked meat.

Mangal II has a really special place in my heart - as a second-gen immigrant with a father who ran a restaurant similar to the original Mangal II, I have a special affinity for these guys and makes me proud seeing how they have re-branded to be one of the best restaurants in London. I first tried the new Mangal II right after the rebrand after lockdown and I enjoyed the food, you could tell it was a work-in-progress but it was on my second visit I was blown truly away. We pretty much ordered the entire menu. Each dish was perfectly executed and by it left us wanting more. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

Waited 25mins for our table (we’d booked). Acoustics were awful, could hardly hear my friend speak and we were only a table of two. Just one cocktail on the menu, when we tried to order a G&T we were told it wasn’t possible as the one cocktail (Negroni) was a pre mix, so not fresh. The food was nice but unremarkable, certainly not worth the price. The restaurant is packed in way to tightly, we were constantly bumped into or having to move glasses and plates to make space for other customers to get past. Really cramped, to an unpleasant degree. I was really excited to go to this restaurant and was extremely disappointed.
